Firehouse Chimney & Duct Clean aka Seymour Chimney

Seymour Chimney was referred to us from our HVAC maintenance company. Kent responded to my phone call and we set a date. I needed to follow-up for his second visit but he followed through on his word to return to our residence and complete the job as promised.

Their price was cheap. The person who came out was a fire fighter and he owned the company. He was really fast. He did an excellent job. He cleaned up after himself. He also threw in a chimney cleaning service in that call for us. I would use him again.

They arrived, greeted me and went to work immediately. They did a fantastic job cleaning the chimney and woodburning furnace. Seeing the pictures from inside the chimney was a big help. There was no mess left behind and the fee was fair and reasonable. I will definatly be calling Seymour Chimney Cleaners again next year.

I called Kent on Monday and he said they could be there on Wed during my lunch hour. Kent arrived as stated and setup his work area with blankets and promptly swept the chimney. Upon completion he gave a review of the chimney and gave it a clean bill of health. He also offered some good points on grate placement in the fireplace that would minimize smoke back in the living room. Very knowledgeable and asked the right questions to help determine the work that needed to be performed. Kent was very responsive and was able to do the work on time and with high quality. I will definitely recommend Kent to my friends and colleagues.

Contacted Seymour Chimney Cleaning on a Friday, and they were able to do the work on Monday. They arrived precisely when they said they would and promptly got to work on the chimneys. Incredibly professional and friendly! They did an wonderful job and even vacuumed out the fireplace and woodstove. They spread protective padding around their work-area and were very conscientious about keeping things clean. Overall awesome job - would use them again and recommend to anyone. Great work!

Kent and assistant(?) arrived about noon Wednesday as scheduled Mondaynoon, the first time I had ever contacted him! They worked, one outside atop chimney cap and one inside cleaning firepit/catching debris, cleaning shelf behind damper. Appears to be ready for safe wood fire season!

He covered the floor then he cleaned the chimney and inspected it. He also cleaned the glass on the doors and made sure they operated smoothly.

I was very impressed by the job an the level of professionalism. The two gentlemen that came were very nice and thorough. They used blankets to keep my floor clean, swept out the chimney and vacuumed out all of the soot. He even cleaned the glass door and lubricated the hinges. I would definitely suggest Seymour Chimney Cleaning to anyone with a chimney!

We were told by home home inspector (Paul Edmonson of ATS ... I don't recommend him!) that our chimney was damaged and not safe for solid fuel usage. (It had previously been used for wood logs, but had been converted most recently to gas logs.) This guy came out soon after initial contact, in spite of being far away because he had so much referral business from Chattanooga area that he was able to stack clients to make the drive from Knoxville area worth it. He informed me right away that my chimney did NOT need cleaning, which was consistent to my expectation, and that it was already safe for wood fuel. HE demonstrated the way the flue worked, showed the ash door and discussed cleaning it, and emphasized the need for a fire screen. He talked about the energy losss in flues left open when the fireplace was not in use. He looked at other issues and gave me solid advice on future conversion to wood heat. He replaced my chimney cap and covered an unused chimney and disconnected my gas logs with suggestions for saving and storing for future use. He even looked at my daughters' bedroom windows and offered comments on making fire safety plans, suggestions on drills for the family that would include fire safety ladders, suggestions on training all family members how to be prepared to make 9-1-1 calls, etc. It was very nice to have them there because my daughters are now all gung ho about fire safety and drills! He spent too much time with us for the level of customer we were, but it was very welcome time! And ... one thing I appreciate maybe most of all is that this guy was quite obviously moral and decent as a businessman, but he did NOT use any claims of "trust me, I'm a Christian" to promote himself, his business, etc. I get so tired of those kinds of "Christian" proclamations because they are way too often scheisters or otherwise less than ethical. NOT GOOD! I assumed he was because he acted in that Christ-like manner; that's how Christians SHOULD be identified! After he left, I read his business card, and it did include a scripture quote, so that as the only confirmation that I had on any level of importance his faith had. Cool. THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found this Chimney Sweep company through Angie's List, where the reports were excellent in virtually all categories. I called on a Wednesday and left a message. The owner, Kent, returned my call later the same day, quoted me a price for the work I wanted done, which sounded more than fair so I said let's do it. Two weeks earlier I had met a man with a Chimney Sweep & Repair business, who had given me an estimate that was 40% higher and sounded like there could possibly be additional charges. Kent was able to schedule my sweep for the very next day, which was remarkable since he is essentially a sole proprietor with himself as the only employee, although his father, who started the business in 1983 and has now retired, but will help out occasionally if someone needs service before Kent can get to them. Kent performed the work very professionally including cleaning the exterior chimney, disassembled the interior flues disconnecting them from the wood-burning stove, cleaning both the interior flues and the stove thoroughly and cleaning up everything after his work was complete. I watched and talked to Kent throughout the time he was engaged in his work, asking him many questions about the right and wrong way of operating and caring for my wood stove to ensure against a chimney fire. As his other job is as a fireman in Knoxville, I felt like I was getting advice regarding safe use from perhaps the best possible source. Kent is in every respect a true Gentleman and responsible business owner. The world would be a better place if there were a lot more businessmen like him serving consumers..

Fabulous! We bought a house and had "unknowns" about the fireplace, if the chimney had animal nests or sap in it, and other issues. We didn't know if wood had been used in the past, if the correct type of logs were installed, if the pilot thingy was safe to use, absolutely nothing. A wonderful job done helping us figure it all out, taking care of it, and more. Also did our dryer vent. Wow! I never knew there was so much work involved to do that!! What was icing on the cake were all the safety tips he shared. The coming winter had me very worried because we had a house burn down completely when I was 15--and now we were in an unknown "used" home that we had no idea about. We've been working on incorporating all the safety tips, bringing me much peace and better sleep at night!!! I felt comfortable with him, even though my husband wasn't home at the time. I didn't feel he talked "down" to me as a woman. Very respectful and dignified. Knew what he was doing, and didn't try to "talk big." Out of all the things we need to do to the house, this one worried me the most because it can be a matter of life and death. Thank you, Angie's List!!!

It was a pleasure to deal with Kent. After inspecting our fireplace and flu, he asked if I wanted the good news first or the bad news. The good news was that the fireplace/flu didn't need cleaning. The bad news was that he wasn't going to make any money. (: He was very professional and knowledgeable. Although no cleaning was needed, he spent about 45 minutes giving advice on preventive maintenance and safety matters. Who better to give us advice on fireplace safety than a real fireman! (He's a fireman for KFD.) I will definitely be calling on him again. I did pay him $20 for his time and gas (which was well worth my peace of mind regarding the condition of my fireplace/flu). Kent performed the requested services in a timely manner. He set-up the work area to capture dirt and dust and asked questions to get background information on use of the chimney and previous sweeping. He inspected the chimney and swept from the top. Using a filtered vacuum and appropriate tools, he completed the work on the inside of the house. Kent used all of his own tools including ladder and left everything clean and the way he found it. Nice job!

Kent was courteous and thorough. When he arrived, he inspected the inside of my fireplace and chimney. He cleaned the chimney, which really needed it, as well as the fireplace and the metal screen and glass doors to the fireplace. I am well pleased with the results.

We have just moved to our house in May and didn't know the condition of the fireplace and wanted to have it inspected and cleaned if necessary. Using Angie's list to get a recommended service provider in this area I called Kent with Seymour Chimney Cleaning and he set up an appointment for the 14th. He showed up when he said that he would and inspected the chimney and cleaned the flue and fireplace. Kent took the time to explain the damper cap that had been installed on the fireplace and did a great job cleaning up after himself. The cost was exactly what was quoted. I would recommend this company to anyone.

Last spring, swallows took advantage of a rare occasion when we neglected to close the damper and set up housekeeping in our chimney. After many weeks, the birds finally left and we consulted Angie's List, planning to have a professional remove the nest and clean and inspect everything "sometime before fire season." When I contacted Kent, I left him a message and he promptly called me back that evening. He was able to schedule our chimney cleaning within a week. The morning of our appointment, Kent was held up on a fire call (he's a fireman) but he called to let us know and he arrived at the time he said he would. When Kent and his father arrived, we found them both to be very personable and professional. After going over a brief history of our fireplace, they went right to work and had our chimney cleaned in maybe 20 minutes. Kent went over the condition of our chimney with us, which turned out to be fine and he was done. No mess, no fuss, it was overall a great experience. I was afraid that it would be this big, messy undertaking but it was like they were never here. The fact that Kent is a fireman especially made us feel confident that our chimney is now in a safe, working condition.

We get our chimney swept every two years and have tried every company in town. This has been by FAR the best experience I've had with a chimney sweep. The other guys did a fair job, but really charged for it for being there less than an hour. Kent Lietch of Seymour Chimney Cleaning charged almost HALF what I've been used to paying. He is also the owner and did the work personally. He is also a Knoxville City Fireman so I KNOW when he says the chimney is safe to use I can trust him. He also did NOT try to sell me a bunch of extra stuff. He was efficient, courteous and professional. He's clean-cut and respectful. I would choose him to clean my Mom's chimney. That's how doggone honest he is. Kent really follows the golden rule, to treat others how you would want to be treated. Great business model and he should do well for a long time with that kind of approach. Can you tell I had an excellent experience with this company? I really can't say enough. The job went very well. Kent did a great job of cleaning our chimney and firebox and left absolutely no trace that he had been there. Very personable and professional.

Kent Leitch returned the voicemail I left within a day, and was very adaptable to working with us on scheduling. As it happened, he, due to a previous conflict (ask him what he was doing the week of 9/6/10), was unable to meet our first choice of dates, but did schedule for another date. On the appointed date, Kent realized that he would be arriving a bit late and did phone us to let us know. When he arrived, he was very pleasant and professional. He did an inspection of the fireplace, then went onto the roof to clean the chimney. Coming back inside, Kent brought in an "industrial strength" vacuum with high-efficiency filtration and used this to ensure that no residue from the chimney escaped from the fireplace. The entire process proceeded quickly and efficiently, and the job done was excellent. As other have noted, Kent is a fireman by profession and brings a very safety-oriented view to the job. We have no qualms in recommending Seymour Chimney Cleaning.
