Description of Work: Jim did several handyman tasks for me which was good. He diagnosed several problems and gave me advice. The problems I had were because of email communication and not being at home when he did the work. He didn't understand exactly what I wanted. He does not do drywall.

+ -1 moreThe initial job seemed easy enough... remove a light fixture and replace with a ceiling fan. But in an old house (circa 1937), seemingly easy tasks can often turn out more complex. Once Jim had removed the old light fixture, the circuit breaker tripped and wouldn't stay on. He had to climb up in the attic and trace the wiring, isolating what was causing the power problems. It turns out wiring in the box of old light fixture was shorting out, so he fixed those wires. But once the fan was to be installed, he discovered that the fan we had purchased was going to hang too low for the room. He advised to return the fan and pick out one that could be mounted "flush" against the ceiling. Once we got a new fan, he would return to finish the job on another day. Then the next problem... the day before Jim was to return, power went out upstairs and the breaker wouldn't stay on (again). The next day Jim returned and climbed back in the attic to figure out what was causing the problem this time. It turned out that the bathroom fixture also had some bad wiring (aging wires in an electrical box connected to the box that the ceiling fan was going in), causing a short. So Jim replaced that box, and installed a new fixture in the bathroom... and finally hanging the ceiling fan. Days later, everything is working great!

+ -1 moreHe met with us several times before submitting an estimate. We were given the choice of a contract, or time and materials. The latter was his preference, as well as ours. His estimates were accurate. He came when he said he would, and accomplished the projects within the time frame estimated. His work has been reliable and effective. He has provided us with accurate information, and researched methods and material. He has also bee personable, flexible, responsible, and honest.
Description of Work: We've had him repair external wood siding and trim, interior painting, install crown molding, repair a utility sink, install an exterior door, repair ceiling texture, repair skylight, repair exterior windows, repair a gas stove,and install guttering.
