+ -1 moreI had lost power to my garage door as well as the refigerator in the garage and Patrick found it to be a GFCI outlet that tripped and he reset that.There were also several wall outlets and 2 light switches that needed to be serviced. Some outlets/switches had loose connections while the other needed to be replaced.He was prompt, curteous and thorough. He informed me of all necessary work to be performed and gave a me a flat rate for all work to be performed which he did immediately.Overall it was a good experience and I would use Pat Murphy Electric again

+ -1 moreJohn showed up on time. There was some confusion about my phone number with the fellow who I spoke with over the phone initially, so he wasn't able to call ahead of his arrival as discussed. Nevertheless, he arrived well within the agreed to window. He worked quickly and efficiently and found the issue that was killing off the circuit within a half hour. He corrected the problem and was gone in forty-five minutes. Didn't cost more than $100, and then 10% off with the Angie's List coupon.
Description of Work: One circuit in the house was inexplicably disabled following a brownout.

He was neat and didn't seem to my mind my curious cat checking things out. The entire session lasted 2 hours. At least 30 minutes of this time was used to talk about future services. When I told them I heard about them on Angie's List they applied a 0% discount to my bill. I will use Pat Murphy's Electric for my future needs.

Description of Work: Pat Murphy Electric Service Technician Kevin Dunn and his colleague Mike have come to our home twice to install electrical outlets in our downstairs den, an installation that required bringing electrical connections from several rooms away and putting in place a 220 connection for an oven/range, a number of 120 appliance outlets, two dedicated lines for a refrigerator and dishwasher and also create a new outlet for a bathroom and a separate switch for a new bathroom fan with a heating element. Mr. Dunn came on site quickly after we called to ask for an estimate and delivered the estimate to us in a short time. Once we accepted his estimate he and Mike were able to come in for the first day of work within a day or two of our request. After our initial engagement of the company, we learned that much more electrical work would be needed to install a kitchen that is planned for the den area, so I contacted Mr. Dunn again, asking that he come for a second estimate of additional work. He was able to accommodate our request immediately and the work was scheduled immediately as well. Both Kevin and Mike were extremely pleasant and respectful representatives of their firm. The work was difficult and required much effort to bring the electrical through both concrete block walls and drywall in the ceiling. Both of them kept us informed of options as the work proceeded, so that the best decision could be made for each room (bathroom and den kitchen area). One aspect of the work that has been scheduled - the placement of the fan - has been delayed as has been the placement of GFI devices, while drywall is being placed. When I inquired of Mr. Dunn whether we needed to make a payment for the work that had been done thus far (95% has already been performed), he said not to be concerned about payment until everything has been completed. In addition, Kevin and Mike determined that the central electrical unit for the home needs to be upgraded and were able to suggest that with only a few hours of additional work, that can be brought up to code. Stokes Lighting company recommended Pat Murphy to us when we were inquiring about lighting and electrical contractors. In our opinion, they could not have made a better recommendation and we will use Pat Murphy in the future. Kudos to Pat Murphy for hiring such great employees! They have been a real pleasure to work with!

+ -1 moreDue to bad placement of trees that were in continual need of trimming, I had been wanting underground utilities from the utility pole to my house for several years. I had postponed the project because I did not know a good electrician nor did I know how to go about coordinating all the utility companies to complete the underground lines. I joined Angie's list specifically to find an electric company. It turned out to be a great decision. Robert Echols made an appointment, showed up on time, told me what would be required to do what I wanted. He told me that he could install the electrical and also install the conduit for the phone and cable lines with a pull wire so that those companies could disconnect their overhead wires and put them underground whenever I could get them scheduled. I told Robert that I had found him on Angie's list and he reminded me that his company had a 10% off coupon. He gave me an estimate for the underground lines, the whole house surge protector and the GFCI outlet on the front of the house. I told Robert I would call him after I got one other estimate. The other electrician was 2 hours late for our appointment and did not seem sure how to proceed with the project and his price was not much less than Pat Murphy Electric's. I was set to call Robert to tell him he had the job, when he called me to tell me that his estimate had not deducted the Angie's List 10% discount. That saved me more than $200.00. Robert and his men showed up the following week and did an exceptional job. They worked without cutting tree limbs out of the way and hand dug several feet of the ditch to save tree roots. They had to return a second day to install the whole house surge protector and the GFCI outlet. They were doing such a good job that I ran out and bought a new porch ceiling fan and had them install it while they were here. The state electrical inspector came and approved the underground work without me seeing him. Robert kept me informed on how to do the project and what his schedule was. He kept his word and he made a project I had dreaded go smoothly and was well worth having done. I now know a good, honest, reliable company to call the next time I need electrical work done.
Description of Work: Removed overhead electrical service and installed approximately 45 feet of underground electrical wiring in conduit, installed conduit for phone and cable service, trenching and backfilling ditch and state electrical inspectors' permit. Whole house surge protector. GFCI electrical outlet on the front of the house. Installed porch ceiling fan.

+ 0 moreThey did a really fine job. It was a good price and cheaper than we thought it would be. There were two different guys that came out on two different days to do the work. We were very pleased. The price was very fair and they were out here pretty quick after we talked to them. The quality was good and they were on time. They were very professional. We would absolutely use them again.
Description of Work: We used Pat Murphy Electric to change out some light fixtures upstairs and they put in a light fixture. They also hooked up some more lights in the half bath downstairs. We have a set of lights over the driveway and they replaced an old fixture with a new one and put in a dusk to dawn thing on it. There were also several plugs that were not working and they fixed about five plugs.

Electrician and his helper did a good job, which included moving the freezer to get at the plug, fixing it and moving the freezer back again. I'll call thes folks again, should i need electircl help

That day was scheduled but an appointment was made for the Tues. morning at 8am. Shortly before 8am, "Mike" called to say he was on his way. He arrived a few minutes before 8. He found the problem was just a loose wire which he reconnected. He also gave us estimates on several other jobs we want to have done and checked out a number of electrical things that he said were OK (our house is 88 years old). The electrical system was upgraded in the 1980's). He answered our questions and discussed alternatives of how various wirings could be done. The estimates all seemed reasonable and we'll be calling Pat Murphy Electric to do them. Mike was thorough, pleasant, friendly and VERY EFFICIENT. He was at our house an hour and a half. We would definitely use this company again. Very professional and a good price. They give a 10% Angie's List discount. Our bill would have been $130 otherwise. And that would still have been a good price.

+ -1 moreAbout 6 p.m. I found the GFCI in our garage kept tripping. This, unfortunately, meant our freezer and garage door openers were out. We had to get an after hours service call. I searched Angie's List and saw Pat Murphy electric had high ratings, and the Yellow Pages listed them as having 24 hour service, so I called. They took our information, and had a repair person on the way within the hour. Turned out that freezers and GFCIs don't get along, so he replaced the GFCI with a regular outlet, then installed the GFCI where it needed to be on the outside wall. Quick, professional, painless.
