They worked with me on a house with aluminum wiring bringing it up to code for sale and on separate house installed new panel and a new ground. They did an excellent job! I will highly recommend them and use them, again.

Bowne does good work w/conscientious professionals. Dispatcher EJ always listened to my problems and responded appropriately and sent out qualified electricians. THEY ARE BUSY--it can take a week++ just to get on their schedule. THEY ARE NOT CHEAP!! They work by the hour (T&M) and you have to stay after them to give you a cost breakdown when they bill. On one light fixture they hung it out of square. I discussed it with them and they rehung it at no cost. So, I feel good about their quality and competence, I just wish they weren't so expensive. They are good for work that only an electrician can do, but simple light fixture replacements can be done for better prices.

All of the scheduled appointments were done professionally and with punctuality. The coordination with the city went off without a hitch. All of the people who worked on the project were very polite and effective. Communication was great throughout the process. They left the work site clean.
Description of Work: We needed the weather head replaced. At the same time that we had the repair done, we opted to have the service increased as our 60 year old house had doubled in size since it was built.

We scheduled a time for them to come out and review the scope of the job and give me a quote. Todd was on time, asked a lot of questions, and said that he would have a quote to me in a couple of days. I received to the quote in a timely manner and agreed to do the job. The workmen were on time, worked very hard and cleaned up after themselves. Great compamy to do business with.
Description of Work: Needed some electrical wiring up-dated and some new circuits added. Needed to up-grade my service to 200Amp.When I called to get a quote, I was told that it would be a few weeks before they could get to me as they were very busy. I originally called Lyons Electric, and was referred to Bowne. As I remember, Lyons was unable to do the work, as they were heavily booked. The Bowne electrician came out within a day or so, and was prompt. He found that the connections beneath the switch plate had become loose, and some insulation had burned around the wires. He quickly repaired the connections and added a new switch plate.

When I called the office, I was able to talk to a professional who knew what he was talking about. He gave me an estimate over the phone and we scheduled for the next week. The two-man crew arrived on time. They had all of the correct equipment and were very good about clarifying instructions. They installed a ceiling fan, a new workshop light, a new switch plate, and two new outlets. Everything works exactly as I wanted it to! The crew was very professional - on task the entire time, cleaned up after themselves, and did an excellent job. This was more expensive than some of the competitors, but the joy of having a job done right the first time was so worth it! Thank you, Browne Electric!

The electrician was professional and friendly. He provided suggestions for the best placement of the outlets that we had not thought about which made the bathroom more aesthetically pleasing. We have used this company a couple of times now and they are simply excellent in responsiveness, professionalism, competency and reasonably priced.

I was very unhappy. I was really upset. The estimate was outrageous.
Description of Work: I called Bowne Electric and I had no problems setting an appointment so I was very happy with that. I spoke with them and told them what I was looking to have done and the gentleman said that he has to come out and look at it. I asked them if I will be charged if they come out, they told me no but I was charged when they got here. He reworded it saying that it should have been a $180 but he gave me a break. He got out here, he said that he will do the work, he sit around not really working, went up my attic left the light on and left the attic open. I wanted a light switch in the bathroom from one wall to another wall.

Response from Bowne Electric Inc
We were so sorry to learn that (member name removed) had this experience with us.The nature of the compliant was extremely out of character for the level of service that we provide. But we reviewed the documentation and we were able to identify that there was an unfortunate miscommunication between our office and our electrician which resulted in (member name removed) being charged our hourly rate. Ultimately, our apologies to this customer have been made directly as of this morning and she is being refunded the hourly rate of $90.00 that she has already paid because she did only ask us to provide an estimate and in her situation the hourly rate should not have applied. To explain further, our electricians are not usually the ones scheduled to provide estimates (it is usually done by a project manager) but in this case the customer was wanting the work to be performed same day if it was affordable. This situation was out of protocol for our electrician and he was not properly informed by our office that he might not be performing any work that day. Regardless, we believe our electrician could have conducted himself in a more professional manner even though there was some confusion and have educated him on how to better handle unique situations such as these. Although we wish this would not have happened, it has given us an opportunity to learn from the mistakes made and educate our employees.

After listening to my description of the situation & what I had accomplished so far, they proceeded with a thorough analysis of their own. An attempt to attack the problem from the attic failed due to the fixture availability. Post installation expansion in the area had "boxed" the fixture in place. The problem was then attacked from below thru the bezel opening - really space constrained - work was slow, but their patience paid off -- the repair was successfully completed; no plaster work was required! They left the work area clean. Excellent job!! `

He was able to get all the work done in 1.5 hour and it everything looks great now. H was very courteous, polite and professional. Since they were working on some contract work, they couldn't promise me a certain time, they had to call ahead when they had an opening to check to see if it would work for me.
Description of Work: I had him do a few projects for us. A GFCI kept triggering so we couldn't keep our christmas lights on. We also have a fountain that had a similar outlet so he took care of replacing both outlets. He also replaced our doorbell and installed light sensors on exterior lights (the price includes the replacement of the outlets, not the doorbell).

Erick came out and took a look at my existing electrical panel. I thought I would need more work done because plugging things in a couple of places in the house would cause fuses to trip, etc. Erick advised me to wait before having a bunch of work done. He thought that upgrading the service might take care of some of my concerns rather than just add on more work and cost on my part. They came out and did the work in a timely manner. They were courteous and very professional. Erick was right, I haven't had any electrical issues since. The only thing I wish is that they had been a bit more aggressive with the tree cutting, it's only been a few months and the tree limbs have grown close to the lines again. Other than that little detail, I could not be happier.

Mr. Zimmerman was extremely professional and punctual, and spend a great deal of time with me in putting together a proposal and estimate. I had wanted a rough estimate for a complete rewire, and Mr. Zimmerman took the time to create an entire plan of the existing system -- something I admittedly had not anticipated, nor intended for him to do at that stage. I had some sticker shock from the $17,000 price tag (which in hindsight was a fair price). I had numerous questions about cost-saving, and I also felt that if I was doing a complete rewire, I would want to update and change locations of fixtures and switches rather than stick with existing plan. Ultimately, I did not get much follow through on all my queries, for which I do not blame Mr. Zimmerman. I'm sure I sounded like I would not be doing the work, and he had done a lot of work upfront to provide me with an accurate estimate. I ultimately ended up working with two different electricians, but I wonder if I wouldn't have done better with Bowne. (I was disappointed with the first of the two electricians I hired.)
Description of Work: Received a bid for a complete electrical re-wire after purchasing a 1950's house and discovering dangerous existing DIY electrical work throughout, with reversed polarity, junctions hidden in walls, in-wall wiring done with lamp cord, no grounding on 3-prong receptacles, etc.

This company provided excellent service! I called for an appointment this morning and the electrician, EJ, arrived at my home around 12:30. He quickly installed the new light fixture, showing me different ways it could be mounted and holding it up for me in each position so I could make a decision. He also installed a light fixture on a ceiling fan and showed me how to use the remote control to dim the light, a feature I didn't know it had. He quickly fixed a recessed light which had dropped and was no longer flush with the ceiling. EJ took time to answer questions I had about light switch wiring and replacing outlets in the future as well and offered to take the empty boxes and packaging the lights came in. I have not received such excellent customer service in a long time. I will definitely call this company in the future, they were great!

I have used Bowne Electric for at least 15 years, in two different houses. At my old home, they upgraded the outdoor electrical, installed ceiling fans, light fixtures, added outlets, installed GFCI circuits, etc. I was very satisfied with the work, as I always have been. Bowne staff are easy to work with, pleasant and professional. Bowne was recommended to me by my contractor 15 years ago and I have never used another electrician since that time.
Description of Work: My most recent service was in my new home to add a switch, light and receptacle in the master bedroom, add a light fixture and switch in a closet, install a switch and light in the attic and change out an existing motion sensor light in the back yard. The work in the master bedroom required two electricians, attic access and fishing of wires that took quite a while.

I called them for an estimate on installing two ventilating fans in both bathrooms. They came out promptly, gave us a quote which we approved, and came out at our convenience to install them. They had to cut a larger space in the ceiling in order to secure the fans properly. Both the estimator and workers were efficient and professional and cleaned up the few bits of debris that fell down.
Description of Work: They removed two old heater fans in two bathrooms and installed two very quiet ventilating fans. They gave us the choice of either purchasing the fans from local stores or having them provide them. We asked them to furnish the fans since the only ones we could find would be noisy.

The canned lights in several rooms of the house were making a cracking noise. My house is 40 years old, and I knew there were still some traces of aluminum wiring. My husband called first thing in the morning, and a technician arrived before lunch. The technician found that I had the wrong kind of light bulbs in one room. He went up in the attic to check the wiring, and he found that the cans did have newer copper wiring. He also discovered extra insulation at the tops of many of the cans, causing them to heat up faster. He explained that the cans were metal, and the rims were metal. The cracking sound came from when they expanded and contracted. The technician was young, and when he had questions, he did not hesitate to call his supervisior. I appreciated how he did not pretend to know everything and how he had such a good working relationship with his supervisor. The technician replaced the light bulbs in the master bedroom and checked the rest of the cans in several rooms. I was also concerned about two light switches. He checked both and replaced only the one that needed to be replaced.
Description of Work: Examined canned lighting to determine source of noise, replaced light bulbs, removed extra insulation from behind cans, evaluated 2 light switches and replaced one.
