The workers, who were Luis' sons, were pleasant, efficient, and very hard working and produced an excellent product. They kept me informed as to what was going on during the entire process and I decided on the size of the niche (12 x 19) as well as the tall bench, which I was pleased was made of solid concrete. I also wanted the old bullnose tiles to be removed and no door installed so that the shower would be a little larger. For this reason the shower floor was dropped a little and a wide threshold (about 6 1/2 inches wide and a couple inches tall) was built and tiled, which I really like. They worked very long hours, were always pleasant and cleaned up nicely when the job was complete. The tile work is excellent.
Description of Work: Master Tile Setter rebuilt our master bathroom shower. This involved removing all the old tile, shower floor and several termite-damaged studs. Our old and small shower had never had a shower pan, which was installed, as well as new walls, drain, tile, grout, shampoo niche and a fairly tall corner bench. The plumbing was performed by a licensed plumber with whom they scheduled the times to disconnect and reconnect the plumbing lines and fixtures. The price included sealing the shower but excludes cost of tile, grout, fixture and plumbing contractor.

Luis was prompt and accommodating. His suggestions in tile and grout selection provided the necessary advice for our perfect tile. One we procured the tile, he was immediately available for installation. Armando arrived daily at exactly the specified time and was kind a curious. We requested a few changes while the work was in progress and there was no additional cost. The job finished exactly to schedule and they left a spotless showroom floor. We are planning for them to update our shower next. This is a perfect example of how a company should be run. On time, on budget, high quality, no surprises.
Description of Work: Replaced the kitchen, eating area, pantry, and laundry room tile floor from ceramic tile to porcelain tile.

I had other quotes for the same work, and their price was pretty good in comparison. I wanted the level of the floor in the bathroom to remain the same as it was so that it would match the level of the wood floors in my home. He said he could not do that without removing not only the tile, but also the thick set which makes the job quite expensive. He offered an alternative to remove the tile only and install a membrane which would increase the height only a little - showing me with his fingers a space about half the height of a tile. For the difference in price, I said I could live with that. I had to wait two weeks for the install, and on installation day the installers were told me that they were not removing any tile, just tiling over the old tile. They were very polite and said they would have to consult their boss. They talked with the estimator who argued with me on the phone, who said the contract was for putting the tile over the old tile . When I mentioned specific part of our conversation he told me my memory was faulty. I asked them him how they could install tile over the old tile and not have the level raised significantly? He told me that I agreed to it being substantially higher. I only have one bathroom needing a new floor and remember our conversation very clearly - I am sure he sees dozens. I wanted the job done with the tile removed so that the height would be close to the hardwood floors. They could not do that at the price we established. I was unwilling to renegotiate with them on the spot, as I had already negotiated a price. I offered to pay for the tile they had purchased for the job, but the workers politely packed up and left. I am not sure if this was an effort to renegotiate after we had agreed on a price, or just a misunderstanding. I did not like the way he handled it if it was a misunderstanding. I am disappointed, because they seemed to know what they were doing and offered a good price. Plus I turned down other estimates and now must find another contractor and wait to have the floor done, puhing back my schedule for other work.
Description of Work: I had them come out and do an estimate to replace the tile in my bathroom.

Response from Master Tile Setter LLC
At the time of the estimate we explained both options to the customer the 2nd being to leave the tile and put membrane over it to fill the cracks and then install the new tile over the old. The first being to take up the old tile which would disinigrate much of the support underneath requiring mudwork which is more expensive. We are very sorry the customer did not understand the 2nd option even though that was what we had agreed to in our intial conversation and, the reason we included in the estimate charges for purchase and installation of the membrane which is only needed if the old tile was not to be removed because we were intstalling new tile over it. When we tried to explain all this again by phone to the customer on the day of install in order to work out a resolution to the situation he would not allow us opportunity to speak so that we could lay out the options clearly and allow for him to make a decision to resolve the situation to his satisfaction It is unfortunate there was a misunderstanding on the part of the customer and even more unfortunate that he would not give us the opportunity to explain the options and resolve the situaiton to in a professional manner. .

Luis came out at the scheduled time and quoted us for removal of existing tile and installation of new tile for our walk-in shower and the main master bathroom floor. Initally, we thought to regrout the existing floor, but Luis thoroughly investigated and recommended we replace due to instability of the previously installed poorly set and grouted tile floor. We contacted several other contractors and decided to go with Luis because he showed genuine interest in our process and had excellent communication skills. He helped us feel comfortable with the process of how the job would proceed and answered all of our questions. He was clear upfront that the quote did not include tile & grout. We chose to do all the demolition work ourselves with the exception of the shower pan. On the first day of the job, the assigned Master Tile Setter (MTS) contractor picked the tile from the store and he & Luis arrived on-time to start the job. First, the installer removed the existing shower pan and replaced damaged studs in the shower wall while ensuring that the shower door opening was plumb (and it wasn't before). Over the next four days he poured a new shower pan, hung new hardy board, installed the niche and tiled & grouted all surfaces. The installation expert asked many questions throughout the process to ensure our expectations were met. He confirmed our desire for the placement of items, specifically of the niche, but also the corner tile cuts and the decorative border. The only concern we had occurred at the end of day 3 when he shared that we also needed caulk in the same color as the grout before the next day if we wanted him to install it. We scrambled and found the caulk. It wasn't available in a store near us, but the installer agreed to pick it up at the store nearest him (where we had called and confirmed it was available). It wasn't expensive, but just would have liked to have ordered that with the tile & grout. Definately a tiny thing and one we were okay to overlook since they were so good on everything else. Overall, MTS was excellent - very punctual and professional. We were extremely impressed with the young man who installed our tile. Luis only came the first day, but he followed up by phone the next week after the job was complete to ensure our satisfaction in the job performed. When we later had the glass door installed, those contractors commented that "this is one of the best shower installations we have seen". No adjustments were needed to install that door due to the "perfect fit" from MTS. We have already recommended MTS to a few of our friends who are also looking for tilework to be done. We also look forward to our other bathroom remodel project and will keep them in mind.
Description of Work: In four days (9/25/12 - 9/28/12), Master Tile Setter tiled & grouted a 3' x 4' x 8' master shower with a 12" x 20" niche and a 90 sq ft master bathroom floor with porcelain tile.

The work performed by Master Tile Setter is the best.I called Luis and left a message for him for the estimate. He replied my message at the same day. To fit into my tight schedule, he asked me to measure the square footage of the backsplash and gave me the estimate by phone. The price is the best comparing to other quotes I got. The appointment was made in the same week I called. The worker arrived on time at the service day. He looked at the glass tile I bought and told me that the color did not blend with the counter top and suggested me to exchange it. He offered me to do the job the next day so that I can exchange the tile. I was so surprised. He must have been driven a long way to my house. The glass tile he installed for us looks so nice. The color matches with our counter top now. I would recommend this company to all my friends. I will call them for my two bathroom remodel work.

Fabulous job! The Bautistas were clean, professional and courteous. I had called 6 different tile companies. Luis Bautista's quote was the lowest so I was a bit wary of the quality. I needn't have worried. I received top quality tile (not the home depot stuff). They were able to section off the kitchen so that the dust from the tile removal did not filter into the whole house. They then carefully cleaned the floor to ensure the new tile would have a good seal and then installed the new tile. They worked hard every day and I was able to trust them in the house when I needed to leave on occasion. They answered all of my questions, even leaving their home number in case I had a question later. Tile looks fantastic. Plan to use them in the future with home improvement projects.

Our 4/3/2 home is 38 years old and the Master Bath only had a traditional tub/shower combination. We decided to convert the tub area to a walk-in shower as part of a full bathroom remodel. I've done quite a bit of remodeling work over the years (including some bathrooms) and I even thought about doing it myself for a while. However, given my perfectionist tendencies and our desire to get it done, I knew it would take far longer for me to try it than either my wife or I were willing to take. We got several estimates from several contractors, including a couple here on Angie's List. Based on the reviews I read here, my conversations with Luis, and the excellent estimate, we decided to have Master Tile Setters do the work. Luis and I talked about several aspects and he provided a lot of helpful ideas. We scheduled the start date for a Monday after we were to return from a family vacation. As it turned out I failed to order the plumbing hardware before leaving, so he graciously agreed to delay the start date a couple of days to let the valves and fixtures arrive. Luis and his assistant Armando arrived exactly as scheduled at 9am on Wednesday. They covered everything in the Bedroom with plastic, covered the floors with tarps and and began the tear-out. By the end of the first day, they had picked and staged the tile we had purchased the weekend before, finished the tear-out, modified the rafter above the old shower header to better hold the ceiling drywall cleat, rehung new Sheetrock over the shower, scheduled the valve installation for the next morning, and cleaned up. The next three days were just as full and busy but they somehow managed to finish up each day by about 5. Everything was completely done by EOD Saturday! They did an excellent job! I have had several horrible contractor nightmares over the years and this experience was the exact opposite. I spent a lot of time around Luis during that time and I would trust both Luis and Master Tile Setters with any job big or small. It was a blessing to work with him.
Description of Work: Converted the Master Bath tub area to a walk-in Shower. The tile work included the shower area, the bathroom floor, and the walk-in closet. Amount shown was just for the work done by Master Tile Setters.

I liked them. The owner came out and measured. He was great. He sent a guy that works for him to do the work. He did a good job but he was on the phone so much. I thought he was here a lot longer than he needed to be because he was just on the phone the whole time so he was working with one hand which is hard to do when you are setting ceramic tile. They charged by the job. The price was very fair and they did a really good job.

Master Tile Setter was great! The estimate was quick and easy, Luis answered all of my questions knowledgeably and gave a very reasonable estimate. I was able to contact him through email and texting, which was very convenient. We had already chosen our tile at Arizona Tile and he purchased it and picked it up prior to installation. The installers were very quick and did a great job. It was supposed to be a two day job and they completed the work in one day. I asked for advice on how to seal the grout and he even showed me what product to purchase and how to do it myself. I would definitely use them again. We love our new kitchen tile! Thank you!!!

They did a great job. The floors were done diagonal and the walls straight as we asked. He did an inset into the wall for shampoos etc. We also asked him to put a strip of mozaic, stone, glass combination for accent, which he did. He had to coordinate his work with a granite slab installer and a plumbing company. And he did this very smoothly. His work was clean, and perfect. In addition, his workers were polite, professional and very considerate of the cleanliness of our house.

My sunroom floor had been damaged my a water leak and I decided to have it replaced with a wood look tile. I called several companies and except for one they all came and gave me an estimate. Frankly, contractors scare me because I have had really bad experiences with some but Luis came and gave me an estimate and explained what would happen. I liked that what he specialized in was tile and he wasn't the cheapest nor the most expensive of them. He was prompt and professional and this was not a big job but he treated me great. They showed up when they said and got it done and I love it so much that I want them to do the same thing to my halls, den and kitchen.

Luis and his crew were the best! When Luis came for the estimate, he saw I was also working on my countertops. I couldn't afford to have him do that job, but he discussed it with me and pointed out a very important issue that would have ruined my installation had he not advised me how to fix it. He didn't have to do that and he was very helpful, not condescending as many contractors have been about some of my DIY projects. He has the heart of a teacher and knows his business! The floor installation was the best it could have been. The guys were great, professional, and 6 months later, I know my floor will be great for decades! Hire them! I know they will always be my tile guys, no one else could live up to the standards they set.
