grout cleaning.
Job took approximately one and one-half day. Steve did an outstanding job. Steve worked constantly, not stopping to take a break for approximately 8 hours. He proved to be very helpful without being insistent in selection of a grout color. James Ramsberger, the owner came by to check on his employee's work when it was complete to be certain I was pleased. He will return in three days to seal the grout. Very professional company and personnel.

James came to home and looked at job. He guided us on the type tiles we need to purchase and suggested some vendors to use. He came out three days. Preparation, placing tiles, grouting. He always came as scheduled, worked efficiently and finished the job as scheduled. The work looks wonderful. This month (Feb 2014) I called him b/c the grouting that connects to the countertop had a couple of places where it was pulling loose. I also asked him to look at our guest bath to repair the grouting next to the tub. He did both and did not charge me. Great to work with.

Excellent work. Our bathroom travertine floor had begun to crack due to a previous poor installation. Jim went above and beyond to match the tiles and when finished, the new tiles are indistinguishable from the others. The shower floor looks great, as well. He was punctual and did quality work within the time frame he promised. We recommend him highly.

James and his crew are great to work with. They were very professional and exacting in preparing and laying the new tile in our kitchen. Our kitchen/breakfast area floor looks great! I highly recommend James and his company. They are not the least expensive, but they provide outstanding service and are very exacting in doing the job. James is easy to work with and provides detailed information on the work and materials. If we need tile work done again, I will definitely call him about it.
Description of Work: I called James to obtain a quote to replace the tile in our kitchen, breakfast nook and laundry room. He was prompt in coming out to provide the estimate and we decided to use his company for the job. They were very professional and completed the job on time.

I contacted James and two other tile installers to get quotes for installing 40 feet of a ceramic tile kitchen backsplash. Even though James quote was $125 more than the other two (who had matching quotes of $600), I went with James because I felt for the extra $125 I would get the personal touch that James' company's name promised. The first day, the installer put in 2/3 of the backsplash. A decorative that was to go over the range was on order at The Tile Shop but had not arrived. The second day, the decorative still had not arrived so the installer finished the remaining third as far as he could without it and then left early. ( I paid an additional $100 to have the decorative installed since it wasn't included in the original estimate. The installer did not install it well the first time. There was no grout line along the decorative's bottom edges but there was on the top edges. When I explained this to James, he sent his installer back to recut tile properly so that there was a grout line along the bottom edge as well.) With most of the backsplash up, I could see that there were too many brown tiles amid the light colored ones which I didn't like. I spent several hours exchanging most of the browns for lighter ones. While doing this, I noticed quite a few tiles which the installer had put in that were crooked, or not flush with the surface. or even had too much glue under them so that they were bulging out from the wall, so I fixed them as best I could. This was the very first time I had handled tile myself. The next day, the installer tiled in the decorative which had come in. James came by and stated that he did not take any responsibility for the craftsmanship of the tile installation since I had changed out so many. I understood and agreed. My mistake was that I should have let James know right away that I was not happy with his installer's craftsmanship as well as that I wanted a lot of the brown tile replaced with lighter tiles. I'm sure James would have properly handled both these issues. On the final day of the job, the installer grouted the backslash and signed off, walking away without caulking. I decided to wait until the grout dried to judge if the grout application was professionally done or not. It wasn't. There was not enough of it in most places so that the under-cabinet lighting produced dark, pronounced shadows on the backsplash; there were trowel marks, air bubbles, a couple places where the grout was still glopped on and not sponged off well; and two outlet covers had exposed gaps from badly cut tile. Furthermore, I saw all the flaws with the placement of the tiles, both my work and the installer's. Unfortunately, I had already paid James in full. Another mistake. When I emailed James to ask him to please come and look at the grout job to see what he thought of it, James responded 'in the next couple days.' This was on a Thursday. On Friday. late afternoon , when it became obvious to me that this was not the day he was going to come, I texted him. With no response a half hour later, I called him. W hile his phone rang, I got his text, "I'm busy. Call me later." Eventually, however, James did come and look at the grout job, and I also pointed out my issues with some of the tile placements. To his credit, he came himself and replaced all the tile I was not happy with, even though I had verbally agreed to his disclaimer on the tile work due to my having done some of it myself, and added another layer of grout to the backsplash. Finally, it looked like a professional had done the work. I was relieved. I think James' fixing up the backsplash to my satisfaction was not just a smart business move but also an act of personal integrity. At first, after I had received the text message, "I'm busy, call later'," I believed I was never going to hear from James again, and decided Personal Touch Ceramic had earned an overall 'D' grade. But since James did show up and addressed my issues, leaving behind him a professional tile job, Personal Touch has earned an overall 'B' grade.

Jim Ramsberger is a perfectionist and is my kind of guy. When he bid the job, he said "Here is the timeline for your project. On Wednesday we are going to do this, on Thursday we are going to do this and on Friday we are going to do that. I will be by on Friday to do a walk through and see if the job is completed to your satisfaction." Everything was as he said. Promises made...promises kept. Jim and his company are what is still right with our country.. A family owned business who knows how to show up on time, bring the project in on budget and completely clean up his mess. A solid 10 in all aspects.

I was made aware of Personal Touch Ceramic Tile from my daughter who had some water damage in her master bath last year. She was impressed with and pleased with the work done for her and I liked what I saw. Jim came out several times and spent time explaining to me the steps and stages involved for my project.. He was very patient with me, communicated well, and helped me understand all that would be involved. He offered many suggestions and listened to my concerns for safety. At one point he made the comment that he had never been asked so many questions and wondered if I was finished "grilling" him. We had a good laugh about that. I have two sons in the heating, air, and plumbing business, so I was getting input from all directions and had many questions that he answered on a lay persons level. Jim and John were very punctual, here at or just before 8:00AM every day. They worked long days and cleaned up every day before leaving. I felt very safe and comfortable having them in my home. Jim directed me to several stone places to look and choose my stone from. He seems to have a good reputation with all of them. He also had a good connection with the electric company I used to put in the outlet for the heated floors and the glass company the installed my shower doors. He is well respected amoung his peers. I made several minor changes as the work progressed. Jim was able to be very flexible with those changes. He let me design and lay out the back of my niche which turned out quite nicely. I am extremely pleased with the work done. My son and daughter-in-law have a problem in their bathroom and I have highly recommended Personal Tough Ceramic Tile to them. Jim really does put a professional person touch to his business!!
Description of Work: The provider did a complete bathroom remodel on the master bath and replaced flooring in the second bathroom.. My home is 33 years old and needed an update in preparation for my growing older and being able to safely take care of myself for many more years to come. The tub was torn out and replaced with a walk in shower, bench, and grab bars. The old 4 inch tile was taken up and replaced with heated natural stone flooring, The bathroom vanity was raised, and new fixtures installed.

I set out to get 3 or more quotes for our backsplash and tile floor installation! Of the three main quotes, James was the only installer from Angie's list that I contacted, the others were from outside sources. James was the only one to provide me with step by step details of the installation. The other guys came, measured, and gave me a price, never really going into details about the job. All had different styles and techniques for the work. I felt comfortable with James from the start. He arrived to give me a quote on the time and date we scheduled. James is very knowledgable about the installation process, and focuses on this area of exprertise, this made me very comfortable with my selection. I didn't want an installer who can do everything ok, I wanted someone who could install tile perfectly! Also, a plus, James does the work himself, so no BS with guys not informed about the job. I didn't want a guy to bid the job, then hand it off to a sub contractor. James and I set a date for a Monday morning start. James arrived and immediatly went to work. I provided all the tile, James provided everything else. James prepped all the area, installed the backsplash, backer board, and floor, cleaned up, and sealed everything. Make sure your "sealing" is included, I found out some guys do not include that in the quote, James does! Our payment plan was 1/3 down, 1/3 halfway through job, 1/3 when complete and statisfied. The quote was $4144.08 for everything, the actual price was $4,136.60. This price included the installation of the backsplash and tile floor, backer board, mortar, grout, caulk, labor, sealer! I purchased the backsplash tile from Lowe's and the floor tile from Buy Floors Direct. My wife and I could not be happier with the work James did. Months after the installation, James has called to make sure everything is ok! I can't imagine a situation where anyone could be unhappy with his work, or himself! I have and will continue to recommend James to anyone!

It went wonderful. We paid another person to lay a tile floor and it began cracking within a week. They came and tore up the existing floor and laid a new one perfectly. They also put up a new subway tile backsplash in our kitchen. They were prompt, returned calls, and performed the work quickly. I couldn't be any happier.

We offered them our assistance in a re-tile project that unfortunately was provided by a contractor that had limited experience. I wish they hadn't had to pay twice to have their bathrooms tiled. We offered a reduced rate to help. The project turned out just as planned.customers were pleaed and offered us the kitchen splash project as well.

Jim was prompt in all of his appointments and very courteous when he knew he might be late. His showed up on time. Gave me a clear and fair estimate of the type of work to be done, the cost, the time involved and the warranty (or lack thereof) on which parts. After final payment, as promised, he showed up on Saturday at the correct time and finished a couple of things off and sealed the tile and grout. I would heartily recommend this man to anyone wanting a fair price for truly beautiful work, professionally done.

we replaced a dated tub enclosure tile with a more modern looking product. clipped an electrical line in the wall inadvertently during the removal. quickly we had it repaired by a qualified electrician. homeowner was patient and understanding of this and to that we are thankful. we also repaired damaged tile flooring installed by a previous installer that became loose at the toilet area. Failure to raise the flange was the reason behind this unseen failure. its important to modify commode area flange material based on new tile height when going from carpet or vinyl to a raised tile floor.

I hired a drywall/handyman guy to fix the walls of my bathroom. He did a good job and said he could tile. He gave me a good price so I hired him. He got a part of the way done and I fired him. Called Jim and he was there that day, explained what he would do to fix it and how long it would take. The next day his crew was there when he said and did a great job. This was no easy fix either. He had to take tiles off of the wall to repair the damage that had been done. He also worked very hard to save me money by using the tile we had and not having to buy more tile. Jim is my new tile guy!! He knows what he's doing and a master at his craft.

Completely Gutted 5x7 Bathroom Green Board installed prior to Personal Ceramic starting Project Started 3/11/13 Initial Start up seemed to move along fairly well. Time and consideration was taken to go over layout of tile and details overall. Once installation of tiles was actually started I noticed uneven cuts where the tiles met the ceiling plus inconsistency in the layout of the full wall behind the toilet and vanity area and oversized cuts for the plumbing and light fixtures. Certainly not what I had expected after listening to the stories of years of experience from the provider. The uneven cut tiles were redone although some of the plumbing and light cutouts were grouted to hide mistakes. Bench Seat tiles which were removed and replaced were left with chipped tiles and uneven layout. Of course all of this unplanned redoing started to cut into time allowed for completion of the work. With the floor tiles still waiting to be installed, Jim began talking about some type of thin set which would allow him to set and grout the floor in the same day. 24x24 Porcelain tiles. I do spend time on my favorite web site Fine Homebuilding before starting a project. As I told him this was the No. 1 NO to any tile installation. Never install and grout on the same day. 4/15/13 Tile Project completed (or so I thought) Personal Touch was paid in full Glass Shower Door installers come to do their part and unfortunately drill into Floor Heating Cable. Fortunately the manufacturer of the cable FLEXTHERM sold a repair kit and offered excellent customer support. They mailed the kit to arrive the following day and left technician's name and number for any additional support needed. Needless to say the tile covering the cable had to be removed. By this time and past experience we had no desire to have this company return for any work. Turned out after carefully removing the grout from around the 24x24 piece, we were able to remove the tile without damage. After the heating cable was repaired I decided to call other recommended tile contractors in the area. Three reputable/experienced contractors had the same response basically, That if the tile had been installed properly it would have come up in pieces and if that tile was not stuck most probably there were others laid in the same manner. As before I had no desire to call Personal Touch but removing and replacing the tiles was not going to be a small project. I then decided to call Jim to explain the situation. He proceeded to tell me again of his years of experience of laying tile. June 12th, one week later he came out to look at the tiles and walked into the bathroom and repeated his experience story. Along with saying that if the tiles failed he would cover them under his warranty at that time. All the while never once even touching the floor tiles or checking them in any way. I told him he could leave since the trip was a total waste of time. Waiting to replace these Tiles once the bathroom was complete would mean removing Glass Shower Doors, a toilet and a vanity. Last Email received June 25, 2013 Nell,For the record. Damage to the electrical system on the heated floor as per the glass installation voids the warranty of Personal touch ceramic tile. You may still be covered under warranty by flextherm ,the manufacturer of the product. This is not entirely due to the damage during the glass installation but the repairs that were completed by outside sources to the wire system. Removal of floor tile by contractor(s) other than Personal touch also voids warranty on floor tile. Had we been notified of the situation this problem would have been handled quite differently. As for the floor tiles we possess. They will be left at Emser tile at a future date after Wednesday 6/26/13 although I would have gladly installed and or left them with you while I was out to your residence during my initial inspection on June 12th . I will let you know when they are available for you to pick up. Later this week. Jim. I will follow up with flextherm and will send you a complete assessment of their position as well as ours in this matter soon. While I do realize this review is quite different from any others regarding this company, I feel it is important for others to know of all experiences positive or negative. This is the reason I chose to be a member of Angie's List. Attached Photos of back of tiles which were removed.

I must admit I am somewhat overwhelmed but not completely surprised by this review. Although in 27 years of business it is the most disturbing on a few levels. We have a strong reputation for professionalism and quality controls at my company please check my track record here and elsewhere. I employ 3 of the best installers in the industry 27 18 and 30 year experienced tile mechanics respectfully. All of which had hands on experience with this project. We spent three weeks making adjustment and changes to this simple shower wall and floor installation including heated floor. Two of my installers asked to be removed from this project wherein I personally completed. The terms of any agreement I have in my contracts are typically payments made in thirds as three equal installments. The very reason for this is so that everyone has all opportunity to withhold if any circumstance would arise that would warrant such action. The customer was willing in every instance to present payments as worked progressed I firmly believe this was because we addressed each issue of concern and change order she had on nearly a daily basis. Final payment was rendered to me personally upon completion, walk through, and a verbal understanding all was acceptable the Monday following my weekend at their home in order to satisfy the time requirements presented by homeowner. I was then asked to order extra tile as for replacement for her if needed at a later date. Being that this product became discontinued just after initial ordering was in itself another hurdle. Weeks later I received verbal communication that the glass installer had inadvertently drilled through the floor tiles and subsequently through the heated floor wiring system. I was notified of this only after the customer took the initiative to bypass our companies warranty and proceed with heated floor repairs on their own literally, I believe I was told her husband made repairs .My call to inspect came afterwards. This customer asked for me to order tiles for this repair and to come look at her situation. I brought with me tile, adhesive and grout to offer my assistance in replacement. Upon inspection I was told I needed to remove and replace additional tiles as well as fix the ones damaged by homeowner during their own handiwork. I agreed with stipulation to repair the loose tile and grout on the spot but informed her as they took the approach to repair our installed electrical system and tile that I could not warranty the flooring issues moving forward, without direct permission from our heated floor system vendor. I explained that I would contact all parties involved and send an assessment. This made the client livid and I was asked to leave immediately and thanked for all my wasted time. I did give this customer the additional tile she requested and honestly felt the hostility even during this gesture. I will include a link to a product know as speed set which is commonly used in such situations and has been marketed for many years. Apparently this is not something known on her blog site but is an industry standard recommended by the Tile Council of America ANSI standards item with whom I subscribe. I did also speak personally with 2 of her expert tile installers, (the plumbers), about their knowledgeable assessment of my work to which they apologized for stepping out of line. I also chose Angies list as I feel all trades associated with them offer themselves up for fair grading and honest judgment but in this case I feel it has not been at all fairly presented. (link to product suggested to homeowner for repair) http://www.custombuildingproducts.com/products/setting-materials/rapid-setting-mortars/speedset-fortified-thin-set-mortar.aspx

Jim promptly answered my call and showed up on time. Took measurements, outlined process, and we contacted him after searching for tile. He set the date to begin work and gave me option to reschedule after tile company did not order enough product. I elected to start the process while awaiting additional tile, and Jim worked until addtional tile arrived. Overall an excellent job! Very pleased with his efforts and the beauty of the work. Always let me know when he was coming and kept me constantly up to date with the process. Could not be more pleased with the outcome, the price, the quality, or the character of the gentleman. We are already considering tiling a bath based on how smoothly the process went with the kitchen!

Response from Personal Touch Ceramic Tile LLC
(member name removed) were a pleasure to work with.We did however have to reschedule this project due to their material supplier providing natural stone Travertine that was unacceptable to the homeowner. this did set a us into a new time frame were the window of opportunity for the install was one week to complete including us working both Saturday and Sunday to finish and open the kitchen and laundry back up for the customer to use. we talked about tiling the bathrooms upstairs a a later date and I would welcome the opportunity to bring my rating up to solid A with you guys.

We had three companies quote the job after reviewing them on Angie's List. Personal Touch quoted the job very thoroughly, describing the cost of each material independently and segregating labor completely. In this manner, we were able to refine the quote with changes in material or scope. This fact alone made his quote very understandable where others simply quoted price for the entire job. Jim followed up promptly when we were refining the scope of the job. The others were more vague with their quote and one failed completely to follow up. I am not sure exactly where the Personal Touch quote fell among those solicited, but we knew EXACTLY what we were going to get and that is critical. We accepted the final quote and contracted Personal Touch for the job with an agreed upon start time. He and his tradesman showed up exactly when promised and were careful to cover all walkways to minimize dirt and clutter associated with the tear out. As the job progressed, his employee, John, showed up exactly on time and cleaned up well after each day's work was complete. Jim was following up daily and worked with his employee to ensure our satisfaction. The quality of the job when complete was excellent. Jim followed up of every detail and the job was finished without any price escalation, despite some variations in wall construction that existed in our home. Jim and his employee, John, assisted me with decisions concerning my portion of the remodeling job and at times, we worked together toward the completion of the project. In short, we were very pleased with every aspect of the job .
Description of Work: We contracted Jim at Personal Touch to remove an old cultured marble shower and replace it with porcelain tile with a decorative marble mosaic band. This was part of a major master bath renovation, the remainder of which we did ourselves.

It went well and I was pleased with the work. See above for details
Description of Work: I had a kitchen backsplash put up in 2011 and the job was done poorly. I joined Angie's List and found Mr. James Ramsberger of Personal Touch Ceramic Tile and we emailed and spoke. He made a trip to look at the job then provided me with an estimate in a timely manner. We agreed on the date and cost and he did the work. Mr. Ramsberger was prompt, professional and answered all of my questions honestly. He worked well and steadily and cleaned up the mess after completion. I would recommend Mr. Ramsberger and his company and would defintely use him again.

First, let me say that this is a small, sole proprietor company. You're not going to get 3-4 guys in and knocking a project out super fast, nor is he a "Jack of all trades". He's going to quote mainly the tile portion of your job, not much else. What you will get, however, is one person who pays close attention to their work, takes pride in doing it right, is open to input as the job progresses, and is fair. We contacted many companies, and because of positive Angie's List reviews and their prices, we chose Jim with Personal Touch. His quote was thorough, and he got to work within a couple weeks of the quote, not months later. We had already partially-remodeled our bathroom, had granite counter tops put in that match the kitchen, custom cabinets, and I had installed a couple new fixtures myself, but we wanted rid of the builder-grade soaker tub, shower stall insert, and the wall between the two, and wanted tile, a jacuzzi tub, and a frameless glass door around the shower with new fixtures, along with tiling the floor throughout. The job was completed on-time, minus a hiccup with the plumber, which he quickly addressed. A few things along the way, we are HUGE on tile lines and using spacers. A lot of tile people hate the spacers, and think they can lay tile just as good without them. They can't, I don't care WHAT they say. Jim skipped a few spacers here and there and, as a result, we had to pull about a dozen tiles the day after they were laid and re-cut them, which delayed the whole project by a day. Overall, however, once we pointed them out and Jim got over the initial irritation of having to redo some work, he realized we were right on the spacing on those tiles. We are, however, talking about several HUNDRED feet of tile, so to have to re-do 12 out of hundreds isn't a huge issue, and the important thing is that he fixed it, no muss, no fuss. He doesn't do drywall work, but we needed the bathroom painted anyway, so we had painters come in (see our other reviews on them), and they repaired the drywall work that was done from the wall being torn down, switch for jacuzzi tub, etc, and the electrical and plumbing were done with another company he contracted, which he covers under his warranty. The shower looks fantastic, the trim work exactly where we wanted it, the jacuzzi tub is my wife's favorite thing about the bathroom now, and it's done just in time for the company coming this weekend! We're very pleased, thanks Jim for putting up with all our nitpicking, it paid off!

As a courtesy we offer plumbing electrical and other remodeling services to accommodate our customers particular needs. This acts to blanket the consumer and holds them to one contractor to call for service for those projects. We only use licensed electricians and plumbers in most cases and offer these and many other services only on a case by case basis.occasionally issues arise Its how these issues are resolved that matters most.we welcome challenging consumers and projects such as this one was. Our goal is customer satisfaction,on time completion, for a great price and warranty and this will always be delivered . How is the service rated? A. would they use again? Yes. I think that speaks volumes
