I called two of the Angie's List hardwood all stars. Midtown returned my call right away. They were very professional and personal. It was a small job, and yet they arranged their schedule to meet me later that morning to look at the job. The estimator was great. He made sure that we communicated about every little detail - but in a way that was not burdensome. They have clearly done this before! Anyway, the price was fair. We cleared the rooms, and they did the work the following week while my wife and i were out of town. My son gave them access to the house. I was a little nervous because my son is in college. His schedule is pretty tight, so we needed the crew to be there on time. They were spot on every day. They did a great job. I understand from my son that there was very little dust. They were quick and efficient. We were not in town to approve the stain. I told the estimator that I trusted him to match the stain as close as possible to a floor previously done in another room. They did a great job matching the stain. We had two old floor furnaces that had to be patched over, and you cannot tell they were every there. There were also 4 floor registers from an old central air unit that they patched perfectly. We paid them 50% before they started the work. I got in town a week after they finished, and they were very kind to wait for their check until I returned to personally inspect the floor. A+ and four thumbs up on these guys.

Bill was very prompt in getting out to quote on replacing our carpet with hardwood. After he left, we decided to also have Bill quote on an additional hallway, and once again he was very prompt getting out to re-quote. As far as the work, one word, FABULOUS. The quality of the work far exceeded my expectations. When Bill came out, he answered all of our questions and then some. It is very obvious that Bill's crew takes great pride in the work they do. He also suggested using Greer Company for the wood, and they also were very helpful in answering questions we had on the various woods. I strongly recommend them as well. I want to personally thank everyone with Midtown Hardwood and Tile, from Carol in the office who answered my wife's questions and got the quotes to us in a timely manner, Bill who supervised the installation from start to finish, and especially the installers who did such a professional job. Job well done!

Smooth as silk. Very responsive the entire way (including a minor repair). The floors are absolutely GEORGEOUS!!

They were very accommodating. They did the work on the exact dates I had asked for. There was a misunderstanding about the stain, but when I called them informing about this, they promptly scheduled my job again. They re-sanded the floor without the dust and completed everything to my satisfaction.

Last week I called to ask for an estimate on repairing some water damage, and the owner's wife was very nice and knowledgeable in that she said that perhaps what I considered to be the cause of the leak was perhaps not correct. Anyway we set up and appointment for the next day, but her husband, Bill, ended up getting stuck on a job and could not make it. She called and told which was fine, and I thought, indicative of the excellent reports I had read about them on Angie's. So we set a firm appointment for today (Tuesday 8/30/2011) . Well, Bill didn't show, AND I did not get a call. Like everyone else, I changed my schedule to accommodate a service call, and it was a total disappointment plus a huge dose of aggravation. I can only guess why the appointment was not kept, but it's purely speculation. I intend to move to my second on the list to see if perhaps that company will be more responsive.

Bill and his crew did an outstanding job with a challenging project. They were able to install the flooring I purchased with very little waste, even though the old home's walls and doorways are way out of square. The refinishing work done to the 100 year old quartersawn oak stair treads is amazing- they were faded and dull before and Bill brought them back to life!

The floors turned out beautiful and I am very pleased with the work. Bill and his team were professional and courteous. Very helpful, including helping to move some additional furniture back into the house after the floors were done when our moving dollie broke. They did tell us up front that some stain would get on the floor board molding, but that was vey minor to what I was expecting, requiring minor touchup. Only negative was they were not as prompt to the job site on a few days, and we had arranged to have someone at our house to be there longer than needed.

They were very upfront with me about my options. I originally wanted laminent flooring and they told me the positives and negatives and the price was not any different. They also steered me away from Lumber Liquidators because of the problems that they had with the product and having to fix problems others had had from them. If you take the name for what it is it makes since. They got the job done quickly once they got on it. They were late from another job the first day but where done just after lunch the next day. They were very clean and tidy. The second day it was raining and had to travel through another part of my house and put pads down to walk on and not get those areas dirty. The only other problem I had is they did not mention having to need shoe molding in the walk through with Bill or in the estimate. Because they had left off the shoe molding I only paid for the material. I have more flooring I am going to put in my house that I am breaking up into 2 more jobs and will use them again and anymore that I do.

The 2 man Team showed up promptly to begin work on agreed upon date. Job was started on a Tuesday and completed on a Thursday. The employees refinishing the floors were prompt to work every day and respectful. they took all precautions for dust containment and it was minimal. I've had issues with other refinishers marring other woodwork with heavy cords and machinery. I had no such issues with Bill and his crew. Had very small issue with communication due to another big job they had going on so on the last day when we arrived home we had no idea if the job was completed or if we could walk on floors since no one was there and no one contacted us to give us an update. I used common sense that since all equipement was gone that they must be through and that the floors must have be safe to walk on. Overall a good experience with good quality work. Price was competitive and Bill was very knowledgeable about flooring, wood and his job in general. I would use them again and recommend them to friends.

The estimate included cost of the products so I did not have to shop. They brought samples directly to me which was very convenient. The installers were excellent. Although the complete job took a little longer it was worth it.

Day one-Thursday- floors were sanded and stained by 5:00 (strong smell). Day two-Friday- first ply coat at 8am, second around 1pm, and third coat done by 5 p.m. We moved furniture back on the floors morning of day 3, Sat. (no smell from the water based finish). In all, it only took 48 hours, and we were moving furniture back on our floors. I had practically no dust to clean up at all! Bill was great from the moment he came to my house until he called me for the final follow-up at 8a.m. Sat morning. When he came for the estimate, he answered ALL of my questions. He was very patient and kind. He was on site for a lot of the work, even doing some himself, in addition to the work done by his workers, who were also professional. Finally, he called me to go over cleaning and care instructions 12 hours after the entire process was complete. Also, his office manager, Carol, does most of the correspondence with you once you get Bill to come out and give the estimate. I emailed her back and forth multiple times. She got back to me immediately about every question and/or change I wanted to make to my order/estimate. She was king, patient, and professional as well. As far as the price goes, Bill beat out another place I had to also give me an estimate, but his estimate was close to the other. But Bill's knowledge, professionalism, and their company's punctuality actually won me over. The only downfalls I see to the process are two: First, the stain smell is a bit strong. Be prepared to have your windows open for a while. I kind of like the residual smell, because it smells like new construction. I know for some, though, the odor may be bothersome. Secondly, if you don't choose to remove your trim, it will have stain on it by the time they are through, so you will have to repaint. Bill warned me of this, so it is of no surprise. We have chosen to ignore it for now! We don't want to get paint on the beautiful floors. Excellent experience. We WILL have him do the rest of our house one day!

The job was great from beginning to end. Bill came out to provide a quote two days after we called him (on a Saturday morning, for our conveneience). He really listened to us, he is very positive, and he quoted exactly what we wanted (refinishing of existing floors). We changed our minds and opted for a full replacement of the floors a few days later, and he and Carol re-quoted the job in great detail and without any annoyance or negativity. They charged us exactly what they quoted us, to the penny. There were no hidden charges, and the quote was nicely itemized. They also invited us to go down to their supplier and pick from nearly infinite options of flooring so we got exactly what we wanted. Midtown has a full-time salesman at the supplier that answered all of our questions, was very honest with us, and absolutely did not pressure us in any way. He was a pleasure to work with. Midtown scheduled the service on the exact date we requested, and they showed up promptly and ready to work. Bill and two other men showed up on the first morning (not subcontractors - his employees), and when I came home from work, the demo was completely finished, my counters, etc. were carefully covered in plastic, and my home extremely clean. The house was locked up, and all trash was removed. They returned the next day and finished putting down the floors. They replaced all shoe molding, re-caulked, and cleaned up very well again. They even left me half a box of flooring in case we ever need to make any repairs. They replaced my furniture without scratching or damaging the floors (even a piano), and Bill even special ordered a piece of hickory trim halfway through the job. Overall, the job was smooth, easy, exactly what we wanted, and Bill and Carol were extremely flexible and easy to work with. I am very hard to please.

Outstanding experience. Very knowlegable. Explained the process in detail. Final bid received by email in timely manner . Arranged starting time over email. Arrived on time first day as planned. Completed 90% of sanding on day 1. Day 2 we we picked stain. They finished a portion of the floor and looked at 3 stains we had chosen. Day 3 stain applied.2 Coats poly applied on Day 4 (water based). We were on the floor on day 4 as outlined in original plan. Work was completed on time. Workmanship was very high. Cleaned up each night. Very little dust for the type of work performed (yes dust but very manageable). Very responsive to all calls over the course of the work. Finished work looks great. Final walk-thru performed, wood floor care explained. They care about their work.

He was awesome. He fixed a side of the flooring after the job was done. I would definitely recommend him. He was very knowledgeable. The guys were very professional. He has three guys that work for him. He was very, very good.

Bill was very professional. He was concerned about doing the job "the right way". The workers were pleasant, prompt and cleaned up after themselves.

His work is excellent and he is very knowledgeable in his trade. All of the floors are beautiful and I would use him again in a heartbeat.

Bill came out, did a thorough walk through, explained options and timing. Within 24 hours, we had a very reasonable estimate. He and his team stared the next day and were completed in two days. In one bedroom, I asked that they touch up an area that needed additional attention. The previous owners had not taken care of the hardwood floors. They took care of the problem and now all the floors look great. I would highly recommend them!
