Joe Hall came out and re-roofed the house in August. I paid for a new roof and new vent hardware. I had an inspection performed to verify the work (given the roofing industry's reputation). I discovered that Joe Hall took shortcuts and did not replace all of the vents. The rest of the report said the roof was OK. I also had problems getting my gutters properly configured after the roof replacement. I withheld 10% until it was fixed and ran into problems working with Joe Hall. It took 2 1/2 months to resolve. I understand the vents to be a very inexpensive part, so beware of a company that cuts corners on the cheap stuff. I spoke to a Mr. Hall at the company and he convinced me that they stand behind their warrantee. Caveot Empor.

Response from Joe Hall Roofing Inc
First, we do not cut corners to save money. We have been in business for 30 years and would not have survived that long cutting corners intentionally. Regarding the vent, the material order was one vent short and when the crew installed the vents they left the one old one since they did not have a new one to install. Once we were aware of the situation we sent someone out to install the new one. Regarding the gutters, gutters were not part of the scope of work. There were communication issues but once we figured out what the problem was our sales manager came out and sealed an area that was causing a bit of dripping over door. We are sorry [member name removed] was not happy with our services but for him to paint us with such a broad brush is offensive.

Joe Hall roofing has proved to me beyond any doubt that they are honest and will not try to take advantage of you just to earn a buck. If you ask for their opinion on any roofing issue you?ll get a straight forward, truthful bid even if it amounts to less than $200. I?m a REALTOR ® thus, over the years I?ve encountered multiple roofing scenarios. I?ve called Joe Hall, among others for a few second opinions. Halls seemed always to be less drastic than that of their competitors. Recent, HUGE example: I was bidding on an investment property in N Arl. last Sept. 2012. The seller provided me with 2 roofing bids for replacing the hail damaged roof. Both bids were over $11,000. I called Joe Hall for a 2nd opinion. Keep in mind; they knew we expected to buy a whole new roof. Turns out the roof only need about $300 worth of repairs. .. Wow. I?ve since used them to replace the roof on my mom?s house and to do some minor repairs on another property. The crew was quick, professional and left the site very clean. They now are officially my: go to roofing company. BTW: they have a showroom with all kinds of roofing if you actually want to see what you are purchasing first.

, A large work crew made fast work of replacing the roof. Since they started later than planned, it went into the next morning. The crew was amazing. They worked very efficiently to get the roof completed in a timely manner. Clean up was meticulous. The result was an awesome timberline roof that enhances the appearance of our home. The gutters were installed several days later. The 2 guys who came out to work on the gutters were very professional but friendly. They did an excellent job of removing the old gutters and replacing them with a beautiful new gutter and downspout system. They even added an extra downspout in an area where they said was not fully served with the previous system. They worked diligently and completed the job. They cleaned up and hauled away the old gutters.
Description of Work: Removed existing 3 tab shingles, installed asphalt felt underlayment, installed new timberline roof, replaced all existing vent boots with new lead vent flashings, Replaced HVAC tops, painted vent flashings to match new roof. Reset and sealed chimney flashings. Installed new metal in valleys, installed new low profile vents in pre-finished color to match new roof. Removed damaged gutter system and installed new seamless gutter and downspout system. Sealed all penetrations and cleaned up roof related debris outside house and magnetically rolled yard.

It went really well. The workers arrived promptly but they did have to wait a bit on the carpenter to do his part. They replaced the roof and the shingles, cleaned up the trash, and were gone in just a few hours.
Description of Work: They rebuilt and replaced my chimney that had rotted due to improper installation and sealing when the house was built. They also replaced the roof and shingles in a small area around the chimney.

Poorly, gentleman came out, checked out requested work. Told me this was a small job for his company. Told me a General Contractor he worked with would call the next day to come see what he needed to do. I heard from the General contractor a week and a half later by phone message stating he would be out that evening. Well, I had to work late, have no idea if he came out or not. Never heard another word.

NO WORK was done for this customer because an estimate was sent to her by email on 11/29/12 and we have had no response. The sub contractor DID come out and the repairs were detailed in the estimate. The "poorly" gentleman that came out is in his early 40s and hardly "poorly". To repeat, the member indicated that work was completed and that is NOT the case; NO work was done.

I had work done in two parts on my roof with this company. First was to repair the bathroom and other vent covers that were cracked, one of which was causing a leak into my spare room. The gentleman came out and assessed the roof taking pictures and showing me where the problems were. As I had feared a huge roof replacement was pending, this was a relief. While he was assessing the vents, I mentioned the chimney box was dry-rotted and did he have anyone to work on that. He did. They sent an estimate for each repair and even allowed me to provide some of the materials I had originally purchased to do the repair myself and gave a discount for that. Both teams that came out were professional, courteous and they cleaned up beautifully afterward. My only criticism is timing. It took awhile to get the initial estimate (one week), then when the guys came to do the vents they called - while on their way- to ask if it was a 'good time' to come. I did not get a call to schedule the second work until I called the company. They did apologize about the first timing issue and said they would look into it, and got the second crew on the line to get a time. (This was Friday.) They told me the crew would be there Monday - if it was a 'good time'. Fortunately both days did work out as good timing. I would definately call them again as the work was great and at reasonable cost.

The process and the workers were great!!!. They paid attention to detail and crafted a very good leak proof roof. They had to actually "heat" up the tar in the front of the house but did not get any on the yard. While the Tar was heating they did the repair work on the roof utilizing there time well. The technicians and group leader was very friendly and communicated information when I needed it. We think they are great problem solvers!!! and VERY Professional....Overall we were very pleased with the results and look forward to more relaxing time on the patio. We are also getting the patio part replaced and gutters as well. Will let you all know how that goes too!!!!
Description of Work: Joe Hall roofing repaired a previous Patio "add on" that another contractor had done in 2005. They evaulated the roof twice and found there were leaks and them removed the small tiles and found some rotted wood they replaced. Then they weatherized with hot tar- by mopping it on ( this is the "old fashioned" way but provides adhesion that is best for weatherization ( as opposed to the stcky stuff on the bottom of the roofing material. They also used bigger sheets of roofing material ( with color to match my house roof) so that they didn't have to put in so many nail holes into the wood ( part of the reason there was leaking over a period of time) The original contractor did not put up a very steep roof- or weather proof it -- and so we didn't have take the whole thing down and reangle the roof ( would be rather expensive) this is how they solved the problems we had and solved the potential problems of future leaking. This was a one day job.

Then this year the roof started leaking profusely but at first I didn't realize it. Sheetrock seams opened up but I thought it was from the extreme drought we had in 2011 which in Dallas causes foundation shifts. Then the sheetrock started falling in and the next rain water poured in. Called for a warranty visit, but was told by the tech that the workmanship warranty was only three years and it was 3 years plus a few month past. Paid $800 to fix what he (a Joe Hall employee) described as poor workmanship. I paid a brick mason to re-do the chimney flashing. Then this weekend two hard rains started the leaks all over again. This firm is primarily a commercial roofer. They shouldn't be allowed to do residential work. Follow Up As soon as Mr. Hall read my report he called and came out to inspect the work. He saw both the flashing failure and the damage in the house. He noted hail damage on the roof (subsequently I had my insurance company come out and they ruled no hail damage, or isolated damage below the threshold to repair, with no barrier penetrations). He criticized the flashing work (and rightly so, it could be the failure mode), but his flashing had failed as well. He agreed to take a call from the brick mason who had done the flashing repair and sort out what had been and should be done. After two attempts by Hall Roofing and one re-flashing I wanted the roof FIXED. The brick mason stood behind his work and wanted to make things right, and both the roofing and the flashing needed to be fixed. Without much notice a Hall crew showed up and completely re-did the roofing and flashing around the chimney. He called back and said there would be no charge and even declined to let the brick mason contribute to his costs. So far no rain no problem. Hall has recovered to the level of expextations I have for a service company by honoring the spirit rather than the letter of a warranty. The failure was in workmanship, Mr. Hall recognized that and made good on it. A key component of the outcomes of this affair is unfortunately prevalent in the service industries a homeowner in Dallas has to deal with today. A communications failure from customer to estimator to foreman to customer. In many cases the foremen are Hispanic and speak poor English. This was not the case with Hall but it was with the brick mason. In either case the customer (me) had written specifications and expectations, the foreman and his crew had their years of doing things their way to maximize productivity-most are paid by the unit so productivity is King. In three cases I did not get what I wanted and I take some responsibility for that. But also in all cases the estimator (or anyone) did not do a follow up quality inspection. They waited for failure. For example Mr. Hall said he had a lot of failures with drip edge seals due to the hot weather (2011 was a record year), yet he says he has been in business in Texas for 25 years and allowing me to infer he has never experienced hot weather, hot enough to destroy drip edge lap seals? I asked him if in 2011 he knew his customers would be having failures due to the hot weather why didn't he write a letter offering a $75 inspection to see how MY roof was holding up? Then I would have been aware of the failure mode and/or risk, he could have had more work, as I had to do anyway, but avoided the failure. Now it will cost me $5,000 to repair the interior of my house, a cost I would have paid to avoid (as I thought I was). When this fix holds I will be satisfied.
Description of Work: Had two sections of my residential flat roof redone starting in 2008. First was OK, impressed by superintendent on the job except they took a shortcut on flashing.. Second was botched several ways.

First thing we are 85% residential and 15% commercial so we know what we are doing in both areas as we have been in business for over 25 years! Regarding the roof in 2008 we did not take shortcuts on flashing; we don't take shortcuts. Regarding leaks in 2011, yes seams opened from the drought and warranty had expired. We went out and repaired with 15 hot patches and a few other things and he did not pay $800, he paid $650 as we gave him a $150 discount. He has not called us for this new leak so we do not know the problem. Did the brick mason do some damage? Is it the roof? Are the gutters clogged? Where is it leaking? We fixed his problems in February and during the wet seasons we have received no further communications from him. No calls, no emails so we have no idea what is leaking or why. This house was built in 1976 and could have shifted; who knows.

it went very well He was honest and told me the damage was due to poor workmanship and not storm/hail damage. But he said to keep monitoring the situation and especiallyhow things go when we do have another hail storm. I was pleased with the visit and will call him again when needed. Also my Insurance company recommended him ( along with two others) so that helped as well in selection.
Description of Work: they listened to what I had to say about the problem ( a leaking roof that is a Porch add on roof in 2005.and then proceeded to inspect the whole roof. They informedme the work done previous ( long time before I met them or joined Angies List) in 2005 was not the done correctly and that it is best touse a Roofer to do roofing ( I had used a general contractor Who I no longer commun ciate with from Lowes- he was not an emplyoyee of Lowes but was there looking for work). He told it was definitely leaking the tiles needed sealing and he did that and said that is just a temporay fix for a few months but I need to have a proper repair in the near future. He was very polite and informative. The visit was not that long. They sent an bill by email and I sent the cost back to them by my onlone banking.

My home's roof was replaced by Joe Hall Roofing on 5/11/12. It was the first time I had to arrange for this kind of work in 17 years so I was unsure of some aspects of the procedure. Jon Harrington was very professional, prompt, patient and helpful in showing me the options of roofing material and furnishing estimates. I decided to pay extra for Class IV shingles and the roof total cost including the insurance payment was $3400. I was amazed how quickly the crew replaced the roof and very pleased with the finished product. Jose Bojorquez was the crew supervisor and he also was very professional and willing to answer my questions. My lawn and driveway looked pristine after the crew's clean-up efforts and overall, having the roof replaced was a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend Joe Hall Roofing.

They were excellent. They came out and talked to us about the roof. They were very good. We really like them. They said that our roof didn’t have adequate damage for our insurance company to pay for our roof which made us feel really good. When the roofing appraiser came from the state farm they were happy to answer any questions. They seemed very fair and knowledgeable. We didn’t spend any money with them at all. If we need a new roof in the future we would definitely go with them. Our overall experience with them has been excellent.

I will never again do business with Joe Hall Roofing.
Description of Work: House needed a new roof prior to selling. Mr. Hall (Derek) provided reasonable estimate and work was performed in September 2011. In December 2011, exterminator determined that rodents had been in attic and discovered a gap in roof flashing as entrance point. It was also discovered that the attic insulation was contaminated and required removal. Estimate for rodent removal, temporary repair to block holes, and removal/replacement of attic insulation was approximately $4,500. In January, Mr. Hall was notified and inspected roof. He also requested that we send him copies of the repair invoices and estimate. On January 27, received very unprofessional, threatening, and insulting voice mail from Mr. Hall. He made no effort to accept any responsibility for the damages resulting from their work. Furthermore, claimed that this was "ridiculous", that "they would not pay", and we would "just see them in court".

This is an unfortunate incident. Somewhere along the line the exterminator has become the voice of absolution. Where did we get left out of the picture of what is proper roof work? We don’t try to determine what is proper exterminating work. Other trades are quick to “throw water” on others work. If the wall, or whatever the flashing is up against is crooked then sometimes there can be a slight gap in the eave or soffit vents. Rodents can bend flashing and whatever else is in their way. We have seen large rodents pull power vent covers off. We were informed that our quality of work was directly responsible for rodents entering their attic and presented a bill. The word of an exterminator is responsible for us paying damages? Maybe rodents have been in the attic before we were ever on the scene. I am sorry rodents got into their attic, but it is a VERY COMMON problem for homeowners and not a result of our quality of work. If rodents want in an attic they will usually get in no matter what the defense. If you only understood how many people have problems with rodents entering their attics…..we see it all the time. We don’t know what critters will do and we have no control for their behavior. I do want to apologize for the behavior of Derek Hall (there are 3 Mr. Halls here) and the unprofessional and threatening voice message; it was uncalled for. We do not feel we have responsibility for the dollars the customer chose to pay. We have never in our 25 years of experience been asked to pay for rodent damage. Kay Orr-Business Admin.

I had other roofers tell me my roof needed to be replaced after a windstorm. So I asked an independent inspector to check the roof, as well as my insurance company. Both told my roof only need very minor repairs, not related to the windstorm. I contacted Joe Hall Roofing to inspect the roof and they confirmed. I hired them to do any needed repairs and two workers arrived on time and did the work professionally and a fair price. BTW, this roof was installed by Joe Hall Roofing about 15 years ago and has been trouble free.

We went to the showroom in Arlington to look at roofing products and my husband was impressed with the founder, Joe Hall, who talked to us. His son, Derek, came to our house for the final estimate at a later date. There was a little pressure to sign the contract before 'the prices went up' as stated by Derek. We signed up for their service and expressed at that time our concern for the new gutters on the house - we did not want those damaged. Derek assured us they would not be. At the time of the install we again expressed our concern about the gutters to the foreman and were given assurance that their ladders would not be on the gutters. A few hours later I went outside and the workmen had their ladders against the gutters. I asked the workmen to remove the ladder, but I do not speak Spanish so I also called the foreman for assistance. Their solution was to put a package of roofing tiles on the roof, extending out over the gutters then putting the ladders on it. This was too little too late as the gutters were already scratched all along the south side of the house. I was told my the foreman that their gutter guy would call us within 2-3 days to repair the gutters. No call. We called the company and talked to Derek and again were told the gutter guy would call us for repair. No call, no repair. The roofing job looks good, it was expensive (they looked at our insurance quote and charged us what was on their estimate), but the gutter damage and lack of repair were very disappointing. They did show up on time and clean up the yard very well, and also replaced damaged decking.

Am very sorry for you disappointment. The workman are not suppose to put the ladders against gutters but sometimes they do not always do what they are suppose to do. They are suppose to use what is called stand offs to keep the ladders from damaging the gutters. At the time you signed your contract, prices were escalating fast. Hope all is well now.

We were in need of a new roof after the April 2011 storms Joe Hall Roofing was one of 3 Angie's list companies we called for quotes. Brett Hall came to look at our roof and provide an estimate. After looking at the work that needed to be performed he asked to see the insurance adjustment estimate. He pointed out that the adjustor had missed several critical items and had madea couple of clerical mistakes. Brett then offered to have a direct conversation with the insurance adjustor. That conversation resulted in an additional $4000.00, thanks Brett! Since we were also replacing our siding Brett ensured that his team came out and flashed when the siding was going up to make sure there was a strong seal. When it came to replace the roof, Joe Hall installation team came out and completed the installation professionally and cleaned up well when the job was done. I especially liked the fact that a supervisor came out several times to inspect the work in progress. Joe Hall's pricing was very competitive as well. This was the perfect buying experience, if you need a new roof call them!

There was some water damage from broken seals for plumbling vents on the roof. Nick came out and did an inspection, told me what the problem was and gave me an estimate. We agreed to have the work completed, they scheduled an appoinment, showed up on time, did the repairs. How simple is that!! It can get so comlicated working with home repair and construction companies; not Joe Hall roofing.
Description of Work: Inspected the roof for a source of the water damage in the bathroom and bedrooms ceiling. Repaired plumbling gasket seals on the roof.

They were excellent. It was most painless project that I've dealt with. They got here by 7:30 a.m. and by 1:30 p.m. they were waiting to be picked up. They cleaned up well - I think I've found 1 nail. They were prompt, on time, the supplies were delivered one day and they were here installing it the next day. The salesman, John Cameron, was very nice and punctual. He showed up right on the dot. The price stayed within the estimate. My wife and I couldn't believe that they were done so quickly. I got up on the roof to check it out and it is so straight, perfect and everything is painted to match the roof color. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Joe Hall Roofing replaced my whole roof.

I was scheduled to close on my house that Friday when storms hit with heavy hail. I was concerned about hail damage the roof of the house I was purchasing so I wanted to get it inspected before closing but do due the heacy damage throughout th are it was very difficult to find someone to inspect my roof before I closed. Joe Hall worked with me and managed to inspect the same day. I was able to submit the report to the sellor so that they could start a claim before closing. The provided great service and really assisted me in a bind when there was no promise that they work would go to them.
Description of Work: Needed a roof inspection for a house I was closing on in a couple of days after major hail storms hot the area.
