It was done by a father and son and the company sent them over. They were in the neighborhood when we called them. It was a father & son team and they came over and did a nice job. They did what they were supposed to do. it was 1:30 in the afternoon. Price was real big, but everything is high. I really don?t think they could have done anything too much better. They answered the calls promptly, did the job, courteous.

Mr. Sullivan came on a Monday to do estimate and showed back up next day to start job as planned. The way he communicated what needed to be done and his dedication to the quality of his work was amazing. I appreciated his work ethic and professionalism. My husband and I would hire him again and definitely have more projects to be done.
Description of Work: We hired Sullivan Home Service to do deck repair. Our deck was built around a maple tree. The tree grew into the deck and damaged the deck boards, supports and could have caused us to lose it overall. We also needed some trim work replaced and a step repaired.

Steve was responsive to messages and showed up on time. It was a pretty simple job (more mess than I wanted to deal with), and he got a good understanding of the job then got right to it and knocked it out in an about an hour. Very nice to talk to and even provided some helpful feedback on other things he observed while crawling around in our crawl space. I would gladly hire Steve again to do other odd jobs and handyman work around our house.
Description of Work: Ran ethernet cable from under the house from one end to the other, then tacked it up onto the floor joists in the crawl space.

Steve was amazing! His attention to detail was something you just don't see much anymore. I think Steve is everything you could ask for in a handyman: honest, polite, timely, skilled and clean. He arrived everyday when he said he would be there, he kept his work area clean and he communicated with us throughout the project. Steve was also able to adjust design several times midway through the project which other contractors would have either refused to consider or charged us too much money. I have used hundreds of contractors over the years and Steve is definitely someone I will keep on speed dial. Thank you Steve! Our fireplace looks amazing!!!

Steve was polite and seemed to be doing his best, but he worked very slowly. When he arrived, we had more work for him than we anticipated, so he did not get the bulk of the work done and some of the work that he did do was faulty (crooked, improperly installed blinds), so we ended up hiring another handyman to complete the jobs for the sake of saving time. He was very nice but probably not the best value for the money as far as a handyman goes.

I'm not really sure just what these people expect of a person, but in 3 hours, I hung 4 cafe style rods, 2 mirrors, removed 2 window blinds and hung 2 wood slat blinds. One of the blinds was damaged, which we did not know until it was almost completely installed, and had to be removed and replaced with another, which was not either the members fault or mine, but it still took time to complete. It is an old house with floors and ceilings out of level. I used a level to ensure that all was hung correctly, and I politely pointed out the unlevel condition. Additionally, I asked the member to OK each installation, which she did. Had she been forthright with me at the time, rather than telling me she was pleased, I would have been happy to correct anything with which she was displeased. I'm not sure what else I could have done since she said the job was done to her satisfaction. The member also had several questions about other projects around the house which I happily answered. The whole experience seemed pleasant and cordial. I am truly perplexed by this review.
Shoddy, expensive work that we must now have redone by someone else who knows what they're doing. We BLED money for 3 days with this handyman. When we finally fired him on day 3 to stop the bleeding, he stomped around our house banging things around for a good while. So unprofessional, and so unexpected, given his happy disclaimer at the beginning: ?If you?re not happy with my progress after a couple days, just don?t pay me.? Ugh. I wrote him a check just to get him out of our house. Anyone thinking of purchasing an hourly work package from Angie's List should think twice after hearing this story. Short version $1050 for 24 hours of work bought us: Unfinished spackling 4 small holly trees cut down (stumps remained) Huge masonry cracks, stained bricks, and gobs of hard concrete in our soft brick exterior walls Drama Long version We hired him to do several projects on our fixer upper at his Angie?s List rate of $400/day: masonry, drywall, tree removal, painting prep, and various carpentry tasks. He declined to give estimates for each job but estimated 6-8 days altogether, which seemed on par with itemized estimates we?d received elsewhere. Seemed like a nice guy. Acted like he knew what he was talking about -- but just in case, I asked him to use soft mortar when fixing our old brickwork, because using hard concrete to seal soft, old masonry destroys that type of brick when it expands and contracts. He nodded along ? seemed legit. We agreed to start work. By the time we?d spent $400 (day 1): he had spackled some small drywall blemishes, taped a few settling cracks, and started repairing our masonry? with hard concrete ?though I wouldn?t find out about this until day 3. By this point, he was supposed to have completed all the masonry according to his own estimate, but fortunately his estimate was wildly inaccurate and he only made it a fourth of the way around the house. By the time we?d spent $800 (day 2): he had removed two 10-foot holly trees (the stumps remained) from our foundation plantings and worked on our masonry some more, continuing to chip out old mortar joints and fill a small handful of them... with more concrete. He?d made it another fourth of the way around the house by day?s end. I messaged him that night asking him to check in with me about the mortar he was using. As soon as he mentioned the concrete product he was applying, I pulled him off the masonry job completely and partially docked his pay. The only reason I didn?t refuse to pay him outright for his masonry work was his suggestion that his efforts would reduce the cost of having a mason finish the work, and I wanted to be fair to him for his time. (We later got a quote from a mason who had estimated the work previously ? same cost, but now he has to redo the handyman?s work.) For some reason, we agreed to continue working with Steve on our other projects. By the time we?d spent $1050 (day 3): he?d removed two more of those 10-foot holly trees (stumps remained), spackled a few more holes and taped some settling cracks in the drywall. We were so over budget because of him at this point that I let him go that night. As mentioned previously, it was ugly. I don?t understand all the positive reviews for Steve?s work. Maybe they were small jobs that didn?t require time management or attention to detail. There are a few negative reviews about him from people who said he really dragged out jobs, but I didn?t want to believe them. I really, really should have.

I strive to deliver an excellent experience for all of my clients, and I am truly disappointed this member was unhappy with our service. Please examine 100+ A grade reviews before you judge my worthiness. There are so many exaggerations and inaccuracies in this review that to rebut each one would make me sound petty and vindictive. While I do know no one can please everyone all of the time, "I strive to provide stellar service, so I am truly disappointed these folks are so unhappy. But even a cursory glance at my reviews shows that I do provide a high quality service. In fact, I have been honored with Angie's Super Service Provider award every year since I became an AL provider. I am proud of that since only about 5% of providers earn that award. If I ran my business the way this member has alleged, I expect it would have showed up before this, because to date I have served over 350 AL members, of whom 100+ have been gracious enough to give me a review, the majority of which are straight A's. This review states the facts in a highly inaccurate manner and seems more like a hit piece meant to portray me as slothful, sloppy, unprofessional, ignorant of masonry basics and maybe even a little dangerous. Thank goodness in my 40 years in the building trades I have run into only a handful of people like this. I ask that you trust the overwhelming majority of my reviews when considering Sullivan Home Service. You will be happy you did.

Steve did beautiful work & I could tell he takes great pride in the quality he provides. He took care to clean up the work area as tile replacement is a very dusty process. The day the project was to be completed I had a death in my family and had to travel out of state. Steve was very accommodating and arrived early so I could get on the road. I couldn't be happier with the finished product and will not hesitate to call Steve the next time I need housework.
Description of Work: replaced cracked ceramic tiles
Steve responded quickly to my initial contact and set up a date to perform the work. He called before he came to let me know that he was on his way. He arrived on time and was very professional. I am very pleased with the quality of the work and plan to schedule another day in the future to work on additional items.
Description of Work: Various items on my to-do list. Rehang mirror, level a cabinet, fix a cabinet door, replace screen in sliding door, replace outdoor lights, raise lights in dinning room.
Steve Sullivan is a fantastic contractor. I am finishing my basement and we have low ceilings that created some difficult issues with custom door sizes. Steve took my call and helped walk me through the process before he even showed up at my door. He was prompt, communicated well about when he would arrive and how much things would cost, and was polite and easy to work with right from the beginning. I called him to hang doors that were not pre-hung, thus, he had to do a lot of custom work by creating solid door frames, cut doors to the right openings, create proper door openings, hang doors, customize door stops and jams to fit area, etc. The doors turned out amazingly - honestly, they couldn't have come out any better. After he did such a great job with our doors, I asked Steve to help with fixing some errors previous contracts had made, including my own handy work, and he did a fantastic job. Steve is very well experienced could tackle most any job you need. I would highly recommend you use Steve for any handy work you need. I plan to use him again the next time a project comes up.
Description of Work: Framed doors, hung doors, created door stops, custom door jams, put in door handles, framed a wall, fixed previous contractors work, concrete work for shower step, and probably a few other things I am forgetting - he is a jack of all trades!

Steve is what I call an old-world craftsman. He's been in the home building and renovation profession for a long time, and he understands how things work. I hired him to replace the grout in the tiles in my two bathrooms. As he got into the job, he discovered that whoever had put down the tile previously had cut some corners. Steve suggested a better way to secure the tiles. When all the grouting was done, the bathrooms looked fresh and new. I was very pleased with his work, and how conscientious he was about cleaning up as he went. I plan to hire Steve again when it comes time to redo my bathrooms and kitchen.

Steve did a great job on all tasks. He stopped by later in the evening to provide an estimate, which was very convenient for our schedules. He seemed very knowledgeable about each request and pointed out any concerns right away. All work was top notch. The drywall and trim looked great, electrical outlets worked as expected, doors latched and closed correctly and the caulking looked great. The time estimate was for two days, but turned into three due to the electrical work being more complicated than expected. The extra day did not affect the job cost, which we appreciated. Steve stayed into the evening working each night and was committed to the job. We would definitely recommend Steve and hire him to do further work in the future when needed.
Description of Work: Steve helped us with a few different tasks to help prepare our home for the market. He did some finish work on a previously added dividing wall which included cleaning up some badly done drywall work (re-mudding, sanding, etc), installing trim/molding and wiring two electrical outlets. He also repaired around 4 doors that no longer latched or closed correctly and did some caulking in our kitchen.

ementMr. Sullivan came by beforehand to assess the old sink and what it would take to replace it. He arrived and went straight to work. We ran into a problem with the drain, given the fact that the house was so old. He needed to remove one tile to get access to the fitting behind the wall. This unforeseen problem, which was no one fault, added to the quote of the work, which was understandable. He informed me each step of the way if anything unusual came up, the drain was the only issue. He patched where the tile was removed and when he was done made sure there were no leaks. He then stayed to fix the gutter, by then it was getting dark and just started to rain. He did a great job. This is the second time we have used him to work for us and I would recommend him to anyone. He explains what needs to be done in detail and from what I can tell about him in the 2 times he has worked for us, seems to be a honest man.

Steve is a top notch handyman. He knows a lot about just about everything that can come up with home maintenance and he works to provide you with the most cost effective solution to meet your needs. He knows how it should be vented, the type of switch you should be using and the most effective lighting to use. He is honest and hard working and when the inevitable surprises pop up during the work he just soldiers through or finds a better way to deal with the new difficulty. We feel lucky to have found him.
