BRENTS TREE SERVICE

When he came out to give the estimate he spent a good about of time looking around and told me that the amount I paid for the Big Deal wasn't enough to get the job done, and quoted me almost triple the promotional amount. He was very friendly and professional, but I couldn't afford that amount so I got a refund from Angie's List.

The workmen (2) arrived on schedule and worked steadily. Sometime during the day, they realized that they were not going to be able to finish by nightfall. Instead of the usual "we'll be back" story, other men began to arrive as they finished their other jobs. By the time they finished - just at nightfall - there were 14 workers in my yard, Everything was done - no additional money was required, and the entire neighborhood had come out to get cards (and cart off firewood, I think). I could not have imagined such great service and so little fuss and muss. The yard was amazingly clean the next day. when I called to thank the company, they acted happy and surprised - said they didn't get many thank you calls. I wouldn't use anyone else after this experience.

Went well the first time. However, a day after the job, the service manager followed up to ensure satisfaction. I mentioned they needed to better finish out the front tree and they promptly came back and took care of it. Great job overall ! Keep up the good work.

Excellent with well manicured trees that looked natural and in ways that would improve the health and not just the look of the trees.

He was prompt, understanding, and gave me a list of his insurance and satisfied customers. He is punctual, courteous, professional, and had all his ducks in a row. He told me how many workers would be out there and when they would be out there. When I had the problem with the neighbor, he helped me with that as well. Their price is really good. They explained the process to me and did a nice job. I called them on a Wednesday and they were there on Friday.

REP FROM COMPANY CAME TO HOUSE TO DO EVALUATION ON TREE AND SERVICES REQUIRED. ESTIMATE WAS GIVEN AND FOLLOW UP APPT WAS SCHEDULED FOR 4 DAYS LATER. WORKERS CAME TO HOUSE, WORK WAS FAST AND CLEAN UP WAS GOOD. I WAS SO NOT EXPECTING SOOO MUCH OF TREE TO BE TAKEN OFF.

I called to request and schedule an appointment for an estimate for the trimming that I needed. I was told that due to the travel distance I could expect some additional charges. John came and gave me an estimate offering several options for the service. we agreed on a date for the service and he left. There was no hard sell. The day of service came. The crew of four came and trimmed the trees, removed the debris and cleaned the yard completely. They were at me home less than two hours.

My experience was similar to the March 15, 2012 reviewer's experience. I purchased the Angie's list coupon for $225 worth of Brents Tree Service Bucks for $75. I have one tree with a few branches at a height of around 10 to 15 feet above ground that needed to be pruned back. The estimator's price was $425 + tax. That meant that my effective (coupon discounted) price was $275 + tax on $425. This didn't sound right, as a year earlier I had previously had *all* my trees trimmed back by a similar amount for around $300 by A Cut Above Tree Service, which had done a professional job. The Brents Tree Service salesman said they won't do *any* jobs for less than $325, and that their work can't be compared to that of uneducated people who drive around in a pickup truck. Well, first of all, some of the Angie's List reviews state that Brent's Tree Service has performed work at amounts less than $325. Secondly, I notice that American Tree Service, the highest rated and most popular on Angie's list, has done numerous jobs for around $100, including jobs that sound more demanding than the trimming of a few not very high branches off my one tree.. I rather doubt that American Tree Service is a bunch of uneducated guys who drive around in a pickup truck doing low quality work. Suffice it to say, I'm disappointed with how my Angies List coupon "deal" for Brents Tree service turned out. Fortunately, Angies List refunded my $75 "coupon". Maybe Brent's Tree Service is a better fit for big dollar jobs--I'll never know, because I won't be calling them again for any job, big or small. Instead, I'll be calling American Tree Service and simply be done with it. Life is short. --------------------- American Tree Service's estimator came yesterday. My cost for getting the job done through American Tree Service will be $125 total. Go figure.

I discovered this company through a Groupon deal. After contacting them, a man from their marketing department showed up and gave a good estimate and we scheduled the work. The four man crew worked efficiently and did exactly what I wanted. They arrived on time and the cost was well within reason.

Best bid. Punctual. Thorough clean-up.

I bought a Groupon for $75 for $225 worth of work and scheduled a free consultation for Thursday, 3/8/2012. They called me about 20 minutes before the appointment and said that they would not be able to make it out and rescheduled for Thursday 3/15/2012. The salesman called me again at 10 am (the time of our appointment) and said that he was running late. He showed up at 10:20 and spent about 15 minutes going through the yard. He said that unfortunately, all of my trees were "trash trees" except the pecan. The experience was very "salesman" like; he was pitching me a service instead of just explaining what needed to be done and why. I have one medium tree and one small tree that need removal, and 7 trees that need trimming. The overall quote was nearly $2000. When I asked how much just to remove the medium tree in the front, he did some more "calculating" and said the cost would be $975 to cut down the tree. I balked at this amount, and when he inquired as to my previous quotes for removal of that tree (which was $250), he said "well, you can hire any renegade on C-List, but we have insurance," gave me a copy of the policy, and the sales pitch was over. He left very quickly. 1) I don't appreciate being talked down to because I am female (I have removed several trees on my property BY MY SELF); AND 2) I don't appreciate hearing a sales pitch from a person that knows less about trees than I do (granted, I am a biologist, but I expect the arborists to tell me something I don't know already). I think I'll call one of the "renegades" on CL and get a copy of their insurance policy BEFORE I let them cut down a dead tree for $250.

They did a really good job and they worked with me as far as pricing. They were very courteous and professional. They were really reasonable and did good work.

Overall the experience was positive. Brent's originally estimated it would be several days before they could start the trimming but they actually called and managed to start earlier. The team that did the trimming did a very good job. Unlike past trimmings, this team climbed up into all the trees that were safe to climb and did a very thorough job of clearing out dead branches. Overall it took 2 days to complete with a team of 4 or 5. They also did a very good job of keeping the job site clean and of final clean up. At the end they brought us out so we could point out areas that needed additional trimming. They completed those additional areas on the spot. I have seen some complaints about the pricing and clearly Bret's is not cheap. However compared to other companies that I have used, they did a much more thorough job. Further they assured me that they sterilize tools between trimming to help avoid spreading diseases - which have been plaguing the area. In addition they will spread the payments out over 3 months which can be of help. Aside from cost, the only other area that I was not as happy with is that I got connected with them through a coupon that was sold by "Urban Delight". In this promotion, for $75, they would provide $225 worth of tree trimming services. Clearly $225 would not buy much tree trimming services and I do not know if they would have charged $150 had I not had the coupon. If so, then their price would have been clearly too high. However getting drawn in by that coupon was really my fault and overall I think it was a fair deal for the amount of work that was required.

It was excellent. They did more for less on an icy cold day.

The price was on the higher end, but they give you the opportunity to make a couple of payments. However, your job must be a minimum of $250 to have them come out. They did a good job overall, but I didn’t care for the stump grinding. They actually left the debris from it, leaving me to clean it up. This was surprising as we’re currently in a drought.

I felt that their pricing was a little bit out of line. They gave me an estimate and I asked them how long it would take them. They said that it would be half day which I thought would be about four hours. I was expecting that the crew would arrive around 8, but they didn’t get there till 10. It took them less than two hours to do the work. When I called and questioned the amount of quote, I felt treated badly. I expected some adjustment because half day verses two hours is a big difference for me. I only had five trees in my yard. I am not totally thrilled with them. One of the crew spoke English, but the other did not speak English. I found it difficult to communicate. I didn’t feel that the person who provided the quote was friendly at all when I questioned the amount. They need some training on conflict resolution. They say that they were arborist, but none of the crew members that were sent to my home were certified arborists. I was expecting that. They said that since none of the trees was sick, they didn’t see the need for an arborist onsite.

We used Brent's based on two things, a recommendation from a very well-known Austinite, and their qualifications listed on their own website. Unfortunately, we did not fare as well as the well-known Austinite. It was a struggle to actually get the job "completed" and then we still did not feel it was complete according to our initial estimates. We just wore down and gave up. It was an ordeal stretched over many months, and we certainly would not use them again. They put a flier on our door recently, so I felt compelled to write this polite review before my spouse writes a more harshly-worded review. Unless you know a lot about your type of trees, and can watch through every step of the process personally, and not pay anything until the job is 100% complete to your agreement, I would opt for a different service.

I got the Angie's List Big Deal for their service. They were very professional and were efficient.

I saw their ratings on Angies list and I then went to their website which said that they do tree removal. I bought a $125 coupon for $250 worth of tree work. I called them up and they told me that they don't remove tree stumps but outsource the work. He gave me the name of the guy that they hire for removing the stump. He gave me a price of $4.50 per inch depending on the diameter of the tree. I had a stump of 48 inches and I figured that the price may work out to about $300 even with some extras. I called up Brents Tree Service and they send an estimator out who gave me an estimate of $412 plus tax. That was way more than what I was considering. They also tried to up sell things to me. So, I still paid about $300, which is what it would cost if I had gone straight to the stump removal guy. The guy who removed the stump did not speak English but he did a good job. He came a day later and took the stump and roots away.

This was one of my worst nightmares! I would give them an F except the actual work was decent by the time it got done. I used a Big Deal coupon, as funds are tight. I had the estimator Thomas come out, and showed him all the possible work I wanted done. I had intended to then choose only what fell within the limits of my coupon. He quoted me $135 more than the $250 coupon would allow, and when I asked him to NOT do a couple of things, so I wouldn't pay extra, he said "It doesn't work that way". He refused to take anything off the estimate, because he said he was giving me such a good deal that taking anything off would still leave the price the same! He was condescending and rude, and finally bullied me into signing the estimate. After thinking about it, I decided that was not what I wanted to do, and contacted the office. Larry, the phone guy, was very nice, and said he would have someone get back to me. Well, it was Thomas that called back, and we got into it again. He said some very rude things to me! I was furious. I called the office again and asked for the manager. In the meantime, they took me off the schedule. I finally talked to the manager, and we got everything straight and re-scheduled for another day, even though I didn't like that day because I was going to be gone part of the day. He also admitted that they had fired Thomas. They came, of course while I was gone, and did most of the work, but missed the oleanders completely. I also didn't like what they did to my oak, as they took almost half of it off! So I had to call again, and have them come out again. This time, Chris came, and he was very nice. He explained they did do to the oak what it needed, and he trimmed up the oleander. It didn't look very good but it is filling in now some. They did cut the tree and hedges down to the ground nicely. As I said, the actual work was decent enough, but the days of fuming and calling and then ending up paying more than I wanted just soured me on them forever.

The salesman came very late (and was late every other time he said he would come by) to begin the process. He was knowledgeable and helpful in providing tips when asked. I told him that I didn't think that we could afford doing everything I wanted to, so I was going to show him the most important items that needed to be done. That estimate was only $300, so I asked how much it would be to do everything and it came in to $850, which we could afford to do. Althought I was only planning on spending $600, it was totally worth it to get it all done all at once.

After contacting Brents Tree Service, an appointment was quickly arranged for an on site estimate for the removal of several large piles of brush from my property. They were very flexible in agreeing on a time and date for the estimate, and were punctual and professional when they came to assess the job/estimate, despite the extreme cold that day. I was quite happy with what I found to be a very reasonable and fair price quote, and, they came out the very next day to perform the work! They completed the task just as I had requested, even doing a good job of cleaning up afterward as well on the street where the chipper had been running. All in all, I was very happy with the service, and would definitely consider choosing them again for future tree service as I may have some trees taken down. Great job!

The owner came by early in the day, as I had an appointment, and he made sure the job was surveyed and quoted in time for me to make my appointment. His crew came by later and completed the job to my satisfaction. It was a GREAT experience.

I think that the tree trimming went pretty well. We were not around when the trees were trimmed, and I will make a point of being present when it is done again so I will know more about the what will be thinned or trimmed. The trees look much better for the upcoming growing season. I looked over the two trees pretty carefully the next day and found some cuts that hadn't had black paint sprayed on them. I used some Tree Seal on these cuts.
