My wife and I had been debating for quite some time whether or not to enclose our home's front flex room into a bedroom. Our two biggest concerns were the possible high cost and the unknown of how well the work would be performed. Some of the major work to be done included framing in an opening and installing 60" french doors, framing a closet, installing dry wall, texturing, trim work, and some tile work for the threshold to the room. We do a lot of our own handyman work but the scope of this job was a little out of our comfort zone. We contacted Handyman Matters and scheduled a time to get a quote. Crayden showed up on time to discuss our needs. We spent about half an hour with him. He was very pleasant, sharp, and knowledgeable, and helped us understand how to best accomplish what we wanted. The work seemed pretty straightforward to Crayden and the quote was surprisingly good. These two things gave us the confidence to move forward. We decided to engage them and scheduled a time to complete the work. Crayden showed up on time each day and took a steady-paced, thoughtful approach to the work. As self-proclaimed handymen, we were curious how such a project was done and he answered any and all questions we had, explaining in detail how and why he framed, dry walled, textured, and laid tile the way he did. It was really nice to get that kind of communication. We learned a lot and enjoyed understanding the details. He completed the work on time and on budget. As planned, we were able to offer the new bedroom to our holiday guests. We are more than happy with Handyman Matters and the superb work performed by Crayden. We highly recommend this company and individual. We will be contacting them should another project arise.

John and Bill are rock stars. They came in, set up the scaffolding, and went straight to work. You could immediately tell they took pride in their work because the box looks like an extension of the roof and you'd never know it was new. I can't say enough good things about them and the quality job they did for us.

I called Handyman Matters and was pleased that they could send someone out the next day. I explained to the lady at the company what I needed done and she assured me that the person who came out could take care of everything. The person (Steve) arrived on time but when I told him what needed to be done (replacing 7 shingles to start with) he told me that he couldn't do that. He called his office and said that I would have to call a roofer. I told them that I had and that I was told that the job was simple and a handyman could do it. I said that also the chimney needed painting and sealing and he said it was too cold for that. I also needed grout work and an adjustment on a kitchen cabinet. He just seemed like he didn't want to do anything. He did adjust the cabinet and placed a screw in a different location. By that time I was frustrated and suggested they come back at another time, so he said someone could come back on Friday 1/16. I am going to call and cancel that appointment because I don't want to deal with this company any more. He said that he had done 1/2 hour of work so it would be subtracted from the 4 hours of the deal I bought.

He did a great job. He was supposed to come two days prior, but his other job went over so he rescheduled and gave me a 10% discount for my troubles. He left the area clean when done. He came, got the job done and was gone.

Mike came out to our house just prior to our moving in to take care of a few odd jobs that the seller did not do. These included recalking the exterior expansion joints (in the bitter cold!), fixing a slightly running toilet and installing a couple electrical jacks. When he left, both my wife and I loved Mike and were sure we would request he come out again when we had more. As it turned out, we discovered our master bathtub slowly leaked water, and Mike came back out very quickly and replaced the drain with an even better one. Once again, we were completely satisfied. Sometimes you need the specialized services of an electrician or plumber or painter, and sometimes the odd jobs are ones you can do yourself. But there's a wide world between those two and Mike from Handyman Matters filled that niche perfectly. Hopefully we won't need more repairs for a while now that we are moved in, but we know we'll call these guys again if we do.

Mike was right on time. He went right to work once we showed him where everything was. He was very considerate with noise since my husband works from home and was on the phone the whole time. He was able to install the cat door very quickly. The bathroom fans were a little more tedious, but Mike was able to troubleshoot and install all fans. I felt he did quality work and didn't try to do something he wasn't qualified to do. We would definitely recommend him.

Handyman showed up on time, was very polite, completed the work ahead of estimated schedule. We will definitely use this company again!

The company and the individual repair person were both punctual, courteous, and professional at all times. I was told, based on my written description, expectations, and images provided, that it would take 2.5-3 hours to complete the work, so I purchased the three-hour deal, expecting that it's possible I'd have to pay more for materials. The job actually took 5 hours, and because of their pricing structure the total cost of $675, well more than double the estimate. As far as the repair, the drywall repair is level with the rest of the ceiling and paint matches. However, the texture is very different from the rest of the ceiling. It's the same type of texture, but it wasn't applied to match the rest of the ceiling, so the repair area is obvious.

The appointment went fairly well. He did an excellent job with showers. He changed out batteries and we are still getting some beeping and chirping with detectors. I've had to do some additional trouble shooting but that's ok. He also changed out some hard to reach light bulbs.

- In advance, I received a firm estimate of three (3) up to a maximum of five (5) hours labor, and already having the proper sized pre-hung door previously purchased and delivered to my home. I approved the estimate, and the work was scheduled. - The day of the work, an individual arrived at the home, in the morning, on time in a rather broken down looking vehicle. Rodney, the worker that exited from the vehicle, look rather tattered, was quit large, and walked with a significant limp. My first impressions was that I had made a drastic mistake. It did not appear that I had selected a professional organization to handle what was a relatively simple construction task. But, with some lingering concern, I review with Rodney where the pre-hung door was to be installed. I then watched him begin the job. - My initial observation was that Rodney was equipped with less than the proper carpentry tools to do the job. In addition, I observed that Rodney moved very slow. Often times Rodney just stood for minutes and view a task at hand, burning up the clock. It was as if Rodney had not previously installed a pre-hung door, or Rodney was simply not a worker who was skilled in his profession. "As an example, I provided rather expensive new brick mold for the exterior, which naturally needed to be miter cut to on 45 degree. I as Rodney whether he had a miter saw to cut the molding. Rodney said don't worry. Next thing I see is Rodney on the patio porch cutting the miter joints by hand with a power hand saw in one hand and the molding in another. Obviously, the miter joint was totally unacceptable to anyone with any basic carpentry knowledge". "As a second example, I see Rodney filling screw holes with silicone chalk dabbing it on with his finger, rather than using a putty knife. The result was a glob of silicone, rather than a professional flat fill via a straight putty knife. For some strange reason, Rodney felt that degree of job perfection should be acceptable" - Having had personal experience in hanging multiple pre-hung doors myself, I had to continually mention to Rodney that the alignment of the door was not correct, nor acceptable. Rodney would attempt to correct the issue, but either the situation would not improve or simply get worse. At this point, approximately 4 1/2 hours had passed without the pre-hung door or door casings being installed. Finally! Rodney called his supervisor asking for assistance! . At the same time, I placed a call to Handy Man, Collin County and ask that I be immediately contacted by the owner. I was told that Andrew (the owner) would be calling me shortly. - After approximately 1/2 hour, Rodney's supervisor shows up. He looks at the job, consults with Rodney, and proceeds to assist him in getting the door casing square. He also helped Rodney anchor the casing in place, then said he absolutely had to depart back to the job he had been working on. This left only Rodney to complete the job of fulling anchoring the door casing and putting up the brick mold. He also then had to attempt to fill the wide gaps in the brick mold that he clobbered up during his hand sawing. By this time, it was close to six (6) hours having gone by, and Andrew the owner shows up to review the job and consult with me! - Andrew makes the statement to me that a job like this should not have taken more than 3 1/2 hours or so to complete. He indicated that Rodney seemed to be a hard worker with good intent, but maybe he should have not dispatched him on a job such as this by himself. Andrew then made the comment that he would address the billable time and make sure it was billed appropriately. After consulting with Rodney, Andrew then prepared to leave, leaving the actual Smartphone billing process up to Rodney. - THE NET RESULT IS THAT I WAS BILLED FOR A FULL FIVE (5) HOURS OF LABOR! AND, FOR A JOB THAT ENDED UP WHICH IS VISUALLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A RELATIVELY NEW HOUSE! I GUESS ANDREWS THINKING THAT HE WAS TAKING CARE OF ME BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE RODNEY BILL ME FOR THE EXCESSIVE 6 1/2 HOURS HE STUMBLED AROUND ON SITE (OF WHICH SOME OF THE TIME WAS WAITING FOR HIS SUPERVISOR AND OWNER TO ARRIVE).

Handyman Matters contacted me in a timely manner and set up an appointment to work on my door/lock. Rodney arrived early after calling to make sure that was acceptable. He was very polite. Unfortunately after studying the door, frame and lock and replacing one screw with a longer one, he decided to hammer on the door frame and use a crowbar to bend the door hinges so it would connect. Rodney then suggested tearing apart the exterior door frame and trying to repair/replace the door. I said NO. Thanks anyway. The door does locks now, but for no more than 30 minutes of work, I think $117 (that was their $130 minimum with a 10% discount) was too much to pay. I will not be hiring them again.

We had a bad experience with this company. We needed ceiling repairs and touch-up painting throughout the house. The bidder completely underbid the scope and then, to our surprise, came back to do the work. It looked AWFUL when he was done - wrong texture and wrong color - and twice as long as estimated and didn't do any of the touch up painting. Called the boss, who vowed to make it right. Brought in his 'master painter' who admitted he's not a painter, and they referred me to a painting contractor. Had no choice but to use his referral because he had worked out a deal w/ him to cover cost of texture, but the rest was paid by us. Ended up spending THOUSANDS of dollars on this project. Also, dusty mess left behind. I would NOT recommend them for ANY painting.

I spoke with Tim via email last week and he got me on the schedule for 8/11/14. He advised me Rodney would be coming to my home at 11am as I requested. Rodney called an hour before our scheduled appointment to ask if he could come early because he finished his morning job sooner than expected. I told him absolutely! He arrived within 20 minutes. He was friendly and we had a great conversation as he worked. He was extremely professional and made recommendations to ensure no issues arise from improper placement of items on the shelves he hung. Rodney even consulted me about another job while he was here and made suggestions for that job as well. All in all, he did an amazing job and I will be contacting them should I need any other handyman services.

They came out in a timely manner and provided me with an estimate. Was very knowledgeable and helpful in the decision making. The workmanship on the completed job is excellent. The office seems disorganized but I was told they were in the process of moving. The actual process from estimate to completed job went really well.

Very simple - i emailed for an estimate, received one and was told that it could vary based on the time spent at my house. They bill hourly, which can be a little annoying in all honesty because the job could get incredibly costly very quickly. But, I also understand why they do it this way. I typically prefer to do this type of work myself. I like the learning process and quite frankly, the doors shouldn't have been hard to put in at all. BUT - they were. Unfortunately my hardwood floors were installed up to the doorjamb instead of cutting out the doorjamb, so there was a hole at the bottom of each side. I spent about 3 days working on the doors trying to get them to line up and open shut correctly but it just wasn't happened. I suspected I found the problem but needed an expert to come and validate, so I reached out to Handyman. Jack showed up on time today and because there are 2 doors, and heavy, I had to help him. I'm younger than Jack and bigger, and I had a h*** of a time moving them myself. I also wanted to confirm that I was correct on the problem. Jack came in and immediately started working, and asked if we could pull out the doors and frame and take a look. He diagnosed and confirmed that I was correct, and he immediately pulled out the tools and got working. He wasn't bothered that I was there watching, and I even got to partake in some of the action while learning. Now my doors open and shut correctly, and he's provided me with a stable door frame that I can trim out. From my experience with Jack, I would absolutely recommend using them and will more than likely be using them in the future. He was very helpful and explained to me what was going on so I would know what, and how, to do it in the future. If you have a project that requires someone who's an expert in their field, rest assured, you will be in good shape using Jack. It was more expensive than others, which is why I rated the price a B, but I also believe that I was paying for an expert and felt like that's what I got.

Their representative arrived on time and spent maybe 10 minutes looking over what I consider to be a small job. I am remodeling my kitchen and need 2- 6 " wall extensions built, a 53" hutch opening that needs downsized to 48" and approximately 8 sheets of drywall installed, taped and bedded. Normally, I could do this work myself but at present I am injured and unable. The price given for this small job that could be done in probably 1 day was ridiculously high even with an Angie's List discount. I will not call them again and won't recommend their service to anyone

Handyman Matters did a great job. They were punctual. . . professional . . . and their carpentry work, including elaborate decorative woodwork, was topnotch. It would almost be a blessing to encounter woodrot at my home again so that I could use this group. Highly recommended - I am a construction lawyer and found Handyman Matters to be great!

The service was set up to be at 4PM, was late by an hour, no call or notification. This made me a little nervous but the end result was a satisfactory repair. The actual repair was about 45-60 min but I had to pay for 2 hours because the run to Home Depot for parts was on the clock. The technician was unaware of an Angie's List coupon so I wasn't able to use it. It was around 7 PM when the repair was finished so contacting the office did not happen. It was only 5%, not a big deal. The work quality was good, I would call them again but I will make sure the coupons are discussed before the tech arrives.

The company made no mention of there being a charge for an estimate. The company should make sure the customer understands that there is a trip charge for an estimate. The estimate was $180 to replace an exterior board. I am now out $45 from a company that provided an overpriced estimate. Beware of asking them for a bid.

I got them form Angie’s List and they are highly rated in my location. They were great. They did it all and they were good. They knew exactly what they were doing. They are not cheap and they are not going to be the least expensive but they are very competent in what they do and sometimes that is more important. Sometimes the cheapest guy is not the best deal. They charge for what they do and you get your money’s worth.

Estimating process was easy. The price as quoted and agreed to was exactly what I paid on completion. The work took three days and was not easy to complete. Our handy man was Joe C. He is a real pro with over 25 years experience as a master carpenter, foreman, and home builder. The work looks great and I am now ready to paint the exterior of the house. The job was pretty messy and it was totally cleaned up on completion. No open work was left over night. Everything was sealed up at the end of the work day.
