The Floor Mender

Kevin contacted me immediately after I sent my inquiry and made an appointment for the next day due to a cancellation. He was done in the time frame he quoted and the work is excellent. I will use him in the future for any carpet repairs and or cleaning services we may need.

It went well and they did good work. They got job done in about 3 hours. They were nice, polite, and seemed knowledgeable.

The company was great, detailed and thoroughly explained what needed to be done.

The stretching was good but there was one place that needed to be patched and we were not happy with the patch job. Everything was good other than the patch job. They got the job done in about 3-4 hours. The workers were very respectful and very nice.

Very responsive, very courteous, the work was well done, very pleased. This is the second time I've used this service (at a previous residence they did some carpet stretching for me that was also well-done and has held up) and I will use them again.

First, the squeaking. The floor in one of the bedrooms still squeaks, the owner told me he couldn't get the squeak out in one bedroom without going into the closet of the other, which would have resulted in him charging me for another room so I didn't permit it. The squeak is better but still very noticeable. Second, the stretching seemed pretty routine and went fine, however, he charged me extra for my master closet because he said it was larger than expected. Make sure you know your measurements when you call because they won't come to you for the estimate. Third, the steam cleaning. This was another guy contracted by the owner. He seemed rushed and not thorough, he had to come back to redo the office and the area rug again. I pretreated them before he got here and the looked much better after the second cleaning, though he said he pretreated them before. The only reason I didn't make him redo the master was because the carpet is dark so it wasn't possible to prove that it was done poorly. With the original cleaning, I paid for scotch guarding which he did after the initial cleaning. However, after the second cleaning he didn't reguard those two areas so essentially paid for scotch guard that he sucked back up and didn't re apply. On top of that the owner said he would work a deal with me because the steamer had to return to re clean. I had three 2x4 rugs I wanted cleaned. He charged me $45 for those and essentially swiped his machine over them in about 30 seconds. I have had carpets cleaned many times before and this guy seemed to be able to do it in about a quarter of the time as 3 man teams have taken in the past ;which leads me to believe he rushed for whatever reason and wasn't at all thorough. He also tried to talk me into leaving my 8x10 rug on the hardwood to steam clean it. That's a no no. Finally, the charges were $300 more than I was quoted for all services, not including the $45 for the little rugs. The employee of the owner seemed annoyed by my baby gates and left trash and carpet remnants laying around. And somehow one of my bedroom phone handsets ended up covered in a nasty sticky substance that I had to scrub off. On top of that they put heavy furniture back in the wrong place and the employee saw me trying to position into the correct place and said nothing, didn't offer to help though it was his mistake. I liked the owner and he was a reasonable man. However stay away from the steamer and be mindful that the pricing schedule is difficult to interpret and they tend to push the prices up after they get there. For a real estimate add at least 25% to what he tells you. My overall grade is C mainly because of the Steamer issues, for repair and stretching I would give a B because I do think the owner did his best to fix my squeaks. amended: After a discussion with the owner about the incomplete scotch guard it was agreed by myself and the owner that he would refund my payment for the incomplete treatment after the re-steam. I would also note that the carpet cleaner and owner didn't consult me as to a time to complete the treatment. They simply TOLD me when they would be there to re scotchguard. as this was the second time they had expected me to drop everything,(the first being the rushed re-clean), I declined to deal with them anymore and an agreement was reached for a refund. It is also noted that the owner asked me what he could do to get me to change my review, then treated me poorly with rescheduling.

The burn hole was from a fireplace spark that went all the way to the middle of the room. When my niece and I saw it we thought it was a piece of dirt brought in by the dogs. When we looked back at it we realized it was getting bigger so we rushed over to it. We got the spark out & then I checked Angie's List for a company to repair the carpet. I called The Floor Mender, told them I had more of the carpet, and he was able to give me an approximate price. I told him to come over and make the repair. I wasn't home when he was here. When I got back I asked my other family members what they thought. They hadn't paid much attention. I went in & couldn't tell where the spark had been & where the repair had been made! I will definitely call them again if I need carpet repairs.

They arrived on time and went straight to work. The were professional and worked quickly. It has been over 6 months and the carpet has stayed in place and has not loosened. We are very happy with the work and the workers.

On the positive, they did remove all wrinkles in each room and did a good job cleaning up after. They will give you a price guide at start - read it CAREFULLY before agreeing to services. Then get a written quote for exact services they're going to do. I had expected 3 rooms and a hall for around $250. Move a pool table would add 45. With add-ons the actual bill was over $500. My fault for not getting a written estimate up front.

The repair was done quickly & looks great. The team was on time, called in advance (as they said they would) and overall I am very satisfied. It was a small job and they have a minimum amount they charge for a room so it was a bit high for a small space but that's pretty normal for this type of work, I believe. They didn't complain or turn me down because the job was too small and they were able to come out within just a couple days from my first call so very quick turnaround.

When I first contacted Kevin Benton, I asked if he could replace damaged carpet with some extra carpet that I had on hand. He quoted me a price based on that description of the job. When he arrived, it was determined that the extra carpet that I had was not enough to complete the job. Kevin and his assistant were able to still complete the job using the carpet I had provided with salvaged (usable) pieces from the damaged carpet that was removed. I did have to pay extra for the additional labor involved in this patchwork-type of project, but it was still cheaper than if I had purchased new carpeting for this space. The finished product looks beautiful! Thank you Kevin!

The Floor Menders arrived precisely on time and did an outstanding job removing wrinkles from the carpet in my master bedroom and hallway. They completed the job far sooner than I could possibly have expected and they were very friendly and professional. The price was very reasonable as well and I would definitely use their services again in the future.

Kevin returned my call promptly, and he was very courteous and professional. He immediately emailed a price list that was very thorough and provided all the details regarding pricing up front so that there were no surprises. He showed up a little late, but he called ahead of time to let me know that he was running behind schedule. Upon arrival, we discussed what needed to be done. He was great at answering my questions and addressing my concerns. He was very professional. We had 4 rooms where our dog had been accidentally closed in and tried to dig his way out. Three were repaired so well that you would never know anything ever happened. In the fourth room, I can see a slight seam, but I don't fault him for it because the carpet was berber (which is very difficult to repair), it was 8 years old, and the spare carpet had been stored in our attic the entire time. Even with a slight seam, it looks a whole lot better than before. He also replaced some worn carpet on our stairs, and it looks fantastic. In one room, he was able to remove the damaged section and stretch the remainder of the carpet instead of chopping out the damaged area and replacing it with spare carpet. This was good for two reasons: replacing old carpet with spare carpet can cause mismatched areas, and stretching was probably cheaper than replacing. The work was completed in a reasonable amount of time, and he took care to do it correctly. The only negative is that I would have liked better clean-up upon job completion. There were many carpet fibers and debris left behind, but the quality of work was most important to me. I'd definitely use him again.

I'm not a hundred percent pleased. They really didn't clean up after their work. They installed it well and they were gone leaving carpet fragments all over the floor. They were in a rush because they got here at the very end up of their window. It was good enough but I don't think that I would use them again.

He was a little late from the set appointment time. He was clean and professional in appearance. He did a good job in stretching the carpet and I was pleased with the overall outcome. My only suggestion is that you read the fine print. What was quoted as an $89.99 job ended up being $130 because of all the add ons, such as the carpet being berber carpet, and by the square foot of the room-not just price per room.

Kevin and his technician are great! Very prompt in coming out for the work, as well as courteous and friendly. The work was done quickly and looked fantastic afterwards. It is wonderful to watch real professionals work! They came right in, saw what needed to be done, and then did the job effectively and neatly. They vacuumed the area they worked on, leaving everything in much better shape than they found it. They charged the basic trip charge, not adding any unexpected charges to the bill. I definitely will use them again. We are very pleased.
