Hiller was going to give me at discount of $338.40 because I had the fans and recertacles on hand. The electrical switch did not need replacement. It was the light bulb that caused it to dim a bit when I turned the light on. I ended up using another electrician and paid $363 for all of the work. It took 2 people about 2 hours to complete this work and they did it for a bit more then the discount of $338 that Hiller was going to give me because I had the parts. Hiller will never ever do any work for me again period. Hillers discounted estimate was more then 5 times what I actually ended up paying for the work. There will be no smiling trucks in my driveway.

They came and did the installation, which took all day, and early into the evening. They came in and did adjustments to the thermostat, and demonstrated how to set it, and how it works. After installation, they packed up and hauled away all the packing from the new unit and hauled away the old unit as well. They wore paper shoes any time that they entered the house, and did a very professional job. The person who came to write up the contract for the new heater was wonderful as well, and advised us as to which units they have had the least trouble with, and that was the one we went with. The new unit is guaranteed for 10 years for all parts, labor, and service calls. They did have to come out one more time as the unit froze, and that was because of a part that was defective in the unit, it took three hours to melt the ice to be able to get into the unit, but it was all taken care of in a professional manner. The defective part was then replaced, and we have experienced no trouble since then.
Description of Work: Initially they came to repair my old unit. After leaving the heater went out again. This unit was more than likely the original unit that was put in around 1986 or 89. I called them back and they offered to come out again. (I have two heating units, and a portable that I could get by with, and I know it happened during a really bad cold spell, and I did not want have them come back out when others needed them.)

Some people say they're expensive but I think they're very good. They showed us how to put in the filters on the new one. They sat down with us and told us everything about the furnace and stuff like that and how to set it. They even came back out and checked it for us and they called us. They cleaned up very well 'cause I'm really picky about that. They were all very professional young men. Everything was good. They were always on time. I don't have anything bad to say about them. It was positive. I think the price was reasonable even though other people think they're high.

I am a member of something called The Hiller Club. In the middle of the night, if something breaks, they'll put us at the top of the list. Our ability to get good service from them is off and on. One of the bad problems that they have is that they don't have any good sense. There was a fellow who came to work on our bathroom sink. We'd had some problems with it leaking. He took his wrench and kept tightening it. We told him not to do that and asked if there was anything he needed. The guy said everything was fine. He tightened it so much that he actually broke the stem that goes into the drain line. All he needed was some plumber's putty. We've got plenty downstairs and we told him so. We told him, if there was anything he needed, to let us know. The next guy they sent out tightened it. We told him not to redo what the other guy did and find out why it's leaking. Finally, they sent out a real plumber. He found the problem and said they needed to take the sink out and get us a new one. As he's taking the sink out, he breaks the top of the thing that the sink sits in. While we did get a new sink out of it, the reality was we had a lot of structural damage underneath because it leaked so much. We'd put pans under there, but the pans would spill. We got to a point where we couldn't use the sink anymore. It took us almost a month and a half before we were able to use that sink again. The other bad thing about them is that they're all trying to sell you something. "You're hot water heater is gone. You need a new hot water heater." They just put it in last year. They have some pretty incompetent people working for them. They sent a fully loaded truck from twenty miles away to check a sink when they had guys that were in the neighborhood. They have a guarantee, but the guarantee is useless, if they keep sending incompetent people out. They're pretty high as far as price. The Hiller Club is around $120 a year. The only thing that that guarantees is that you're at the top of the list. It doesn't give you any real difference on price. Their responsiveness is actually pretty good. They are very prompt, though it doesn't mean they can do the job. For somebody who's competent, they're fantastic. For somebody that's incompetent and doesn't know what they're doing, it's terrible. They're supposed to show up kind of neat looking. We told one guy not to wear his muddy boots in the house. He said, "Okay." He takes the muddy boots off. He's walking around the house then he goes back out to the truck without putting his shoes back on. I asked him why did he think I wanted him to take his shoes off for. He said, "Well, I thought you didn't want the shoes in the house." I told him I didn't want the exterior mud on my carpet. He was walking in the mud. I would think they would have to have a license or something. That's why I would think, with a license, they should be doing better. We probably are going to use them again but we are looking around for another plumber. After our contract ends in June, we really are looking around.

Hiller is very quick and very responsive. They show up on time and are available 24/7. The technician diagnosed the problem but I later found out he was a bit of an alarmist. He said the heat exchanger was cracked and would start blowing CO back into the house. He then said the unit was completely unsafe and he had no choice but to disconnect the gas. I had three other companies and techs look at it and they all agreed it needed to be replaced. None of them, however, agreed that we were in the danger the HIller tech claimed we were. I was told by two other companies that the only way to verify a cracked heat exchanger on this unit is with a camera. Maybe the tech was right to be so concerned, maybe not. Either way Hiller was quick to send someone out for a replacement estimate. The amount of alarm, though, seemed a bit overblown. If you're looking to save some money, Hiller is the last place I'd go. I got four estimates from local companies to replace my gas pack unit and Hiller was the most expensive by 25-30%. Same brand, same SEER rating, same warranty, same everything, Hiller just wants $2000+ more for it. In short, Hiller is quick, responsive and very, very expensive.

Hi [member name removed], Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate all feedback. We strive to make sure every customer is 100% happy and it sounds like we did not meet those standards for you. I forwarded this info to the manager who has tried to reach out you but has had no luck in making contact with you. It is our standard policy to disconnect the gas to units that have a cracked heat exchanger as it poses a risk of CO entering the home. This is why we recommend anyone with a gas furnace have a CO detector in their home also. This is also why it is standard that we camera the heat exchanger on every call to make sure there are no cracks. We also offer price matching but it does have to be an exact price match. Majority of the time we find the warranties are different, but without them in front of me I could not say for sure with your quotes. This is why we would very much like to speak with you concerning this, one to make sure the information you have provided in the feedback is put to valuable use and secondly for the opportunity to make things right in your mind. If you can please contact us at 865-602-7707 to speak with Fred Watson or Steve Lynn that can make that is taken care. Again thank you for your feedback.

House was built in the 70s and we renovated 3 years ago so we have pvc pipe running into 40 year old iron drain. Master bath toilet and another stopped flushing and would gurgle when shower was running. Aplumber from another company said it was the outside vent stack and said he cleaned it out. On a Saturday afternoon late the toilets would not flush and water started backing into shower and tubs. Called several companies on Angies list....some never returned calls and others were too busy or did not come out on holiday weekends. Called Hiller and the phone person (not in our area ) was very helpful and said plumber could come by 9 pm. They called at 6pm and said he was on his way. James was very professional and told me exactly what it was and told me the costs upfront. There was NO additional charge for weekend work. He was here for 3 hours and FIXED it. Pipe was clogged with sediment. Very happy and relieved.

They tried to tell me my unit was rusted out even showed me a pic with their high tech camera. They rushed the sales guy out and he said it would cost $12,000 to replace my unit. They said my current unit was under sized for my house as well so tried to sell me the next unit up. The next day I got 2 quotes from other local reputable companies. Both told me my unit was not rusted out and I didn't need a new unit unless I just wanted something more efficient. They even took the unit a part and showed me the the main components of the unit instead of a and quot;fakeand quot; picture on a camera. Both companies told me I didn't need a larger unit either. They actually both said my duct work couldn't handle a larger unit and there was no need for a large one anyway based on load size. This was all without providing any info from what Hiller provided, I just asked questions. Both also quote the same unit as Hiller between $5k and $6k. Yes, that is less than half the price. I would never use Hiller for anything. They get people to use them based on their maintenance program then try to take advantage. There are other local companies like Cantrell's that provided fair and honest work. At the very least i would highly recommend getting several other quotes for any work done by Hiller. I will never use them ever again!

After the men left, I noticed that the corner molding on the wall on one side of the water heater was badly damaged. I found the wood scraps stuffed down in a full waste basket. I emailed and called Hiller concerning this damaged and received no response as though this type of damage was expected. If the workers had told me of the damage I would ;have understood since wrestling the old heater and installing the new one such damage would not be entirely unexpected. However, there was no acknowledgement of this. Before this I had a very high opinion of Hiller; but this killed it.

My water heater sprang a leak late on a Sunday afternoon, partially flooding my garage. I called Hiller, which I've used many times in the past for HVAC and plumbing. A technician arrived within 90 minutes or so -- faster than promised. I was quoted $1,217.70 for parts and labor -- discounted from their and quot;retailand quot; price of $1,353 because I am a member of their Happy Hiller Club. Even this discounted price seemed very high, but it was a Sunday and I didn't take the time to shop around. I was leaving on a trip the next morning. I needed my water heater fixed immediately. I agreed to the quoted price. The technician completed the job quickly. He hauled off the old unit, and left everything clean. The water heater has worked flawlessly ever since (it is two months later as I write this review). I was delighted with the speed with which my request for service was answered, especially being a Sunday. The technician was cordial and, so far as I can tell, he did an excellent job. However, upon further review of the going rate for this kind of work, it appears that I paid a very high price. Several friends who recently had their water heaters replaced were stunned by how much I was charged. According to HomeWyse.com, the typical parts, labor and disposal price for mid-grade electric water heater replacement in my area is $605 to $775. Of this amount, $300 is the typical price for labor and disposal. Amazon lists the price of the Bradford White model I got at around $550, so I'm assuming this is a higher-grade water heater. Applying the and quot;typicaland quot; installation and disposal fee for my area, $900 might have been a more reasonable charge for this job and model. I paid 33% more. Home Depot advertises a 50-gallon GE water heater (9 year warranty) for $389. So $700 might have been a reasonable price for a less expensive model with a comparable warranty. This is in line with the typical prices cited by HomeWyse. To my knowledge, Hiller did not charge a premium for weekend service, so I assume their price would have been the same had the job been done on a Monday morning. My fault for not doing my research ahead of time. Had I been forewarned with market knowledge, I would have balked at Hiller's quote and asked for a more reasonable price. But I didn't know. I was in a time crunch. And I paid dearly for my ignorance and the urgency of my situation. Lesson learned.

I joined the Happy Hiller club and pay for annual maintenance on my furnace, A/C and plumbing. This was the first year I have used them and was very happy with this service. I am a homeowner that knows nothing about furnaces, air conditioning or plumbing! It is a great service that makes me more comfortable that they are providing routine maintenance which will make my equipment last longer and be more efficient thus, saving on energy costs. Although everyone that has come to my home to preform this maintenance have been very professional , the gentleman that came to my home to perform a routine annual check of my home's plumbing was outstanding! He checked my hot water heater, toilets and faucets (inside and out) which I expected but he gave me an education about my hot water heater and how to check the toilets to determine when to replace the float in the tank. It is well worth the cost to have peace of mind that things are being maintained by a professional. !

They were very professional and quick to respond. The estimator came to my house the same evening I had inquired about replacing my HVAC system. She was very informative about the systems and explained how they worked and what they would save in energy, etc. I didn't go with this company because their quote was the highest of the 3 that I received and that was after they gave me a $2500 rebate. I also received a voicemail from Hiller several days after telling me they would discount it by an additional $1,000. They were still the higher bidder. I have used the company in the past and was very satisfied with their service. However, it turns me off when a company gives a quote and then starts lowering the pricing after they have sent you a quote. I prefer that a company provide their best offer up front.

Until recently, I've been very pleased with Hiller's HVAC and plumbing service. I've always found their service guys to be prompt, courteous and professional. I've never had a problem getting prompt responses to service problems, and their fees don't seem to be out of line. I am a subscriber to their Happy Hiller Club, which gives me three inspection and maintenance visits per year (one for plumbing, the other two for spring and fall HVAC) and found this pre-paid maintenance to be a good value. I also trust their honesty. I once had to call for service several months after my last inspection. The repair guy told me that a component he installed on a prior visit had failed. I would not have known otherwise, but he and his company took responsibility for this and repaired my unit again at no charge. Experiences like these have prompted me to recommend Hiller to my friends and family several times. My favorable view dimmed a bit, however, after Hiller swapped out my old heat pump for a new one in March 2013. The new unit stopped working within hours of being installed, requiring a repair visit. The installers had neglected to connect a critical piece of wiring, which took the repair guy several hours to track down. He also noted the installers had failed to install a new pad for the outside unit, as called for in our purchase agreement. Instead, they sat the new unit on the old pad and left it slightly out of level, which is not good for a compressor. I also was not pleased that they gave me no documentation of their work. I had to ask the home office later to mail me an invoice or some other proof of purchase for tax and warranty purposes. It's my impression that the installers came to my home with the intention of getting the job done as early as possible so they could get on with their weekend. They showed up well before the time I was expecting them, and one of them remarked on arrival and quot; This won't take long. It's Saturday!and quot; Maybe the guy was just trying to make a light-hearted joke. But a Hiller supervisor told me later, after inspecting the paperwork, that the installers finished the job faster than he would have expected. The repair guy noticed the pad issue and reported it back to the home office. The supervisor called me the following Monday to apologize for the inconvenience and to schedule another appointment to replace the pad. The repair guy assigned to do that arrived the following Saturday. He, too, indicated it wouldn't take long. He knocked on my door a short time later and said he was finished. When I inspected his work, I saw he had not replaced the pad but merely shored it up with gravel and leveled it. I told him that wasn't what the supervisor and I had discussed on the phone, nor was it what was promised when I bought the unit. The repair guy was courteous but said his work order said 'level the pad' and that's what he had done. I later found the original paperwork for my order on which and quot;new padand quot; was clearly specified. I asked him, and quot;If this were your home, would you be satisfied with this [pointing to his work]? He immediately admitted that he wouldn't. I told him I wanted the same quality and thoroughness he would want for himself. He agreed to my request and spent several more hours on the job uninstalling the unit, digging out the old pad, installing the new pad and reinstalling the unit. Since then, my unit (a 3-ton Amana 14 SEER) has worked flawlessly. Much quieter than my old unit (a 6-year-old Goodman that apparently developed a leak not long after installation). So, performance wise, I'm pleased with how my new unit is working. I would rate Hiller's customer service -- especially on the REPAIR side -- an A++ for speed, courtesy, honesty and aggressive follow-up with customers after service calls to be sure everything is OK. I'm hesitant to recommend Hiller for installation or replacement, however. And I freely acknowledge my own culpability here. I assumed that, because their service guys are good, their installation guys didn't need to be supervised. In my case, they clearly did. Had I been discreetly checking on their progress, I would have seen their intention to re-use the old pad and stopped them, thus saving their company an expensive rework job. So, in that regard, I was remiss in trusting the installers too much and not exercising more oversight. At no time was anyone with Hiller rude, disrespectful or reluctant to meet my requests. Once they realized I was unhappy, they seemed willing to do whatever it took to make me happy. So A++ on that. I just wish they had done the job right the first time. A final point: I've always been told that the brand of HVAC you install matters little because only a few manufacturers make the major components that everybody else uses. So, regardless of the brand name on the outside, what's inside is likely to be pretty much the same. What matters more is the quality of the installation. And since my installation did not go smoothly, I worry about whether my unit will be troublesome down the road. Time will tell.

From the time I initially called, representative arrived in about one hour and diagnosed problem. Gave three options and did not pressure me into any one option. Set appointment for repair to begin next morning at approximately 8 am. Repair crew called and said they would be a little late, arrived about two hours later. Crew was personable and went about their work efficiently. Had one small hiccup but took care of the problem without any additional charge. Will definite use them again.

I got 3 service calls for $99.00. That was pretty good deal! They are very conscientious about making follow up calls, to ensure that everything is okay.
Description of Work: They did a tune-up for my heat pump system, and for my water heater.

Jeremy and Bobby were ontime to start the job. They were also able to work with us to adjust their schedule. They were very professional, very knowledgeable and very considerate. My family felt that we were in very good hands. We were quite satisfied with the service, the product and the price. I would shop here again. This company is the best plumbing and cooling in the Knoxville area. I have learned this the hard way. They have earned my continued business. I hope they don't get too big and end up like the other companys in the area.

The have a program called the "Happy Hiller Family" which costs 99 dollars a year and it gets you one plumbing, one heating and one air-conditioning inspection for that 99 dollars. The things that have impressed me is that they are always very up-beat on the phone. They call within 15 to 20 minutes of their technicians showing up to let you know that they are coming. I will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I have used Hiller Plumbing Heating & Cooling for plumbing services. They were last out yesterday. Back in March, they had re-plumbed the house and we had a question about a leak and they came out and took care of it. I also use them for heating and air.

gutter repair

I decided to call HEP after hearing all of their local advertising and checking Angies List (they had generally good grades). I called to get an estimate on complete gutter system replacement. We scheduled an appointment for an estimate, which they came out and provided within a few days. After reviewing the estimate, I scheduled a time for the tech to come back with the contract to be signed in order to perform the work. I took time off of my very busy job to get home to meet the service tech. He did not show up and did not call. I waited for several hours before finally giving up. He then called me the next morning and apologized for missing the appointment and said he had had an unexpected medical issue. Now that may very well be true and I have no reason to doubt him, but if he were incapacitate or had a medical emergency, then his company should have had a secretary or dispatcher call and cancel his appointments or send someone out in his place. This company may do good work, and by all indications from Angies List they do, but I am a busy person and don't have time for missed appointments. I will probably look elsewhere next time.
Description of Work: Supposed to provide gutter replacement service.

I decided to use Hiller because they do not charge extra for nights and weekends. I called them on Friday evening about my Water Heater and they had a service man out to my house by 7:30 that night to repair it. They are honest with what needs repaired and do not try to push replacement when it is not required to fix the problem. Jeremy Morgan is excellent, he is not a hard seller and I appriciate that. A first class operation!
Description of Work: Hiller came out to repair my water heater about 6 weeks ago and I have been using them for other things since such as plumbing and repair of my garbage disposal.
