The technician came to check on it and was very nice and polite. He was able to trouble shoot wiring and put in the new dimmer switch but said that the problem was the chandelier and not the wiring so it needed to be repaired. He said at then end of the visit that I should just give them and call after it was repaired and they would come by and hang the chandelier back up as part of the service call. I called today and different technician came by and wanted to charge an additional $290 to hang the fixture. This would have made a total of almost $600 plus the cost to repair the chandelier. I realize that all rates on everything have gone up but this is ridiculous. I have a friend who renovates houses that will hang it for me. I have nothing personally against this company...but the they should complete the job they started without having to charge double. I asked them to have the manager, Jason, call which he did but his answer was basically "sorry...it is what it is". I could either pay for another service call or leave my chandelier on the dining room table. Bottom line: Be sure if you hire this company and they do not complete the job on the visit you will be charged again for the second service call.
Description of Work: My power was out in my dining room and chandelier did not work.

I hired Pat Murphy Electric to install 220 VAC, 30 A service for a grinder pump. The installation failed state inspection due to wires passing through a wall which were hanging loose which should have been enclosed in a conduit, conduit resting on the floor in the crawl space which should have been strapped to the ceiling, and improper grounding of the circuit at the distribution panel. The installer returned to fix these problems. The work then passed inspection, but I later found that the conduit in the crawl space had been strapped to the ceiling in the more accessible part of the crawl space but was still resting on the floor in the back of the crawl space. When plumbers installed the grinder pump, they found that it would not operate due to low voltage on one leg of the circuit. The installer returned once again to tighten a loose connection in the wiring. I give Pat Murphy Electric two stars rather than just one because they did return to remediate substandard work.

It took them awhile to figure out how to fix it since one of the switches had been originally installed incorrectly. They stayed with it until they had it all working again. I have no real basis for comparison for the amount charged.

Late by approx 45 min Good job by technician. I stayed with him the entire time of 1 hr 50 min. Easy acces to fixtures. No unexpected wiring issues. Charge of $662.00. ( >$331/hr). Technician entered 3 hrs service time (? Included travel time) After multiple calls to company , Kevin said he talked to Mark Neil in Atlanta who said that is the charge and would not consider adjustment

Great. Mike was on time and got right to work. He also checked a bathroom ceiling light that didn't work and gave me a quote to replace the fan.
Description of Work: I had an outlet that had an "event" and was scorched and a wire burned. I called and described the issue and the person on the phone was courteous and professional. I was concerned that there may be a wiring issue that needed immediate attention and she offered to have the manager call me about it. He did call me within a couple of hours. I scheduled the work. Outlet was replaced (labor and parts). The price included my 10% Angie's list Coupon. I rated price as good instead of excellent because don't we all want to pay less? --but I do feel the price was fair for the work done and for the amount of time Mike spent on this job.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They charged $250 per hour for a simple job, plus they used unethical statements to entice approval for the job. The installer said he would waive the trip charge of $55 if the work was authorized. When I spoke to the manager to complain of the excessively high charge, he said that the trip charge was included in the charge (but not labeled as such), despite what yhe installer promised. The manager agreed to refund the trip charge, but refused to budge on the $250 per hour installation charge. And, no surprise, two weeks have passed and no refund received. I don't see how they stay in business charging these excessive rates. Horrible ethics, predatory charges.

Response from Pat Murphy Electric, Inc
We at Pat Murphy Electric, Inc. want all of our customers to have a positive experience with us and are disheartened to hear that you've had an unpleasant experience. To be clear, we do NOT charge by the hour and further do NOT begin any work until the customer has first agreed to the flat rate price, which we understand is what happened in your particular situation. In this case, we installed a brace box to support your customer supplied chandelier, which we also installed. On the job, there were no complaints of the work done. If a customer does not agree with the flat rate price of installation, we will not begin any work at all. Our Knoxville manager agreed to give you back $55 and this refund will be handled promptly. Again, we are regretful that you had a disagreeable service experience but we are always glad to mend the situation.

Electrician Mike arrived at the scheduled time. I had originally wanted to replace four fluorescent light fixtures that were either not working or on their last legs. Mike informed me that there was no need to replace the entire fixture because the fluorescent bulbs could be replaced with an LED bulb. The fixtures themselves were fine, it was the ballast in the fixtures that was the problem. He could get LED bulbs that contained the ballast in the bulb itself, allowing us to use the existing fixtures. He also pointed out that our smoke alarms were so old (true - they were installed 20 years ago) that they should be replaced too. He quoted me an acceptable price and said he could do the work TODAY - unheard of! He got the necessary materials and performed the work promptly and for less than the initial estimate. I am very satisfied with the job he did and will be contacting Pat Murphy Electric for several projects I have planned for next spring.

The breakers are working. Besides making the repair, the other notable positive was the electrician did respect our request to NOT have street shoes on carpet. The real issue for us was the expense of the repair. Two GFI breakers were replaced for $493 (had we not had Angie's List coupon of $50, it would have been $543. (FYI-Pat Murphy did not know we had a coupon)) Approximately 2 years prior, another local electrical company (bonded, licensed, and insured AND on Angie's List) replaced one GFCI for $124. You might ask why we didn't have that company back, --the reason-- we found another circuit not working after the electrician left. Of course, we can never know if this repair was related. My point here is that Pat Murphy charged double what it would have taken 2 years ago for the same job. My salary hasn't doubled in two years. Feeling disappointed that I was over charged by Pat Murphy.

Gerald Pannell from their company arrived a little early and as I met him and explained my problem he told me not to worry he would take care of it. I had two other companies out to try and fix it and they told me the only way they could fix it was install a new circuit which would have been an expensive fix. Gerald worked about 3 hours or so and found the problem and it was resolved. Thanks goodness for Angie's list and all the good reveiws I read on them. I would recommend them anytime. Thanks goes out to Pat Murphy for a job well done.

Diagnosed loss of power to my boat dock on Norris lake. Ended up being a non-operative 50amp GFI at the shoreline. Pat Murphy was easy to schedule, on time, and the electrician was very professional. The amount charged was fair considering my location, the cost of the breaker, etc. I highly recommend.

Pat Murphy Electric replaced 3 fluorescent ballasts in our garage in June 2012 (bay 1, bay 2, bay 3). In December 2015 one of the ballasts failed. We asked Pat Murphy Electric to replace it, which they did (bay 1) for their normal fee (only 1 year warranty on parts). A month later a second ballast from that threesome failed (bay 2). I was frustrated by this as I was suspicious of a quality issue as ballasts should last well over 7-9 years. I didn't want to pay for new ballasts every three years. When I called Pat Murphy Electric and spoke with their manager, he responded that ballasts should last much longer, and that they would replace the ballasts in bay 2 and bay 3 free of charge. Five days later the work was done, and all three fluorescent fixtures are working again. Pat Murphy Electric stood behind their work and their installation, and replaced 2 ballasts that were premature/incipient failures in a responsible manner without charge. That is a quality contractor. We will recommend them strongly to any friends who ask for a recommendation for an electrical contractor.
Description of Work: Replaced 2 fluorescent ballasts, one that had failed after 3 years, and another that had been installed also 3 yr ago and was anticipated to join its friends as a quality failure.
