+ 1 moreJim's fantastic and he's on my frequent flyer list now. He's on my caller list when I have issues. He's coming back again probably in the next week or two. He's very reasonable. First of he's very polite and very thorough. He did a fantastic job. He's very trustworthy because I had to leave my house for a little while and came back. I didn't have a choice because I had to leave. He's very trustworthy and just a really nice guy. I just recommended him and in fact I've already given his card out to like three different people. I haven't had any problems. When he widened my door width of course he's had to come back three times because he had to do drywall and it had to dry. He always works it out; he sends me emails and double checks with me the day before its set up. He's always on time. I've just not had any issues with him, he's just been fantastic. I've already got him set up to do more work for me.

I had hoped he could instal a ceiling fan, but after examining the situation, he suggested an electrician, because of the complicated nature of the project.
Description of Work: Painted bathroom including trim and doors, two coats; painted outside trim; replaced fluorescent shop light; improved flow on two toilets, a few other small items.

+ 0 moreRemodeling was done in summer of 2011 and everything finished up in spring of 2013. Between those dates I completely repainted house inside and painted kitchen cabinets (hardest jobs I ever did!). I had to take off in the spring of 2012 due to sciatica problems. I found Jim Mongold on Angie's List during June of 2011. He had excellent reviews although he didn't have as many reviews as some others. I figured I would help him out by using him and giving him another good review. Jim Mongold always came at 9:00 and generally left at 4:00, almost always working unsupervised. He made numerous recommendations to save me time and money. Jim was never tardy, always showed up on the day scheduled, and was a delight to work with. Jim is quiet and has a gentle sense of humor, and he knows what he's doing. I strongly recommend him and intend to use him again when I get ready to remodel my current house.
Description of Work: Remodeled and mondeized entire house-- 1. KITCHEN- Installed new stovetop, oven vent, baseboards, new vinyl rug, ceiling light fixtures. Installed hardware on cabinets and drawers. Fixed leak under sink and replaced rotted out cabinet floor under sink. 2. MASTER BATH- Installed new vanity and mirror, new wallboard, new light, new commode, and new vinyl rug. Tore up old wood floor and put down new floor. Replaced ceiling lamp with new ceiling light. Referred me to Miracle Method to refinish bathtub and tiles (saving me $). 3. HALF BATH- Repaired and repainted ceiling, repainted entire bathroom with primer, installed new vanity and mirror. 4. LIVING ROOM- Replaced hall ceiling light, installed new smoke alarm, repaired large crack in ceiling, after new carpet was installed, shortened doors so they would shut. 5. GREAT ROOM- Removed dated recessed ceiling lights and installed two new light fixtures, removed rotten woof flooring at patio door and installed new wood flooring. 6.MASTER BEDROOM- After new carpeting was installed, installed new closet door. 7. LAUNDRY ROOM- Installed new ceiling light fixtures, vinyl rug, baseboards, and laundry room doors. 8. EXTERIOR- Installed new front door knov, new carport ceiling light, new front porch light, new hinges and lock on crawl space door.

Description of Work: We were looking at remodeling our master bathroom. We gutted the entire bathroom and started from scratch. We called and set up an appointment to have him assist us in getting some things finalized in our bathroom....mainly installing the cabinets. We ended up installing and grouting the tiles on the floor, installing the cabinets and installing the shower basin which eventually would be tiled.

Description of Work: Jim installed two exterior doors one of which had two sidelights and a transom top. Jim also repaired the railing on our deck stairs and repaired part of the soffit above entry door. The installation of the entry door was somewhat difficult as it involved re-using the transom top. The door looks great and works perfectly.

+ -1 moreJim was on-time, courteous, and knowledgeable. This is the third time we've had him to do work at our house. We trust him, and he has done a good job. The dog door looks perfect inside and outside through an exterior wall with no leaks. He was careful enough to give us good maintenance instructions on the front porch railing, and he is very respectful of my property. Also, he will tell you if it is a job he cannot perform, so no worries about getting the job half done. I recommend him.

+ 0 moreThe "pass through" looked excellent. You would never know that it had not been there when we originally bought the house. It really opened up the room and made the look more "up to date". I would highly recommend Jim if you want very good work at a very fair price.
Description of Work: Our home was built in 1998 but it does not have the "open" concept that the newer homes have. So with that in mind, I decided I wanted a "pass through" from the kitchen to the family room that was above the kitchen sink and looked out in the family room. The opening was between two cabinets (kitchen side) and it was a blank wall. Opening would be approx. 36" x 36". Jim responded very quickly when I emailed him originally to see if he could do this work. He came over a day or two later and said he could do it and gave me a estimate of the job and the details of the trim work, painting, wires, etc. He was very professsional and courteous. We agreed on the job/estimate and he set up a time about a week later. Jim arrived promptly at 8 am and was finished around 4:30 pm. It was very neat and clean when he was done.

I like him because he is professional and he is here when I schedule him to be. He does his best to get to me quickly. His prices are awesome. I think he charges $35 an hour. The quality of his work is excellent. I will use him again.

+ 1 moreTo date, everything that I have asked Mr. Mongold to do has been done extremely well and on time. He is a very reliable contractor, and lets you know up front if there are other commitments that he will need to meet at specific times that are near to the timing of your own project, so you can plan ahead.
Description of Work: Jim Mongold has installed specialty insulation - polysio board backed with thermal foil - in the downstairs basement over concrete block walls and in several finished rooms from which 40 year old panelling was removed and the polyiso installed to insulate the inside of the walls. His work appears to be excellent. He is helpful with questions about remodeling and takes pains to point out work that he thinks others might do better than himself (for example, he recommended a professional drywall person do the drywall since that is a specialty product that requires great skill acquired over time with much practice). He is patient with questions about alternatives, and with changes that may occur during the project. He is especially knowledgeable about energy efficient installations and willingly offers to research different product choices in order to enable the homeowner to make the best choice for his or her particular situation. He is trustworthy and honest and provides great attention to the smallest detail, giving the homeowner the pros and cons of every possible choice prior to making a decision. I can't recommend him highly enough.
