The provider sent two repairmen to inspect my main air conditioning unit. After two hours working on the unit, they had located two holes, one in each coil explaining why the system was running low on coolant. I requested a quote for the repair, only for labor and additional coolant since the parts were covered by the manufacturer warranty. Because a $200+ bill for an evaluation and a quote at $2k+ (without tax) were surprising, I called a different company for a second evaluation. To avoid any bias, I did not mention anything about the first visit. The second company's repairman located one hole within five minutes. I told him about the first evaluation and he spent more time inspecting the second coil to find nothing. He gave me a quote for his emergency visit + fall and winter tune up of the unit + repair + coolant for about $800. Sadly, he also mentioned that I probably got a "zip code quote" which I find outrageous (note: I mentioned the amount for the first quote after he gave me his). I contacted the company about that and never heard back from them on that matter. However they called me later that year to make sure I'll use the coupon I originally bought on Angie's list for an air conditioning unit tune up. I have been waiting for a while before posting this review as I wanted to make sure the repair was done correctly and be fair with Air Serv when submitting my evaluation. Over the course of the summer 2014, the unit worked as expected, cooling when needed and running efficiently. A late fall check up revealed that the unit was still full of coolant, therefore no more (imaginary) holes in the system. Based on this experience, I truly believe that Air Serv' did not perform a great job on my system and had also questionable motives when preparing the quotes. My rating reflects my experience with this company.

We truly apologize that there have been issues with your system. These issues were never brought to my attention, and we have not been able to identify who you may have spoken with in our Company. The technician we sent to you r home performed an electronic leak search along with a dye leak search. The dye testing will identify the smallest of leaks that may not be picked up by an electronic leak search. So the time for the tasks he performed is normal for a thorough leak search. I can only assume the other technician did not perform another dye test and only used an electronic leak search. I am confident that our technician found all of the leaks in your coils and would gladly send him back at no charge to meet with the other technician and yourself to validate. It is disturbing to discover the other Company is mis-informed about our company's pricing. Our policy has always been one of Flat Rate Pricing, this you can find on our company’s web site, and in turn, prevents such tactics. Once again, I apologize we haven't been able to help you on your issues; however, I would love to hear from you and hopefully the opportunity to win you back, or at least prove we only have your best interest at heart. I was contacted by the rental agent that I use for one of my rental properties that the heat pump was not working. Through the agency, I was put into contact with Air Serv. They evaluated the system and provided me with three options including repair to the old system and replacing the old system. In looking at the cost of each, I decided to replace the system. Air Serv provided me a detailed list and explanation of what they would provide. I had personal contact with several people at the company from the technician, the sales person and the office staff. All were very knowledgeable and easy to work with. The project was done as described on the estimates. When it was discovered that the system that I had selected was on back order, Air Serv upgraded the system to a better one that they had on hand without additional charge so that the tenant would have heat.
Description of Work: The heat pump in one of my rental properties needed repair. After looking at the options, I decided to install a new system. Aire Serv did the work.

The technician certainly knew his trade and was polite and courteous. However, there are two things that I found to be unprofessional: First, when he was examining the upstairs A/C unit in the yard, he noticed that the downstairs unit beside it had a manufacturer's date in the late 90's. He asked if I had it serviced, which I replied that I had. He then stated that he believed that, at that age, the heat exchanger had a hole in it and asked if he could take the lid off to show me. I explained that it worked perfectly fine, but he insisted that he was certain that, at this age, the heat exchanger has a hole in it. I asked if that would be an easy repair if it did have a hole. He stated that if it did, the entire unit would need to be replaced and he was confident that it did have a hole in it. (The unit is not rusted, dented, or otherwise present a bad appearance from the outside - it was simply the manufacturers label that he referred to as to why he was confident it had a hole.) I then asked if that must cost a couple of thousand dollars, right? He replied that it would be $5 to $6,000 to replace it and then began taking screws out of the top to show me the suspected hole that he was sure must exist. I asked him to replace the screws and not take the lid off. After all, there is truth to the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." He then asked if I had a carbon monoxide monitor, stating that if the heat exchanger has a hole in it, it could be deadly. I replied that I did have a carbon monoxide monitor. He then asked if the detector was upstairs where we sleep (and it is). Keep in mind, that was the downstairs unit he was asking about ... He then mentioned that would not be a concern until the winter months, as that is part of the heater function. Polite as he was, he was certainly committed to making a big sell on a new heating / air conditioning unit that works fine simply based on the date of manufacture on the outside of the unit. That, in my opinion, was quite unprofessional. Secondly, I had checked out the reputation of Aire Serve on Angie's List before contacting them. Your site stated that they give a 15% military discount. I felt like that would help offset the extra $129 for it being a weekend call, but never mentioned the discount to the technician until after he gave me an estimate in person. Before the technician began the repairs on the broken unit, he gave me an estimate on the cost of replacing the capacitor, which he briefly showed me on his iPad - $326. I approved the repairs and, as he was returning to his truck to get the capacitor, I showed him my military identification card and asked for the discount that I saw was mentioned on Angie's List. I asked if need the number from my ID Card, but he stated he did not and would give a 15% military discount. (That was great to hear, as that would have reduced the amount by $48.90 to a total bill of around $277.) After the repairs were completed, he went to his van to fill out the invoice so I could pay for the repairs. After several minutes, he returned to my front door with the bill ... $328.09 - almost exactly the original estimate BEFORE I mentioned the military discount. When I asked what happened to the military discount, he pointed to a line on the invoice that showed that he had reduced the price by 15%. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that while he was in the van, the cost somehow increased 15% (service call $129 + capacitor replacement $256.98 = $385.98 - 15% = $328.09). Bear in mind, the technician did not know that I was military when he quoted the $326 repair estimate originally (in my mind, I immediately thought that was great, as the discount would bring the cost down to the upper $200's). If he had originally quoted $385.98 as the repair cost, this would not be a question. I decided not to complain to the technician, but to let others using Angie's List know that the military discount will with this company appears to be simply a label they use to make people believe their service in uniform has been honored. I caution anyone using this company to 1) ask for the estimate in writing before they begin the repairs and 2) do not mention that you request a military discount until after you have the estimate in writing, and 3) don't let them talk you into replacing a perfectly good heating / air conditioning unit simply based on its age. In light of these aspects of my experience with Aire Serv of Knoxville, I will never use them again in the future and also would not recommend them to repair systems of my friends, family and neighbors. $
Description of Work: The air conditioner for the upstairs part of my house quite working, blowing out warm air. The technician checked the system outside and found the capacitor had gone bad. He replaced the capacitor and checked the charge (which was fine), restoring the A/C back to normal.

They had to trouble shoot to figure out the problem which required them to come out to our house about 3 times. They wanted to not make us pay for any unnecessary work, and they figured out the problem with no extra costs. Very professional and high integrity.

We were very impressed with the office and the technician. The girl that set up the service appointment was friendly and efficient. (unfortunately, I can't remember her name) Our technician, Jeff Combs, was also very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. We were totally satisfied with Aire Serv and highly recommend them.

Aire Serv met my expectations. I had to schedule service for a week out. Aire Serv had to reschedule the afternoon of the appointment since it started to rain with no chance of clearing up. I rescheduled out another week and the technician arrived on time. When the lady at Aire Serv called to reschedule me, she offered me a free fall tune-up as well for the inconvenience. Apparently the coils on the AC unit were in really dirty condition (who knows the last time they were cleaned??) so I'm glad we had this tune-up done.

After searching Angie's List, we called Aire Serv to get an appointment to have our HVAC unit inspected and repaired. The heat was running constantly and our electric bill had tripled! Once we ruled out the new digital meter put in by the electric company as being the culprit, we tried to contact the vendor who sold us the original (brand new) unit less than 2 years ago. Not surprisingly, they had gone out of business. We paid for a 10 year warranty on parts AND labor but the labor was never submitted (we didn't know that, of course). We called a local company and got a very pleasant, knowledgeable customer service agent, Ann, who set up an appointment for us the same day. When the gentleman (Kevin) was able to come out even sooner, we were delighted. Kevin spent several hours at our home troubleshooting and repairing the HVAC unit. My husband stayed with him and assisted whenever he could. Everything was friendly, professional, and the immediate problem was solved. Just this morning I again called the office to arrange for someone to come examine the ductwork, per Kevin's recommendation and our own suspicions, as we think there is a problem there, as well. Again, I got a very pleasant response from Ann and we arranged for an appointment in 2 weeks (our choice to wait as there are other things on our calendar!). We invested in an inspection contract whereby Aire Serv will come out twice a year to check our unit to be sure everything is running at peak efficiency. The price was reasonable and the peace of mind is priceless. All in all, the experience was a great one. We will continue to go forward with Aire Serv for all our HVAC needs. My thanks to Angie's List for a great reference! Well worth the monthly cost of membership!

The technician was polite and professional. THe company maintained great contact and the schedule and made several coordination/heads up calls.
Description of Work: They diagnoses problems with two heat pumps. One had a slow leak and failing contactor. The contactor was replaced and a seal kit (sealant) recharge was applied to the unit. On the second unit the main outdoor fan had failed. It was replaced along with a marginal starter capacitor.

My gas furnace stopped heating as the weather predictions were for extreme drops in temperature. The service person came out on a Saturday and was very polite and efficient. He was punctual and explained the problem thoroughly. I would recommend this service provider.

They were great! The ductwork only took two days. We did the work in stages and they were very flexible. They were very kind and very personable. They seem to know what they were doing. When something wasn't working or if we had questions, they came right back out. They explained everything in layman's terms too.
Description of Work: They came out before and after an energy evaluation. They sealed out some ductwork, improved the efficiency of our house and added some insulation. They also redid some of our ductwork.

The entire process took only 2 days and there were two techs who did the work. The techs were very polite - I've never dealt with nicer people. They worked hard and we would recommend them to anyone! They were beyond "A" - they went beyond our expectations! The price was reasonable as well.

A project of this magnitude and cost, completed in the depths of winter with no central heat, is miserable under any conditions. HOWEVER, I could not have been happier with Aire Serv. They had previously fixed on several occasions a very old and faulty HVAC unit that went out at least once every summer and winter. So when we got a call from our housesitter on a Sunday evening in January, as we were driving back to Knoxville from Philadelphia, saying that the heat was not working in the house, I called Aire Serv. I knew I would just have to leave a message and hopefully hear back the next day. To my surprise, I received a call back within just a few minutes from Jack Mooney. He said he'd be out to take a look first thing the next day. The diagnosis was grim: HVAC unit was DOA and the ductwork under the house was a disaster. No insulation under the floor and the insulation in the attic old and rotting. The prognosis: entirely new HVAC system and all ductwork and insulation required. Having lived in the house for seven years and known how poorly the HVAC system performed (and how expensive - on gas), and how cold/hot the house could get, I felt confident in this assessment. Jack crawled into all the nasty spaces and photographed the ducts and insulation to demonstrate what he was talking about. He also carefully went over the options for different kinds of HVAC systems - e.g. heat pumps, dual fuel, etc. - and told us about the TVA energy solutions program that would do an in-home evaluation, work with Aire Serv on a plan to make our house as efficient as possible, and provide financing for the work that would be embedded in our monthly KUB payment. The estimate was of course staggering: a huge cost. We got another estimate, which did come in a bit lower, but I just didn't have the confidence in the company that I felt with Aire Serv. And I also couldn't forget that Jack had called me immediately - on a Sunday - and came out the next day, bringing with him three space heaters to loan us so we didn't freeze to death in the meantime. The work took longer than we would have liked, but this was not Aire Serv's fault. It snowed and rained and hailed. It was freezing cold. The weather could not have been worse for us (without heat) or for them (working in the mess). They had to tear out the entire system and rebuild it from scratch. But every morning John and his team showed up and worked their backsides off all day. They were always pleasant and professional and even brought donuts and coffee to share. When they discovered that a portion of the house couldn't be accessed from the crawlspace (it had been a garage at an earlier stage) they knocked off the cost of insulating that square footage. They ultimately threw in the cost of the vapor shield for free. They spread black plastic out on the snow and got to work wrapping the new ducts. And they also did something I really appreciate: they moved the HVAC unit entirely from its previous location in our back patio, where it was a noisy eyesore, to a side of the house where it fits much better. They installed the new unit beautifully - clearing brush and putting down nice gravel. This was an enormously complex project completed very professionally under really difficult conditions weather-wise. In particular I have to say that John was a great manager and team leader - he was on top of every detail and always professional and positive, even when he was dealing with serious headaches from the terrible weather and other unanticipated challenges. I almost missed them when the work was done and they were no longer around every day! Recently, we had a mysterious electrical problem arise that our electrician just couldn't solve. He finally determined that the problem might be in the attic, where some wires were hanging around. Because Aire Serv had done extensive insulation and we didn't want to damage it, we called them. John came out within a few days with an electrician, and they diagnosed a problem that had stumped our previous electrician completely. It turned out that the origin of the problem did NOT have anything to do with work Aire Serv had done previously. But they went ahead and fixed it for us anyway. And didn't charge us a dime. We love these guys!! .And we love our new system.
Description of Work: Insulated crawlspace beneath the floor; insulated entire attic; installed vapor shield in crawlspace; removed old heating/cooling ductwork and insulated/installed all new ductwork; installed one new intake and vent; removed old HVAC unit and installed new crawlspace entry; installed new HVAC unit on different side of house. Facilitated in-home energy evaluation audit by TVA and approval for financing of all work through TVA energy right solutions program.

Every member of this team - including the owner - were top notch professionals. Each came on time, as scheduled, driving a company vehicle and in uniform, so there was no mistaking who they worked for. They were able to clearly explain my options after very carefully examining by current system and home needs. All of my questions and concerns were listened to and addressed. The entire installation process took two and one half days. Each member of the staff always introduced themselves, let me know they were here and let me know when they were leaving. The work was done without any visible mess. No one entered my home without putting on booties. They immediately cleaned up any mess when inside my home. Each day ended with a complete cleaning of the areas outside. They each stayed on task and were very polite. In the middle of day two the propane company showed up unannounced to remove the old tank. Not only did AireServ move their trucks and all the duct work they were preparing to install, they moved (towed) a vehicle my husband has been working on that was in the way - all with a "no problem" and a smile. They were wonderful. My new system is wonderful! I had used AireServ for to care for my old HVAC system and always received wonderful service. I could not be happier with the service they provide.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced all duct work. Installed barrier and new insulation under the house. Removed oil propane furnace and air conditioner. Installed new all electric HVAC.

The guy that came out was nice. I dont think the coupon that they had offered was accurate as to what the services they were willing to perform were. I wouldn't use them again, I think their main goal was to try and sell new air conditioners.
Description of Work: They came out and replaced screw in the unit. Changed the air conditioning freon.
