All workers arrived as promised and immediately proceeded like a team. There were 5 men on the roof and 2 cleaning up as work proceeded. I was particularly impressed with the manner in which the job went-obviously each one knew his job yet all worked together. The job was completed in one day. The following day a car stopped in front of our home and took pictures of the roof commenting on the color and appearance.

Custom Renovations did a thorough and professional job rebuilding our deck, the majority of which is two stories above the ground. They also replaced our composite shingle roof and numerous plywood panels that formed the substrate. We were extremely pleased with the company's attention to detail. Reviewing the punch list at the end of construction, nothing was left undone and nothing needed rework. They arrived on site punctually and even worked some weekends. They even installed a porta-potty on site so their workers wouldn't need to use our bathrooms. We will definitely use Custom Renovations for future projects (siding, bathroom and kitchen remodel). They were consistent and reliable.

Mark was responsible to and supervising all tasks in one of our home projects lately. He monitored his staff/subcontracted teams to ensure the quality of job and finished the job in a timing manner. He was also responsive to our text messages/phone calls when communication was needed. When one of windows was broken due to manufacturer defect, he removed the broken windows and replaced a new one as soon as it provided by the manufacturer. My wife and I are appreciate all his works and his professional manner. We will consider to work with him in future home projects.

In our experience, you have to assume this about any construction job: It will take longer than it's supposed to and something will go wrong. Also, you're not the contractor's only customer. So, it's maybe most important to hire a contractor who cares about doing the job right, which means they have the necessary skills and don't take on more than they can handle. We got proposals from four contractors, and CRC offered the best combination of experience (including mostly positive reviews), price, availability, and responsiveness. As assumed, the job took longer than it was supposed to, in part because the work crews were smaller than planned. A couple of guys did most of the work, but they were punctual, hard-working and did a good job. Mark routinely checked up on their performance and stayed in touch with us via text or visits. He worked with us on acquiring acceptable materials, and he stuck to his price quotes. We explained our priorities in case we had to drop something to cover unexpected expenses but were able to get everything done within budget. Mark also threw in a couple of extras. The trim had to be pressure-washed for painting, and he pressure-washed the whole house at no additional cost. He painted more than required, and when asked he offered to let us keep some of the building materials (the contract stipulated that he'd keep leftovers). There were some issues between Mark and an employee, who quit midway, which probably contributed to something going wrong: a smallish portion of a wood floor, about 3x7 feet, was rain damaged. (Hence, the B for quality.) Mark readily agreed to take care of it. The original flooring is no longer available, but we believe he tried to get the closest match. Working the repair into his schedule took longer than expected, but when we let him know time was critical, he and his son spent a weekend taking care of it. Despite the frustration of living with a somewhat (not glaring but somewhat) visible error (the flooring), we're pleased to have worked with Mark. We found him to be reasonable, fair and skilled, and we plan on hiring him again. Chris and Melissa Slaymaker

It went very well. The only issue is that it took some time for him to get out to see us. When I contacted him a second time to follow up after some time had lapsed, he replied quickly and made arrangements to see us the next day.

The crew at Custom Renovations Company certainly knows their craft! We recently hired them to construct a carport for our new home, and we were very impressed with the overall experience. We had several conversations with the owner of the company (Mark Steck) to discuss the project and to help us visualize how the carport would integrate with our house's general design. Mark gave detailed explanations that helped us truly understand what was involved, and his answers to our many questions provided us with the certainty to move forward with this project. We were highly impressed with the workmanship and professionalism of everyone involved, and throughout the construction there were ongoing reminders that we had made an excellent choice in hiring Custom Renovations Company. The finished carport is an beautiful addition to our home, and it is so well done that it appears to have always been a part of the house. Their attention to detail is impressive, and an unexpected bonus was that we met several of our new neighbors who stopped by to admire and compliment the construction. Additionally, Mark's crew was very considerate of our needs and committed to making certain that we were pleased with the final product. We highly recommend them.

Another top-notch response and job completion by Mark at Custom Renovations. Mark and his team had previously installed new guttering on our home approximately a year to year and half ago (see my previous reviews). Upon doing my annual leaf removal and gutter cleaning I noticed some gutter guard was missing from a small portion of the gutter near a corner down spot. The location was directly under a large oak tree and could potentially be troublesome for blockages. I could see the section that needed repaired but did not have a ladder tall enough to reach it. I contacted Mark via email on Thursday and within one day he called me to confirm stopping by. He arrived during Friday evening while I was at work to repair the missing gutter guard. The project was completed successfully and I was yet again assured as to why I choose he and his teams to complete projects for us. Another thanks and gratitude for the timely responses and quick fixes over the last two years in doing business with them.

Overall effect of job is very dramatic. House looks and feels like a new house. Very pleased with the work and professionalism, the work area is always cleaned at the end of the day. This is my second remodel job with CRS and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. Very good work, reasonable on costs and will creatively approach your challenges with ideas if you are unsure. Thus was a big job targeted for a Thanksgiving finish. I believe we finished Tusday evening nefore thanksgiving, My friends and family were. Amazed with the outcome.

Mark and 2 helpers showed up on time and took off there shoes to enter the house as it was raining. The day continued with there shoes being removed to enter the house if they had to go outside. The work was completed very professionally any all debris was cleaned up.

Used this contractor twice previously. Owners' (Mark' Steck) demeanor, professionalism, and attention to detail prompted our using him again. Estimate given promptly. Besides himself, Mark used several different personnel to perform various tasks. He personally reworked an area that was not done to his satisfaction. Although it took a while to get all work done (several scheduled appointments were missed due, we believe, to circumstances beyond Marks' control). We were patient because of excellent quality of previous jobs. Our patience was well rewarded (final quality of work excellent). Would we use him again ? Yes! We,ve already recommended him to several acquaintances, including family.

We contracted with Custom Renovations Company, President Mark Steck, for some home renovations, primarily expansion of a room and renovation of a bathroom. Much of the work was accomplished at average to good quality. However, the original schedule was 8 weeks. After starting 3 months late, the job then took an additional 6 months, even though we removed some of the work from the contract so that we could reach completion of the main items. We had some items ?disappear? from our house during the work. Mr. Steck reimbursed us for partial value of the loss?but the fact remains that he had an employee, someone that he was aware had a substance abuse problem and certainly bore watching or at least warning us about, in charge of the work crew. The ceiling in the expanded room had to be blended with the original ceiling. This required 8 attempts and we ended up accepting substandard work in desperation to have our house back. He installed solid wood flooring to be matched to the existing floor in November. When it was uncovered for finishing in March, it turned out he purchased and installed a lower grade wood than the original. We accepted the floor primarily because we did not want to wait for him to remove and replace it. At the end of the job the work was sloppy, leaving paint splatters on floors and other finishes and nails and other construction debris around the exterior of the house, probably due to his desire to finish quickly. During the warranty period we contacted Mr. Steck about honoring his warranty on wiring, the shower floor not draining correctly, and a continued roof leak, all items he was responsible for in the renovation. He asked a question regarding the scope of the problems, and then never responded again in any way. Although he is competent for most construction, we found him unreliable regarding schedule and unwilling to repair mistakes in his construction, especially if those mistakes would be costly to correct. We would not hire Mr. Steck as part of CRC or any organization again.

As with their previous job, work was done on time and to my complete satisfaction. Mark and Robert answered any and all questions regarding purpose of processes, options for processes and easily adjusted the bid for my decision not to stain the concrete as I liked it in its natural state. They worked in the very hot sun and fortunately, the day after completion there was rain to get the grass growth started. There's nothing left for me to do but watch the grass grow ;)

Mark (owner) was very responsive to my initial call/message and gave a fair estimate for the job. He and Robert (his employee) arrived when scheduled and worked steadily until the job was finished. I didn't have to wait around for other jobs to be shuffled with mine as can happen with these things. They scheduled my job so that it would begin when it could be completed in successive days. The work was excellent, they cleaned up each day they worked (another great plus), and improved the garage door motor and antenna installation that existed before the job began. Their promptness, professionalism, and work quality prompted me to hire them immediately for another long-desired project, which I will review separately.

He was very professional, unfortunately the estimate was a little higher that we were expecting but I would definitely look to him for work in the future.

Job was completed same day all drainage issues with previous gutters have been eliminated.

Good solid understructure with joist hangers, correct size joists and spacing. Solid built on site railing with black aluminum stiles. - - was able to start soon after award and when they started, they worked through to the finish.. Job took about 1 week. Happy with the results, they did a very good job with none of the normal contractor drama.

Everything went well. Contractor makes an effort to retain personal contact and satisfaction.

It's hard to say too many good things about Mark. From the time he gave me the estimate, through all of the work they did, I trusted that the quality of his work would be top notch and it was. Mark has great pride in his work; if one of his crew does something sloppy, he catches it and corrects it. Dodging the daily thunderstorms and working in oppressive heat was difficult for them but they excelled in all that they did. I even wanted Mark to take down an old birdhouse that was high on a post in the backyard and install a new one....he quickly offered to do it even though it was outside of the work contract. The most important attributes that I see in Mark is the abiity to trust that he will do what he says and with a very high standard of quality.

We used Custom Renovations to put shingles/gutters on newly-constructed deck covering in 2012 -- they performed an excellent job then -- so when wind tore a piece of siding from the top of one of our highest gables this Spring (completely unrelated to their previous work), I didn't hesitate to call Mark and see if he might be able to replace it...knowing he had the right equipment to reach that height. He responded to my voice message very promptly and based on my description of the task, provided an extremely reasonable quote over the phone plus followed up with written quote via e-mail. He also performed the work equally promptly within days...moreso making it easy for me to leave the piece of siding out so he could fit the job into his schedule when in the area and I didn't even need to be home!

Hiring Mark and his crew culminated a 2 year process of fighting with my builder to repair the water intrusion into my home. After doing my due diligence and checking with several contractors, Mark's company was the only one that consistently responded, were able to do what I needed, and charged a very fair price. From the very start of this project, I was impressed with Custom Renovations. They told me what they were going to do, listened to my input, and responded accordingly. I am pleased to say that after the violent thunderstorms that erupted in Knoxville on July 14th, there is not one drop of water leaking into my home. Hurray Custom Renovations!!!! You cannot go wrong hiring this company. They are a class act and I'd be willing to give them a reference anytime.

Mark knows what excellent looks like and is committed to providing a top quality job. He takes it upon himself to make sure things are done right. He made several helpful suggestions about things that needed to be done. His addition of attic stairs was particularly valuable in our rental since it had very limited storage. When something was not done to our satisfaction he did not hesitate to make it right, however very few things fell in this category. Also Mark and his key employees are experts at almost any facet of renovation. Mark can do almost any job himself and therefore knows what employees and subs need to do to get the job done right. We would hire him again in a heartbeat. Some times our schedule suffered a little, but quality comes first with Mark. I will take that trade any day. Since we are absentee landlords we hired Mark to oversee manage our rental and respond to customer concerns. Mark has our highest recommendation.
