We spent $3000 with them. They were very efficient. They were very professional. When they said they were going to do it, they go out here and did it. There were here 2-3 times to get all the work done. They did very well. I do not have any complaints whatsoever. Everything was fantastic. They did exactly like they were supposed to do. I would use them again and I would recommend them.

Robert responded and came to our home right away. He discussed all of our options. (Being a female) I felt I was treated with mutual respect and felt very comfortable working with Robert. Estimate was given on the spot so I could discuss the options with my husband. No pressure from the salesman. The work was completed by David in just a few days. All in all the work was exactly what we requested. Very punctual, very professional and very clean. Would absolutely use again.

The experience with Pat Murphy Electrical was very professional from start to finish. The technician called before arriving, and came right on schedule. He explained the service call cost, and that it would be applied to any repair cost. After searching the lines and checking the breaker box with no luck, he went into the attic to look around, not an easy task in our house. In the attic he traced the lines, and found a short in an old smoke alarm that had been replaced. He fixed the short, removed the old smoke alarm, and put a faceplate on the wall to cover where the alarm had been. The outlets and range hood worked normally, and he assured me my breaker box was the proper size and met code. I was very pleased with the whole experience from the scheduling, professionalism of the technician, and the cost. I thought the 165.00 cost was right on for the time and amount of work done. I will definitely use Pat Murphy for my electrical needs in the future.
Description of Work: We had a couple of outlets in the great room that had stopped working, along with the range hood in the kitchen. Murphy electrical came out to find and repair the problem.

Having used Pat Murphy in September 2010, they were the only company that we called to add new services in a renovated room. Kevin Dunn arrived at the appointed time and was very helpful in determining exactly what we needed. Mike, the technician, arrived on time and did a good job installing the new circuit breaker, recessed lights and switch and new receptacles. When I asked Mike to add a new cable in case we added a TV at a later date, he asked if I wanted the cable near the floor or higher up the wall. I did not have an answer at that time. Later, Mike told me if I would get the TV and all the devices that I needed, he could install them. Mike returned the following week with help (Keith) after I purchased the TV, TV mount, in-wall surge protector, sound bar and blue ray player. He and Keith did a great job mounting the TV and getting everything hooked up and working. We could not be happier with the work that was done. It was a bonus finding out that they could install the TV and other devices. We will not hesitate to call Pat Murphy again and to recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Installed a new circuit breaker, 2 recessed lights and a new switch, added new receptacles and changed a duplex to a quad receptacle. Installed a cable and wall mounted a TV and sound system.

Electrician arrived to fix problem with an outdoor light. He worked hard to address the problem but, ultimately, was not able to complete job because the concrete pole to which the light was affixed could not be moved in order to get to ballast mechanism. Will try to find some way to move the pole and may then contract with firm again.

We purchased this bathroom light and fan from Lowe's and didn't realize it needed to be connected to duct in the attic. We called Pat Murphy's due to the recommendations on Angie's list and he came a day earlier than anticipated. They spent about 45 minutes putting it in and left the area very clean. We are very pleased with their service.

When I called I explained the situation and was told that the technician could come the next day between 3:00 and 5:00, that he would call before he arrived, that there was a fee (about $29) for him to come out to give me an estimate, that he would not do any work without giving the estimate, and that the $29 would be deducted from the cost if I allowed him to repair the fixture at the estimated cost. Prior to his arrival I priced a brand new fixture from Lowe's the exact same size and style as mine at right at $39.48 + tax - this is the metal fixture only, not the wooden frame cover which would fit any fixture of this size. I was prepared to pay up to $100 to fix the existing fixture based on that price - if the estimate had been higher than that I would have most likely declined the repair and just replaced the whole fixture myself. The technician called at 1:30 to say he was on his way and would be here by 2:00. Luckily I was able to be at home all day today, although I did reschedule a phone meeting I had planned for 2:00 since he said he was on his way. When he arrived he was very professional, walked outside to get his ladder and when he returned I left him in the kitchen while I worked on my laptop in the adjoining room in full view. In less than 15 minutes he said he had fixed the light and would go prepare the invoice and bring it back in. I was surprised that he had not provided an estimate as I had been told (I assumed he was still assessing the problem, not repairing it - he did not go to the electric box to shut off the circuit breaker as I thought he would have to before working on the light), and even more surprised when he came back with the bill of $161. He said he had replaced the ballasts in both sides of my light (not just the unlit side) since they were old. I can appreciate this proactive approach, but I also know that the DIY sites about this issue all note that replacing the ballast is often more expensive than replacing the whole unit, so if he had mentioned that I should replace the second one before it went out completely, I would have definitely considered replacing the unit instead. I should probably also note that when I reviewed the ballast pricing they came in two and four bulb ballasts, so I am not sure if he meant he replaced two separate two bulb ballasts or one four bulb ballast, and it is not broken out on my copy of the invoice. I paid the bill and I did not complain to the technician - I felt he did a quick and professional job - but I was disappointed to have not been given the estimate in advance as promised. He did take my Angie's List coupon without complaint, and the light is working great.
Description of Work: I had a 4 bulb fluorescent light with 2 bulbs out in my kitchen. The light fixture came with my house and included a metal open 4 bulb fixture and a wooden framed cover that fits over it with a stained glass style facing.

Overall, I could not have asked for a better experience. You could imagine my dismay when the glass panel box overheated and started to smoke on December 21st. Really? Right before Christmas. Anyway, I immediately got out the phone book and started calling electricians. I contacted three prior to going with Pat Murphy Electric. The first electrician had gone out of business. The second electrician promised to show up on the 22nd of December, and never showed. The third electrician did show up. He stayed for about an hour and a half. He did not provide me with anything in writing. Everything was a joke with him. He even made racial slurs. I did not want to use this guy but I was in a time crunch. As I was processing how I was going to come up with such a large sum of money, a friend of mine told me about Pat Murphy Electric. I called Pat Murphy Electric on December 21st around 5 p.m. This lady answered and I explained my situation. She was extremely pleasant, professional and knowledgeable (I think her name was Beverly). On December 22nd, Robert Echols called me and told me that we would be at my house at 11:00 a.m. True to his word, he showed up right at 11:00 a.m. But it did not stop there. He surveyed my situation. He made several calls to the city to ensure that his plan of action would adhere to current codes. He gave me a WRITTEN estimate which detailed (elaborately) what Pat Murphy Electric would do. His estimate was less than the previous electrician and I did not have to hear racial slurs! The estimate also included warranty information. Robert Echols stated that he thought that they could get to my job on December 29th (had to check out manpower and the city's schdule being the holidays and all)but he would be back in touch with me by the next day. True to his word, he called the next day before he was supposed to. This seemed too good to be true. I checked them out with the Better Business Bureau and Angie's list. I opted to go with Pat Murphy Electric. Pat Murphy Electric was scheduled to show up on December 29th at 7:30 a.m. They were in the driveway by 7:20 a.m. Robert Echols was there wtih two electricians. Robert oversaw the job while John Rector actually performed the task. They informed me that it might take as long as two days. If things went well (orchestrating schedules with the city, accessibilithy to the wiring, no obstacles, etc.), they would finish in one day. By 5 p.m. on that day, the job was finished. John Rector had to frame in a new breaker box and change the electrical from the pole to the house. Thank God I went with Pat Murphy because the one company that did show up before Pat Murphy quoted me a price that did not adhere to the city's code. John Rector was awesome! He really was an electrical genius. He did not leave a mess, cleaned up after himself and explained (in layman terms) exactly what he had done. I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you Pat Murphy Electric.
Description of Work: I have an older home in the Knoxville area. It was built in 1947 and I had been having reoccuring issues with the electrical system. Pat Murphy Electric removed my existing glass fuse panels. They installed a new 200 Amp Riser (I was only on 100 Amp) with breakers and associated materials. Not only was my fuse box faulty, but it was not up to code. The location had to be changed. I also had a GFCI installed in the basement as my sump pump was plugged into an extension cord that ran across the floor. (Not real smart since it is a sump pump and sump pumps are associated with water). Finally, I had a GFCI installed in the bathroom.

Returned my initial call in a very short time. Responded right away with an estimate. John Rector, who gave us the estimate, also did the work, along Keith. John and Keith did exactly what they said they would do. When the new lamp post and lamps came in at the electrical supply company, John went by and picked them up for us. Very courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. I would definitely use them again and recommend to others.
Description of Work: Repaired an existing lamp post and replaced the lamp and lights in front yard, installed another lamp post and lamp/lights, installed four landscape lights, and put all the above on photo eye. Replaced old fan/lights in two bathrooms with new fan/lights. Made sure eveyrthing looked right and was working right.

I had a deal with Angie's List. I was in a panic because I couldn't get the power on, it was off in one half of my home and garage. I had no experience in a long time with an electrician so all of the sudden I thought of going on Angie's List which I was glad to do and found this electrician I had heard of but never had any experience with and it was the closest to my home. I called them and they very promptly said it would be the next day then they called me back and were able to get there the same day. The first person came and searched and searched but didn't find anything. He went to the office and got a piece of tracing equipment and another gentleman. They were both very professional and by using this tracing equipment they were able to find it very quickly. Even though there were two of them that came back to do the job the price was sill the same, I was very, very pleased.

They came when they said they would come to give me an estimate for the electrical work that I needed to have done. After receiving several other estimates, and talking with the service technician about the scope of work to be done, I accepted their estimate. They began the work when they said they would, and completed it in a timely manner. They obtained, and posted the required permits before beginning the work. When the work was completed the city inspector came and inspected the job, and found it to be done correctly. I am very pleased with the work that was done, and the price that I was charged.

A tree fell during a thunderstorm and settled gently onto our household power line. I really didn't know what to do after the power company told me it "wasn't their problem". I called Pat Murphey Electrial as he is #1 on Angie's List for my area, and they were here within hours to have a look at the problem. After the tree service left Mr. Murphy pointed out that there were no damages to my lines and connections. We were both surprised by this considering a tree had been sitting on the lines. Over the years I've used several different electrical services, each did the job passably, but there was nothing special about them. Indeed, some of them worked in "slow mo" and took every opportunity to increase the amount of the bill. Not so with Pat Murphy Electrical, these guys were fast, professional, and personable, you couldn't ask for nicer folks. I asked them for a business card and put it right into my card file for future reference, I'll never use any other electrical service. I very highly recommend this business to all members.

I can't say enough good things about this company. They came the same day I called (even though it was not an emergency) and were professional, knowledgeable and friendly from the phone call to the moment the technician pulled out of the driveway. John was a delight and arrived even a little earlier than they had originally told me (not a problem because he did call first). When's the last time THAT happened?
