Ouch, quite the contrary, there couldn’t be more truth in advertising. I am the only company that has a published price guide. It is on my website and in all my advertising venues. Also I give the customer a hard copy of this priceguide the moment I arrive at the house, before any work is started. You called it a “sheet of extra charges” that I gave your husband after I arrived. This is my sheet of prices for all types of work I do, carpet restretching, carpet repair, post-foundation work and pad replacement. I have one sheet that addresses all the various aspects of my business and the relating charges. This is given to the customer upon my arrival, again, this means prior to any work being started, the customer has a detailed list of charges, therefore no suprises. Regarding the berber carpet. As per the web, the definition of berber carpet is a “style of carpet, distinguished by a loop pile construction .” Any carpet with loop pile, not cut pile, is berber. Your carpet clearly had loop pile . It had about a 1” square berber type then a ½ “line of regular carpet. Berber carpet is charged more since I have to cut the carpet twice. First the backing has to be cut, then the loops or else it will ravel. More time is involved, therefore it costs more. Regarding the room size. To calculate the square footage, you need to measure the room from the two furtherest points. One of your rooms included a sitting area. Again, on my priceguide, it clearly states a room is up to 200 square feet. My calculations was the living room to be a 20 x 20 room. This means it was 400 square feet. My charge is, $90 first room (keep in mind a room is up to 200 sq feet.). and $0.25 per foot over ( meaning the extra 200 square feet were charges at $0.25 per =$50.00). The price guide states berber is an additional $10 per room, this particular room was twice the 200 sq feet, so the berber charge was $20. Regarding your bedroom not being “large”, per the web “Estimation to the average size of a master bedroom would be 200 to 250 sq ft or if you want an idea of the dimensions 14×15, 15×15 or 15×16.“ My calculations for your bedroom was 300 square feet. Again, see previous description regarding room size and charges for up size rooms. Now, regarding the “upcharged for transitions”, and your comment of how these are ”STANDARD for any other vendor”, in all of my experience, I have never heard of a vendor not charging for transitions. I have, however heard of plenty charging for moving household furniture, this is something I do not charge for in restretching situations. (household furniture, not as per my price guide, office desk, file cabinet, exercise equipment..) I did not take ”EVERY opportunity to SQUEEZE this homeowner for every nickel and dime”, I did however come and restretch your berber carpet in your two oversized rooms, and charge accordingly—again per my published priceguide, the same one that was given to your husband upon my arrival. --here is the priceguide we give upon our arrival.
