Eric Martin contacted me promptly after I called for an estimate on this work. He was always punctual in replying to my emails and on work days. The work was completed quickly (three days, with some time simply needed for drywall "mud" to dry). The final day involved the majority of the work, and Eric and his assistant worked hard all day. The room was transformed by removing the partial wall and applying a lighter color paint. As Eric had cautioned me, the drywall sanding resulted in a lot of fine dust. I stayed for the day and cleaned as we went along so the final cleanup was not so overwhelming. If you have drywall work done I would suggest having Eric bring (or use your own) shop vac to catch some of the dust as sanding is done. Eric was diligent in completing this work and his sense of humor made for a pleasant work environment. I would call him again for future projects.
Description of Work: Removed partial wall between kitchen and living room. Patched drywall. Repaired other areas where drywall tape was coming loose. Painted living room, kitchen, and entry hall. Caulked at wall/ceiling. Added an electrical outlet. Installed new bathroom fan/light.

Eric did a fantastic job at our house. Remodeled the kitchen, two bathrooms, installed a large porcelain floor on lower level, painted, and built a free standing deck/building outdoors. I was impressed with the fact Eric can do everything: carpentry, electric, plumbing, ceramic...and all was done beautifully. I have recommended him to friends, will continue to recommend him to friends, and I myself wouldn't use anyone else. Thanks, Eric!

He made it safe and usable, and now it looks a lot better, as well. This is just one of many projects Eric has done for me. He has done painting, flooring, drywall repair, trim work and all kinds of odd jobs that I didn't think I could do. Eric is friendly and shows up when he says he will. That's huge to me.
Description of Work: Eric recently revamped a large deck that was poorly constructed.

Eric Martin Remodeling, is a top notch craftsman. We live in Florida and purchased a rehab house in Tennessee as a Seasonal Home. The house needed work from top to bottom and everything in-between. It was great working with 'one' company and the owner being the 'point' person of all communications. You have to love that part. I had over 5 other Angie's list companies bid on the projects Eric Martin Remodeling '''beat them all'''' INCLUDING 'Time' to complete the projects. I can't say enough how happy we are working with him. Our remodeling project is not complete but we are 3/4 the way through. Each project completed has been outstanding. We will Always use this company for anything to do with our home remodeling needs. Our last project is a two car garage so stay tuned.
Description of Work: Eric Martin Remodeling, basically custom built us a home using an existing rehab. They literally did every trade from the Roof, to the basement and everything in-between. As with all Rehabs, many 'surprises' were uncovered but Eric did a wonderful job keeping us within our starting budget, sometimes under correcting these surprises. They performed every aspect of remodeling one would encounter when building a new home. Electrical, Plumbing, Complete new Kitchen installation, New Bath installation, Remodeling existing bath, sheetrock, Knockdown, Crown molding. exterior Siding............I can go on and on on............

Eric, did a fantastic job on the repair of the floor joist's and replacing of subfloor! The very first thing he did was made sure he laid down plastic so as not to damage the floor in other part's of the house. His quote was spot on. Eric was punctual and reliable! My wife and I will definantly use him again!

Eric and his team member showed up right on time when ever he said he would. He is very professional He did a couple extra items (move the electrical box) and did not charge me extra. He did a great job, was reasonably priced and completed his work on time with no extra charges. I would not hesitate to call him whenever I need help. He is also a very nice guy.

I can't say enough great things about the work that Eric completed today! He built a 20-step staircase in my garage for easier access to my bonus room. The steps look like they were part of the house plan...his attention to detail is so refreshing! They cleaned the garage at the end of each of the three days and left the worksite spotless. I have already asked him to complete a couple more projects for me.

Job went beautifully. Eric and his assitant showed up on time, worked pretty diligently, kept me apprised of their progress, finished in a good time-frame, and cleaned up after themselves before they left. Price was good. Even added a couple jobs on the fly and he charged us a VERY reasonable price for the extra stuff. To sum up, Eric's a terrific guy to get to do remodeling work and will use him again the next time we need something done.

Today Eric Martin completed our kitchen remodel. We had him remove a wall to open up the kitchen to the living room, and created an island. We found him to be a true professional. His kept to his estimate, and we are very happy with the finished product. We have two children under 3 years old and we were worried about them getting into trouble during the renovation. Eric and his team cleaned up after they left and made sure the stove/microwave were usable through out the renovation. He was able to match our textured ceiling with such skill. We added a backsplash to our project last minute and he completed this also, paying attention to detail. We were new to the remodeling experience, and he was able to walk us through the process without any concerns. We are thankful for his expertise. We would no question recommend him to others, and if we are in need of any help in the future we will call Eric Martin Remodeling.

This is our third large remodel using Eric Martin and we wouldn't think of using anyone else. We purchased another vacation rental home that needed extensive repair and remodeling. All work is professional, done timely and Eric is a pleasure to work with. We have hired Eric to re-do work done by other contractors in the area as it was done improperly. We first hired Eric to do a complete remodel of our home on Douglas Lake, and we lived in Florida at the time. To have a contractor that you can trust doing extensive remodeling when your so far away is a godsend. Especially after being taken by another contractor. We had Eric build us a beautiful large dock at this house this spring. He also put a new metal roof on our other vacation rental, as well as added a large deck and sliding doors, hung crown molding and textured ceilings. Both my husband and I have 50 years combined experience as Commercial Property Managers and over saw millions of dollars in construction in our careers. We know how hard it is to find contractors that you can trust, are professional and do excellant work in a timely manner. We highly recommend Eric and he will continue to be our contractor of choice.

We hired Eric at the end of November 2012 to finish the basement of the house we had recently moved into. The basement had been partially framed and plumbing was in for a three piece bath. We asked Eric to complete the basement so that it would have a family room, library with floor to ceiling custom bookcases, bedroom, bathroom, small wine cellar, and a stained concrete floor. We were quite open to any suggestions Eric had and we are very pleased with his ideas. The basement turned out beautifully. Eric can do pretty much anything but his strong suit is definitely cabinet making. We had originally just thought of having bookcases in the library but Eric suggested that we also do a custom built-in on a wall in the bedroom which looks great and is a perfect focal point. The bookcases are lovely with open shelves on the upper portion, closed cabinets on the bottom and a built-in desk with drawer. Eric also had a great vision for the wine cellar (which was built into a small storm shelter). The wine storage can hold nearly 400 bottles of wine and has a glass-door cabinet to hold glasses and other accessories. One issue we did have was with the stained concrete floor. Although Eric did all the testing necessary to make sure the stain would work and that the floor did not have a sealer on it, the stain never soaked in the way it was supposed to. The sealer just sat on the surface of the floor and resembled paint. After Eric was finished with the remodel, we began to notice that the stain was peeling off the floor in several places and just did not turn out the way we wanted it to. We asked Eric to come out and he agreed that the floor was not up to his standards. When we told Eric we would just rather have a tile floor put in, he generously agreed to provide the labor for free. He just recently finished the tile and it looks fantastic. In addition to the basement, we also had Eric do a few other odd jobs, such as wiring a light fixture in our keeping room and repairing some mortar on the exposed brick in our kitchen.

Eric arrived on time and began work installing backsplash returning the next day to finish the grout work. Excellent workmanship and the backsplash is beautiful, just what we wanted. We were very pleased with Eric's work and decided to use him to build bookcases for each side of our fireplace. When he delivers and installs these bookcases we are sure they will be beautiful also.

Eric left our remodel unfinished. This was after his employee poured a concrete porch and obviously unleveled step while Eric went out of town on a Friday. When Eric returned on Monday he acknowledged the problem, whacked on the step with a sledge hammer and talked with me. When he left I was assured he he would be back and fix the problem with the step and complete the rest of the work. That was five months ago. In the first few weeks after the concrete mess I talked with Eric twice but since he had left our project repeatedly to do other jobs I still expected him to return. Our job was started a week before Thanksgiving and should have been completed by the end January to "ready to paint stage" even with a hiatus at Christmas. The only exception the outdoor storage building due to weather issues. Eric kept starting more parts of the renovation without completing things and leaving our job to do others. We paid as asked to until we only owed Eric very little. The last large payment was just before the concrete had to be delivered. We trusted him although we had not been treated as if there was any importance to his job at our house. Our job is still incomplete. We are contracting out our own small jobs now and essentially double paying for the work left unfinished or needing to be redone. Eric is an excellent framer. We are happy with his removal of the wall and building of trusses although we had expected placement of a support beam instead of trusses. We are very happy with the storage building except for lack of ramp and concrete block and stuff piled around building and covered with dirt. Below I have listed what we have had redone and what remains to be completed. 1) We had an excellent stonemason come in and remove the stone Eric put on the house with the wrong kind of mortar and the "wrong method" of laying stone on the house. Eric had completed about one fifth of the stone work on the front of the house. 2)We had a concrete contractor come in and replace the step and dress the honeycombing on the porch where it had not been properly tamped and bull floated. A engineer friend told me that it was too thin. The wheelbarrow full and the pile of concrete raked off the truck shute into a big pile in our front yard would probably have brought it to the nominal thickness recommended. 3)We had our plumber come in and reworked some of the plumbing. He said bluntly the contractor "did not know what he was doing with plumbing". 4)The hardwood floor had to be replaced where wall was removed and that was done by a young man Eric fired in December. The company that put the floors in gave us the name of someone to remove and replace the floor planks that he had splintered and forced in so that here is a little peak in the middle. Apparently all he had to do was plane down a little high ridge down the two by four from removed wall before putting in new hardwood planks. 5)We had someone look at our sheet rock. He can fix the wall that was"short cut" by adding a metal corner on the top half of wall, sand and patch the holes they left with the saws-all in wall behind bathroom in laundry room. He can't do anything about the over application of mud to the ceiling where wall was removed unless he re-does entire ceiling (was three rooms now one) Walls need a lot of sanding and leveling out. (When I asked Eric why Pablo was not sanding between layers he told me, "Pablo is so good he doesn't have to sand until final coat." I wouldn't have asked if I hadn't been concerned with the ridges and bumps getting thicker and more obvious with each coat of mud. We have the following unfinished work/problems: 1)Have to get an electrician. We have no electricity to plugs in new living room wall, new closet and old hallway. 2)Wired for but not installed front porch light. 3)Re-hang some of the moved wood work. (Woodwork was reused so expected some problems but didn't expect big gaps, etc.) 4) 4)The concrete ramp for the storage shed was not put in. (The first wheelbarrow of concrete was abandoned half way to the shed from the truck.) 5)All of the construction debris from shed was piled around base of shed in mounds and they started covering it with dirt.. I asked it to be removed but it was left. 6) The second time I pulled a towel off the new towel rack installed in family bath the end cap flew up in the air toward me and the towel bar dropped to the floor. Inspection showed the end cap frame was screwed in about three sixteenths of an inch too close to other end cap i.e. too short for towel bar which had been forced in and placed under pressure. When the towel was pulled on the pressured end cap popped up in the air. There are lots of other small irritating problems we have been working out. I have taken five and a half months since Eric abandoned us avoiding writing a review because it would be bad but Angie's list does keep requesting evaluations and I keep thinking of others who may fall into the trap. Construction trash and their personal trash was left around our house for weeks sometimes. I cleaned up much of their personal trash. Caring for a both a cancer patient and an alzheimers sufferer is enough without dealing with extra work I had due to their poor work site habits. The worst has been the white sand everywhere I am still vac out of crevices because they did not cover openings/door ways to rooms they were sanding. You said you wanted all of the details. Here are a lot of the details but ...
Description of Work: Eric built an outdoor storage building. He removed a weight bearing wall and built trusses to support instead of placing a beam. He removed and replaced bathroom doors with 36" doors to accommodate mom's walker. He removed and replaced a bathtub with a bathtub and replaced another bathtub with a walk-in shower along with some related sheetrock replacement and repair. He framed in a new walk-in closet with related sheetrock work and electric work. He relocated the front door opening to a former window space and put in a new front door, removed the old door and closed opening. He enlarged the front porch pouring a new concrete slab top and step.

It didn't go well because he never bothered to send the estimate or return a phone call after coming to look at the bathroom tile job. It was small and I understand if he didn't want to do it however communication is always best. I don't feel he deserves an A on Angie's List.
Description of Work: We called the provider for an estimate back in the spring (therefore I do not have the actual date of when he came to the house). He showed up earlier than the scheduled time which did not bother me at all however he never gave us an estimate. He gave us his card and got our email. He said he would email an estimate. He never did. We called several times and got no return phone call. I wasn't going to write a review but I got on here to look for another provider and this one popped up with an A. It was work that I was very excited about having done and he didn't have the courtesy to tell us he wasn't interested in the job. It was a small bathroom tile job and probably not the most lucrative however communication of his choice to not do it would have been nice.

It went smoothly & I would rehire Eric & his crew any time. I was not here for the remodel but gave Eric keys to the condo & they were very honest & trustworthy.
Description of Work: Eric did a remodel for a condo that we own in Knoxville in the Fort Sanders area. He gutted the bathroom, built a tiled walk in shower, new vanity, new mirror, new medicine cabinet, repaired the dry wall, painted walls, added breadboard w/chair rail trim, new light, new shower fan, tiled the floor. It looks wonderful. In the kitchen he tiled the floor, added a tile backsplash, new counters, new sink, new light. He also replaced the light in the dining area & hall. This was a rush job to do within 8 days before our son returned to summer school. Eric completed the job on time. He also had a great tile guy, plumber & electrician to help with issues that arose during the remodel. I was out of town & Eric handled all problems that came up. I supplied all materials except the countertops. The price is for labor only.

We were very pleased with all of the work that Eric and his employees did for us. They repaired several things in our home as we prepared to sell and move. They repaired several holes in our ceiling and did a great job with the sheetrock and matching the finish with the rest of the ceiling. They were very clean, covering all our walls and furniture, vacuuming up all the dust and putting everything back where it belonged. Eric is professional and his prices were reasonable. We were pleased that he didn't mind doing several small projects as well as the larger ones. We plan to use their services once we move into our new home.

Overall, the project was very well planned and the carpentry and finishing were done professionally with excellent workmanship. The only difficulty encountered was a brief one-week delay in delivery of the floor trusses by the vendor, which was beyond Eric Martin's control. To his credit, Eric and his work partner were still able to make up time on the schedule and completed the project within a day of the original targeted completion date.
