My master bedroom was too small, so they took down the wall to another bedroom and now I have a lovely big room. I also have a walk in closet which I never had before. I also have a much safer stairway - the old one was too steep. All the work was done carefully and professionally. I've used this company before and they always do a wonderful job.

 + 1 moreThe entire process was excellent. I called and left a message for the owner, Mark, and he called me back within 24 hours and set up an estimate appointment. I originally called for just attic insulation but discovered during the estimate meeting that his company could install attic stairs where we had none, move some wiring, and floor our attic. The estimate was right in our ballpark so we scheduled the work. The workers were on time; courteous; cleaned up and the work was done within a two day time frame. Mark checked the work and verified our satisfaction before accepting final payment. We will be using this company again in the future. This company, as we learned, can do all sorts of jobs so be sure to ask them about anything you are considering having done.

He got right back to us with an estimate and after consulting with a couple of different companies, we decided, based on price and customer service, that we would go with Custom Renovations. They were great! They came when they were scheduled to come, were very professional and worked very neatly. They took out our old sink and faucet along with the countertops that Mark picked up himself after I picked out a swatch I liked and kept our floors covered as they worked. They did a great job and were very thorough. They also hauled our old countertops off. They were great and we would definitely use them again! I can't say enough good things about them! Our kitchen looks great and we are so pleased with Custom Renovations!

 + 3 moreI consulted Mark Steck's Custom Renovations Company because my house needed lots of updating, repairs, and improvements in preparation for putting it on the market within the next year; plus bringing the garage up to code by putting the fire code drywall on the unfinished ceiling. Mark made great suggestions and helped me achieve the look I wanted within my budget. He broke down the estimates, item by item, so that I could prioritize and choose which things to approve. Then while the work was being done... there were so many things that are just part of what they do - things that were delightful, unexpected additions. You may find a cheaper estimate, but you won't find anyone with better attention to details and finishing touches. Mark's crew are dedicated, hardworking guys whose motto is, "Do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again later." As a result of that over-riding work ethic, everything is awesome (I'm still trying to take it all in), I'm a satisfied customer, and everyone ends up happy! When I made my final payment I had absolutely no regrets or second guesses, and I'm soooo glad that I selected this company over others that I considered. They are worth the wait!
Description of Work: In the house: built a walk-in closet in the master bedroom with shelving and light; added electrical and cable outlets outside the closet; closed up an unnecessary door between two rooms, bringing the drywall to paint stage; built a pocket door in one room; replaced eleven interior "old 80's" brown stained doors with pre-hung six panel doors and installed hardware; replaced casing on all doors in the house with matching trim; replaced all baseboards in the house to match the doors; installed crown molding in four bedrooms, two bathrooms and the hallway upstairs; replaced the entrance door between the house and garage with a pre-hung steel entry door and installed lock set; created a beautiful, floor to ceiling built in bookcase in the living room where there was a large cold air return that was no longer in use; repaired all dings, cracks, and holes in all the drywall (from picture hangers, drapery rods, etc.) in all rooms, in preparation for painting; and repaired several places in the tectured ceilings where nails had popped during prior work in the attic and on the roof. In the garage: Installed 5/8" fire code drywall to ceiling of the garage after re-routing the tubing for the built-in vacuum, and framing to conceal all plumbing and electrical; installed drywall to a masonry wall; finished off around two windows and applied trim; repaired/finished all previously incomplete drywall on walls of garage and brought all to paint stage.

Description of Work: I got estimates to do several jobs. The pressure washing of the house/deck/porches and driveway was two to three times what I expected (I've had it done before with another company). I had it done for a third the price by a new company and was very pleased with the work. I have had an estimate and scheduled the other jobs and the price savings are similar.

I gave them a B on price not because their pricing is bad (not at all) but because it is comparable to other quotes I received. They are defintely a value, and will go the extra step on the job. I would definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Hard wiring electric service to induction cooktop and new breakers. Troubleshooting existing wiring and sorting out low voltage issues. Investigating how to move refrigerator onto its own circuit.

I can't fault them for that too much though because the same heavy winds that damaged my garage panel also caused a lot of damage to other properties in the area. I have no doubt that they were pretty busy as a result of the storm. When they finally got someone out there, he competently replaced the roof panel. I have no complaints.

Labor and materials estimated separately, work areas, item by item.....so that owner can eliminate or change their minds, deleting an item without affecting the other items. Mark works with his clients, wanting to understand their needs and budgets. Offered copies of his licenses. Had insurance co. send copies of his current insurance policies. When the workmen began work, they were very efficient, always on time, knew their jobs and went straight to work. Some days we had seven men, other days only a few. Had their assignments and worked well together. Good equipment and supervision. We were flexible in our demands for their time, as we are retired and easy going on schedule. We are impressed with the care taken with each detail. So precise and well done. Our old home looks nice outside and the inside work is beautiful. Will probably have Mark look at some more jobs here next summer. Always something that needs doing.
Description of Work: Work was done on this almost 60 yr. old house. Renovations included removing wall of windows and installing French doors and windows, trim, repairs to panelled walls and refinishing floors in bedroom. Bath totally redesigned, tub removed and replaced with custom designed large shower stall with new window, all hand tiled and finished with seat and custom shelves. Hand made vanity cabinetry, new countertop, Numerous repairs to closet doors and staining of several interior doors. Excellent woodworking skills. As for the exterior of the house and surroundings, good job of total painting with three different tones of paint. Also, added vinyl shakes to gable ends of house and carport. Trimmed out with great care and skill. Looks great. New concrete paatio and sidewalk. Brick work was also done satisfactorily and ironwork painted. Slate terrace repaired. Two outside doors were made as replacements for bad ones....very nicely done. Electrical work, plumbing, painting, window glazing and trimming out. Pressure washing where needed. Crew swept up each evening and were pleasant and very helpful to owners. Trash hauled off often. So many other jobs done......3 toilets replaced, one small bathroom has new flooring, baseboards, shower repaired. think they can do almost any job you could think of!

 + 7 moreAfter obtaining three estimates, we went with Mark Steck because of his professional demeanor. He communicated well with us and kept us apprised of what was going to happen each day. The amount of tile needed for the project was miscalculated (not Mark's fault) and Mark worked with the the tile store and got the situation straightened out. Initially, the granite company was going to do the installation, however, we changed companies during the remodel and Mark picked up the granite and installed it. Additionally, we had planned on painting the walls ourselves in order to save money and Mark offered to not only do the painting but he also provided the paint at no charge. We had looked at vanities at the "big box" stores, but Mark was able to build one exactly as we wanted for $200 less. Mark's professionalism and high standards are the reasons we highly recommend him and why we will hire him again.
Description of Work: The hall bathroom was gutted except for the bathtub. A window above the tub was replaced with a block window, the floor was repaired (rotting boards) and tiled on the diagonal, the tub area extending through the vanity area was also tiled and the remaining walls were painted. All fixtures were replaced, a new fan/light/heater was installed in the ceiling, a vanity light was installed and a new Shaker style vanity was built and installed.

 + -1 moreI am very thankful that we found Mark Steck and his company, Custom Renovations Company. I originally called him to make a new stove fit into a space that seemed to be too small. Mark came by to look at the problem on the same day I called him. As it turns out, the stove did fit and Mark was able to move it into the space (something the delivery people were not able to do). We also asked him for advice on making a new refrigerator fit under an existing cabinet. We wanted to just tear down the cabinet. However, Mark and his crew came back the following day and raised the cabinet. The work looks great! He and his crew did an excellent job. Mark wants the work done right and goes to great lengths to make sure it is. We were so pleased, we called him again when we needed a new range hood installed. Mark worked above and beyond our expectations. He stayed until the job was complete and done correctly. Thanks to him, our kitchen looks great! Mark and his crew are hardworking, honest, and even more of a perfectionist than I am! He is conscientious and goes out of his way to get the job done. I have recommended him to co-workers, friends, and family and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. I really appreciated his promptness in completing the work and will be calling on him again.

 + 4 moreMark Steck came to my home and worked up an estimate. Mark personally fixed the water damaged area in the garage. Great quality work and very nice drywall finishing. 3 men on his crew did most of the rest of the work with Mark overseeing their work. They were all nice guys; easy to have around and took care in their work. I was pleased with the quality of work. For this project I wanted to use a special environmentally friendly stain that I had to special order from out of town. I provided the stain for the project for this reason. Mark and his crew were very willing to work with me on this and other eco-friendly preferences I had for the work. It was somewhat experimental and I was very happy with their willingness to adapt to my preferences. A major plus for me was that Mark had good familiarity with eco-friendly and low toxicity products; and was happy to use them. Overall, I am pleased with the finished work and I would hire this company again.
Description of Work: Replaced cedar siding on front, one side and upper level roof area of home. Stained new siding on all four sides. Stained and replaced other exterior cedar boards as needed. Stained and replaced porch railing and supports. Stained existing siding on back of home and chimney enclosure. Caulked siding joins on new siding and as needed elsewhere. Replaced interior area of water damaged supports and drywall.

 + -1 moreThese guys are absolutely fantastic. Mark sent a crew out every day until the job was done. They would should up at 7:50 and wait until 8am, then knock on the door. They would already be laying on mud by 8:05. They worked until 5 or 5:30. This was every day until the job was completed. Mark and the men on his crew were very professional, easy to work with, and super knowledgeable. I highly recommend this company to anyone, and will definitely hire them in the future for more drywall jobs.

 + 3 moreMark gave a free estimate, base on my specific requests. After looking at my budget and the quotes, I revised the jobs I would do myself vs. those I wanted him to do. He came back with a very reasonable plan which I accepted. He proceeded to work around me and some other contracted workers to knock out the work in an acceptable time period, even though it was clear that he was very busy. After it was finished, I found a couple more things I wanted him to do, which he quickly accomplished.
Description of Work: Mark and his crew(s) performed many renovations/repairs as part of my overall home renovation project. This included painting some high areas, installing ceiling fans and lighting, demoing an old fluorescent light "box" and replacing it with pendant lighting, several plumbing installations, running a gas line to kitchen and replacing electric cooktop with gas, caulking external windows. He also replaced some bathroom mirrors, did some exterior cleaning and stain removal and a few more that I can't remember. The list probably ended up being 20-25 specific tasks.
