This was the story of a woman and her missing septic tank. I moved into my HUD home last June and have been trying ever since to locate my septic tank. I started with trying to locate it myself with a horribly vague drawing by the installer. From there, I enlisted the help of a contractor who was here to do other work, a septic pumping company, a septic tank installer and friends. Not counting my own efforts, Chris of Aloha Septic was fifth in line for the job. He was scheduled to arrive at between 9:30 and 10, and final arrival was 10:40. While this wasn't exactly on-time, to his credit, he did call to let me know that he was running late, and I was fine with that. As long as I'm kept informed, there normally won't be a problem. After some tentative starts at logical places, he went under the house and started tracing the pipe from there. It took some time, but he was patient and a couple of hours later, he found the tank, dug it out, checked it out and gave advice on how to proceed with a tank whose history I had no way of knowing. Chris was terrific. He came all the way from Dripping Springs to my remote little area in the country east of Elgin. Anyone who lives out here knows how hard it can be to find someone, bad or good, to help with these kinds of issues, so I really appreciated his willingness to help, and as luck would have it, he was one of the "good" ones who stayed with it until he found it. Very knowledgeable, very professional, a pleasure to work with.

We purchased a home that was built in 1970 and the original/only owners had passed away. And we have never owned or lived with a septic system. When it came time to try and examine the septic system, we realized (after hours upon hours of searching & digging) that the tank was not located where it was drawn on the original blueprints. Chris took my call and quickly calmed my fears, by answering all my questions and explaining that they had never NOT be able to locate a tank. Chris and Darryl came out and pretty much, gave us the Septic 101class & were very patient will all my questions. But the real patience came when they had been hunting around, the forest like yard, in the boiling sun. Chris climed into a crawl space under the home to locate the pipe, even after I warned him that the inspectors had refused to go under the house, after they saw their 2nd snake. Darryl ended up digging half way to China, underneath the kids trampoline. And just when I thought I was going to be the first customer that they ever had to give up and quit.... Chris tried one more place & struck gold, or in this case... the tank lid. They tested the tank and measured the solids depth and determined that our vintage system was working very well. And didn't even need to be pumped out yet! Chris suggested that they treat the tank with some root killer and check it again in a year. They are very knowledgeable, patient, HONEST and just really neat people. I would highly recommend and will use again, Aloha Septic.
Description of Work: Mission impossible.... found a 42 yr old septic tank that was NOT anywhere near, where the homes original blueprints indicated.

I had several other people come out but nobody gave me a straight answer as to WHY this was happening. Only speculation and referrals. I called Chris at Aloha & begged him to come North, based on the reviews I saw here. Chris & Daryl dug & diagnosed and tested, and kept me informed throughout the whole process. Though I told Chris I was prepared for him to tell me we needed to replace our drain field, said we'd try everything else first. After a lot of hard work, testing & sweat, they were able to clear the line (black roots & dead snake bones !!) , The problem is fixed & I am so relieved - and I didn't have to spend unnecessary funds on a not-very-glamorous project.

I was referred to Aloha Septic through another vendor, so Chris, the owner, did not know me. Our septic pump had gone out the afternoon before, causing a plumbing overflow from a commode that almost ruined new wood floors that were being installed that day. We were effectively unable to use either of our two bathrooms, or any of our other plumbing, for fear of a reoccurence and destruction of the new floors which were finally completely installed. I called Chris around 8:45 yesterday morning and he kindly rearranged his schedule so that he could help us out. 45 minutes later he came over, dug out our septic pump and confirmed it was the problem; he left to go purchase a new pump and was back a couple of hours later with his employee, and they installed the new pump in about 30 minutes. He was courteous, professional, and basically came to our rescue as if we were old time, favorite clients, though he had just met us. The price was also fair. We highly recommend Chris and Aloha Septic for any septic-related repairs that they do. We definitely had an A++++++++++++ experience! Thank you, Chris! Vickie Karp Oak Hill/Austin

My brother was out of town and had aerobic septic issues at his home. I was asked to go to his house and stand by while the service was performed. The compressor seemed to be out of order. My brother had purchased his home the previous year and it came with a home owner's warranty which was due to expire. The company was responsible for sending someone to repair the system and originally sent a plumber (which is not the same as an aerobic septic technician. The plumber knew he was not the one needed and the company selected Aloha Septic to make the call. I met Chris (the owner of the company) at my brother's house right on time and he set about to diagnose the problem. Chris impressed me with his knowledge and explanation of how the system works and all the complexities involved. It turned out that the system had the wrong timer on it (apparently for over 10 years) and it had never worked with that system. In addition, the compressor (which is like a large fish tank bubbler) had given up the ghost and quit due to age, dirt, and rust inside. Chris replaced the timer and checked out the entire system before disassembling the compressor. He finally said that he could take it back to his shop and try to rebuild the unit or get a new one and come back to replace it. We called my brother, who was visiting friends out of state, and they talked and decided to go with the new one. It took over a week for the new unit to be installed, due to factor's beyond Aloha Septic's control, but all is good now and my brother was happy with the outcome. I would definitely use Aloha Septic for my aerobic needs but that is not possible. Aloha Septic offices are located in Dripping Springs and I am in Bulverde which is close to 50 miles and not worth their time to come to service my system.

The overall experience went well, took parts of a few days from start to finish, as we decided to have the entire septic electrical system replaced in addition to the septic pump and floats. Work was done professionally and systematically, and these guys were personable and communicated everything they were doing. We were especially pleased to get our septic system up and running a short time after Aloha guys arrived the first time for diagnosis. But we were also pleased to then have additional long-term renovations performed in a follow-up visit two days later. The story: The septic alarm went off on the middle of the night, and the next day we called Aloha septic (on recommendation) to come out and take a look at the septic pump tank. Christopher and assistant pulled the septic pump and confirmed that the old pump was seizing-up (as I could hear). New pump and one float installed and working within an hour. Two days later, they came back and installed additional pump float and completed replacement of entire electrical system and re-wiring of new alarm/junction box outdoors (where it should have been installed in the first place; we had an odd alarm installation in our house). The work wasn't inexpensive but it was all necessary, and I know from having replaced septic pump and apparatus a few times before that the cost was in line with expectations. The Aloha guys also coordinated septic system pumping (another company) at the same time -- work that was due to be done anyway and best done at the same time. Summary: All work that was done was work that needed to be done, and it was done well; in addition, the immediate work that needed to be done was done quickly. It was a pleasure to have a professional experience (which is not always the case in this part of the world) with nice guys doing the work.
Description of Work: Aloha Septic replaced septic pump and float switches, dug and re-wired power lines to septic pump tank from house and re-routed and installed outdoor septic alarm/junction box. Work took place over two days and required two workmen.

Chris and Darrell were pleasant, accomodating, and easy to work with. I don't know how many people had seen that diverter box. So-called professional people, including the other company who looked at it first. No one else looked at it close enough to see that it was impossible for water to flow out of that box and into the system. The only way out was for it to leach out through cracks in the cement. I appreciate that Chris was willing to think outside the box (no pun intended!) and really look for the problem. We would hire him again in a minute. Thanks, Chris and Darrell!
Description of Work: All the grass in the backyard had dried up and gone brown in the drought last year, but when we got so much rain in the winter things started greening up again. A rectangular area over one of the drain fields remained brown and dead and dry, so we were suspicious that there was trouble there. No trouble with the system - yet - but something was very wrong out there. We were due for a septic tank pumping, so we hired a company to do that. After the cleaning, the owner had a look at the brown patch, took a few measurements and decided that the drain field had failed - would not take water. He gave us a bid for the repairs, and we decided it would be a good idea to get another estimate or two. We called Chris at Aloha, and he came out the next day. He looked things over from the outside, then opened the diverter box. He flooded it with water to see how it would drain. It became clear as we looked at it that for some reason the two pipes going from the diverter box out into the fields were set so high (maybe from settling over the years?) that anything going into the box would go back into the septic tank before it would actually get as high as the pipes leading out into the fields. In short - the drain field probably had not failed. It wasn't that it couldn't take water, but that with the current configuration of the diverter pipes, the water couldn't get out there. It's amazing we had not had any trouble with the tank. Chris suggested that the problem would be remedied by his cutting the pipes down lower than the pipe coming in from the tank itself, and then capping off one of the pipes with a plug he described. It seemed too simple to be believed, and we were more than a little nervous about having him disfigure our 30+year old system. He very patiently went over the process with me that afternoon, then came back again the following morning to show my husband before doing the work. When all were in agreement, he and his helper Darrell made their cuts, put the plug in and then flushed things to make sure it would work. The actual work took maybe an hour. It took him longer than that to convince us to let him do it! Within two months, just as Chris had predicted, the grass over that drain field greened up. The system has been working just fine, and we couldn't be happier.

The owner of this company is the one who came out. He's awesome! Despite what he does for a living, he's quite chipper and personable. He came out to see why our light was on for the septic monitoring system. He figured it out almost without even having to open anything up. He has a lot of experience so has seen everything I suppose. He found out that our pump had gone out and he replaced it. While doing all of that he loved on my dog Maggie and gave her doggie treats that he apparently carries around since he's out so much and everyone has a dog I guess. Nothing is ever cheap with regard to septic and he came out the very next day for us so the price was alright with us; we would have been thrilled if it were lower but I'm sure it was fair.

While mowing the back yard we discovered a big wet spot. The septic field had overloaded and only 10 % was still functioning. The septic tank had not been pumped in 15+ years. We were staring at a $15,000 potential field replacement. That is nota good feeling. I called Aloha. Chris explained his special recovery equipment and how he has recovered fields in the past. Pretty amazing pressure washer. I was able to see the gunk and junk being flushed from the lines. Stuff that your kids flushed that they shouldn't have flushed... Like candy wrappers. Not everything is biodegradable. The biggest problem was finding the field ends that were not exactly where the drawing said they should have been. It took about 6 hours to locate by digging the 10 ends. some of these end were really off the map. So that 6 hours of searching would never have to happen again,Chris also put in risers on the ends of the field to make any future maintenance very easy and cost effective. Because of their methods and improvements any future maintenance will be much less costly. Chris did an end to end check of the systems, fixed the problems effectively and efficiently. Other companies would have taken the opportunity to sell an new $750 pump. Chris checked and tested mine rather than add to the bill. Chris put better tank lids on my system so that the next pumping would very easy and less expensive. Fix the problem ......YES Fix the problem effectively ......YES Make future maintenance efficient.... YES Personable and easy to work with .... YES Trustworthy...........YES
Description of Work: Aloha performed a septic field recovery or septic field remediation, by pressure washing the drain field lines in place and preventing a complete field replacement and system re certification. They located the drain field ends and adjusted them to be in specification and set them up for any future maintenance. They corrected the problems left by the original installer. Then, Chris Osburn realigned sensors in the tank itself for better performance. They also checked the pump and verified it was OK. They replaced and improved the tank lids and access for future maintenance. They recovered all the work sites back to original condition as appropriate.
