Our experience was stress-free. Al had a young guy with him that he was training, and he was great with him -- it was a window into Al's character and his knowledge. It looks great, has a great seal. His job was flawless. It was a bit more expensive than quoted but I understand, given the nature of our house.
Description of Work: Al installed a front door, which also required replaced wood around the door and making it appear level, when in fact our 1935 house is slightly c***-eyed at the front door.

When I called, Al got back to me within a couple of hours to set up a walk-through to get an estimate of cost for the many repairs. He and his crew were at the house at the exact time they told me they would be and the work was excellent. I will recommend Al to anyone that needs a handyman or carpentry work done. Mike is an excellent carpenter and his work is impeccable. All of their work is very professional and worth every penny. Fast, friendly and efficient!
Description of Work: Drywall ceiling in the den, dining room and a bedroom. Replace and paint a bedroom door, fixed hinge on kitchen cabinet, tightened the kitchen sink faucet, put the bannister back up on stairway, built and painted bookshelves on either side of fireplace in living room with crown molding, installed ceiling fans in three bedrooms, hung large dresser mirror and installed lighting fixture above bathroom sink.

Did not use this company because I received a very good bid on the job prior to receiving Al's. I forgot to call Al back to tell him it would not be necessary for him to go out the next day to give me an estimate but I was very busy at work and I forgot. Al called me and curse at me while I was trying to apologize because I had truly forgotten. But no one deserves to be cursed at like that and that is totally unprofessional.
Description of Work: I called 3 different companies to receive estimates for work. One company responded quickly and emailed me a very reasonable estimate the same day. I told all 3 companies I needed the work done asap (rental property needed gete fixed immediately) Before I had received the first estimate, Al called and told me he could look at the property the next day. After that is when I received the first estimate. I accepted the estimate but forgot to call Al to cancel. He called while at the property because the work was already being done. I had forgotten to call him and I apologized over and over but he cursed me out and said, "how f......g stupid can you be?" I hung up. It was my mistake that I forgot to call him to cancel but the professionalism or lack there of was totally uncalled for.

Not at all correct, I went to house and someone was already working on the job, customer did not call me back and I called her and was upset, there was no apology from this lady who was not nice about this issue at all, and I did not cuss her out. Please be correct in your responses to what actually happened, I was upset and a bit rude I must admit, but I am the one who hung up due to the ladies actions And for those who are reading this, please read all the other reports on this business before making a decision, thanks

He was terrific - quick, amazingly strong, hard-working, efficient. I considered proposing marriage. The work was done very well, will serve me for years, I can find what I need when I need it.... all I could ask.
Description of Work: I had commercial-grade shelving to be assembled and 30+ boxes of materials to arrange on them. Within two hours of my call to ask about the company, a worker arrived. His quote was more than I could afford, but when I said so he asked how much I could pay, and accepted my bid.

He was running late, and he called to let me know he was going to be late. When we talked, he was very well spoken and polite, I was really impressed. We were so impressed with him that we didn't even get any other estimates. He was pretty good about explaining the work he was going to do. He didn't initially offer up how he was going to approach the work, but when I asked questions he gave me tons of details. He even told me that I would find people to do the work for cheaper than him, but there were reasons for that and he basically stood by the quality of his work and the fact that he is bonded and everything.
Description of Work: I hired Al The Handyman today to renovate a small powder room. He gave me the estimate today and he's going to start the work tomorrow. The work includes a new vanity, drywall repair, some new tile, and a couple of lighting fixtures in our house as well.

Al's guys did a beautiful job. They showed up on time and worked quickly to do the best work I've seen. The sanding in the floating process was a work of art. The garage walls came out satin smooth (no texture). I will absolutely hire Al to do all my handy-person stuff from here on out. I'm working on another list of stuff that needs work right now.

The 2 guys were very professional and nice to have working here. After the job was completed, I was satisfied because prior to their work, there was a lot of outside air coming in and the doors were very energy INefficient. I ended up having to have someone else re-do the work. Now the doors open and close much easier and there is absolutely NO air coming in from outside...whereas with Al's guys, there was like 5% air coming in. May not seem like much, but if you're going to seal doors and pay $850.00, better to have no air coming in. I would hire again because they did take care of 95% of the problem...it's just that I don't think they had quite the expertise they should have with weather proofing doors.

Al and his helper repaired the leak damage to my dining room ceiling so that you would never know there was problem. The texture matches perfectly. Repair to another area went just as well. They were responsive, courteous, and tidy. Late to the appointment due to car trouble but kept me informed of the situation so that's cool, too.

Based on the recommendations on Angie's List, and the proximity to my house, I called Al the Handyman for a quote on replacing the two toilets. He was able to give me a quote on the phone and I told him I would call him once I had bought the toilets. The toilets were to be delivered on a Monday, but I didn't know what time. Al said that if they arrived early enough they would be able to install them that day. They were able to make it out at 1:00 that afternoon. I was really pleased to have everything taken care of immediately. The person who came to my house called me a little before 1:00 to let me know he was running about 15 minutes late. This is so rare these days, I was happy to get the update. The work was done well, and he cleaned up after himself. Overall, I am pleased.

Word of advice - get an estimate before work. I should have done this but since we had a list of about 8 miscellaneous items I decided just to trust them. BIG mistake. We felt like they were never going to finish. They came on time and were professional and neat. Actually, too neat. They were here for 3 long days and I think the prep and clean-up were a little over the top since working by they hour. The Sheetrock took forever and then I realized we had the wrong paint and none of the paint matches looked the same. Extensive time spent getting whatever supplies needed for each job. One day gone for 3 hours. Whatever the helper did, the lead worker redid - again on my dime. Installed the mirror upside down/had to redo. Kitchen faucet leaked after they left so I had to call a plumber (why call them back... they blew it the first time). Threw loads of grout in the pool which needed to be cleaned out. Tapestry is hung poorly... how hard is that? Can't even handle simple handyman jobs without it being just OK. Very disgusted with the whole thing and out almost $3000.
Description of Work: Put up Sheetrock to cover small hole in ceiling and wall. Install mirror. Fix toilet. Replace kitchen faucet. Fix drawers in kitchen. Re-grout around pool. Glue light in foyer. Hang tapestry.

WE NEVER RECEIVED A COMPLAINT FROM THIS CUSTOMER OTHER THAN AN ANONYMOUS REPLY TO OUR SURVEY. IF WE HAD, WE WOULD HAVE FIXED THE LEAK AND DONE WHATEVER WE COULD HAVE TO MAKE HER HAPPY. WHEN WE READ THIS REPORT, WE IMMEDIATELY GOT IN CONTACT WITH THIS MEMBER TO SEE WHAT WE COULD DO TO MAKE THIS RIGHT. THIS MEMBER TOLD ME THAT THE PAINT ISSUE WAS BECAUSE THE PAINT THEY HAD WAS WRONG, NOT WHAT WE BOUGHT. TIME TO FIND MATERIALS DEPENDS ON LOCATION OF CUSTOMER AND PARTS, THIS MEMBER IS ALONG WAY AWAY FROM SUPPLY STORES AND THE REPLACEMENT ITEMS FOR HER DRAWERS WERE A SPECIALTY ITEMS AND HARD TO FIND. DURING THE TIME THE TECHS WERE GONE, THEY TOOK LUNCH AND THE MEMBER WAS NOT CHARGED FOR THIS TIME. THIS MEMBER WAS INFORMED OF OUR PRICES UP FRONT BEFORE WE BEGAN. IF SHE WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE WORK THEN WHY KEEP US THERE DOING SO MANY THINGS FOR THREE DAYS IF SHE WASN'T HAPPY WITH WHAT WE WERE DOING FOR HER?? WE DID DROP GROUT IN HER TUB WHICH WE CLEANED AT NO EXPENSE TO HER. WE ARE ONLY HUMAN AND WE DO MAKE MISTAKES, WE JUST ASK THAT WE BE GIVEN A FAIR OPPORTUNITY TO FIX IT. AFTER CONTACT WITH THIS MEMBER WE HAVE TAKEN CARE OF HER APPROPRIATELY AND APOLOGIZED FOR ANY MISUNDERSTANDINGS.

Went great. They arrived on time each day and worked late to finish on time. The door install went smoothly. The tile install was delayed slightly because of some extra work they had to do to support the cement board. We chose tile with color variations and the men carefully sorted it so they could put it up in a random pattern. They installed a beautiful shelf in each shower also. They protected the floor and furniture with tarps. They were always polite and considerate. They cleaned up after each day. Al kept me informed of everything they were doing or needed to do. They know their stuff and take pride in their work. And Al is a great guy. I trust him.
Description of Work: Al and his workers replaced the front door and replaced two bathtub surrounds from drywall and tile to cement board and tile. They worked as quickly as possible and the final results are beautiful. I'm very picky and most often choose to do repairs myself since I am rarely satisfied with the work of others. Al is different. He is as picky as I am.

Overall excellent experience. What he quoted us is what we paid. No "overages"! He even gave a good recommendation for a carpet cleaner which we used. His service was prompt and efficient. Also, after the work was done my wife noticed that part of the rug had come undone after the repair. We called Al and he immediately came out and retucked it and made sure it wasn't coming up again.
Description of Work: We had a pipe burst in our master bath. Water everywhere, tile/hardyback bubbled up, drywall damage where the plumber mashed through to get to the pipes. Also had carpet/carpet pad damage and paint damage to the master bedroom. 1/3 of the tile and corresponding hardybacker had to be replaced. Drywall patched and the whole room painted to match the paint. Subflooring was also bubbling up so that had to be screwed down. Carpet pad replaced and carpet retucked. Peripheral roof damage to the downstairs garage was kiltzed and repainted.

The rebuilt fence is beautiful! Now my husband thinks the old gate we had them reuse looks crappy next to the new section of fence and wants Al's guys to make a new gate. We're always building something around here, and I expect we'll end up having Al on permanent retainer before long. He does beautiful work for a fair price. Great guy and great crew!
Description of Work: They rebuilt the fence that we had to dismantle to accommodate the construction of a new garage. They installed four steel posts in concrete and put up new cedar fence pickets for a 3-foot section of fence. They also built a new corner and attachment point for a gate and rehung the old gate in the new location. All labor and materials were included in the cost of the project.
