We worked with Eric Zimmerman as Bowne's representative on our job, and he is a pleasure to work with, very reliable and very professional. The electricians Eric sent our were always polite, friendly and competent. Very importantly, Eric was proactive about schedules, he anticipated what needed to be doneand planned and executed so that everything happened on time. We had two other companies involved in our remodel, a general contractor, Ferguson, and a cabinet supplier, KitchnCraft (we've reviewed both). Eric worked with both of these companies to schedule work, pull permits and schedule inspections. Eric was always reachable by both phone and email and was very prompt in his responses. His written estimates were always clear, sufficiently detailed, and to the point. We are very pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Bowne re-routed wiring in a kitchen ceiling that we raised from 7 to 8 feet, brought all our kitchen circuitry up to city codes by creating new branch circuitry, creating proper receptacles for range hood, garbage disposal and dishwasher, and by creating the number of counter top outlets required by new city codes. They also brought other aspects of our house up to code, for instance, by installing electrically connected smoke alarms upstairs and downstairs. In addition, they installed under cabinet lighting for our new kitchen cabinets, and installed recessed lights, most of them on dimmers, in our kitchen, our second living room, and our main entrance hallway. Lastly, they took down several old light fixtures in rooms where we did paint and sheet rock work on our ceiling (as part of a general remodel), and then installed new fixtures in their place.

Representative called previous Friday to be sure there was no emergency. Once confirmed, advised would call and be here on Monday (24th). Called first and were right on time. Went through the list of items needing attention; went to work and completed entire list in about 2 hours or so. All completed and working well.

I called and set up an appointment to review my electrical problems and the call was handled throroughly and professionally. They called me before my appointment day to let me know they had an opening so I met them at my house 15 minutes later. The electricians interviewed me about the problems I was having which made me feel they were very thorough. They suggested a solution of replacing the breakers and said if that turns out to be unsuccessful, I may need to run another circuit. They replaced the breakers and completed the job start to finish in about 15 minutes. I have had no problems in the month since they performed the work. I felt the price was a little higher than other electricians (based on reviewing others on Angie's list) but it was worth it to me that they were nearby and very professional. I will hire them again for any electrical needs.

I needed a 100 amp feed run from my supply panel to a building about 100 feet away. I had the trenching done by another company so in theory the electricians just needed to run some conduit and wire and install a new panel on my building. They had given me an estimate which I thought was reasonable for the work. When they arrived and examined the trenching that had been done, they showed me a couple places where the depth was insufficient and others where the trench did not reach close enough to the building. One of the guys spent half the day with the jack hammer extending and widening the trenches. They put the conduit in, but the trenches had a couple bends that were sharper than we had planned for. They managed, with a lot of extra work, to get the cables pulled in spite of the less than optimum trenching. They got the panel installed and all of my circuits connected, and left around dark. I know they spent more time there than we had anticipated. Nonetheless, they held the price to the estimate they had given me. I would call them again.
Description of Work: Install 100 amp feed from main panel to new building 100 feet away. Install panel in new building and connect about 10 circuits that I had run to the new panel.

Setting up the appointment went exceedingly well. We called in mid-afternoon and were delighted to be told that an electrician could come and do the work the following morning. The office kept us informed of the electrician's estimated arrival time, giving us approximately 30-45 minutes' notice. Unfortunately, the electrician who did the work apparently has an extreme aversion to reading installation directions. The fan we purchased is a high-end model with numerous decorative pieces and a sophistocated remote control system. Instead of consulting the directions, which clearly laid out which pieces went where in step-by-step fashion, the electrician first hung the fan motor without installing either the upper, lighted glass shade or the remote control transmitter. When my husband and I (who were looking at the picture of our fan and eyeballing the number of unused pieces still lying on the counter) pointed out the discrepancies, he essentially had to un-do all his previous work and start over. Even more discouraging was that he made another time-consuming mistake for the exact same reason while installing the light kit. On the upside, we're pretty sure we were cut a break on the billing. (He was here an awfully long time for what we ended up being charged.) And we have a beautiful new, flawlessly operating fan.
Description of Work: Remove an existing ceiling fan/light kit and install a new ceiling fan/light kit.

Response from Bowne Electric Inc
We agree that the electrician that performed the work at this customer's home should have handled the installation of her fan more efficiently. We sincerely regret that this customer's experience with our electrician was less than satisfactory but appreciate this customer's feedback. We hope that in the future we are afforded the opportunity to provide this customer with the kind of quality work that our company's reputation has been built upon.

The technician arrived. He took his boots off so not to track dirt on the carpet. He determined that the outlet should be replaced. We told him that we had already replaced the outlet on our own and that it was something else. He was able to determine it was a short. He had a tough time fishing wire down the wall. You could tell it was frustrating him; or maybe it was the fact the job was going to take longer than he originally thought. He wasn't overly personable, but the job seems to have been done correctly. There is now a hole in the dry wall where he cut in to fish wire, but this is SOP for all electricians I'm told. We will need to patch it on our own. He had to make phone calls a couple of times to ask questions on what to do for the next part of the job. If the technician was more personable and knowledgeable, we would have scored Bowne an A for overall experience.
Description of Work: A GFCI outlet was not working, causing several outlets in the kitchen not to work. He determined it was a short. He cut a hole in the wall above our kitchen cabinets and fished a new wire to the circuit.

Came out promptly when called. Provided an estimate quickly. Did the work when scheduled and at the estimated prices. The manager/detailer is really a nice guy, professional, not a hard sale guy. The workers were pleasant, clean and cleaned up after themselves. I had a great experience with this company and will use them again if I have electrical needs.

The job went well, on time and was professional.
Description of Work: Adam Bowne replaced 3 outside lights within about 45 minutes and did a very professional job. He was friendly and obviously knew what he was doing. The price was fair. I had another estimate from "Mr. Electric" for well ove $300 which was outrageous and they didn't seem to care if they got my business or not. Angies list works and I thank you.

Eric did a thorough evaluation of the job before giving a proposal. Examined attic clearances, existing switching, etc. Way more thorough than two other proposals I received. The other bidders did not even go in the attic or remove any switch plates to see what they were dealing with. The other bidders told me that the cost would have to be adjusted if there was not enough room for a wire here, or a switch there. Eric determined everything up front. The electricians who performed the work were John and Ruth. They arrived on time and did a fantastic job in exactly the amount of time proposed. They were very professional and treated my family and my house with courtesy and respect. I would recommend them without hesitation. I will definitely use Browne again.

Brock and his helper Ben arrived a few minutes before our scheduled start time. The first task was to determine if the exhaust fan install was even possible (another electrician gave up on it because of the cramped attic configuration). We came up with a plan and they went to work. It took two to fish the flex-duct through the tight space in the attic. After that, Brock did most of the fan work and Ben worked on the plugs and lights. They worked steadily, completed the work and cleaned up in less than 3.5 hours.
Description of Work: They installed an exhaust fan in one bathroom (including ducting to the outside), installed a GFCI plug in each of two bathrooms and installed new light fixtures in both bathrooms (removing the old fixtures and moving from ceiling mount to wall mount).

Bowne was very responsive when I called them and set up an appointment a few days after the call. The electrician showed up exactly at the designated time. The work was to put in an outlet box after some inept contractor had removed an older box and then could not figure how to put it back on when he found an extra wire was attached that he didn't expect. The electrician from Bowne (didn't catch his name, it was early) quickly figured out which wires were needed and which were not and put in a new box. The box didn't fit the hole in the tile so he chipped a tiny bit of tile out to make the newer box fit to replace the old box which was 50 years old. He was very resourceful to figure it all out and get it replaced in a short amount of time. He also fixed the back porch light by just straightening some tabs inside the outlet that had gotten bent back and did not charge for that. The new outlet looks good like it has always been there and he cleaned up the dirt that came off the old wires and fell on our counter. It was good to have this gaping hole in our counter with exposed wires finally fixed in a professional manner.

Our heat/vent/light unit in our master bath stopped working. So we contacted Bowne Electric from Angie's List. JD performed the work. The work was done great! JD showed up on time and completed the work in just over an hour. He also cleaned up after he was done. We've had no problems with the unit ever since.
Description of Work: JD replaced a switch and installed a heat/vent/light unit in our master bathroom. This required testing an original unit to make sure that it was broken. After diagnosing the problem, he suggested that replacing the unit would likely be cheaper than repairing it. We had already purchased a replacement thinking that this might be the case. So he removed the existing unit, which was no longer working, and then installed a new one that we had purchased.

The work went extremely well! Mark called two days after I accepted the bid and said he had the materials and was ready to go. The electricians on the job were excellent. They spent the first day digging a 3 foot deep hole for a ground plate and the trench to bring the service from the garage to the house. They were very careful about the existing sprinkler system and plants in the flower bed. Each day they arrived exactly on time, worked non-stop and were very knowledgeable. They pulled the exterior wire and then worked on the inside, pulling line and connecting it to the outside and inside sub-panel. The final day was spent installing the dryer, bathroom and ceiling fan outlets. They filled in the trench that was dug and made sure that the soil was level. They cleaned up and vacuumed each day. They are extremely pleasant and very professional. I cannot say enough good things about this company.
Description of Work: I originally wanted to add a dedicated outlet for a dryer. Mark Edwards came out and inspected the current service that I had. There was not a place to add another line. He talked to me about adding an additional line and bringing my service up to code. He listened to me, answered questions and showed me how the service would come in to my garage, then would be fed through a conduit along the side of my garage and in a trench through the yard to my house. I had an interior panel upgraded and an outlet added in the bathroom. The outlet in the bedroom was fixed to accommodate a ceiling fan. Two additional outlets were added outside - one at the front and one at the back of the house. Mark conferred with the city of Austin prior to giving me a bid so that I could choose where I wanted the service. (One option required that a tree would have had to been severely pruned and I did not want that). The proposal was very professional and Mark was very pleasant to work with.

Jay, the lead electrician and his colleague showed up on-time and as soon as I told them of the first task. The colleague immediately went to work while I showed Jay all of the other tasks I wanted done. They were very efficient in getting to all the tasks at hand quickly, wasting no time to get everything done. They cleaned-up after themselves and collected all of the old parts so that there was minimal work to do other than dispose of all the old fixtures. They were skilled and courteous. A very pleasant experience.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and corrected an issue where four exterior lights were no longer working. Installed eight exterior lights (removing three old lights that had not yet been removed), diagnosed why a four-way switch configurations was not working correctly, and replaced five dimmer switches.

They did a good job. The workers were friendly. My contractor did most of the communications with them. The cost was included in my contractor s price. The work was done in a timely manner. All the electrical work in the remodeling project is fine.
Description of Work: Bowne Electric did the electrical work when we did some remodeling work in our home. We removed two walls and they re-did the electrical work to allow for that. They just added two more outlets on the existing walls. We were making a one great big family room. They did add a light fixture with ceiling fan in the center of the new room.

I liked this company a lot. There was actually some work I wanted them to do that they were unable to do. They were really upfront with me about that though. A lot of companies these days would attempt to try and do work that they're not capable of doing just to make an extra buck. This company was honest with me and only would attempt to do work that they knew they could accurately complete. They did a great job for me and I found their prices to be reasonable. I paid probably around a thousand dollars for the work they did do in my home. I had them doing quite a bit so I felt like I was satisfied by the time it was all said and done.
Description of Work: This company replaced all of my electrical panels for me in my 1500 square foot home. They also installed three or four outlets in my attic. Our home is a fifty three year old house, so our systems needed to be brought up to code.
