Cory was very responsive to calls and emails and has accommodated all of my requests, such as edging the beds. I really like that I can email him requests and he takes care of it.

Overall, it went well, and I do plan to use Grassy Roots again this spring to work on my irrigation system and probably plant replacement trees. Rice was easy to work with and was very helpful with obtaining a landscape plan. The men who did the job of pulling out the bushes and trees worked efficiently and cleaned up the yard after doing alot of work. The only down side was some confusion about price. After I received the original estimate, I asked about getting rid of the tree stumps in the back. Rice said it could be done, asked how many needed to be done, etc. He did not give me an additional cost and mentioned it may be able to be done under the previous quote. However, when I received the final bill, there was additional cost. It was not outrageous or anything. Just frustrating that I did not know about it before the work was done.

This was our first time using Angie's List for a referral and we are impressed. The referred company owner called a few minutes after I left a voice message and provided a competiitve quote and within a few hours the stump was ground as requested...the same day service was very impressive. The owner followed up with a courtesy call. We reported totally satisfaction all the way around. Thank you Grassy Roots Landscaping and Thank you Angie's List for the high quality referral! This was definitely the easy button!

The quality of the work is excellent. The cost of the work is fairly high. Their attention to detail and confidence is good. I am generally satisfied with them. They are definitely prompt and professional.

It all started with one of those Angie's LIst special deals for a landscape plan in 2011. Rice Pierce and his son Max came out and met with me in the late summer, I think, to talk about ideas they had for the yard and about the company and their philosophy. I was impressed with both of them and their creativity and low pressure. I got pretty excited right away to get started. The landscape architect they work with came next and drew up a beautiful plan, (which was what I had paid for originally in the Angie's list deal), and it is suitable for framing it's so pretty. Then life sort of happened and I didn't really get back with them until the next February. We decided to split the work/plan into 2 phases, with the 1st (the one that finished in November) to be the sort-of canvas...the drive, the beds, the walk, moving the existing plants, etc...The next phase, due to start in the next couple of weeks, will be even more fun, (and of course more money! eek!), and will be the new plants, another walk, pretty stuff. I have enjoyed every minute of it so far. All the Grassy Roots people have been just a pleasure to work with and have around, especially Cody, our job site manager (I believe that would be an accurate title), and Sam, the driveway guy, (not a technically correct term, but I don't really know my heavy machinery). Very few problems, and what there have been, they have bent over backwards to fix, quickly. And the yard looks beautiful already, and we are really enjoying our new drive and walk. We get complements on that walk all the time. I can't wait to see how the rest is going to look when it's finished. And no, it's not cheap, but hey, you get what you pay for...and they guarantee everything (as long as we do our part and water!), and they really seem to be just as excited and interested in how everything turns out as the customer is! That makes such a difference!. I'm really glad I found Grassy Roots. Thanks Angie's LIst!

Unfortunately, we were not able to proceed with implementing the plan after receiving the estimate service, due to the economy and that disposable income is less available with more being taken from payrolls. But we do feel the services provided under this particular offer were well met and most satisfactory.

I have nothing but the highest praise for the team. They were professional in communication and proficient in their work. They cleaned up after themselves every day. The neighbors marveled at their work. Michael Tanton (the foreman) and Rice's son Max were responsive and courteous on every call I made. They are still doing work and, as guaranteed, have replaced plants that died along the way. The business is growing rapidly and I can see why. The work on my house was extensive and expensive, but I believe they carry the same attitude and work ethic on smaller projects, too.

I was happy with all ofthe work completed by Grassy Roots. Rice was very responsive when I first contacted him about service. He and Max continued to respond well and act quickly for as long as I used them. We have since moved out of state, and that's the only reason I'm not using Grassy Roots today.

They were very creative with the plans for our yard. I really liked that they did not pressure us very much to use their services after receiving the plans.

They are pretty good. They are very quick on the billing, but sometimes a little late on the cut.

They responded to my call immediately, came by the the 1st house in two days to give us a quote and did the same when we moved across town to another leased house. They took care of problems and when the drought hit and the home's irrigation was not working properly, they skipped cutting several times to avoid hurting the grass. They e-mailed me each time. Of course this meant they skipped revenue to make sure the lawn was properly cared for. This is a rare trait.

The owner was friendly, professional and on time to first visit.He did seem to take great pride in his work and suggested soil prep before any planting - very knowledgeable and friendly.His fee proposal was fair.I expect the actual work would be very well done, however, I would probably not use them again because we really need some major design help with our yard and I don't think they offered anything beyond some minor additions to our existing yard.

I called for an estimate and did receive a response that the company had a lot of customers. I appreciated the fact that I was called and told that the business did not want to overextend itself and not provide the best service possible. I can definitely understand that. I found another lawncare service; however, I have no problems with Grassy Roots and would consider using them in the future.

I don’t have a contract, I pay them depending on the work they do and I get a monthly invoice. If it is just the mowing, it is $50. My overall experience with them has been excellent.

He asked me to email him about what I was looking to get done and my address, which I did. I got an email response that he was just too busy doing larger jobs and didn't have time to fit me in. I've worked in the service industry for 25 years, if you are that busy, hire more help or connect with a smaller company you can make referrals to. Geez. I felt like my job wasn't big enough for him to bother with so I will not be calling these folks again. There are plenty of companies out there who want to work and who rely on great referrals!

They use only natural and organic substances. This makes them a little more expensive though. They're extremely responsive and very professional.

Called them, they gave me an estimate and cut my lawn. Not really that complicated, and they use paypal for payment.

Rice Pierce is the owner. They did not charge me for the quote. I will not use them in the future.

I called Grassy Roots Landscaping and described my needs and set up an appointment to survey the work to be done. They sent someone to size up the job and then the owner followed up with a more detailed suggested plan. They then emailed me a drawing of the proposed new layout of my new front yard with an estimate. The price exceeded my original planned budget, but I agreed to go forward and the quality of the work they did was well worth every dollar. I needed my walkway completed by Halloween and they worked overtime to insure that it was done on time in a professional manner and the results were great. I later needed to have a yard swing replaced and they installed a concrete foundation to insure its solid placement. They removed some invasive trees, replaced and augmented bushes and monkey grass and even re-poured the concrete footings for the swing at no charge to improve the level horizon to its placement. I will continue to call Grassy Roots Landscapes for my future landscaping needs. Thanks you Angie's List.

Since I moved into my house in April 2008, the lawn had gotten worse and worse until it was a patchy mess of weeds with some completely bald spots of dirt. I knew that eventually I would want to do a complete overhaul of the yard. I contacted Rice because of his high recommendations on Angie's List and he came out to meet me (and my fiancee) and take a look at the yard. He showed a real enthusiasm for landscaping and a commitment to creating something that really suited our personalities, taste, and budget. It turned out that we really leaned on him for providing guidance on what exactly to do with the yard, not having a very specific idea of what to do with the flower beds in particular, but I could tell that Rice would also respond very well to someone with a more concrete direction in mind. He was patient and answered all of our questions, and together we came up with a plan to completely redo the lawn and front flower beds. Rice operates in an extremely environmentally-friendly way, using natural / organic products that are safe for children and pets. This aspect of the service was not particularly important to me personally, but I viewed it as a reflection of his commitment to creating a long-term solution for us that would be self-sustaining and appropriate for this area (in contrast with the service that I would expect from a national-chain provider which might not be so personalized to our needs and environment, nor as dedicated to minimizing the amount of future maintenance required). We started with a process called "solarization" in which heavy black plastic was put down to cover the entire front yard. It stayed there for a long time during the summer (maybe 6-8 weeks?) while the ground underneath literally baked all of the grass and weeds deep below the surface. Our lawn looked very strange during this time and I'm sure the neighbors thought we were crazy. Then, Rice's crew came out and installed the irrigation system. Once that was in place and everything was working, they put down sod and overseeded the lawn. They also installed the plants and trees in our flower gardens. Almost overnight the front lawn was transformed and immediately looked incredible. It stayed lush and green all winter long and we can't wait for everything to start blooming this spring. We have gotten numerous complements from our neighbors about the yard. Rice and his crew have been very supportive throughout this project. They are all very knowledgeable and thorough when explaining things and recommending additional services. Although we made a very significant investment, I feel like the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the service.

They are flexible and adaptable. They are generally affordable.

I first contacted Grassy Roots after receiving an Angie's List "Big Deal" email from this company. I purchased the big deal special and was soon contacted by a representative from the company. We set up an appointment to work up a landscaping scheme for my yard. He explained what they do and that they specialized sustainable eco-friendly landscaping. The first thing that I wanted done was to have several trees removed from the property. A couple were nearly dead and a couple were threatening to the house if by chance a severe storm (like the ones we have had as of late) were to knock these trees into my house. Anyway, I was given an estimate that included cutting the trees down, removal of the debris, and patching up/ cleaning up after work is completed. The estimate seemed fair and they began work a few days after that. All of the workers were courteous and friendly. It took all of 2 and a half days to get the trees down and carted off. It took another few days to to finalize the stump grinding and yard cleaning etc.. They made great efforts to make sure that everything was back to normal and as polished as possible. I am looking forward to working with further in the future for the rest of the landscaping...

Grassy Roots did a fantastic job. They were very timely, communicated, well, did exactly what they promised, and charged me a reasonable price (as estimated) for all of it. I would definitely use them again.

I found Grassy Roots through Angie's list. I had a lawn service that provided the minimum, but the owner never seemed to see my lawn himself and I never received recommendations, even when they would have been revenue opportunities. I asked for an estimat from Grassy Roots and Rice, the owner, visited my property and had lots of recommendations about how to nurse the lawn back to life. He is very helpful and honest when discussing lawn options here in Middle TN and he responds very quickly once a decision is made. He gets my strongest recommendation and will be taking over regular care of my lawn!
