Austin Retrofit

After receiving the weather stripping material from the original door and window supplier, they came out and put it on. Several of the doors were hard to close but it was explained the weather stripping needed to be settled in - sounded reasonable. However within a month the stripping started coming loose. A quick telephone call to ask for someone to come out and reinstall brought assurances it would be repaired. Subsequent calls after many weeks and messages left wondering where they were have been unanswered.

First of all, I had them do full house window replacements about 4 years ago and was very happy with that. (See separate review from back then.) So I had no hesitation in contacting them again for this job. I've always had great responsiveness from them, whether during sale, installation or service after the fact. What I really like is that they don't just have a routine where they sell and install their products. They SOLVE PROBLEMS and that was important in my situation both times (the windows and this door). This installation was just completed and I can't predict the future, but I was very impressed with the attention to detail, especially in regards to my specific concerns in this door area. The job looks really solid. If anything arises in the future, based on my past experiences I have utmost confidence that they will deal with it. One final thought... I'm always impressed how well they clean up at the end of a job. Highly recommend.

We used Austin Retrofit to replace all the windows and doors in our house in 2013. They did such a fantastic job, we wanted to hire them again to replace all the windows in a new rental house. Cody and Brandon visited the house and spent about an hour taking window measurements and discussing our plans. Sadly, we never heard from them again. I have left voicemails on the office phone and personal cell phones, I have e-mailed the office through their website - but no response after almost 3 weeks. We have decided to hire another company, which will set our remodel plans back several weeks as we have to start the process all over again. In the meantime, the house sits stripped of siding awaiting windows. It has been very disappointing, as we were excited to work with them again. I can understand if they are too busy to work with us, but please let us know! (I am sure this review will receive a response quicker than my phone messages!)

The crew was on time and finished within a few days. Site was left clean each day. About a year later one the doors had a bad seal and they came out and took pictures and worked with vendor to get replacement. Maintained communication throughout.

They are good. They are pricey but their quality is excellent.

They did great work! We've had our windows for a year and a half now and it's been awesome! We went from aluminum single pane to Simonton double pane vinyl. They are very busy at the time, so they scheduled us about 8 weeks out, but you can't beat the price and quality. We had our siding done recently and the contractor was applauding the job Austin Retrofit did on our windows. Thanks guys!

Cody and John were very thorough and I was planning on using them to replace my windows, but when over two weeks went by just to get the quote to me, enough was enough. Cody was on vacation, no problem. I called and asked if John could send me the quote and he said he would get it to me. Another week goes by and still nothing. Finally I email them and say I'm moving on since I hadn't heard back from them. They reply, saying they are super busy and can get it to me the next day. Really? Not making me a priority after dropping the ball! That was the last straw. I know you're busy. Well, guess what, I am too and wasting my time by putting my interests on the back burner cost you a sale. If you are as busy as you say you are, hire more people. If not, you're business is going to do nothing but suffer if you keep treating customers this way.

The folks at Austin Retrofit were a pleasure to work with. They arrived on time for scheduled appointments. They were professional in all their interactions with me. They gave me the information I needed to make the best choices for my situation. i did not have a lot of windows so the job of replacing took less than a full day and they left the premises without any sign that they had been there. I would recommend them (and have to friends) without reservation!

Austin Retrofit was awesome! They did three small apartment complexes for us and I did not have one single complaint from a resident! Many residents commented their guys left the units cleaner than they were when they started. They have a streamlined operation that works like clockwork. The owner and crew manager came out to do the estimate and to view the job when completed.. They gave me excellent ideas/advice on types of windows to install, and were very responsive. My install was delayed 4 weeks due to overall schedule issues which was disappointing. However they did arrive on time on the rescheduled datec, and crew exceeded my expectations and nstalled all 18 windows in one day, staying late to complete the job. The house was cleaner than when they arrived, and the windows were installed impeccably - caulk etc very well done. I highly recommend this company.

The installation went fine but recently I started having problems with the windows and called Austin Retrofit to come out and have a look to see what was going on. I have called multiple times and left multiple messages. I've also emailed but I cannot get a response from the company. So, although I thought they were good guys when they installed my windows, it seems that they don't really care about the customer after the fact.

It went fine. The windows look fantastic.

Could not ask for more! John educated us on pros and cons of different types of doors and windows and costs. We were able to see a variety of doors and windows at their warehouse/showroom. We also were educated on installation. Installation was an EXCELLENT experience, my best contractor experience EVER! They showed up on time, explained what they were doing, protected my carpet and house, cleaned up as they went, painted trim, cleaned all the glass after installation, vacuumed, reinstalled blinds, finished slightly ahead of schedule. They even straightened a slightly crooked leaded glass panel in our front door---a door that ANOTHER contractor had installed. You need to plan ahead, we started the process in March, accepted Austin Retrofit's bid April 4, they needed a 6 week lead time, offered June 24 installation, which didn't work for our schedule, and finally installation on July 1. IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! I usually endure contractors in varying degrees of pain, so Austin Retrofit was a pleasant surprise and did a great job start to finish.

TERRIBLE!!!! Austin Retrofit never returned my calls to complete this repair. The window company, SHOWCASE, is sending me the 2 replacement rods that Austin Pro Siding will replace.. I accept responsibility for caring for my mom and having problems with scheduling for Austin Retrofit to repair my window. In May 2013, I apologized and asked for a time to fix my broken window agin and again. However, they refused to honor their word. I am pleased overall with the windows and installation Austin Retrofit did. Due to their lousy customer warranty service, I will never give them any business.

From start to finish everything went perfectly. Actually we had them replace 6 windows and one glass door panel last year. We were so impressed with the results that we had them back to replace the rest of our windows this year. These guys know windows! Our first contact was with Cody Marwitz. He came to our house, took preliminary measurements and talked about our options. He then had us come to their office to look at the various types of windows. Once we had made a decision Cody and John Nelson, Sr. came to take final measurements. When installation day arrived John Nelson, Jr. and the installation crew were here on time and gone within 3 hours. The second round was easier because we already knew what we wanted. Again Cody came and took preliminary measurements and had us a proposal within a few days. Again, John Sr. and Cody came out for the final measurements. Approximately 10 weeks later John Jr. and the installation crew showed up and in about 5 hours were completely finished. The good thing both times was that other than making our house look completely different you couldn't tell they had been here. They were very careful to protect both the interior and exterior of the house and left no mess. There was no hard sell and no promises about how much our utility bill would be reduced. This is a very caring family owned and operated business.

From the beginning, the experience was fantastic. Their bid was clear and easy to understand. They explained exactly what they would do to remove the old casement windows, how they would protect the interior from possible lead paint contamination, and what our best options for design would be. We chose laminated glass windows in the master bedroom to reduce outside noise. The installation and complete cleanup took only two days and the install team was amazing. With workers on the inside and outside, they moved from room to room leaving behind a completely clean room with shiny new windows. We had been concerned about subsequent carpentry and paint work but none was necessary. As they installed the new windows, we could sense the elimination of outside noise that we had been accustomed to. Because of our satisfactory experience with Austin Retrofit, we subsequently had them remove and replace a very large picture window in our living room which we are very pleased with. Austin Retrofit is a family owned company and John, John, and the staff worked incredibly long and hard to see that we were pleased with the results. I highly recommend this company for window replacement.

The windows are exactly what we wanted. The workers worked quickly; perhaps too quickly at times. Several of the windows were slightly damaged by the workers when they were screwing them into the walls, and some of the screws were put in slightly off kilter and never seated(?) correctly. Second, some of the windows were in stone and the mortar around those windows is beginning to disintegrate and pull away from the windows. We did not call to report because we will take care of it ourselves. It was just a little disheartening after spending a fairly large sum of money. All that said, we have so enjoyed the windows and feel that we got a good return for our investment overall. Plus, I must mention that we had a small tear in one of the screens and the company was quick to bring us a replacement. They gave us great advice on what color of windows would look best with our stone, and the casement window that Mr. Nelson showed us has been the greatest! We love it.

They just finished the job, and we could not be happier. Austin Retrofit exceeded our expectations in every way. The team is so professional, arrived on time, worked very efficiently, and got done in exactly the time they had predicted. The whole crew are clearly proud of the work they do, and it looks fantastic. We have undertaken several remodels in this home using other contractors, some didn't go well, some went just fine. But start to finish, this was by far the best experience we have ever had, and we highly recommend them! Painless, well priced, well done!

Our home is 25 years old and we had several windows that needed to be replaced. John Nelson, Sr. and Cody Marwitz came to my home, explained the process of replacing windows, took measurements, educated me on windows types, etc. Shortly thereafter it rained and we learned we had an issue with our siding that caused a water leak in the ceiling. We were able to secure a contractor who could replace the siding and also the windows, so we went with them. We have more windows that will need to be replaced in the future and based on the excellent experience we had with the estimate process, we will be calling Austin Retrofit to do the work.

My wife and I bought a house and we were renovating it. Getting into the project it became obvious that we needed to do something about the energy efficiency of the house. It had original aluminum windows from 1978, with some of them even broken and needing repair. We met Cody from Austin Retrofit at their office and he showed us the superior windows they had. We decided to move ahead and install new windows and he came out and did the necessary measurements. We were very fortunate and able to get onto the schedule sooner than we anticipated. On the appointed day Cody and the installation crew came out and installed our windows. They were very courteous and attentive to their work and also did a great job at cleanup. They listened to any concern I had and addressed it. There wasn't a lot of things that I had my attention on but when you're paying for stuff you know how you can want things just so. So the job turned out fantastic and when winter arrived and we were still working on finishing up the house, even though there were no curtains on the windows, the house retained heat very well! I am really impressed at what the new window technology can do. The older aluminum windows functioned like being connected to a refrigerator when it was cold and in the summer they didn't stop any A/C from going out, but conducted heat in! I absolutely recommend going with Austin Retrofit and want to thank John Nelson and his men for the superb window replacement we received.

Wonderfully!!! Could not have gone better. It started with Cody Marawitz measuring ALL windows and doors and show us options for replacement windows. An estimate was generated that included removal of all of the existing windows, installation of the new windows, finished carpentry for new interior wood casements and sills on all windows, and installation of a fantastic exterior door that included side vents. 6 weeks later, John Nelson (John Jr) and his crew showed up and in less than one day, tore out all of the windows, replaced them with windows that we could not be happier with, completed all of the new interior finished carpentry (casements and sills), installed the new exterior doors and left our home cleaner than they found it!!! They cooperated fully with the other contractors that were working on the master bath remodel and the painters and carpentry folks. They were polite, efficient and extremely organized. I have never seen such an organized crew. Each window must have been cleaned 5 times during installation. Several of the windows had unique operating systems, that were fully explained and demonstrated to us. A fixed transom window above our front entry door required a special flexible coving to match it to our window casements and Austin Retrofit handled it flawlessly. Their attention to detail is unsurpassed and results in a beautiful finished product. The product, the installation and customer service have all exceeded our wildest expectations. This is a GREAT family run business and I would never use anyone else for windows on my home.

This was by far was the biggest project I've done on my house so I took a lot of time and spent a lot of effort getting quotes. I actually emailed Austin Retrofit first but they were having email issues and we lost contract. I proceeded and got four other quotes. A few of the quotes were in my range but none of the contractors were standing out. I decided to try Austin Retrofit again. This time all worked out and Cody and John Sr. came over to see the windows so we could start the quoting process. When they left I was pretty sure these guys were going to be the ones to put in the windows. They were personable, professional and honestly I just had a gut feeling they would do a good job. Cody worked with me on doing a few different types of quotes. He also met me on a Saturday in their showroom so I could see the options, which really helped. Cody was super patient and answered all my questions. Once I decided they ordered the windows and got me on the schedule (which was pretty far out due to their work load). Window day came and they were here on time and went right to work. It was a big and professional crew lead by John Jr, who was great at communicating everything I needed. We were short one Window but Cody had already let me know the hows and whys so it wasn't an issue for me. They actually had asked to move the install date (which would work better for them and allow time for the window to come in) but my schedule wasn't flexible on it so they were awesome and kept the scheduled day. They were very respectful of my home, covering everything in plastic to protect it. They were done in one day as promised. Everything looked great and they even had one gentlemen clean up everything - I think he left my floors cleaner than they were when they arrived. The little extras were done too - like not only matching the color of the caulk to my siding but caulking where that asbestos siding cracked during installation (which is very common but most contractors I've dealt with didn't do that). During all of this I also decided to have them do my doors. We decided to do the window on the same day. They even recommended a good place to get the doors (Door Outlet - they were awesome as well). Once I had the doors they again got me on the schedule but it didn't take as long this time. Again they showed up on time, got all installed in the morning and left. I did have them come back to add some trim so my storm doors would mount properly, finish some trim and touch up a bit of caulk. When I noted that I needed these things done they were here Monday morning to fix everything up - not only did they do what I asked but went ahead and put on one of my storm doors for me - saving me a ton of time. Way beyond what they needed to do. The only reason one of the ratings is a B is because Cody is one overworked guy! He's amazing but there is only so much one guy can do. Some of the other reviewers have noted they didn't get call backs, etc. and I think a lot of this comes down to a few things 1) Cody needs help - he's amazing but not superhuman ;) 2) they are good so they are popular, with the demand they have it's hard to make everyone happy while continuing to do the same good job that got you all the work in the first place 3) they need a new email account as they have a lot of issues with it. Does any of this mean you shouldn't go with them? Heck no. But I think they few less than stellar reviews they hard are more for these reasons than anything and none of them had to do with how my windows and doors went in.

I contacted Cody and John Nelson during the summer last year about replacing all the windows in an older house that I just moved into. At the time I could only afford to pay for half, so last year they did 9 windows, including one specialty window that included a doggie door. This August they did 10 windows, including 2 that are about 15 feet off the ground. In both instances, John and Cody came over first to give an estimate and to discuss the best options for the specialty window and the high-up windows. When the crew came over, they replaced the windows quickly and efficiently, and cleaned up after themselves. They even put back the blinds I had taken off. On the second visit they cleaned all the windows near where they were working. They even fixed a patio door installed by someone else.I am very happy with all my windows and would recommend Austin Retrofit's services.
