In 2008 I'd researched windows to death for over 4 months and then got seven bids from different contractors with various window brands. Could've saved myself a ton of time by just going with John Nelson and Austin Retrofit, and am d*** glad I found them in the process. These guys stand behind their work and their products, PERIOD. Our windows were installed in a day, the crew, lead by John Nelson, Jr., was courteous, professional, personable, and knew what they were doing. They cleaned up well after finishing, too. Our new Simonton windows are remarkable. Not only are they incredibly energy effecient compared to our old windows, they block outside sound better and look great, too. Customer service is what it's all about, so let's fast forward 2 1/2 years to last month - late February 2011: We noticed the inside pane on one of our front windows had somehow developed an 8" diagonal crack coming off the lower corner of a sash. I'd also noticed some areas of exterior caulking that had separated, and had noticed some minor cold air infiltration thru the window frames on the really windy days this winter in these areas of caulk separation. So, decided to call Austin Retrofit to see what they'd suggest, and talked to Cody. Before I could even finish describing the cracked pane and separated caulk, Cody said they would be re-ordering an entire new insulated sash unit from the factory (versus just replacing the pane and thus losing the argon gas inside) and would be coming by to recaulk all 15 of our windows with a new super silicone caulk they are now using once the new sash was in. Cody advised me that they'd discovered that they had received a faulty shipment of caulk back during the period our windows were installed and had been recaulking all houses they could track back to that period. Although there was no way of knowing for certain if the bad batch of caulk was used to seal our windows, Cody wanted to recaulk our windows just to make sure. In fact, he kept thanking me for calling so they could make sure our windows were caulked right. Wow. I was genuinely impressed. Thirty minutes after talking with Cody, John Nelson (the owner) called me to reiterate and confirm what Cody had just told me, and that someone would be out within the next few days to verify the measurements on the sash to be replaced. Wow. Impressed again! A couple days later, they stopped by and got the sash measurements. Both John Nelson and Cody made follow up calls over the next couple weeks to update me on the status of the replacement sash order they'd placed. Cody then called on Saturday 3/19/11, the sash was in, and we scheduled for that Monday afternoon. John Nelson, the owner, came himself with a crew of two guys, installed the new sash, and recaulked all the windows. Because of the great experience when the windows were first installed, I have recommended them to anyone considering replacement windows. Because of this exceptional follow-up customer service I just experienced with Austin Retrofit, I will continue to recommend them most highly to anyone considering replacement windows.

They were amazing and courteous. They were punctual and went beyond their call of duty. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

This company gave me faith again in contractors that do what they say and even beyond. They were respectful of me and my home. They were on time, careful and knew what they were doing. They even went beyond what they said and repaired the terrible work of another contractor who had installed windows for me previously. They not only installed the new windows, chalked and re-trimmed them, they disposed of the old windows and cleaned the areas of work as well. At the end there were no surprises and no price hikes. I can't say enough good things about this company and its people. I highly recommend this company.

The workers arrived on schedule along with their supervisor. All the work was done in a very timely and efficient manner, and the job was finished around 1:30 p.m. We were very happy with everything that was done. The cleanup was amazing - nothing was left that we needed to take care of. A later phone call and checkup was performed. We have nothing but good things to say about this company and would recommend them to anyone needing to change their old windows for new ones. Their bid was the same as the final bill!

Beautiful and professional service- fast, responsive, thoroughly cleaned up prior and after work, accommodating around me and my dogs.

They gave an estimate differently than the other two places we considered, so it was hard to compare the quotes. They were probably a bit higher than average, from a price standpoint. Everything was pretty good. We thought that they were pretty knowledgeable when they were talking about various windows we could put in. They didn't end up giving us a really detailed quote. Overall, though, it was a fairly positive interaction.

We contacted Austin Retrofit about installing windows in our two-story home. John Nelson, owner, showed us all the windows he had, but we were interested in the PGT brand of windows that we had researched on the Internet, and we had actually seen them at the Austin Home & Garden Show. He was more than willing to check on a price and get them ordered for us. His crew came to install the windows, and it only took two days to install all 23 windows. You just wouldn't believe what a wonderful job they did. The windows look like they have always been there. His crew did a wonderful job with the installation and cleanup. It was amazing to watch them work. We didn't even have to repaint the window sills when they were finished. There were 2 or 3 small scratches on a couple of the window sills, but I'm not even sure they weren't already there. I had a warped window seat, and they even replaced that for me. The windows are absolutely beautiful! Our electric bill has gone down considerably, and there are no more drafts coming in the windows. We had one screen that had been damaged in shipment. They contacted the company and replaced that screen in just a few days. We had a great experience working with John and his crew. Whether we contacted them by phone or email, they always answered our calls and inquiries promptly. Our experience with Austin Retrofit just couldn't have been any better.

I liked the product that they sold. I was particularly interested in that type of window. They use their own crew, instead of people they hire off the streets. They weren't very responsive. It took several phone calls and e-mails, but I understand that they are busy. Every time that I called, I got a response. If I e-mailed I usually didn't get a response, becuase they were out and about.

They arrived when they said they would. Their small team was well organized. Only one window opening was removed at a time. After the window was installed, they picked up their mess. there was no problem with installation.

Superior customer service, quality products. Austin Retrofit was very honest during the bidding process. My windows were delivered and installed as promissed and they were very courteous and cleaned up all of the installation mess.

Never could get a quote to replace a damaged window.

Once again Austin Retrofit exceeded my expectations! From helping me choose the sliding doors (Cody is really a pro and helped me weigh the pros and cons of the different sliding doors to find the ones that fit all of my requirements. He even took time to help me decide on the finish of the handles!) to the final installation (John, Emilio and the boys are truly artisans). The crew opened up the dining room wall with 2 sliding glass doors. In order to do this, they had to remove one old sliding door and then open up the wall next to it to add another sliding door. This was no easy task as my house had termite damage from the past and other things that they had to work around. John arrived before the crew to talk with me about the job. He asked me questions and went over details with me to make sure we were on the same page. Talking with him made me feel completely comfortable about how the job would proceed. The crew arrived with supplies and immediately got to work. The entire job took a little less than 5 hours! These guys all work together and no one is ever sitting still. They work together like a finely tuned machine and keep the job site clean throughout the entire duration of the job. This job wasn't just a simple install. It required the guys to come up with attractive solutions because they were adding a door where there wasn't one before. I didn't know how this part of the job would turn out but I knew I could trust them to find a solution and they did. The doors look as if they have always been there, not like some add on. My house is becoming more beautiful than what I dreamed with the help of Cody, John, Emilio, and the boys. All of the people that I have had the pleasure of meeting at Austin Retrofit have been lovely. They care and it shows. They are not your run of the mill construction guys. They are artists who really do leave a place more beautiful than before.

We researched the replacement window situation in Austin quite extensively. We ended up getting five bids. We settled on Austin Retrofit for the following reasons: 1. Cody (who gave us our estimate) was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Definitely knew his product, responded promptly to phone/email contacts, and was a pleasure to work with. 2. Their price was very competitive. Not the lowest, but it was very reasonable considering we were getting Simonton windows. 3. Local family business. John Sr. (owner) was very helpful and John Jr. was in charge of installation. This gave us a good level of comfort that they would be motivated to get it right. They seemed to be very experienced and had a long list of references. 4. Installation. We considered this just as important as the quality of the window. Their installation crew was "in-house" which was good. They came in and did a great job...cleaned up after themselves, very sensitive to our schedules, very professional, explained their work, went through the operation of the windows, showed up on time, handled a couple of trim issues, took down and put back up all drapes and blinds. They followed me around on the final walk-through with caulk guns to touch up any area that wasn't 100%. Bottom line: We had an excellent experience with Austin Retrofit...on-time, on-budget, and the new windows look great.

Cody and John came by and measured the window openings being replaced. They were professional and it was clear to me from the beginning that these guys were perfectionists. After the windows arrived at their warehouse, they called and we set up an appointment date that fit my busy schedule. It was pouring down rain on the day they were scheduled to install but they showed up with rain coats on and got to work. They were very clean (took their shoes off when they entered my house, put down drop clothes, etc.) and very efficient. They took out the old windows and put in the new ones without even disturbing the trim on the inside of the windows. They asked me questions when they weren't sure if I wanted trim to stay or go, and if I changed my mind it was no problem. Emilio and his crew were very respectful of me and my house. I really can't say enough good things about these guys and the company. I can be a bit of a perfectionist and Austin Retrofit lived up to my standards and more.

After some initial troubles with e-mail and phone communications the project went fairly smooth. Retrofit was very helpful in answering any questions we had about the differnt window options. JN was more personable than the majority of window salesmen that came to our house. He talked to us like we were old friends instead of the usual salesman tactics. As far as the windows and install......they did a wonderful job. We got a thumbs up from all the neighbors on the windows. They have transformed our house.

I thought they did a fine job and they were very easy to work with. They were very accommodating and answered all my questions as the project progressed. I would recommend them to anyone.

I was a real estate developer/remodeler/broker for 30 years. I'm very particular about all work done, and very sensitive to high pressure tactics and "overselling." I contacted two different companies, one highly recommended by a neighbor, and Austin Retrofit, pulled from the Yellow Pages. The other company, a very large outfit, sent a salesman out who put a hard sell on me for products I told him at the outset I did not want. He denigrated other companies, and other products. In contrast John showed up, listened carefully to my comments, presented the alternatives he deemed sensible based on my comments, and guided me to a product that was in every way equal to the larger company's. His bid was a fraction of the other company's. Because of the large price discrepancy, I called the window manufacturer (same maker for both bidders) and asked detailed questions regarding construction of the various window models. In every case the answers were what John had told me. In most cases the answers contradicted the larger company's comments about window quality, construction, etc. I then called the owner of the larger company to try to clarify the large discrepancies in product recommendation, description, and price, and got a long lecture about dealing with his company versus another, along with more high pressure sales talk. All that remained to decide was whether Austin Retrofit's references would recommend him. I had trouble getting off the phone with the three homeowners I called. They couldn't say enough nice things about the work done, the professionalism, etc. Everything they said was true. The crew showed up on time, went straight to work, and completed the job on time. When they left, it was as if they had never been in my house. I am completely satisfied with the work done.

We have used this company twice to replace the windows and doors in our house (different windows at different times not the same windows twice!) and they did a great job. We have a lot of windows in our house and they are mostly custom shapes and sizes. John worked with us to find exactly the windows that we wanted, ordered them, made sure that they were all the right sizes/shapes, picked them up when they were ready and installed them in one day including new trim on the inside and outside of the house. They removed all of the old windows and debris and cleaned up the house when they were finished.
