Response from Custom Renovations Co
This person is upset because I made a mistake by telling her that in most cases I can honor the standard bid amount and I made this statement without looking at the job. Never again will I make this mistake. When I did look at this roof, I saw that it was in terrible condition due to years neglect. First of all, I was not informed that there were two layers of roofing that were so deteriorated that is was going to take three times longer to remove than normal. Secondly, the roof sheathing (plywood) was in such poor condition, that I had to make sure that I walked on top of the trusses (for fear that I would fall through the roof) and that I reccomended that it all be replaced and that the masonry chimney had no flashing, only tar coating. The owner also expected me to include the cost of replacing the rotted fascia and soffit materials/ labor. I informed the owner that the roof was in far worse condition than she discribed and that the amount that she expected me to do the roof replacement for was inadequate and unfair. I also said I could not match the price she received from another bidder, whom was as she said was "two thousand dollars less". I don't believe we were bidding on the same amount or quality of work. I would have liked to have been assured we were comparing apples to apples. My company operates under strict guidelines and is fully licensed, bonded and insured.
