 + -1 moreThe last items I had to deal with from storm damage were the gutters and a flat patio roof. There were several things that made CRC stand out above the rest. 1) Competitive quote. In addition to being competitive the quote was done quickly and delivered in a professional format. 2) The People - No matter what the call was for the reply was prompt, friendly, and accommodating. I cannot say how great it was to deal with a contractor in this area that cared and delivered such great customer service. 3) The product - I was there during some of the work and the attention to detail and quality blew me away. The flat roof was sealed with EPDM (If memory serves correctly). This product was put on right! I would imagine most would have just tucked the material up under the shingle and said good enough. Not so for CRC! They went to the trouble of removing a few courses of the shingles and running the material well up onto the roof the sloped onto the patio cover. This ensured a leak free seal. I was impressed, especially considering how hot it was here last summer. The gutters were also done with attention to detail. I had one particularly difficult area that had dripped on the old gutters since I bought the house. This area after the installation still had a small drip. I don't blame CRC as this area, by design, is nearly impossible to keep from leaking. Mark came back out and worked on it to ensure it did not leak. I am very happy with the work. I can without hesitation recommend CRC. Thanks to all at CRC!!!

 + 0 moreThis repair was on the roof of an addition, a screen porch. Initially, CRC did an excellent job finding and repairing several roof leaks resulting from the original contractors poor workmanship. They were always courteous and clean. There was, however, one part of the job that irritated me. After the initial repair, we continued to have a leak. I kept telling CRC about the leak and the fact that it existed even before the original roof was installed on the screen porch. To my mind, this meant the leak was not in the roof. To their credit, CRC actually redid the repair twice. Unfortunately this did not fix the leak. During the second re-repair, I came home and talked to the worker about the location of the leak. Once he realized the roof they were repairing was an addition and not the original roof, he indicated he knew how to fix it. He installed a piece of flashing which greatly reduced the magnitude of the leak. However, there is still a tiny leak when it rains heavily. I intend to fix it myself this spring. I would hire CRC again and intend to do so later this year for some brick repairs.

 + -1 moreMark and his team did a great job. We had gutter problems for a while with overflow, even when cleaned out. Mark quickly identified that the gutters on the house were too small for the size roof we had. He installed a larger size gutter and downspout and screening system. He and his crew were done in less than a day, and cleaned up afterward. The only sign they were there was the new gutters. The new gutters look great and have worked very well with all the recent rain and snow. We are happy. Wish we had called Mark sooner.

 + 0 moreWe had Mark build a new deck 14 x 20 to replace a very small, sad looking deck. He also installed an outside electrical outlet. We are very pleased with the result. There was quite a large crew of workmen who were very professional and hard-working who seemed to give 100% until the job was completed. Our job included staining of the deck and we were given great advice about the color. The deck looks great and we have no complaints!

 + 0 moreOriginally wanted to just adjust slope one one that did not drain well and get larger size for one that often overflowed. Couple of estimates preferred replacing all gutters. CRC was higher bidder on that but we had used them for a skylight job that we were satisfied with. Took awhile to schedule but work was done in one day and still looks good.

Description of Work: Installation of two outdoor motion detection lights on stairway from deck to patio. This required removal of rough sawn cedar siding from inside the back porch and mounting and wiring the light fixtures. Once power was connected, wiring connections for indoor switch were completed. Then the cedar siding was replaced and sealed. The lights worked as expected. Mark and his crew were workmanlike, polite and friendly. Mark has done work for us before this was another example of his normal excellence.

 + 4 moreMark Steck was very thorough in the estimate. He provided detailed information on the specifications for the door and lock replacements and for the attic stairs. For the insurance work, the estimate was in line with the estimate from the insurance company, which was not my experience with other contractors used for the roof, gutters, and siding. The Office Staff was very responsive. The work crew showed up when promised, lworked together professionally, kept the place clean, and was a pleasure to work with. It was really a turn-key job with no problems. Custm Renovations knew what to do and they did it in an exceptional maner.

After going over the contract for the project with Mark, he met me to assist in ordering the materials for which I was responsible. This added a level of comfort and ease to what could have been a stressful process. Mark knew better than I what was needed especially as far as size and quality were concerned. Because Mark was there any questions I had were quickly answered. This certainly reduced the need for returns and running out at the last minute for materials. The workers were punctual and professional through out the whole process. I was updated daily on what had been done and given an overview of upcoming work. Although the work was dusty or messy during most of the project, the crew made every effort to minimize the effect on my daily life. As I was at work and not able to take calls during the day, the project manager and Mark were courteous to text me or call before or after work when they needed to let me know something or needed my approval . The work was completed and the area cleaned up in a timely manner. I am extremely happy with the results of the project. I can honestly say that the results surpass my expectations.
Description of Work: Mark and the CRC crew removed and replaced the tile flooring in the kitchen, dining area, and large family room. They reduced the size of a hall linen closet in order to increase the size of a bathroom. Added shelves to the remodeled closet and painted it. Removed the tile from the hall bathroom's walls as well as the drywall, added insulation in those walls prior to replacing the drywall. In both of my bathrooms they replaced the vinyl flooring with tile and put up bead board on the lower portion of the walls in one bathroom, replaced the toilets and installed new vanities, vanity lighting, and medicine cabinets. They reworked the exhaust fans-venting them through the roof, painted both bathrooms and the bedroom adjoining one bath. In both bathrooms Mark and crew repaired plumbing as needed. They also inspected and treated an area of a closet which had previously sustained some water damage. CRC relocated 2 AC vents-one in the kitchen- moving that poorly positioned vent into the kick plate of a cabinet and in a bedroom moved an AC vent from a doorway (This lead to a needed patch the 60 year old hardwood floor where the vent had been. This was matched so well that the repaired wood flooring is not noticable.) They replaced/painted all interior doors, 2 of the home's entry doors, one storm door, and reworked the deck's metal doorway to improve the door's swing. The crew replaced/painted all trim and molding on the main floor of the rancher. Due to an earlier power outage, I was experiencing some electrical problems which they repaired (including finding and warning me of a potential fire hazard involving the microwave). They guys also replaced existing outdoor lighting, added 2 new security lights, reworked an overloaded circuit in the kitchen and relocated and repaired some switches and switch plates. They also upgraded all light switches. In addition CRC pressure washed the home's exterior and deck.

The only thing that stopped them from getting the roof finished in one day was nightfall and they were back the next morning and finished in a couple of hours. The guttering crew knocked out their job in half a day. All materials of stipulated quality and quantity. Both crews cleaned up very well. You almost didn't know they had been there except for the visible work done. No mess of residue left around. Brought the job in for bid given and very satisfied with the quality of the work.

 + -1 moreWe returned the slide-by screen door and bought a storm door, bringing it home with us. We then called the subcontractor to advise him the doors were here and ready for install. He promised to return the following Saturday with a worker with more experience who could help him with the install, and that we should let him know when we had the door. On Friday, my husband called the subcontractor, and was told he would be there on Saturday or maybe Tuesday or the following Saturday. We did not hear from the subcontractor on Saturday. We determined not to use this company for this or future projects. For the cost, we expected good quality work performed when the contractor arrived. We were very disappointed in the delay, as this storm door is an easy-hang door, requiring little more than a drill, screwdriver, and level. It's the type of job I would have done myself if my husband were able to help lift and hold the door in place. Monday morning I called Custom Renovations and cancelled our work order. About 10 minutes afterward, the subcontractor called and left a message that he would be here on Tuesday afternoon. Curious timing. It is unfortunate that this subcontractor did not perform well for Custom Renovations. Perhaps their other subcontractors do very well, but we will not take the opportunity to find that out.
Description of Work: We wanted 3 storm doors installed. When the subcontractor came to see the site, we determined that only 2 doors could be installed, and one of them needed to be a slide-by screen . We agreed on that fact, but the subcontractor said there would be no reduction from the $400 estimate previously given. Several days later, he picked up the doors from Lowe's and brought them to our home. After a short while, he reported the slide-by could not be installed, so we said we would return it for a different type of door. The subcontractor did not install the other storm door, saying he didn't have the tools he needed with him. (This is an 'easy-hang' door, requiring little more than a drill, screwdriver, and level - no mortising for hinges.) So, the only actual work performed was the pick up of two doors from Lowe's.

 + -1 morePROS: Overall I would say the company did well but, not without a few important issues/complaints. I might or might not use them again, depending on what kind of work I needed done. They installed new 6" gutters and 2x3" downspouts on my whole house. CONS:: (1)I was not told my house did not have a drip edge until the new gutter work had been completed. This was explained to me on the second trip in which they came to tighten up all the gutters again because they leaked a fair amount. I was told that the drip edge was something I should/would need to worry about when I replaced the roof (due in 2-5 years). Needless to say, not exactly information you want to find out After the fact and essentially tells me that (2) this isn't work the company wanted to or does perform and (2) he expected me to deal with however much leaking will continue to occur for the next 2-5 years. Would you go through spending money on something new knowing it will only be partially functional?? I also drew attention to one corner of my house which now looked different than before (appeared as if the corner was drooping or fixed too low against the house) - my statement/question was ignored and the subject changed. (2) I was told the gutters were warranted so I asked about this because, I could not locate anything specific on the "contract". I was given the name of the company that produced the gutters and told that the warranty would be through them if they were defective. That is fine if is something that will hold up but, is information that should be more clearly defined or given out prior to or upon the work being completed. If something was to happen, it is possible that if I could not get the info from CRC that I would have little to nothing to go on nor have any idea who to contact. Files get lost and employee turnover happens all the time.
Description of Work: I had new gutters installed and they were the best priced. Mark worked with me on the price and himself and the office manager were very responsive in their promptness. They got the job done and a few workers even stuck it through in the rain, and also came back 1-2 separate times in order to fix where was still leaking after the install. Clean-up was good, not great.

 + -1 moreThey said they would come back, said they wanted the work and had a few people come out. We liked them and would have seriously considered hiring them. But, they sent one guy out and we never heard back so when we called to find out why they told us the man that came out said the work was a little over his head and that they would send the owner out. The owner came out, and again we never heard back. We ended up hiring someone else due to lack of communication, we figured that was the the trend.
Description of Work: No work was performed, we wanted to hire them for a job.

 + 5 morefor every single quote, it was way overpriced. i obtained quotes from multiple people for every single quote, at least 5 of each for each thing, for every single one, they were several hundred dollars higher. for the more expensive repairs, they were $1000 higher the only good quote was for gutter replacement, which was a very competetive quote (the least expensive), but because of the high price for every single other thing, i didnt want to go with this company for anything, and so the company with the 2nd best quote for gutters matched the price, and i went with them. they probably do good work based on other reviews, but the work i recieved from the less expensive vendors was very good as well. which i also got their quotes from angies list as well, and have been very happy. i got multiple projects completed for less than the price that they quoted me just to run the electrical for the stove. the price for the shower ceramic tile was over $1000 more than what i paid. the vendors i ended up using is Peace roofing (best roofing price), Artech roofing (roofer who matched peace roofing's price for roof, and matched Custom Renovations price for gutters) , and Terry Todd (remodeling specialist) for everything else. (Terry Todd charges $50 an hour for all that he is able to do, and did EXCELLENT WORK!!!) I guess if you are rich enough to overpay, then they probably would be good to use, but i see no need to overpay for things, not that i dont want to pay for quality work, because i do. but if you look at the satisfaction of all the vendors i used, they are rated A+ as well, and they dont charge an arm and a leg to do it.

 + -1 moreWork actually started on 11/4/2011. The bulk of the work was completed quickly. However the quality of work was disappointing (see pictures). One of the main reasons I selected CRC Roofing was because the owner, Mark Steck, described how his crew would remove the old roof. I was concerned about nails and and debris from the demolition and I was assured that the crew would put down tarps and catch all the roofing materials and nails. This did not happen. I had to spend two days picking up old shingles, felt paper, nails, and cigarette butts they left behind. Unfortunately, some of the nails were found by shoes and car tires. Some installation issues have still not been fixed nine months after the job was started. I have called and sent emails to the owner of CRC concerning these issues. I have talked with other CRC employees but have not heard from Mark. The biggest frustration in dealing with CRC Roofing was that there were too many different people to deal with. There was little communications between the different crews. The owner did the initial visit and signed the contract. The demolition crew had its own foreman. The metal roof installation crew had another foreman. There was a third crew that installed the guttering. There was a project manager on site at times. Finally, there was another person that collected payments. These various players did not communicate well with each other , but were quick to blame one another for problems.
Description of Work: I hired CRC Roofing to remove a 25 year old shingle roof and replace it with a standing seem metal roof. They were also to replace any damaged fascia and soffit, replace the wood soffit with metal in one section, replace the gutters, and add leaf guards. The contract was signed on 10/14/2011 with a start date of 10/24/2011 and a duration of approximately one week.

 + -1 moreThese guys came out and were very impressive.. They stayed late to finish installation of new downspouts and gutters. They also fixed some rotten facia board and didn't charge me. In addition they added some guttering that made my home look better. It wasn't a perfect install as we had to have a couple of leaks repaired and other adjustments. But Mark and his team were very responsive and did not hesitate to make the repairs.
