Crew arrived to prepare home for exterior painting. Taped brick areas, and coated window panes. I was not well informed as to the order in which sections of my home would be painted which caused painters to have to move patio plants and furniture. The workers were careless with surrounding landscaping and plants/furniture which were moved. Upon inspection of completed work, window pain clean up was poor. I asked they re-clean 2 sections of down stair windows. I noticed as painters were finishing that all doors had been painted while shut. Only after pointing this out did workers open doors and begin re-painting. They had to return to complete this work. However, this effort was less than acceptable as several of the doors when opened had old paint peel off. No effort was made to re-prep doors but were immediately painted (this included 2 back doors, and 3 sets of french doors). In addition, work on front door was terrible both interior and exterior. Some trim replacement and clean up was required on front door, this work was done quite well, however, the quality of painting of area surrounding glass was profoundly disappointing. Workers had to return 3 times and even after 3rd return did not complete work requested in a satisfactory manor. Although supervisor offered for a new crew to return to complete work we declined. Finally, over the course of this project there were many days that it rained. Workers appeared rushed during these times and even wanted to paint exposed areas while rain was falling. I twice requested that they not paint due to precipitation.

They were punctual, neat and clean. I had one issue with them and the boss came out and fixed it promptly. I had gotten five or six quotes for the work. They were not the cheapest, but far from the most expensive. I would use them again.

My experience with this company started out well. They were able to come out sooner than scheduled for an estimate. However from there on it was not a pleasant experience. I had selected this company based on this list and the BBB ratings. I got the estimate and while the estimator was here I asked if he could also give me a quote on painting the interior entry of our home. He said that he had to do that from his office and that he would email me the quote andthen add it in to the bid for the exterior work. I never got the bid for the interior work. We decided to go ahead and have the exterior job done anyway. I called and left a message with Mr. Stanley but he didn't return my call. The next day I called the office and the receptionist sent him an email to call me. When he called, he said that he couldn't tell me when they could do the work because he wasn't in the office but that he would call the next day with all the information. The next day I waited until 4 p.m. and hadn't heard from him so I called the office. Mr. Stanley told me that the scheduling person was on vacation so he still couldn't give me a firm time for when they would start the job. He said it would be Monday of the next week before he could get back to me (this was on Thursday). When I asked him about the estimate for the interior entry he said that he sent it via email, but that they were having some difficulties with their system. Surprisingly, he couldn't get it for me while I was on the phone. For a company this large, I find it difficult to understand why all scheduling stops because one person is not there. Because of the lack of responsiveness, the being put off for definite scheduling, and the fact that we had to call them for information, we decided not to use this company. Our fear is that if it is this difficult to schedule the work, how hard is it going to be when/if we need them to come out to fix work we find unacceptable? So, we will move on .....

Hi, I am sorry for the delays and confusion. Our production manager was indeed on vacation and had done advance scheduling for the period in which he was out and further. John was trying to get you an answer before the production manager returned. Because of the complexities of scheduling, we do have one and only one person in charge it and it is done once weekly. It is far less problematic, but it did not work out for either of us in this case. Regarding the interior quote, John may have typed in your email address incorrectly. The interior quotes are itemized by room and surface to be painted and we do not give the quotes over the phone. I could have him try again, drop it off, mail it, or fax though. Once again, please accept my apologies for this. I wish you the best.

Roofing was scheduled first and took one day to complete. Job went well and the supervisor (Steve Lewis) has been back a couple of times to ask us about the work and look over the project. Steve came back today (7/02/09) to see about the other work going on at the house and how it has impacted the roof installation. He performed the final inspection.
Description of Work: Removed single layer of shingles. Removed and replaced original wind turbines. Installed 20 yr. roof and flashing. This job is i conjunction with another project they are working on with us. Hauled off all removed old materials. Floated a portion of roof in order to make appearance of shingles typical throughout the roof.

First I really am not into being given an estimate and inflating the price by $300 and then give me a coupon for $300. I had numerous estimates and they were no cheaper and no more expensive after they gave me the coupon. That really does nothing more than insult my intelligence. First I come in from work and noticed the door jam has been completely replace which was nice to see but since my door had a 2" gap at the bottom I was amazed anyone would consider that completed. Next I noticed that every round soffit vent I had was bent and tore up. Next I notice numerous shrubs that had been used as landing platforms by the guys as they got off their ladders. I called them back out to fix these items and they said they would but where they told me they would be back on a Thursday I did not see them till Monday and no phone call was ever made about the time change. By this time the couple of the areas that had paint originally peeling off now had their paint coming off so I asked them to please prime and repaint again in thoes areas again. I opted to go by the soffit vents myself and install them since I like them not bent. They did refund the money I had spent at Home Depot. A week later all the caulk they put up cracked, I mean all the caulk. So once again they came out a week later to fix and they wanted to use my touch up paint. I asked not only can you not use my paint since I only had a half of a quart left behind from the first time you guys came out I need another gallon to retouch some areas. They were very nice about getting me another gallon of paint which was the top of the line Kelly Moore 1245. After they re-caulked everthing they let it dry and came back and brush touched it and it looked worse. You can't brush touch over a spray since the brush does not apply the paint in the same way and you leave brush marks. They also fell into another shrub in the back of the house and left the limb sitting on the ground which at least throw it in the trash, come on! Any way I rerolled all the back porch and soffit areas that were re-caulked and it looks nice now. In a nut shell here is what went wrong that they could of controlled: 1)Poor communication on returning to the job site 2)Lots of damage to the landscape 3)Not allowing caulk to dry properly causing numerous crack 4)Damage to soffit vents 5)Brush touching onto a smooth sprayed surface 6) Don't jack the price to use the coupon just make a good deal 7) A 2 inch gap at the bottom a door is unacceptable no matter where you are living please inspect all work before leaving the job site.
Description of Work: I asked the company to come out and bid on an exterior repaint with fixing some peeling paint and to fix the bottom of a door jamb due to rotten wood.

Hi member, I am very sorry this project did not work out as be both expected. I cannot comment on most of your complaints as I have some team members out of town that I need to speak with. I will definitely do so and get back with you. We are 'best of the best' as you say, but unfortunately did not live up to your expectations or mine this time. I will do everything I can to make this right for you. I will say that we do not inflate our prices only to reduce them with a coupon. We do put more material and labor into each job and the extra cost involved is indeed reflected in a higher bottom price. I appreciate your business and your comments here. I will follow up with you next week. -Jason Phillips

Great experience overall. They caulked one day and painted the next. We had a couple of glitches in our schedule that required them to do our doors last but they accommodated us nicely. The work was quick, very well done and the crew and foreman very pleasant. Most impressive was that we had a cardinal nest in a small potted tree by the front door - under the 2 story entry and next to the door they had to paint. I had asked them to be aware of the nest as they worked and they were very quiet and careful. In fact, the momma bird was back on the nest within 5 minutes of their departure - so I'd say they went above and beyond for that.

The carpenter of the crew discussed with me options to repair the deck and did a great job to fix it. When the crew was finished, the supervisor went around the house with me to check everything. He found a place on the back garage door that the rubber facing had not been replaced and got the worked who had painted that door to replace the facing. Several of the crew went around the house checking places that looked like they weren't done well and touched them up. They were all very polite to me.
Description of Work: They removed rotten wood from second floor and deck, replaced it with new wood, then painted all the exterior doors, garage door and the deck. The next day they masked off the doors and windows of the upstairs and downstairs and sprayed the wood siding and the garage door. The also painted some trim that I requested on door facings, the well house, and the gutters.

I could not be more pleased with the service from my initial phone call to the end of the work. I was treated very kindly and professionally by everyone with whom I had contact. It is no wonder to me that Phillips Painting gets high marks from others who have used their service. Terry Rock came to give me an estimate on the work to be performed, and I knew immediately that I had made the right call. He explained their services completely and made me feel comfortable about using them. As a family-owned business, they ensure that every step of the process meets the standards they want to come under the Phillips name. I received the estimate and signed the paperwork on a Thursday with the expectation of the work to begin on Monday weather permitting. I received a phone within a couple of days stating they would begin on Monday and would complete the next day if the weather cooperated. All pressure washing and prep was completed on Monday. Because of rain, the project was delayed two days, but on Thursday the painting was completed. Not only was the work neat and professional, but I was impressed with how they cleaned up after themselves and how quickly and efficiently they worked. They were there to paint my house, and that's what they did. I felt comfortable having them working around my house with all the doors ajar because they were professional. There was no distraction to me, and they used every minute they were here on the job they came to do. Before leaving, they walked me around the property to see if I had any questions, concerns or problems. Within a couple of weeks I also had a nice letter thanking me for using them and reminding me that my satisfaction was important and to call if I had any issues. I know I will be using them for interior painting before long, and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who needs painting, roofing or gutters. These are great people to work with, and I know you would not be disappointed.

They did a satisfactory job, but it didn't conform 100% to what was briefed in the estimate. I wanted some unusual things done, like the downspouts to stop for some rain barrels, but they ran them all the way down to the ground. I guess the lapse was because they used a subcontractor and they didn't pass down the information to him. Other than this issue, they did a fine job.

I have a roof leak that is dripping through the into the house. I called Phillips. I was told it was a crack and a quick fix. They put a sealant on an area of my roof. Then the 3 day rainstorm came. The roof is still leaking water into my house. Needless to say 3 days of rain has ruined my floors and walls. They added more sealant. Next rainstorm- roof is still leaking. Steve told me that replacing roofs is their real 'bread and butter' and that they can't fix the roof, but will refund my money. If they can't fix a roof leak, who would trust them to do an entire roof? I still haven't got my money back. I've been a member of Angie's List for about 2 years and this is the first negative review I've done. I feel that I gave Phillips Painting and Roofing many chances to do right by me, and they failed over and over again.

I AM VERY SORRY THAT WE DID NOT GET YOUR LEAK COMPLETELY FIXED. STEVE FOUND SOME OBVIOUS PROBLEMS THAT WERE MOST LIKELY CONTRIBUTING TO THE LEAK AND FIXED THEM. THOSE AREAS ARE NO LONGER LEAKING. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE MUST BE ADDITIONAL ISSUE(S) CAUSING THE LEAK. YOU HIRED US TO SOLVE A PROBLEM/LEAK. WE DID FIND PROBLEMS AND REPAIRED THEM. WE DID NOT COST YOU MONEY…WE WERE SIMPLY TRYING TO FIX AN EXISTING PROBLEM. WHEN WE WERE UNABLE TO COMPLETELY FIX THE LEAK AFTER TWO ATTEMPTS, WE OFFERED YOU THE OPTION FOR US TO KEEP WORKING AT IT, OR, IF YOU PREFERRED A FRESH SET OF EYES ON THE PROBLEM, TO REFUND YOUR MONEY. YOU CHOSE A REFUND, WHICH IS IN PROGRESS. YOU WILL BE RECEIVING IT SHORTLY. I DO NOT FEEL THE RATING YOU GAVE US WAS FAIR. WE PROVED WE WERE WILLING TO MAKE IT RIGHT BY EITHER CONTINUING TO PUT TIME AND EFFORT INTO IT OR REFUND YOU MONEY EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE FIXED SOME EXISTING PROBLEMS. I WISH YOU THE BEST AND AM SORRY THAT WE WERE NOT ABLE TO GET THIS LEAK FIXED FOR YOU THE FIRST TIME.

I like them. They did an awesome job. They were not as expensive as some of the other independent people that I got estimates from. They have insurance so if anything gets damaged or anything they are able to take care of it. There was a little spot on the wall from the stuff they used to repair the ceiling and when we noticed it they came right out the next day and fixed it.

They did everything well except couldn't find any obvious rat holes. After work was done, they told me they don't normally do this. I got them to agree to meet pest control guy at my house and he showed them 5 obvious rat holes in roof area. After 2 days I didn't hear from them so I called them. He told me he doesn't normally do this but would pass on to another guy who would call me back. I finally had it done by a friend of the pest control guy and I still haven't heard from roofers. Dos - They did a good job at replacing rotted, chewed on wood. Don'ts - They didn't fix rat holes and if I would have known that in the beginning, I would have waited on the other items that needed repair. The rat holes needed immediate attention, not the rest.

They did a wonderful job and everything went well. The price was good and they stuck to their estimate. They did some work that I didn't even think they were going to do, replacing some boards in some places that I didn't even mention, which blew my mind! We did have one minor issue with some overspray on one of our windows. When we mentioned it to them, they said no problem and came back out and got all of the spray off of the window. Other than that I have yet to find a thing wrong with the job.

We were very happy with the entire experience Our crew chief was Antonio I think, and he was really great. He helped me out with the color by putting up a few samples and making some suggestions- or I would have made a mistake with what I had chosen earlier. They were great to clean up at the end of the day, and finished everything in two days. They covered and masked the windows and all the parts that needed to be protected really well. Follow up was great and I am very happy with the results. I feel sure I will use them again.
Description of Work: The Sales Rep, Jeff Hahs, was very punctual in coming for the estimate. We discussed what needed to be done and he made notes as we went. There was some carpentry work involved due to some rotting on the siding. Jeff was able to give us the estimate on his first visit and we decided to use Phillips to repair and paint the exterior trim on our home. They power washed, filled and caulked, made the repairs and painted the exterior trim, garage door and gutters on our home.

It was perfect! We will have them back out to repaint the whole house. They gave us a fair bid and was within the estimate. They cleaned up after themselves.
Description of Work: They painted the outside of my house on my chimney. They replaced boards, and caulked them and then painted the chimney. They basically rebuilt my chimney.
