The first time they came and felt the house did not need working on. The last time they came, the job took about a week. It was a very big job and it was not cheap.

+ -1 moreMy job went very well. The back of the house had sunk 6 inches lower than the front and had distinct bumps in the floor. Centex brought the house up to level. Centex was careful to inform me that while no matter what work was done, the floors would never be as flat as they were when the house was built, but that considerable improvement was possible. The floors have only minor changes in them now, and doors that either would not open or would not closed work properly. They were also careful to make it clear that several months should be allowed to go by before starting sheetrock repairs (sheetrock damage was caused by the shifting of the house prior to the leveling, not the leveling process) to allow the structure to settle into its new configuration. After the original inspection and decision to do the job, Centex stayed in contact, answered all of my questions, provided a drawing showing where the new piers would be located, and gave me a detailed information/instruction sheet. The job supervisor was very easy to work with and made sure I knew when different parts of the job were scheduled so I could see what was being done and observe the actual leveling and measuring once all of the bracing and piers were in place. The crew worked hard (it was summer) and efficiently. A week or two after it was done, Enrique, one of the owners, came by to do a final inspection, post the paperwork for the city inspector, and answer any other questions I might have. In addition to the work itself, Centex set up having an independent engineer look at the job and handled the permit with the City. I enjoyed working with everyone at Centex. They were knowledgeable, professional, helpful, and interested in helping make the house last for a long time in an improved condition.
Description of Work: Centex did extensive work on my grandmother's 1929 pier and beam home. They added 16 large concrete piers, dug footings for these piers, adjusted some existing piers that did not require replacing, and added a support beam where there had been none before.

It's been a while so I don't remember the details but they were more than our original estimate even though we thought they'd be lower and my neighbor had trouble with them so the choice to go with someone else was simple.

+ -1 moreTyler came by to inspect my foundation after I had a questionable contractor job on an outside patio. He was prompt and explained based on pictures I had and investigation of the slab that the contractor did not properly set the foundation for weight at the outside chimney area which I expected. I feel he gave an honest recommendation to wait another 3 - 6 months for the patio to settle and see if cracks and any separation form. He noted the area has stone bedrock that might serve as a solid foundation when the slab settles but not much can be done now but wait and see. I appreciate the advice and honesty of this company.

+ 0 moreSteve was very prompt, in fact he was running early and called to see if he could come early. We arranged to meet at the house in 20 minutes. He was prompt and professional, asked me to show him the problem areas I was seeing, and immediately got to work taking his elevation readings. It's actually a rather simple process. When he was done, he told me I had NO significant readings that would indicate a foundation issue. The ceiling sheetrock cracks could possibly be framing. He also recommended keeping my lawn green (which amazingly it is this year), and to call them if I see anymore issues or have any further concerns. I am SO HAPPY to know that I don't have a foundation issue, something I have worried about for years to be honest, and I can breathe a lot easier now. BEST news I've heard in a while regarding my 18-y.o. house. Now, I can feel confident putting money into fixing the rest of the issues, and some cosmetic upgrades I'd like to make. Didn't make sense doing anything without making sure it wasn't going to be sitting on a good foundation first. I will DEFINITELY call them if I have any future concerns. Thanks so much. "Check the foundation" is officially off my To Do list. On to the next.
Description of Work: Inspected my home for foundation issues. We have some cracks in our ceiling, and a crack in the garage floor that seems to follow the same path. We used to have doors that wouldn't shut (especially during the worst part of drought a couple years ago), but they resolved themselves with the rains.

+ -1 moreCentex was like a breath of fresh air after the last encounter we had in the construction industry. They were friendly, courteous, and very professional. We knew what to expect from the beginning. One of the owners came to the job site and gave us a bid and told us how the job would be done, approximately how long the job would take and what materials and equipment would be used to complete the job. Everything was done according to our expectations. When the guys showed up they were prompt, professional, experienced and thorough. I expected possibly more cracking from the leveling that had to be performed but that was not the case - some of the cracks actually closed up in the process. The job site was left very clean too. A final inspection of the job was made by one of the owners to determine job completion and customer satisfaction and to go over the warranty. WOW! Marvelous!! 3 cheers!! There is still hope out there for we the consumer after all. :)

+ -1 moreWe had multiple companies come out and give estimates to repair and stabilize our slab foundation. Centex was the last we talked to and the one we decided to go with. Centex was not the cheapest, nor were they the most expensive. Nick came out and spent about an hour taking measurements inside the house, inspecting the outside, and discussing recommendations and options. We ended up going with his "middle of the road" option which was installing 32 piers around the perimeter of the house and none inside. Our house is built on two separate slabs; the first was poured in 1976 and the addition in 1982. Centex was concerned about moving the addition's slab too much to exactly match the original slab and we decided to basically stabilize the addition and slightly improve the original (not a cookie-cutter job). The work was begun on time and ended on time. Cleanup and back-fill (new soil where needed) were done professionally. Little damage to existing landscaping, including removing and replacing part of the deck. During the leveling process they walked me through the house demonstrating how leveling was done (very interesting to watch the process). When everything was done to our satisfaction they cleaned-up and left. After a couple weeks Enrique came back out to recheck and ask if we had any questions and concerns (we didn't). Overall this process was much easier than I expected and cost (just a little) less than we budgeted. I recommend you at least contact them if you are in need of foundation repair.

They show up when they say they will and their employees are professional and just nice folks. Nick Pratt came this time, did some elevation measurements and told me the slab was within tolerances and didn't need their services. I really appreciate their honesty and professionalism.

I was pleasantly surprised with this experience. Everyone that i had contact with was great from the first contact with the estimate to the final job clean up. + -1 moreArrived on time and was very nice. Used a device to measure floor level throughout the house and also did an outside walk-around the house with me pointing out my concerns. Entire process took 15-20 minutes. His accessment was that the small cracks we were having were not related to the foundation. He pointed out one slightly low spot in the dining room, but recommended no adjustment. He said we had no cjurrent foundation related problems. He said nothing was amiss with the foundation and the cracks we were seeing was likely normal roof movement over age of a house and general slight settling of wood in this 22 year old house. This was great news. Very professional.

+ -1 moreI've worked with numerous contractors and service providers during my professional and personal life, and I can honestly say this was one of the best experiences I've ever had. The personnel--from the initial estimator, the crew chief, the crew, and the VP for Operations--did exactly what they said they would do, on a timely basis. The crew arrived exactly when they were supposed to arrive and immediately began digging about 20 holes around the foundation while the crew chief walked me through the whole process. The crew were some of the hardest working guys I've ever seen. When it came time to jack up the foundation I was invited to stay with the crew chief and watch the measurements to determine when the various parts of the house had been leveled appropriately. Every effort was made to return my yard and landscape to what it looked like originally. Finally, the VP of Operations came out to give us the engineers report and warranty certificate and to get our feedback on the whole process. Again, totally courteous and professional. In short, I'd recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: Provider performed an assessment that involved measuring in multiple areas of the house. Indicated the house was well below acceptable tolerance levels on at least 3 sides of the house. Explained my options and approximate costs for each. Within 24 hours provided a written estimate that was slightly lower than the two other providers who came out.

In preparation for giving me an estimate, a representative of CenTex Foundation looked the house over thoroughly inside, walked the perimeter several times, and checked under the house to assess the piers from a previous job some years back and evaluate the current situation. As it turned out the problems I was attributing to foundation problems had everything to do with other repairs that are needed, not the foundation. He told me that while he would be happy to do the foundation work, it wasn't necessary at this time and he didn't want to do work that wasn't needed. It would have been a simple thing for him to give me an estimate and I would have gone ahead with the job. I appreciate his honesty and the comments he made regarding other matters being the cause of the problems I was concerned about.

+ -1 moreI would personally recommend to anyone, who believes they have a foundation issue, to get a structural engineer to come out for an assessment. They will charge you, maybe around $500, but you will get an honest assessment of what needs to be done. It looks like the foundation repair companies are more interested in the big ticket foundation leveling procedures than actually fixing what may really be wrong with the foundation.
Description of Work: Centex provided a very expensive foundation repair estimate...$15,000+++. I ultimately went to a structural engineer, who evaluated the foundation and came out with a very specific remedy, that avoided the extensive repair that Centex offered. A similar company to Centex gave the same kind of $15,000 estimate for repair.

+ 0 moreI found them on Angie's List and used their website to schedule a free estimate. I received a call right away from the office asking for the best available date and time for the inspection. I met with Nick Pratt who after doing a walk-thru of the interior and exterior perimeter of the house advised me that there were no problems with the foundation. It appears that the A/C is draining too close to the foundation and the excessive moisture is causing the foundation to expand. He also made some recommendations to improve the drainage by extending some of the drains away from the slab. I am very satisfied with the overall service and professionalism. I would highly recommend them.

+ 0 moreOur meetings with Ronnie went very well. We never felt like he was rushing us, that he was there to give us an expert opinion of our problem and what it would take to fix it. If we had needed foundation repair work done to our house, we feel that he would be very good to work with and that he would explain in detail what would be involved and the options we would have. We were lucky, at least for now, in not needing his repair services, but we feel that if we ever do, he and his crew will do a first rate job.
Description of Work: We called CenTex, Waco, TX, when a vertical crack started to appear in the brick on our sun porch in August, 2011; we also had some cracks in the seams of the sheetrock in our garage which was connected to the sun porch. The rest of the house was okay. A friend of ours had recommended CenTex. Ronnie Wiethorn, owner/operator of the Waco unit, came out to check it. He used a device to measure how level our slab foundation was and did a thorough check of the rest of the house. He told us that the damage that we had would not dictate a foundation repair at that time, and that we should wait until we started to have more rain to see if the crack changed. At the time we were in one of the worst droughts ever, and the ground was really dry. At our request, he has come back a couple of more times to check to see if the crack or foundation has gotten worse so that we can decide if we need to go ahead with any major repairs. He checked the level of the foundation again in August, 2012, and found that that area of the house had settled a little more, but still not enough to be worth any foundation work. He told us to monitor the crack over the next six months to see if there was any further movement there or anywhere else. If it continued to expand, then we may need to talk about foundation work. Fortunately, as of Feb/2013, it doesn't look like we will be needing any foundation repair at this time,and we can go ahead and have just the brickwork replaced and and the sheetrock repaired. We don't know what may happen in the future, but if we do need foundation work done, CenTex will be the one we call to do the job. Even though we did not have CenTex do any work for us, it was good that we were able to meet and talk with Ronnie. During our several visits, we have found him to be a very nice, easy-going person, extremely knowledgable, and can explain things in a way that you can understand. Their website says that Ronnie believes in taking care of your neighbors and treating people right. After meeting with him, we can tell that this is what he really believes, and we feel that he will do you a good job at a fair price. Too many people in today's world will try to take advantage of someone when it comes to home repairs and to charge you every chance they get. Ronnie is not one them. He also gave us some pointers on what to ask for in the construction of the foundation on our next house.

+ -1 moreThis has been a challenging review for me to write and "rate." As you can see, I am completely satisfied - overall. And, in all fairness, from the first phone call made to the folks at CenTex House Leveling, to the final review of the report, my husband and I were treated with friendly professionalism. The plan for the repair was discussed with us ahead of time and the estimate was reviewed all with the intention of making sure we had proper expectations set. All of this was fantastic and I felt great that I could trust everything that was being said to me, as I know nothing about foundation damage or repair. I gave my overall rating as a 'C' because while the expectation was properly set and I knew that my house was going to have 17 deep holes dug around it, I did not realize that my fresh, healthy rosemary bushes in the front flower bed of my house were going to be destroyed and then put back together so poorly that the entire front flower bed of my home looked like a pile of mulch. Which has now cost me additional money to replace. Additionally, the proper expectation was set that there was going to be backfilling done to create positive drainage, but what I did not realize was that the backfill was going to be placed so sloppily against the house that it was going to require me to have to pay to have my house pressure washed because of the stains on the stone, again costing me additional money. In summary, I truly feel that CenTex House Leveling is a professional, efficient and friendly company that employs folks who really know how to level homes and repair foundations. I just wish they would implement the "put things back the way you found them" philosophy. Otherwise, I would have been far more pleased with them, overall.
Description of Work: A total differential elevation of 2" was reported along the left perimeter of my home. CenTex hydraulically pressed precast concrete cylinders (pilings) along the affected areas of the house to raise the level and the affected areas. The contractor installed spread footings along and under 17 perimeter areas. The spread footings were each composed of a minimum of 24" x 24" wide x 10" thick concrete footing installed 36" below grade. Dual 6" diameter cylinders were placed on top of the concrete footings. Steel shims were placed on top of each concrete cylinder and below the bottom of the perimeter grade beam of the house to transfer weight from the leveling jacks and refine the leveling process. The perimeter areas of the house were raised within 1/2" level position. The contractor stated that they would backfill to provide positive drainage away from the foundation and clean up the work area.

He told us that the cracks were a normal occurrence for this situation and what might be done to deal with the cracks as well as what steps might be undertaken if the situation worsened. We were not charged for the inspection and received a written report for our records as a baseline for future evaluations. It was so reassuring to run into a service like CenTex which did not 'discover' that we needed expensive repairs as we assumed we might. with the firm that built the home.
Description of Work: Because of a crack that has developed in the tile between a section of the house that was built over a slab and an adjacent area that was built over piers and beams, we were concerned that there might be a foundation problem. We called CenTex yesterday and had an appointment scheduled for the following day. The inspector, Nathan, called about a half hour prior to the appointed time and mentioned that he was running early and that he could be here in 5 minutes or at the appointed time whichever was more convenient for us. When he arrived, he introduced himself and proceeded to make the inspection explaining to us what concerns there might be. He had knowledge of the construction procedures because he had worked for the firm that built the house.
