Did an amazing job.
Description of Work: Dear Angie's List: writing a review and testimonial for Aceess Garage Door Company. This morning I woke up and got ready for work and discovered my garage door would not work. I called Access Garage Door Company and informed them of my trouble and requested an appointment for garage door inspection. To my surprise and within 10 minutes a service email tech pulled into my driveway and begun troubleshooting. Services Tech was able to locate the problem and get my garage door operational. Amazing lead time, fantastic customer service, and just good folks to work with. Highly recommend this company. Thankful to be out of my garage and on my way to work.

The service was wonderful. A friend of mine recommended this company to me, and they came out right away. The technician knew what he was doing, got the job done quickly, and only charged me $80. He checked the other door to make sure everything was okay with that door without charging any extra!

They no-longer do that service, since they’ve sold that part of their business. However, overall, the experience was pretty good. Their price was negotiable. We had dealt with the owner, and the salespeople were very nice. The installer was also very good! We’re still using the insert, and it’s been working without any problems.

The kids next door drove my grandsons power wheels truck into the garage door sensor & the garage door quit opening & closing. I called Access Door Company thinking the sensor was bad. They came out as scheduled. The tech, Jessie worked on the door. He got the unit reprogrammed and working, except that it only worked with the sensor cover left off. He stated that he was not able to figure out why the door wouldn't work with the sensor cover on. His suggestion to me was to just leave the cover off until the sensor quits working all together & then replace it. I paid him the $88.00 and he left. I couldn't understand how the sensor could be bad if it was working without the cover on it. After thinking about it for a couple of hours, I called the company back & spoke with Chasity. I told her that I just wanted to go ahead & order the sensor because I did not want to leave it half done. I did question why they were double in price over another quote I received. Chasity became insulted & started screaming at me. The main comment I remember from that call was her telling me that the job wouldn't have been left half done if I was not to cheap to order the part. There were a total of 5 phone calls from from Chasity with a final message telling me that she was not going to order the sensor until I called her back, spoke with her, and told her I wanted to order the sensor. Jessie then called about an hour later, said he spoke with his boss, & they were going to order the part & install it for free. I explained to him that yes while I was undecided about ordering the part, I had no problem paying for it & I was not insulting his work. It turns out that my brother who came to visit, took a look at the sensor, realigned the sensor & surprise-surprise, it functions properly with the cover on & no additional issues. Two to three weeks later, Chasity called back & my brother told her that I did not need their services. She responded with "It would have been nice for her to call & let us know." I never got my receipt that was promised in the mail either.

Response from Access Garage Doors of Chattanooga
My name is Jesse Cox, Owner/Operator of Access Door Company. I am very familiar with the interaction between my company and Member. From the original phone order of service to the final phone calls. I am not the service tech who worked on her system. This is one of the many things simply not true in her review. The service tech she refers to as “inexperienced in his business” has over 5 years experience with servicing garage door and opener systems for this company. Well qualified and very personable guy. I have reviewed this situation today with the tech and he agrees there is nothing more we could have done and stands by his diagnosis/ work. I noticed on Member’s review in the “Grade” portion she gave an “F” in responsiveness and punctuality. Member’s original call was at 2:37pm on Thursday March 15. The tech arrived “Before Noon” Monday March 19 as Member requested. I know this because we record all this information so that I may enforce strict guidelines on my employees of responsiveness and punctuality. An additional bit of information is that we are the only Garage Door Company in this area to offer “SAME DAY SERVICE OR IT’S FREE”. The brand (Hormann) of opener system he worked on was one that is a German product. The tech has to work on these brand openers on an extremely regular basis. And has seen the same issues before. If I understand Member’s review correctly, she is trying to say the final fix to the unit was realigning the photo eyes. Realigning photo eyes is a very simple and minor task. Any homeowner can do this easily (unless something more is wrong). They are designed this way. You aim the sensors on each side of the door towards each other until an indication light illuminates on each sensor. No specialized skills needed for this task. If this was the issue, the technician could have fixed in 10 seconds, literally. He tried lining the sensors up and sensors seemed to not be able to “see” each other like normal. Took shields off in front of Member and showed her how it was supposed to work versus how it would only work with shields off. He then recommended a new set of sensors to “fix” the problem. We would need to special order them in. She then expressed that she did not want to spend that much money (additional 65-75.00). He told her the alternative was then to use the sensors without the shields. We would not charge to come back for additional trip if she called soon to order them. Diagnosis and Service Completed at this point. We cannot make people do our recommendations. Only diagnose, service and make recommendations. We also advise people who are trying to save money, of how they can “get by” for the time being. Even if we miss the sell on the parts. Chasity has been with my company ever since we started almost a decade ago. She deals regularly with service and sales needs on a day to day basis. The day Member called, I was sitting directly next to Chasity in the same office as we were bidding a very large job. Member was requesting we lower our price on the parts she needed. Chasity respectfully explained that she could not. Chasity gets asked this same question probably 5-7 times a day and knows how to respond to where the customer is not insulted and we are still concerning to their needs. Member then become irate and yelled implying we are overcharging for parts just to make a killing. Chasity placed Member on hold. I then looked up our cost to see if we had room to adjust price down. I told Chasity to explain we could not due to how we buy that particular brand. The homeowner then insisted that we come back out for free to install parts if she ordered the parts offline from another company. It is our policy that we will not charge for another trip to a home if we are out of stock of a particular part. In other words we feel that it is not fair to charge homeowner extra just because we don’t have it on the truck the first trip, no matter how “special order” it is to us. But of course we do this as a courtesy because you are buying parts from us. Member then yelled something to the affect of “Fine! Whatever Then! Just get it done!” Then she hung up. We were extremely unclear on what to do, so I had Chasity call her back. She did not answer. Chasity left a polite, calm voicemail telling her that we could not proceed until she called us back and told us that she clearly wanted to order the part. This was special order and I did want to be sure the customer would take it when it arrived. We also told the customer we would rush it. She did not call back and we did not want to leave the situation in the air so I had the tech that visited with her to call her back. At this time she did say she definitely wants us to order the part. We ordered the part, rushed it, received it. We then called to schedule install. Someone picked up the phone, someone said quietly “it’s the garage door place”. They then hung up on us. We called back and a man answered. He stated they did not need the parts anymore. Chasity did reply, as I would have, saying “It would have been nice to know that before we rush ordered them on her word”. By the way, this is exactly why these days companies like my own have to take deposits on orders. There were 3 people including myself involved in this situation. None of us see that anything more could have been done to make this customer happy except giving away free services for absolutely no good reason. But as a small local business owner I truly do strive to awe every single customer with excellent customer service and gratitude. I hope you see this with the following offer. I want to, at no charge, install an entire new opener system. This is not just the sensors you need/needed. Entire new ALL AMERICAN MADE system with our LIFETIME INSTALLATION WARRANTY. You can call anytime when you get ready and we will be out to install SAME DAY. Jesse Cox President Access Door Company 7335 Hixson Pike Hixson, TN 37343 www.AccessDoorCompany.com

Company was one of three estimates received. All three estimates were close in price. Access Doors was selected because they gave the most specific estimate and were able to completr the work in the best timeframe. Also because they are a local company and we like to patronize local businesses whenever possible. They were responsive, prompt and efficient from estimate to work completion. They did what they said they were going to, cleaned up afterward, and there were no hidden or surprise fees. We were quite satisfied with the overall experience.

Courteous, thorough, and helpful. Doors now operate like new and vinyl sealer has done great in insulating the garage and the house.
Description of Work: Repairs to 2 overhead garage doors equipped with openers. Doors had probably been in service over 20 years, Doors were wobbling when in operation and were probably in danger of locking up. Repairman replaced all rollers and pulleys and applied lubricant.
