After I called for an estimate, It took them two days to call me back, and when they did, they said they would send an arborist four days later to give me an estimate. Three days after the arborist was to have come, I called the company to ask about my estimate. The woman who answered the phone said she would call me right back....six hours later, she called to tell me that no one had been to my house, but she would make sure it was taken care of that same day. I still have not had anyone at my house nor have I heard another word from them. They may do a good job once they finally get to your house, but it seems crazy to have to work so hard to give a company money. I'm going to look elsewhere and don't plan to ever bother with this company again.

Absolutely outstanding service! From the moment Keith arrived - on time - it was a very smooth operation. Adrian, in the office, was very professional, as well, as she scheduled the service and followed up with a reminder call. Austin Tree Experts website made the whole experience easy as the proposal, scheduled date, invoice, and payment was all completed over the internet. Keith came with the crew the first morning and we all toured the yard and he explained in detail to his team leader what need to be done. The crew obviously knew what they were doing and they were very careful not to disturb bird or squirrels' nests. I would recommend (and have) Austin Tree Experts to anybody that wants expert advice and expert work on their trees. This was the best experience I've ever had with with a service organization!
Description of Work: Keith, the arborist, toured my yard, identified every tree and recommended a strategy to preserve their health and growth. The crew was careful, thorough, on time, and cleaned the yard so well there was no evidence of the trimming. The crew worked two solid days, trimmed over 25 large trees, and cut two down.

Professional, knowledgeable estimate. Excellent, attentive service. This was actually a pretty big jump that required a 4 man crew 3 days to clear the trees. The crew leader was very good. The root aeration was handled by a younger man who was fairly knowledgeable, but a supervisor and the owner made numerous visits to the work site to insure that things were being done well. The aeration took 2-3 days and needed to be redone as the walls of the aeration were too steep. This work was actually recommended and assured when the owner made one of his visits to the work site to inspect the work. When all of the work was done, the yard was clear, the trees looked great and if it wasn't for the missing dead trees and the clean look of the trees in my backyard you wouldn't have known any work had bee performed!!
Description of Work: 20+ full grown trees that desparately needed pruning. Root aeration Cut down of 3 dead, full grown trees. Removal of all debris.

Micah, the arborist, evaluated my trees and gave me an estimate for the work we discussed. He answered all my questions, even those unrelated to the work at hand. Although the crew did not arrive on the appointment date, I received a phone call and explanation prior to their scheduled arrival time. The crew arrived on time on the rescheduled date. They were courteous and skilled. Afterwards, the crew removed the "trimmings" and the dead branches that had fallen prior to their arrival. A few days afer the work was done, the office called to check my satisfaction level prior to submitting the final bill.

Austin Tree Experts arrived promptly as scheduled and trimmed the branches of several trees away from my 2nd story roof and chimney. They trimmed the trees exactly as I asked and immediately removed all the debris so that there was absolutely no trace of their having been there except for a substantially clearer roofline. I will definitely seek their services in the future.

Overall they did a very good job. The three guys who actually did the work were somewhat sullen and cheerless, but I hired them to get the tree work done and they did that with efficiency and without damaging buildings with falling limbs. They also cut up some of the tree as fireplace logs as I requested and stacked them neatly.
Description of Work: They took down a huge pecan tree and pruned some other trees. Job was complicated by tight urban neighborhood and limbs overhanging buildings. A major plus was the fact that they loaded up the cut limbs and branches and took them away rather than the mess and noise of using a chipper on site.

We were very pleased with the work that was done. We couldn't believe that the price for trimming 8 trees was at 1/5th of the cost that neighbors spent on just ONE tree with another company!! I was also impressed at how quickly they cleaned up all of the refuse!! My neighbor on the other side is now planning to call them out for service!
Description of Work: Austin Tree Experts first sent out an arborist to evaluate our yard. He came out promptly and on time and we discussed what he saw that we needed and what we were specifically looking for. The next day, I had the proposal and was called to set up the date for service. They came and pruned/trimmed all of our trees.

On the day of service, the pruning crew arrived promptly. They rang the doorbell to let me know they had arrived and would be starting. They immediately set to work, climbing the trees, pruning the branches, and carrying them out. All the cuts are clean. All the pruned wood was hauled away. The three trees looked refreshed and clean and healthy. I am just thrilled with the quality of their work! I recommend Austin Tree Experts to all my friends, and will definitely call them again!
Description of Work: I live on a sloped lot that backs up to a heavily wooded greenbelt. I love my trees and when it was time to prune them, I wanted someone who would do the best job and keep my trees healthy. I chose Austin Tree Experts after reading reviews on Angie's List. I also liked that they are arborists. Micah came to my house to look over the different issues. In all, we looked at about a dozen trees. We came up with a short term and long term plan for the overall site. In the end, we selected three trees that needed immediate attention. An aging Bradford Pear that was threatening the awning over my deck, a wild Walnut that needed cleanup, and a rogue Chinaberry that was crowding out a live oak.

INITIAL VISIT FOR ESTIMATE: The main focus was planning for tree trimming and basic clean-up of large cedar elms. He also inspected a hollow trunk and suspicious damaged locations that had concerned me. Micah pointed out some concealed evidence of a healed but weak "trunk split" on one elm that could spell trouble in the long term and I would never have noticed it. And even though it was very late afternoon and Micah had another estimate to do, he answered all of my questions about individual trees and long-term shade strategy and maintenance. He surely must have been tired after a long day doing estimates but he showed no sense of haste or trying to rush to his next job. I really needed the expertise and on-site inspection of a tree expert and that is what I got. I knew from my research that Austin Tree Experts has several of the very few CERTIFIED EXPERTS on trees in the city of Austin. (And even the lady who handled my phone calls and initial questions has a botany degree and knows what she is talking about.) Frankly, having a professional arborist who KNOWS local tree species and conditions and who could spend so much time and care inspecting my trees was in and of itself worth much of the eventual price. There are SO MANY "tree trimmers" out there who hardly know what they are doing -- and they know very little about tree diseases, disorders, pests, and up-to-date solutions. (I've found plenty of such amateur "tree people" all over the country where I have owned properties and it saddens me that the real professionals and experts have to bid against the low-ballers who can do a lot of damage to trees.) Indeed, I didn't bother getting any other estimates -- and that's atypical for me when hiring other kinds of services -- because no other company in Austin seemed to come close to their credentials and I wouldn't have felt right about using Austin Tree Experts' consulting services during a free estimate and not hiring them for the work itself. And nobody should complain about bad service in this town if you are not willing to PAY FOR THE TRUE PROFESSIONALS. One of the things that impressed me about the estimate process is that Micah didn't try to push any of the high-profit services that a lot of "tree experts" try to sell to every customer, such as multiple liquid fertilizer injections or unnecessary root aerations. In my case I thought that an autumn fertilizing might be beneficial but Micah told me that cedar elms of this age were better off left as is so as not to disturb the beneficial soil organisms that would already be well established in my better-than-average soil type. I always have a lot of respect for professionals who are willing to leave money on the table instead of recommending unnecessary work. So if you get an estimate from Micah and he tells you that your trees need fertilizer or special procedures, I would have trust in his recommendation that you genuinely need that type of work. MAIN JOB: I scheduled the tree trimming work for about two weeks later. The crew arrived promptly on time and it took them about five hours. Those three guys worked hard and worked continuously. When they first arrived I asked them if I needed to move all of my flower pots and planters and the main supervisor said, "Oh, no. We will take care of everything for you and make sure that your property is protected." And they truly did. That surprised me because I expected to be told that for liability purposes they couldn't touch any of my property. They did all of that moving-around work for me. They placed everything vulnerable on my porch where it wouldn't get hit by any falling limbs. It was clear that all of the crewmen were experienced and used minimal effort in using their ropes and saws to work through the entire grove of trees. I didn't see any of the clumsiness of tree crews who scuff and damage bark and live branches by mistakes and missteps. I didn't hear any of the snaps, cracks, and wrenching sounds of limbs being forced to the ground. These were clean, well-executed cuts by professionals. My trees were in the process of budding into their second week of leafing out and I didn't want to see a lot of lost new growth this season because of rough treatment. But they were efficient climbers and rapellers and I've seen bigger crews take an entire day to do what took them just five hours. In my experience, crews who work in a fast, smooth, and efficient manner tend to know what they are doing. SUMMARY: They did excellent work at a very reasonable price and as far as I'm concerned I got an hour's worth of valuable consultation by a professional arborist at no extra cost. They hauled away all of the brush and debris and my lawns were very clean when they left. (And although I wouldn't have objected to on-site chipping/shredding of the felled branches, it was nice that they didn't make a lot of noise by running a grinder/chipper while my night-shift wife was sleeping.) I have little doubt that you could easily find somebody who would do your tree trimming work for a lower bid -- but considering how important shade trees are to a home's energy efficiency and the assessed value of my property, I consider tree services an INVESTMENT rather than an expense. I was relieved to find that the damaged areas and potential disease symptoms on my trees were more minor than I thought. But now I know and I couldn't have had that confidence with untrained tree trimmers who no know nothing of the science involved. I hope Austin residents will keep a company like Austin Tree Experts in business so that I can know that they will still be around the next time I need them. Austin doesn't have many certified arborists so it is essential that we keep such professionals busy.
Description of Work: SITE INSPECTION AND ESTIMATE: Spent a full hour evaluating all trees on the property and answering my LONG list of questions. I was concerned about the remaining life of my trees and some of the signs of damage and potential disease. TREE TRIMMING DAY: Spent about five hours doing a complete clean-up of the very tall cedar elm trees on my property. They carefully moved to safe locations all of my potted plants/planters. Their final clean-up of the brush and debris on the ground left my front and back lawns cleaner than when they began.

Overall, I was very satisfied with the service I received from the Austin Tree Expert Crew. The arborist, Micah, came out and talked to me about the types of trees I had and gave me his professional opinion on how they should be trimmed - They basically just needed to be thinned out from the years of growth - The crew did a great job and the job performed is exactly what I envisioned. I wouldn't hesitate using or recommending Austin Tree Experts in the future.

I had an appointment with Micah from Austin Tree Service. He called ahead of time to let me know he was on his way, and then he was exactly on time. Micah evaluated my tree and ultimately recommended that I do nothing for now. While he was at my house, he went ahead and looked at my other trees and gave me information on all of them. He was clearly very knowledgeable and offered me advice on caring for my trees. I was impressed that he did not try to sell me a service that I didn't need, although I was worried about wasting his time. All in all, I was impressed with Micah's knowledge and professionalism, and I will definitely call him again when I need tree work done.

I received a prompt response to my phone call. Micah arrived on time and not only gave me advice on the tree to be worked on but also on other trees in my yard. He couldn't have been nicer and was very well informed. The men who did the work were also very nice and eveyone was eager to please and make sure I was satisfied with the work. I had to be gone the day they came, so was not on hand to make comments. I found that removing one limb from the elm was not enough to make more room for the oak in my opinion. They called after the work was done and asked if I were satisfied, so I told them that I thought it would be good to remove another large limb. I fully expected to be charged more but they said they would do it for no additional cost. They were back the next day at 5, so I know they must have worked me in after their scheduled day's work. I was impressed. I have lived in Austin for 40 years and have had any number of arborists work in my yard and have never had any as pleasant and well informed and dedicated to making sure I had a good experience as Austin Tree Experts.
Description of Work: A large limb broke off a big red oak tree and left a jagged edge. This was cut smooth and also, dead branches were trimmed. A large limb was removed from a large cedar elm to make room and sun for another red oak.

The reason this report is so late in being submitted is due to a very bad year, healthwise. We're finally catching up on important things. Did a very professional job. Couldn't believe how much better all of the trees looked - especially the large oak in front. And they hauled away a huge stuffed-full dumpster of debris. The only problem at all was that some of the small sucker branches didn't get sprayed well enough and they have grown back.

It was time to trim our oak trees so we called Austin Tree Expert. Keith Brown, the owner met me at our home and quickly gave me an estimate. I felt confident about him doing the work because he's one of the few Board Certified Master Arborists in Austin. He also set my mind at ease about how careful he would be in doing the job. For those of you new to central Texas, trimming oaks in these parts is serious business due to oak wilt, a disease that kills oaks. The cost is significant surround treating or removing dead trees. And, if the trees are trimmed improperly, the trees can be weakened and some think more inclined to get sick. Keith's crew lead by Luis, dressed every wound and made careful decisions about how to cut each tree. A week or so after the job was finished, Keith came back out to be sure I was a happy camper. I then asked him to trim a couple other branches and he did it for no extra charge. Class act. The office staff (Tara & Veronica) was also friendly and professional. Thanks Keith and staff!

I called two companies and both responded promptly and came out to do estimates. Austin Tree Experts was a lower estimate and they explained the process and that they used sterilized equipment, etc. He said that he would arrive with the team the morning of the service and explain what needed to be done to them. The estimate was emailed to me within minutes of the person leaving. They have a website for invoicing, checking on status of service, etc. The morning of the service about 4 people arrived at 8 am and just started working. I would have preferred that he had rung the bell or informed me that they were here to start working before they started, but maybe some would not prefer that. Anyway, they did exactly what they said they would do and cleared the site of branches and debris. The only thing was that one of the branches, not the biggest section, but one part of the branch about 2-3" in diameter I heard land on the roof of the house and when I went out they was merely dragging it off the edge of the roof. Not a major thing, but I was ensured that the branches would not land on the roof. Since it was taken off in the direction of the shingles I assume it did not damage the roof and it looks ok. They were done within a couple hours and I was pleased with the results. The cost was within $25.00 of the estimate given.

After having had a miserable experience with another company several years ago, it was a pleasure to have Austin Tree Experts do this work. The company's representative and estimator, Micah Burns, was friendly and impressed me with his knowledge of trees and recommendations on how to approach work on my trees. He spent considerable time answering all of my questions at the time of the estimate and came back the morning of the work to review the plan with me and the crew. I got estimates from two other companies, both of which were lower, but decided that I was more comfortable with the knowledge and professionalism shown by Micah and the plan he suggested. It took the crew of three men about 4.5 hours to do the work. After they left, the trees looked great and the yard area was clear of debris. Added bonuses to using this company are their website and ease of communication and making payment via the internet.
Description of Work: Pruned live oaks to remove deadwood, stubs, broken branches. Repaired any previous improper cuts. Removed 80-90 % of ball moss. Raised low limbs and cleared limbs 4-6 ft. from house and roof. Separated live oak and Bradford Pear tree 2-3 ft. Cleared pear tree 4-6 ft. from roof and neighbor's roof and raised limbs over yard and driveway. Pruned deadwood from cedar tree and cleared limbs 4-6 ft. from house. Please see also above. Mr. Burns and others with whom we were in contact at times from his company were always courteous and professional. Much of the coordination was able to be doen easily through their web site. The first time the injection treatment had been scheduled, Mr. Burns was late. But there were storms in the area, and I knew these might affect whether the work could be done that day. I called and recieved a prompt response indicating they would need to reschedule due to the rainy conditions. The work was done right on time the following week. Mr. Burns in each case (3 visits to our place) was quite detailed in his explanations and answered all our questions. He or his crew did exactly what they said they would do and the work was thoroughly accomplished. When our younger live oak was removed, the crew even cut the trucnk down to the ground and painted the stump to prevent spread of infection. The cut end of the neighbor branch was also similarly treated. All wood and debris were removed, and the adjoining sidewalk was even swept clean afterward. Description of Work: 3 of our live oaks were dropping leaves. Oak wilt was known to be affecting a neighbor's live oak trees. Micah Burns, representing this certified arborist company, assessed our trees' health and indicated that one tree, about 40 years old was dying from oak wilt and needed to be removed. Our 2 largest live oaks (perhaps 100-150 years old), however, were just suffering from heat stress, he advised, but they were in danger from the nearby oak wilt infection. He suggested injecting them with an anti-fungal solution. This was done within about a week of our first contact with Austin Tree Experts, in latter July. Based on how quickly the trees took up the solution, he felt they were still reasonably healthy and stood a good chance of resisting the disease. He sent a small crew a little later based on our agreed upon to cut down and remove the dying tree. He came a little after the others to assure all was going as it should. The work was done with both efficiency and care for the safety of our house, which was close to the tree, and younger trees in the area, some of which we hope will now grow to take up some of the new space left by the removed tree. They also cut off a branch of a neighbor's dying tree that overhung two younger trees of ours, so the latter, including a healthy pecan, now have a good chance of growing bigger. Mr. Burns also advised us on several other trees. We have a number of red oaks. Apparently all are at risk from the disease, though none have shown symptoms as yet. There is not much that can be doen for them other than assuring they get plenty of water. He suggested a large maple that has now been showing severe symptoms, including heat stress, from the drought, etc. was not worth trying to save. He gave us reasonable estimates as well on removal of a couple trees that had been badly damaged by squirrels and storms, as well as for removal of branches that overhang our roof. We may have this work done later. He estimated the cost of removal of our 2 largest live oaks, in case they do not successfully resist the disease.

Wonderful. Their customer service is prompt and thoroughly efficient and the crew did a very good job. And the price was great too - their estimate came in a few hundred dollars less than some other folks I contacted.
Description of Work: Four large live oak trees needed to be pruned. Austin Tree Service did a great job - they removed dead and broken branches, trimmed and pruned where needed, and then cleared away all the brush.
