Description of Work: Pella provided a slider door with adjustable blinds and UV coating to replace a French door in master bedroom. It was part of R&R due to termite and water damage left unaddressed by previous owner. The cost for the removal of the old door, securing the opening, the new door and install was around $2500 and the balance was removing the termite damaged door frame and replacing with boreated wood, new sheetrock, trim and paint. Pella and my carpenter, Ted Raby, worked closely with one another and the project was completed in 3 days. Waiting for the custom door took about 5-6 weeks however.

Description of Work: They replaced all the original aluminum-clad windows in our 1954 house with double-pane insulated windows. Pella windows are top quality. They are very energy efficient and have reduced road sounds in the house. Pella's installer was very professional. He saved and used our marble window sills and did an outstanding job taking our the old windows, installing the new windows, framing the windows, caulking, etc. We were extremely pleased with the installation process and have continued to be extremely pleased with our Pella window. We had previously had Pella windows in a custom house we had built 30 years ago and knew the top quality to expect. They are definitely worth the money.

Description of Work: Approximately five years ago, I had all the windows plus the front door replaced by Pella. The new Pella windows and door each came with a multi-year warranty on the product, but not the labor to install any replacement parts that were necessary after the first two years. The glass in the front door developed a dirt-like film between the panes which was very evident when the afternoon sun shone through the window. It was VERY difficult to contact anyone about the problem. I called the Knoxville office on several occasions, got a voicemail system, left my contact information, and explained the problem and asked them to contact me. No one returned my call. I finally called the local Pella installer, who contacted the sales person in Knoxville, who then contacted their service scheduler, who finally called me a week later. A service appointment was scheduled for about six weeks later. The repair person arrived on time and finished the job in about an hour, replaced the window portion of the front door. Cost of the labor to replace the window panel was $150. He had the correct part and was very professional. Main issue is the difficulty of contacting anyone in the Knoxville office regarding repair needs.

The company told us that their employees would complete the work The installers were sub contractors ( they did a good job) a screen for a large window did not fit, it took over a year and the involvement of the corporate office to get the screen replaced. and it took two attempts at getting it right. Local company had very poor customer service

They have come out quite well. The first project had no problems and the second had very minor ones. They show up when they say they are going to show up, do what they say they will do, and you get the product they say they will provide. They did a fine job! If we had the occasion, we would certainly call them back again!
Description of Work: We have had two projects that they have done for us. They first installed a big slider door with sidel ights and a standard french door. They also completed a very large window project on our porch. They were modifying the size of the window openings to ensure it was maintenance free.

The initial sales/order process of windows went fine until the windows were delivered damaged and refused. When you pay $13,100.00 for windows, you expect a quality product especially with the name Pella on the windows. This is not what we received. Pella claimed that we were being too picky with quality and there was nothing wrong with the windows. They asked us to pick up the windows from the distribution center in Knoxville. They paid for a rental truck. We had to take a day off of work to go back and take a look at the windows under better lights. Upon re-inspection, our opinions did not change. The damage we inspected ranged from holes in the window sash, broken nail in flanges, scrapes/gashes on the windows, dented screens, rubber part next to the glass and vinyl part of window falling out, etc. We attempted to install the windows that were not damaged only to discover that they were not measured correctly by the Pella rep. Rather than admitting fault, they wanted us to pay for more the window installer to cut down all moldings and/or install a 1" board on the exterior of our home to account from the wrong size. This was not an option as we have trim around the windows and the appearance would be unsightly and to have someone remove all the molding to rip them down would cost twice as much in installation, which we felt was not our issue since they measured the windows and knew the depth required. We tried to work with Pella on solutions; however, the sales rep, Richard Passmore, became unprofessional and in my opinion ethics/morals may not have been intact. As a resolution, all the Pella windows were picked up and fully refunded by Pella, which we are pleased with considering the quality of the highest grade Vinyl window (25 series) that you can purchase from them. I understand that if you purchase the Pella wood windows, they are still a quality product, but I cannot recommend the vinyl window and/or Pella due to the sales rep that I worked with. Maybe if you have a different rep, you might have a better experience. Best of luck on quality if you purchase vinyl windows from Pella!
Description of Work: Pella sales rep came to home to review window options. Pella sales rep returned to home with a person to measure for windows. Pella sales rep provided quote for windows and placed window order after quote signoff and down payment was received. At this point, I worked with corporate office to coordinate delivery of Pella windows and final payment. Windows were delivered and upon delivery inspection, 22 out of 36 windows were damaged and returned to Pella.

The good: Overall this job went smoothly. The sales staff was patient through a lengthy evaluation of other vendors & installers, and priced the job several ways. Order and install scheduling and communication was handled quickly and clearly. The product arrived on time (or a bit early - I can't remember) and install started promptly. The installer was courteous and friendly, careful and methodical with the install, and cleaned up after each day (job took 3 or 4 days total). Several minor issues with the rough openings were corrected without added cost or delay. I'm pleased with the overall product and install, and believe Pella was the right option overall for our house. There were a few cosmetic issues I called back on that many installers would have dismissed as an overly picky customer, but Pella's installer quickly and patiently corrected the problem without complaint. Time will tell how the windows hold up, but they are a considerable improvement over the windows they replaced. Things to cringe at: Custom sizes were required to fit openings (original window dimensions only made in standard sizes by one mfr). Though custom sizes can be ordered in 1/4" increments, the measurements taken by Pella were a bit conservative (windows smaller than openings), leaving relatively large gaps between the new window assembly and rough opening - particularly on multi-window assemblies. Once the windows were on site, and the old windows removed, there's not much recourse unless I were to opt to abort install, so I reluctantly proceeded. The end result still looks good, the windows were well supported, and the trim neatly covers the gaps, but still a bit of a surprise during install and something I seriously considered rejecting. To their credit, the 1/4" custom increments exaggerate over multi-units (e.g. four windows across means that every 1/4" increment adds 1" to the total assembly width). Pella's windows were generally cost competitive (middle of the range overall) with other options that we considered, however their install costs were substantially higher than a half a dozen competing vendors - on the order of around $2k higher overall. If you consider Pella and know a reputable contractor for install, you might consider that route instead of a Pella install to reduce costs. I'm not displeased with the install work nor would I discourage anyone from using Pella install - quite the contrary. I do however feel that in a field of competitors at a similar quality/price point, similar service is probably available at lower cost.

This company has good products. The installers were good in the installation of the windows. The sales people were a different story. We had to keep continually calling them to find out what was going on and to get things done. We did have an issue with one of the windows but they came out an fixed it immediately.

We chose Pella's because they were an old company, had a lot of experience,so we decided to go with them. The workman that came out initially that took out the windows and the patio door was fine, he discovered on one of the windows that the frame was damaged and ordered a replacement. He installed the other windows and started on the patio door. They had the wrong screen for the door. He took the screen door with him and told us that we did not have to pay all of the 1300 dollars if it made up more comfortable. So we paid only $1000 and got a receipt saying so. We tried cleaning it afterwards and couldn't get a smudge off. So we called them, and they said they would order us another one and bring it along with the right screen. Three or four weeks later they called us to make an appointment to install the door and the screen. We had just spent $500 to have the carpets cleaned, so we put drop cloths down where they would be working. The frame of the new door that they installed did not fit correctly. So they ordered another one. The screen fit fine. Three to five weeks later, we got another call to set up an appointment. We put the drop clothes down again. They came out and found that the new door was scratched so they ordered another one. They never called back. Two and a half months later, a lady called to follow up on Pella's service. I told her I would never do business with them again. She said someone would be getting a hold of us. No one did so I called the lady back and ask her who the general manager was. She gave me his phone number. I called it and left a message. He called me back the same day and I told him what happened. He said he would find out what was going on and someone would get back to me. They called back and said they had the door and set up an appointment to install it. He told us that the door had been sitting in the warehouse and could not explain why. The final door did fit and was o.k. There was another company named Marvin's that has the same windows. I wish that we would have went with them.

They had good quality products and the work they did was good, but I have been getting the run around from them lately and the storm door hangs and won't open properly. I can't get them to adjust it for me and I have called them back 5 times. I kept getting shuffled around. I am hoping they will respond soon and take care of this because I really liked their products. It's sad because I only have a minor problem and can't get it resolved.

It took Pella about two days to get my windows installed. The workers were very courteous and respectful while they were here.
