Tech was scheduled to come between 5-7 PM, and did not show up on time. I had to Call the after hours number and found out that the tech was at another job. Once tech finally got here around 8:30 PM, he never checked the compressor to see if it was running. I took him to the heating/AC unit, and let him be as I had other things to do. Within 10 minutes, the technician was back in his truck, and was writing up the bill. When I went to speak with him, the tech stated that he had put 2 pounds of coolant into the unit, but I don’t think that he did. The air conditioner was only cooled for a few minutes, and then stopped after he left. I had other companies come out and give estimates as to what needed to be done, and one of the companies was surprised there was not a fire caused by the unit. The unit had melted down, and would have caught on fire if I had not turned the thermostat off. The unit was continuing to run, but there was no coolant, so it got very hot. After receiving the other estimates, I feel as though I was overcharged for the coolant. I would not recommend them to anyone for AC services.
Description of Work: I had Climate Mechanical come out to fix my AC unit that was not cooling.

The entire process went without a flaw. Mike came out for the estimate and spent several hours going over what issues we had with our existing systems and problem areas in our home related to heating and cooling. He then gave me a number of recommendations and a formal quote. I accepted his quote after reviewing it against several others. The price was in line with others I had received. We agreed on a time to do the work and the crew arrived as scheduled. They were professional and courteous. They took good care of our home covering the carpet etc. Not only did they replace my equipment, but they sealed my doors and other areas in the home. They had to come back out to do some work on my new thermostats and they have been so courteous and worked on my schedule not when it was convenient for them. After everything was complete it was several days before they setup a time to come out for a final review and payment. I have to say this was one of the best experiences I have had with a service company. I believe they did more for the dollar than another company would have. Its now been close to 2 months since we got our new system. We are happy with it and so far it is working fine. I am a little disapointed at this time because when I finalized payment on the system I needed information so that I could complete my paperwork to get a rebate from Perdenales Electric. They have had a rebate going on for new systems that meet their SEER and EER specifications. This was one of the items I evaluted while I was looking at getting our new systems. Climate Mechanical quoted that both my systems would meet their specs. So when Mike was out for finalizing I asked for those specs so I could file. Mike said don't worry about it they would take care of it. So far I don't see that they have done anyting. I have sent 2 emails asking if they have compleded or would they provide the specs so I could file them. Don't know whats up but I am not getting any response on the issue. Lesson learned I guess is get everything before you pay the bill. I am lowering my rating based on this issue. If they come through it will go back up.

The day before their scheduled visit, they called and told me the unit they had ordered for me was backordered. However, they had a more expensive unit that would still be an appopriate size for my small condo. They offered to install that unit at the same price that was quoted in my estimate. They arrived promptly, were personable, and answered all my questions during the installation. They also laid down tarps and vaccumed to avoid leaving me with a mess. Since they had to cut away part of the inside wall to install the unit (I was told the wall would need to be cut during the estimate), they called their warehouse and had someone come out to bring a larger unit cover/door. Before they left, they demonstrated the use of the new thermostat and answered any questions (they also left an instruction book). The installation only took a little longer than the amount of time quoted in their estimate, but that was due to the issues with plumbing. It was completed that same day. After they left, the unit worked perfectly, however, becuase of the tight squeeze of the new indoor unit, there was a vibration/buzz that occurred constantly, whether the unit was on or off. I contacted them regarding the issue and they sent someone out right away. They didn't charge me for that adjustment. The unit no longer buzzes and works perfectly. I was very happy with their service.
Description of Work: Climate Mechanical replaced my A/C and heating unit (inside and out). My original unit was over 20 years old and the inside unit was smaller than the units that are currently available. In order to fit the new unit in the wall, they had to cut away a few inches of the wall and make adjustments to some outdate plumbing. On the outside, they increased the size of the slab since the unit was larger than the current one.

One of my 17 year old A/C units quit working in the middle of the hottest month on record. I called Climate at 8:15, and Travis showed up about 10:00. After diagnosing the problem, he told me that I'd have to replace the compressor, and on a 17 year old unit, that really wasn't practical/economical. I asked him to send Mike (the owner) out to do a complete write up. Mike was at the house by 4:30, and spent the next hour and a half reviewing our systems, measuring the heated & cooled space in the house, and talking to us about problems with the existing system (hot/cold rooms...). he told me that it would take 2 days to replace both systems and install some new return air ducts. We decided to do both units since the working one was 17 years old, and on it's last leg. I did receive two other bids of comparable equipment, and Mike was within 10% of their estimates. His crew came out the next week (since we had one system still running, we weren't in a rush, despite the record heat). They started work promptly at 8:00, the equipment was delivered at 9:30, and by noon the guys had removed the old furnace, plenum, and attic air-handler. They worked until about 4:30, and had the new A/C working by the time they left. The next morning they arrived at 7:15, and did the same thing with the other A/C & furnace. They did have to come out a third day to install new return air ducts, but they were out of there by 2:00. Two days later, Tom, the service manager, came by to go over everything, gave me his cell #, and picked up the check. Bottom line: it's a lot of crazy-hot work installing in the middle of the summer, and Mike's crew did a great job. The only reason I gave the price a B, is that even though his price was competitive with others, its still an enormous sum of money to replace your A/C(s). It has less to do with Mike, and more to do with an overall comment on the price of these things. The industry knows we need 'em if we're going to live in Texas, and they've got us over a barrel. Mike did his best to accomodate us. We had a mix-up on model numbers at one point, and he purchased the 10 year warranty out of his pocket to assuage our concerns -- we told him it was unnecessary, but he insisted. He was more than fair, and we will continue to use Climate Mechanical and recommend him to anyone looking for A/C service.
Description of Work: They replaced 2 complete furnace & A/C units with modern efficient equipment, sealed holes in the existing ducts, installed new digital thermostats, and reconfigured my return air ducts.

This man came over on this past Sunday and told us that the inside parts didn’t match with the parts on the outside, so it was completely different. I always knew there was something wrong with it. Also in the den area, they made some holes in the ceiling that looked real tacky. The duct work wasn’t done to have air flow into that area, so we had to buy a whole other unit. The city referred us to them because we were supposed to get a discount on our monthly bill, but we spent over $4,000 on that to be unhappy with it.

Overall cost & service has been good.
Description of Work: I have used them 3 times in last 2 years on my 2 AC units. On 6/17/2009 I had them check both systems due I felt the A/C units were not producing enough cold air. They topped off the Freon on both units and overall performed spring checkout of both units. They found a small leak on my old A/C unit & repaired. To this date this unit is still holding good Freon charge. Cost $298 On 7/15/2010 On my old A/C unit the blower motor stopped. I called them & got in today schedule in the afternoon. Unfortunately I waited till a technician wrapped up previous calls & was available. They found the Starter capacitor for blower was bad. They replaced it & it worked. The only bad thing is the capacitor was larger & old bracket holddown did NOT work for this capacitor. The technician either did Not have the strap material necessary to do a proper retrofit so he Duck Tape the capacaitor to the side of blower. At the time I was happy A/C unit was working and I felt I good do some of retrofit after he left. Unfornutately I forgot about it. Cost $193 On 4/1/2011 I had them over to do spring check up on A/C units. I had them mount blower capacitor correctly. By the way duck tape held capacitor in place for the 9 months. Both A/C units working great & holding good Freon charge. I signed up for yearly maintenance checkup & they will check out heater in fall. Cost $ 100 for this visit & I prepaid Fall checkout @ $100. Total bill was $207.

Work crews were awesome, very neat, high quality work. They explained what they were doing and finished all work without any problems on schedule. Cleanup after was quick and thorough. Having an insulation crew come in and seal ducts, doors vents as a part of the install is something other companies did not off which with the recent cold snap produced immediate noticable results! Not as important as the work done, but, definitely worth mentioning here ...... communications with office staff were often confusing and unreliable, a real pain. The initial quote for the job was done by Mike (owner who was very good to deal with) back in May, for a number of reasons the project went on hold. Getting attention from the folks in the office in November to revise quote and move ahead with the job was frustrating. I didn't get call backs when expected, and it wastough getting an install date. At install time getting the needed forms and information to file for Texas energy rebates, was tough because everyone was on vacation except the installers and answering service. A fact I was not told beforehand! Ultimately it was taken care of within a day. All that said I would definitely pick the same vendor and system again, just would hold their feet to the fire more up front to avoid stress.

The estimator and owner, Mike, spent an ninety minutes inspecting my old installation and asking questions about my current HVAC issues. His answers were helpful and to the point. The only surprise in the job was that the installers arrived in a truck with a different company name on it. I called Mike, who assured me that this crew worked for him regularly. The installers showed up on time. To avoid damaging a shrub adjacent to the outside unit, they removed the old unit and brought in the new unit by carting these the long way around my house. (Other companies had said they would need to remove or roll over the shrub because that route was so much shorter.) They seemed to be both proficient and careful. However, on two or three occasions during the day they ran out of supplies, small stuff, and one of them had to leave the job to go get more, and it delayed them; I think it was as a result of this that they didn't quite get finished with the clean up and had to return the next morning to do this. However, upon completion they did clean the site well. My installation was November 8, near the end of the a/c season. In the ten days since then I don't think the a/c has come on, and the furnace hasn't yet come on very much. (But it's nice and quiet!) So, I can't comment yet upon the overall quality of the installation and equipment although early indications are that everything is working properly. The surprise about the differently named installer and the extra time required to finish up the next day keep me from giving Climate Mechanical a strong A, but my overall impression of the bid and installation as well as the early results since then let me confidently give them a good A-. I plan to let Climate Mechanical service this system in the future.

Our air conditioning went out Thursday before Labor Day weekend. Not a great way to start the holiday! We had two companies over to provide estimates. We trusted both but ultimately went with Climate Mechanical because they got us a temporary AC unit by Saturday to get us cooled for the weekend. They later installed the full system and did all of the weatherization. They also helped navigate all of the rebates from the federal government and City of Austin. We did have a couple of issues with our system in October, and the team from Climate Mechanical was very responsive and came out and took care of the problem right away. Mike and his team stand by their word, and we would recommend them to others.

The original bid was for 7400, but also included an electronic air cleaner to minimize possible air allergens. However, when the housing was removed, it was suddenly discovered there wasn't enough room for the item. As such, I had no choice but to have them install the system w/o the air cleaner. The rest of the job went smoothly and they cleaned up after the installation was complete. I note that part of the job was to ensure that the intake was suited to the airflow required. I had not realized that my original air intake was so restrictive that it was making an excessive amount of noise and causing the fan to work harder than it should have. This was corrected by enlarging the intake vent which is now VERY quiet. While doing the work, it was noticed that the dryer vent pipe was not connected to the vent leading outside. This was corrected very professionally with new vent pipes. I was not one of the lucky ones to get through and qualify for the state rebate. However, the paperwork has been handled by Climate Mechanical and all the rebates for which I qualify has been completed by them. I anticipate receiving them soon. Everything considered, I would use them again if needed.
Description of Work: This contractor was the low bid on a premium Trane A/C and heating system with insulation and sealing of all the vents, doors, etc., to qualify for the rebates available. The crew arrived about 9:00 A.M. and were finished about 4:00 P.M.

I called first thing in the morning, and they sent someone out in about 4 hours. The technician (Travis) checked the unit in the attic, and the compressor outside, and determined that a part needed to be replaced (a contactor). He didn't have the part on his truck, so he had to run to the electrical supply store. He came back, and replaced the part, cleaned up the connections, and got the A/C working again. I was worried that I was going to have to replace the whole system -- boy was I happy.

Mike the owner of climate mechanical is great. After having several estimates, I totally fell for his thoroughness and his attention to detail. He explained the entire process in lay language with out really seeming to 'dumb it down' too much. His employees seem to have lots of experience and also that attention to detail. Although the price was high (He only sells Trane equipment), I totally feel that I got what I paid for and I feel secure in the quality of the work and of the system.

Overall, it was fast, efficient, small problem with starting up system was immediately addressed by owner. The cost was slightly higher than original quote due to an energy audit adding solar screens to several windows, but the company owner more than made up for it, allowing me to keep some of my rebate, which was unexpected and extremely appreciated. Before they could schedule to do the work, they put a temporary motor in my old system (my old one had blown on my 20+year-old unit) so that I would not have to be without any air for the several days before the job started. Job installation and crew were fast and professional. Insulation crew was next, they were not as professional, but efficient. They left old screens laying in back yard instead of hauling away. Other than that, not a thing went wrong. It's a great new system. The city rebate programs made the job and materials affordable, and my utility bills have gone down a bit. If you are using another company to keep patching together an old unit, which I did for too long, I would say your money is better invested in a new system. Consider a new one and using this local company.

Climate Mechanical does high quality work. Mike, the owner of CM, inspected the site and discussed all the options with me. He was responsive and answered my many questions. He provided detailed quotes, which included the energy efficiency rebates available from the utility companies. Mike stopped by several times during the work, and performed a walk through at the end. Mike was helpful, friendly, detail-oriented, and interested in improvement. The CM workers were also friendly and helpful. I was very impressed with the quality of the work. Along with meeting the building code updates, the work was neatly done. The workers did a good job without needing oversight, and cleaned up well at the end of each day. Because CM is a partner in the Austin Energy efficiency program, the weatherization and rebate process is handled completely by them, and is greatly simplified as a result.
Description of Work: Replacement of heating and cooling equipment, and replaced ductwork in attic, over two days. Installed solar screens and did weatherization (sealed ducts, plumbing, etc.) on the third day. The company participates in the Austin Energy energy efficiency program, and does weatherization in-house.

Overall, the project went very well. But after a couple of days, I had some questions about the system performance; frankly, I didn t think it was working as I expected. I called the owner, and he agreed to return with a technician in a couple of days. The tech, who had not been here previously, checked everything and found several errors. The compressors, air handler, and thermostat were all wired incorrectly for the kind of heat pump and variable speed blower I bought. Once the errors were fixed, the system has performed even better than my expectations. You might think that because I discovered errors in the installation, I would not recommend CM. To the contrary, their willingness to double-check their work, admit the problems, and promptly correct their mistakes persuaded me that I had made the right choice. If you have them work for you, tell them you expect them to work just as hard for you as they did for Michael!
Description of Work: The project: complete replacement of the heating and air conditioning along with new attic insulation and sealing of all ductwork. I obtained three bids, all on similar equipment. I waited several weeks to see if any of the three would make a follow-up call; none did. However, I had used CM for a repair several months ago, and because the mechanic was friendly and competent, I decided to give them a second call. The owner came out for a second visit, and we agreed on the scope of the work and price. CM had the highest bid, but experience has taught me that simply taking the low bid can lead to problems. On the appointed day, four CM employees arrived, pretty much on time, and the owner arrived shortly thereafter. While the first pair worked on the insulation, the second installed a Trane heat pump (outside), air handler (attic), and thermostat. The project took all day and when they were finished, the four did a pretty good--though not out-standing--job of cleaning up.
