Arborist (Daniel) seemed very knowledgable. He gave us clear alternatives and a recommendation. We decided to have the tree cut down. Price was competitive. As importantly, because our tree was at risk of failure and damaging stuff around it, they responded quickly (presumably by bumping other jobs to make this a priority) whereas others I contacted had a longer wait even despite the circumstances. Crew did a great job cutting down and removing the tree. Nothing around it damaged. Not a twig left in the yard.
Description of Work: They cut down a medium sized tree in my yard.

I had an oak tree that was sick probably as a result of the drought last summer. I called and was able to schedule a consultation for the following week. After the consultation, they emailed me a written bid for the work to be done. We were able to schedule the crew for the following week. They arrived on time. It wasn't a huge job and a 3-man crew finished in a couple of hours. This is the second time I have used this company, although the first time was a couple of years ago. I thought the price this time was great but the price last time was fair. The service was great and they are easy to work with. I will continue to use them in the future.
Description of Work: consultation, cut dying limb off of large oak tree, removed additional dead limbs off of 2 or 3 oak trees in back yard.

We called them and we scheduled a time to meet at the property. Keith evaluated the trees in question and made his recommendations. He gave us an estimate on the spot so we could make a decision while standing there looking at the trees. We decided how we wanted to move forward. Kacy called us from the office the next day to schedule the work. The different crews showed up on time, got the work done and hauled off all the debris. Cost was very fair, timing was great (we needed services from 3 different crews - they were all coordinated well and I was kept informed throughout the process.
Description of Work: We are new to Austin and depend on Angie's List for professionals - especially for bigger expenses. Keith Brown and his crew at Austin Tree Experts are outstanding. Keith knows trees. We had an oak that had some new growth but lots of dead wood and it was leaning over our house. Remove or repair? Keith evaluated the overall health of the tree and recommended removal. Once the crew began taking the tree down it was clear that it was severely damaged - all the way to about 5 feet from the base of the trunk. Someone else might have suggested trying to save the tree by pruning and adding additional support (extra expense) only to have to come back later and remove the tree. We hated to lose the tree but are very glad that we only had to pay once - rather than paying to try to save a dead tree and removing it later. We have a fabulous pecan in the front yard that also suffered from the drought. We would have HATED to lose it too but it had similar problems - leaning and lots of dead wood. Keith and his crew knew exactly how to treat the save the tree. We look forward to enjoying it for many years to come. Everyone we dealt from Kacy in the office to Keith and his crews were sharp, efficient, careful professionals who showed on on time and cleaned up after themselves! We would absolutly use them again.

The last couple of times I have had Austin Tree Experts out, they have not shown up when they were scheduled. Either they came early or didn't show at all. I have spoken with the office person and the arborists about my wishes to be present when work is being done. I scheduled this job for the afternoon so that I could be home from work and gave my cell number so that if they got to my house early, they could call and I would leave work. That morning, I spoke with the office person and again gave my cell number and made my wishes clear that I wanted to be called before work began. I am a hands on home owner and prefer to be on premises when I am having work done. I find that jobs go smoother when I am available to answer questions and give information (i.e. electrical wiring). I arrived at my house that afternoon and the men had already taken down a portion of the tree. I called the office person and left a message for her to call me. (I still haven't heard from her.) I asked the guy in charge why he did not call as I had requested. He informed me that he had gotten an email telling him my address and which tree but no other information. The guys performing the work were efficient, careful, very good, and polite. They were particularly diligent when dropping the trimmed limbs so that no damage was done to my patio or house. They stacked the wood where I asked but what would they have done with it if I hadn't have gotten home? I will probably still use them for fertilizing but I'm not sure about anything else. They have again disappointed me in their lack of communication and customer service.
Description of Work: For this particular job, I had them remove a dead oak tree. The oak was close to my house and close to a screen porch, skylights and a glass door. There was also electric wiring that had been run close to the trunk. I've been using this company for many years. They have pruned, taken out dead trees and fertilized my trees.

The estimator came out, looked at the work, and gave a bid of $250 (others had bid up to $1000 for the same work). On the scheduled day the trimmers showed up on time, walked around with me to make sure they understood the job, and completed the work quickly. They then walked around with me again to make sure I was satisfied with the work (I was) and cleaned up all the debris.

They did great work and the office staff was very helpful and congenial. The arborist came to the house to look at the trees in my yard, and then sent me an e-mail of three estimates for various work they could do on the trees. The only problem I had was that when I selected the service I wanted from the e-mail they sent me, I did not get any confirmation that they had received the correct information. It worked out fine though, and they did an excellent job.

I bought a house with 4 pecan trees and an oak and need to have someone come out and see if they need pruning or any other work. I really wanted to use this company based on their good reviews but they charge a $150 consultation fee. The lady on the phone said they will waive it if there's any work that needs to be done but being on a budget I can't risk having to pay $150 just to get my trees looked at. Really depressing that the consultation fee would be so high so just be warned. I didn't see this mentioned anywhere else on here. UPDATE - Was looking at my old reviews and noticed this one had a comment. I was really shocked at the tone (and honestly a little offended). I never implied or expressed that I expected the service to be free but I did, and still do, find $150 to be too high. I had another arborist (also highly rated on Angie's list) come and their fee was $85. Maybe it wasn't as good of a service but I'll never know as after reading the response to my first review I know I made the right decision not to go with this provider. Also - the "drive by" option was never mentioned when I called.
Description of Work: No work - just initial consultation fee discussion.

Response from Austin Tree Experts
I am sorry to have disappointed you by no being able to provide a free evaluation. I'd like to take this opportunity to provide some feedback to others on our policy for consultation fees. If you want an unbiased evaluation of your trees (where we are not trying to sell you anything) and you do not know if you need any service, we charge a $150 consultation site visit fee. This fee accounts for one hour of my time: 20 minutes of drive time and 40 minutes of consulting time. This $150 is a minimum charge, we do not prorate appointments that take less than 40 minutes. Unfortunately, we are unable to do assessments for everyone that calls in at no charge. Too often, there is no work that needs to be done, and we must make a profit to stay in business. To off-set the potential for these appointments that yield no business for us, we charge consultation site visit fees. If the consultation results in work that needs to be done and you hire us to do the work, the $150 is applied to the project. The $150 site visit fee does not cover costs of any written reports, that is extra. Cost depends on the type of report you need. If you don't know whether or not your trees need service, you can circumvent the consultation fee by asking for a "drive-by" bid, rather than asking for an evaluation. We'll happily drive by your property and provide a bid for anything your trees need if we can do the "drive-by" at our convenience without having to take the time to meet with you and discuss everything on the spot. If you receive a bid from a "drive-by" appointment and would like to do work, we will be happy to meet with you to walk through the job and discuss the scope of work and condition of the trees. If you have any questions about our policies for free bids and paid consultations, please contact Kacy in the office at 996-9100. Thanks, Keith Brown Board Certified Master Arborist TX-0985BT owner Austin Tree Experts

I initially contacted them in the fall and Keith told me I didn't need any trimming then and to call him again in the spring. Called them again and he came out, gave me a detailed explanation of what my tree did and did not need in terms of trimming. I was away when they did the work but everything was clean and tidy when I returned. He was more expensive that a previous tree service I used but they were not certified arborists and I really respect Keith's expertise, experience, and professionalism. I will definitely use him again.

Working with Austin Tree Experts was a rewarding and pleasant experience and my thanks to all involved. The owner, and master arborist, Keith Brown, came as scheduled and did an extensive walk around my lot to discuss the work to be done. I had many trees and shrubs in dire need of pruning or removal to domesticate my yard once again. I was not sorry that I had selected this firm based on their expertise and outstanding reviews by others. Keith is a Master Arborist - and self admitted tree hugger, which made us kindred spirits. This was especially important to me as I was making some difficult decisions to remove some large, old, but not totally viable trees and I needed advice upon which I felt I could depend. Once the removal decisions were made, the crew came in and worked from 8:30 to 4:30/5:00 for four days, accomplishing an amazing amount of work each day. It was a lot of fun just watching them work. They were careful and safety conscious, while scurrying up tall trees like monkies (no slur intended,) and pruning each tree as though it were their own. They also removed many undesirable small trees and shrubs and ground all stumps to ground level. I really appreciated that the limbs and debris were transported to a chipper company at the end of each day, thus eliminating the dirty, noisy job of chipping on site. When all of the work was finished, the yard was completely cleaned and clear of any leftover branches and leaves; only sawdust remained where stumps had been ground. And a small stack of firewood that I had requested, cut to size and neatly stacked. Then a large trailer load of very high quality mulch was delivered for a small fee for use in the yard. I was absolutely pleased with the dedicated, professional manner in which each member of the team worked, from the owner and arborist, to the supervisor and his team, and the office manager who helped out tremendously. I have no hesitation in recommending this company for all your requirements for tree care. My tardiness in submitting this report in no way reflects on my satisfaction for the outstanding performance by this company, but rather my own carelessness when I thought I had finished writing and submitting it before I left for a vacation abroad. I'm grateful that Angie's List followed up on the incomplete report so that I can appropriately commend all concerned.
Description of Work: Pruned all trees on a large lot to remove all deadwood, remove rubbing limbs, and thin canopies. Removed three large ash trees, two medium live oak, and one bradford pear to ground level. Removed appropriate small understory trees to allow light for development of adjacent trees and lawn. Removed overgrown ligurstrum and youpon trees/shrubs planted too close to house. Ground ALL stumps below ground level and ground out surface roots on oak obstructing the fence line. Delivered trailerload (approximately four cubic yards) of high quality mulch. Removed all debris and cleaned entire area thoroughly.

They came out within a few days after I called- I had moved to an older house with a lot of trees and I don't think they had been cared for. They gave him a big estimate of a lot of work that needed to be done. I walked through with them and they were very knowledgable about the trees, pointed out what needed to be done first and why. There were several trees with major branches overhanging the roof. There were some trees that needed to be removed . , everything was explained. They gave me a rate for one day and said they would start with the most important and work down the list for the entire day, which is what they did. They put in a good days work and cleaned up well afterwards. I would use them again

Keith, the owner, came by to provide an estimate to trim several large oaks. They would not be available to provide services for 3 weeks, but we made an appointment with them anyway. We decided all of our other landscaping plans could wait on this service, based on the rave reviews they have on angie's list. The day of the appointment, no one showed up. No one called. I left messages at 1:00pm and again at 2:30. My phone calls were not returned until 5:30pm. Apparently, they weren't going to be able to make it out. The landscaping work scheduled to begin 2 days later would either have to be postponed or the tree work could be rescheduled for 2 weeks later. We were very disappointed with the lack of communication and neglect. They wasted a significant amount of our time.

They came and did a great job. We were very happy and pleased with them. They did a beautiful job. The dead branches on the trees had never been trimmed. We recently bought this house. I don?t think the people who owned it before us had anything done. We weren?t really happy with the way the trees looked. That?s why we did this. They did a terrific job and there were several guys working here. They were up on the trees and it was a one day job, which was great. It looks a lot better. They were very professional. We were very happy with the job they did and how they were. It was a very good experience. My husband interviewed people before he chose the company who would do the trees. He picked the company he thought was the best. It was very important to us that the trees looked good. The price that we paid them was worth for what they did. They were here on time. They were very knowledgeable about trees too. We liked the result very much. There were some guys sent over to work on the trees in our previous house and I couldn?t even watch them since it was awful. They obviously didn?t know what they were doing and even I knew they didn?t know what they were doing. We would definitely use Austin Tree Experts in the future too.

I trust Austin Trees so much that I allow them to do work on my trees when I am not present. This is saying a great deal. You can't glue limbs back on! The work was done very well, and the price was as we agreed. With Austin Trees as my partner, these trees will bring joy to many for years to come.
Description of Work: I have large live oaks in my yard, and I am very concerned about oak wilt. I want my trees to be healthy and live a very long time. They grew so much during the summer that the limbs were getting low and obstructing the view and making it necessary to duck in the back yard. Austin Trees is the only one I trust with these trees. Tara came out and gave me an estimate. We talked about possibilities, and I appreciate her knowledge and commitment to our urban forest.

The whole tree trimming process went better than we could have hoped. I had been putting it off because I thought the cost would have been exorbitant, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was upfront with Keith, the owner about having a budget, and he shocked me by telling me that the trees didn't need a lot of fussing. He offered some suggestions to support the health of the trees, and it coincided perfectly with what we had in mind. Keith was so knowledgeable and took the time to answer my questions in great detail. I really felt like I got a great education during his visit. The crew was polite, efficient, and cleaned up really well. I had a little trouble scheduling after Keith came to quote Apparently, some paperwork lost in the system, but it was just a small delay and then everything was taken care of just fine. I didn't want to trust our trees, something that adds so much value to our property, to just anyone. I felt like Austin Tree Experts were professional, knowledgeable, and a good value. We'll definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We recently moved into our home and needed to clear trees off and away from our two story home to prevent access to the roof by squirrels, rats, etc. We also wanted to raise some low hanging limbs in the back yard and over the driveway. Fabulous work, particularly with a large ash. Prices seemed a bit on the high side (I was quoted $900 to remove two large trees in the front of the property. This work is still pending.) We've used this company several times. We have many trees -- mostly oaks, and need pruning/maintenance done every year. Austin Tree Experts have proven to be reliable, professional and trustworthy. They come out in advance to discuss your needs, and give an accurate estimate of costs. They know trees, and have always offered good advice, without any "up-selling." The work is always excellent. They always leave the yard clean and free of debris. The trees look great when they've finished the work. I highly recommend this company!

Overall, it was fantastic. Micah came over and gave a very detailed description of what needed to be done and what was a nice to have but not necessary. We did have a minor blip with the scheduling due to Hermine (it was a hectic time and they were very apologetic) and the online billing system caused me some grief, but they were very professional and acted quickly to correct the situation. They promptly sent an arborist over. They did not take responsibility for causing the oak to fall. Their claim was they did not use the branch in any way to attach ropes. However, it is common to rope branches to higher limbs to let them down slowly. The arborist claimed the tree had mold and then used the weather as explanation for the coincidence. It did rain but I was out in the rain (grilling with an umbrella) and there were no strong winds. Sorry but the evidence points to them pulling down the trunk of an oak and they would not consider the possibility that it was their fault. They have a great customer interface but some bad decisions made during the job. My opinion, they aren't as good as their rating.

The crew was fast and left the property as neat as they found it. We did have to wait about two weeks for the service. It was definitely worth the wait. The price was the best we have ever had for tree trimming. We will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Austin Tree Experts removed two trees ( a cedar and a small live oak) and trimmed several others.
