Mid State AC did a fantastic job cleaning every vent and return in my two story house. They even checked all the duct work uner the house and inspected my heat pump. I highly recommend this company.

I had previously bought an Angie's List Big Deal for an HVAC tune-up on both of our systems. The man who came to perform the service was not an honest person, and my experience resulted in my poor review of Mid-State. The owner of Mid-State, Robert Clark, was very concerned and called me personally to address what had happened. At the time Mr. Clark called me the dishonest serviceman was already gone from the company. As a small business owner Mr. Clark puts a high value on reputation and service and he asked for another chance--which I was happy to give him. The Mid-State service providers were total professionals, on time, thorough, HONEST, and I was very, very pleased to see how much this company cares about preserviing their good reputation.

We called a couple of providers from Angie's list. The other people came out, saw what system we had, and quoted prices to replace it. Mid State was the only company to do a load test. As it turns out we did need the same size a/c as we had, but the other guys just guessed. Mid State had the best price of any of the companies, were very professional, and the system is working great.

I have tried 2 of the other AC companies in town and was't "happy as could be" with one, and the other did a good job but promised to follow up and never did. So when my AC quit blowing cold air I got on Angies List and found that Mid State had really high reviews, figured I'd give them a chance. I called and explained my situation and was told it would be either really late that day or in the afternoon the next day before they could get out, I was ok with this however one of the other companies I used has a 4 hour window where they will arrive, I sort of expected that but it wasn't a deal breaker. I set an appointment up for the next day and they showed up in the 2 hour window I was given. I did receive a call prior saying they were on their way if it was a good time. The van pulled up and two guys got out and I let them in, explained my issue and they were very friendly and courteous. They did the whole disposable shoe cover thing to protect my floors and were just very friendly. They went out to my unit outside and I followed to try to get a glimpse and pickup some tips and they were very welcoming, pointed out what they were doing and answered questions I had along the way. They did something no other company had done, pulled out a freon leak sniffer and found a leak, pointed out where it was leaking and why it started to leak. None of the other 2 companies I used had even pulled this type of tool out. The repair guys explained they could fix it temporarily but not guarantee how long it would last, or they could replace the parts inside but the cost wasn't worth it. I pulled the trigger and did the temp fix knowing I will have to replace the outside unit in the near future. They filled the unit up with freon, and explained to me (because I was curious) how the unit works, why it freezes up, how they know when they have enough freon inside, etc. They left and my AC was blowing cold and it was great. Overall a great experience, the cost to me was a little higher then my experience with the other two companies, but it was close. With the increase in quality of service it makes up for the cost difference. I would/will use these guys again.
Description of Work: Refiled freon on air conditioning unit outside. Explained to me where the unit was leaking and educated me on the problem. The solution is temporary and he made sure I knew this ahead of time.

The guys showed up on time and were very professional. The evaluated the situation and decided on a short-term fix until they could get back with the proper equipment. There was a minor mix-up on the return date but it was nothing serious. They showed up a second time and did a great job. My AC unit has been working well ever since. I would highly recommend Mid State Air Conditioning & Heating to any one I know. They were courteous, professional and did a great job. I'll be using them for all my AC and heating work in the future.

I originally used Mid State Air through a coupon I bought from Angie's List early in 2013. The coupon was for a insulation inspection. I was given a list with prices of what needed to be done and they told me that I should contact MTE about their energy right program that would get me a credit, for having this work done, on my electric bill. I had to wait a couple of months to save up the money for the work and to contact MTE for their inspection. The work was done very well and very quickly. The best thing about it, is that having the insulation increased and the duct work sealed allowed us to actually live in the second floor of our house this past summer. It keep the heat down and the a/c unit was able to keep it cool up there.
Description of Work: They increased the insulation in our attic, sealed the duct work, and repaired the insulation in our crawl space.

Excellent experience. These guys are THE go-to guys for AC/Duct work - I'm convinced. We got 3 quotes on this work and Mid State not only came in with the most reasonable price, but in talking with their estimator EVERYTHING was explained and well thought out. Several companies gave us a vague description of what they would do and a 'we'll just fix it' for $3000. No thanks. Mid State performed all the work and came back several times to adjust the airflow so our house is now just right. There were never any complaints to come back and adjust - they actually told us they'd come back as many times as necessary to get it right. The estimator and technicians were all super friendly and professional and (my personal favorite) were more than happy to answer all my numerous questions about exactly what they were doing and why. ALSO, last but not least - I personally spoke to the owner several times while setting up and completing our job - same fabulous service. These guys are really concerned about making the customer happy and that's unique these days. Cannot recommend this company enough!
Description of Work: They rearranged our existing duct work to more adequately heat/cool our entire house (previously we had several rooms that were not receiving air well) specifically a room that was an addition and has never retained temperature well. They also sealed all joints in duct work, vents, and returns.

I was able to make an appointment quickly. I used two coupons I had purchased through Angie's list, plus I had the additional pan installed. I was given an estimate on the overall price, over the phone, and they kept to their estimate. The 2 gentlemen that performed the services arrived on time, and were very polite. They did not leave a mess. They worked around the mess I had given that we just moved in. The job was a dirty one, given that we just scraped popcorn ceiling off the entire house, but they were able to keep everything clean, while working around my toddler son and I. They were not satisfied with the standard single switch installed in the catch pan, and at no extra cost, they installed an additional sensor. The guys even tried to work quietly once I had put my son down for a nap. I would highly recommend this company and will definitely call them in the future for any A/C or heater issues.

PLEASE READ!!! A second opinion that saved me thousands!!! I live in an upscale guard gated neighborhood that seems to attract increased rates and quotes the minute a service technician drives through the gates. I am a single mother of two who acquired this large and beautiful DEBT through divorce and just because I live in it does not mean I have money to throw away. After having my current heating/air company come see why my air conditioner (one of SIX) was not cooling, I felt the familiar instinct that I was being mislead even though I had come to trust this company. I was told that I had a leak in my coils and the internal pan was rusted out. I would need to at least replace the coil and pan that still required expensive old freon or consider a whole new unit. I am very hands on (out of necessity) and can generally diagnose the problem myself, but was very busy and hoping not to add this new repair to my current load. Without boring you with all the details, there were several things the technician told me that did not add up. He left the unit completely open and exposed and said he would bring another technician out and provide me with estimates for the repair options. We had a 3-day Holliday weekend yet I never heard back from the tech. Come Tuesday morning, I decided to take it as an opportunity to get a second opinion. I went to my Angie's List account and began researching alternative providers. I was amazed to see such high ratings and the large amount of reviews for this company. When I clicked on the reviews I was surprised to see an "F" rating and curiously read the review. Being not the most trusting customer, I related quickly with the complaint yet was impressed by the manner in which the owner responded.. However, an "F" was bad and I began researching other companies. Just as I was about to try a different company, a little voice in my head couldn't stop thinking about Mid State and that I needed to give them a chance. I signed up for a service call on their website (which ironically did not have an option for Angie's List under referrals). I was contacted within minutes and was offered an appointment for that same afternoon. I did not tell them it was for a second opinion. I simply said that I was hoping to only need some freon added to the system. I received a 2 hour window and was called again when the tech was en route. A very clean, pleasant, easy to understand and communicate with gentleman by the name of Eric Whitehead knocked at my door within minutes. Eric was amazing. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable of his trade, but he was also incredibly tolerant of my annoying need to hover, learn and help diagnose. In the end, it was helpful because it would have taken him twice as long to find the end of the clogged drain pipe that I had buried underground and routed to a catch basin which had filled with mud keeping the drain from being able to drain; therefore backing up into the system and overflowing into the emergency tray who's drain was running uphill; therefore filling and triggering the shut off switch. He checked the freon and honestly explained that it was full so I did NOT have a freon leak. The unit is on the third floor and Eric went up and down three flights of stairs dumping buckets of water he had wet vac'd while having to work in the 90 degree sauna conditions of the attic . He wax pleasant and never failed to put on and off his booty shoe covers every time he re-entered the house. I could go on and on about this wonderful gentleman but most important is that he had every opportunity to take advantage and dream up far more costly repairs, but he DIDN'T. He was honest! He also, against normal policy to always complete a job and receive payment on the same day, he wanted to confirm his diagnoses by allowing the system to dry out overnight and return the following day. He again, was pleasant and punctual, however, I had meetings and could not stay and wait for him to finish. I felt so comfortable that I allowed him to complete the job without me there. While gone, he could have come up with new problems with the system and/or completed tasks that weren't truly necessary. However, when I returned later that evening, I found a beautifully handwritten note explaining everything Eric had done to confirm that the system was successfully repaired from work done the prior day and what to expect and look for as the unit resumed it's full function. He also thanked ME for my help the prior day! This experience was such a pleasant surprise. Had I read that one bad review and not considered the unusually large amount of positive reviews, I would have never discovered this awesome company. Not only was I totally impressed with the way the owner responded to the negative review, but I was equally impressed, if not more, with his technician, Eric, and the educated, cost effective, honest, neat and overall pleasant service he provided. I haven't even been given a bill but based on the experience so far and not having to unnecessarily spend thousands to replace yet another coil and/or unit; I am quite confident I will be pleasantly surprised with the charges as well. Thank you. Eric Whitehead, Mid State and Angie's List for renewing my faith that there is still a provider out there that is more proud of the service they provide than the money they can make. P.S. I still haven't heard back from my original provider (Synergy) who left me with an exposed non functioning unit in 90 degree weather a week ago!
Description of Work: Researched and diagnosed the cause of my air unit not cooling. Discovered it was clogged drain line. Corrected the lines traveling uphill and rerouted the drain line outside to avoid clogging again in the future.

My AC unit quit blowing cold air in the afternoon. I called Mid State Air Conditioning and Heating and they said someone would call me in the morning. The service man called early the next morning and said he would be able to come by that afternoon. He called me about 30 minutes prior to his arrival so I left work and he arrived a few minutes after I got home. He took a look at the unit and explained what the problem was. He was very professional, very thorough and explained everything in detail. The repair was done within an hour of his arrival and the cost was very reasonable under the circumstances. He could have charged me several hundred dollars more and I wouldn't have known the difference. I've had that happen before where an HVAC repairman charged me over $500 for what I was told should have cost about half that amount. So, I was very pleased this that. And, on top of all that, I didn't pay a thing at the time, they billed me and I paid later.

I purchased a big deal from Angie's List and their services turned out great. I got them out three times. The time before the most recent time they came out they did not even charge me, so they are very nice. The time before that I had my free diagnostic, which saved me $65, but then it cost me $383 to replace the universal motor. The time before the most recent time they replaced the capacitor. They are fair, they are honest, they are on time and I would highly recommend them. They are fantastic. The gentleman that owns the company is also very honest and he is available if you needed to talk to him.

I cannot stress enough how very pleased I am with the exceptional staff of Mid-State Air Conditioning and Heating from Fairview, TN. I had the fortune of dealing with several levels of the company--Service Tech, Comfort Advisor, and Installers. Each one of them were professional and courteous. They were all dressed professionally in business casual attire with company logos and colors. They each respected our home by slipping on shoe covers each time they had to come into the home. My experience began with an old HVAC unit which was 14-years old when we bought the home a little over a year ago. It wasn't keeping up very well then and this year it just finally gave up. It had stopped cooling entirely. I joined Angie's List to find the best possible company to contact. Several companies were highly rated, but Mid-State really stood out with more reviews and nearly all of them were excellent. They also offered a coupon that paid for the initial service call. I called Mid-State and was greeted by a very pleasant admin who was so friendly and helped me without any pressure. She was able to schedule a Service Tech for me that same day which surprised the heck out of me. She gave me a 2-hour window and the Service Tech called about 30 minutes prior to arrival and was right on time. The tech, Mike, was friendly and very helpful. He walked me through everything he was doing and clearly explained it all. I was very comfortable with what was being done and how it was being done. When the freon leak location was discovered and the size of it determined, I was given very clear options. First it was explained my unit was using an old freon chemical (R22) that is being phased out so it was getting more expensive. Option 1: I could have the until recharged for approximately $200-$400 to possibly get me through the season. Option 2: I could have the leaking evaporator coil repaired/replaced for approximately $2500 (not something I believed wise given the age of the unit and Mike agreed but stressed he was not trying to sell me a unit). Option 3: I could replace the unit with a new one. It took me about 3 seconds to determine that my best option was to get a new unit. This was my honest expectation before calling Mid-State given the age of the unit and its truly poor performance over last summer and this one. Plus my energy bills over the summer last year and this year were astronomical peaking gat nearly $500 per month for a 2000 sq ft ranch. Mike said he could call the office for me to put me in touch with a Comfort Advisor who could size my home which would determine the appropriate size unit to get. I had mentioned several times that we did not believe the current unit was large enough for the home as a couple of additions had been done before we bought the property. Within 5 minutes I was on the schedule for the next day for Comfort Advisor Chris to visit. Chris called about half an hour before the scheduled window and showed up right on time. That's twice in a row now that Mid-State was right on time. That means a lot as it shows commitment to promises made. Chris was so friendly and courteous and easy to talk to. He explained everything plainly and I was so at ease. He toured the home with me getting an understanding of the layout and identifying the challenges. He went into the attic and into the crawlspace, too. He was extremely thorough. During much of his visit where he had to take measurements after our tour together, he told me to just relax inside and he would come back when his measurements were taken and was ready to discuss the process. He used the Manual J which I read was exactly what a true professional would be using (get rid of anyone who doesn't). Chris sat with me and explained his process. He had drawn a diagram of the house, taken measurements all around, determined the square footage, window spaces, and a host of other figures and calculations that were entered on a worksheet. The worksheet clearly showed the mathematical process. I asked for a copy of both and Chris gladly let me make them (I promised not to share the worksheet as it is Mid-State's). Now we knew the BTU size of the home and could select the correct HVAC system (4 ton unit was needed). He told me the brand (Amana) and model (Xeon) and cost ($8900 for high-efficiency HVAC gas pack, balancing, digital thermostat, 1st yr-svc, attic door cover and knee wall insulation over garage, 20-yr warranty on heat exchanger, 10-yr warranty on all other parts, labor, and 410A). Let me stress there were zero, zilch, nada, no high-pressure sales tactics! It was really quite simple once we knew the right size and type (high-efficiency gas pack). He showed me what they had, we chatted about brands and manufacturing and warranties (theirs is super!), and I went with the best. It was a few more days before I could arrange the necessary financing. I did some additional 3rd-party brand research. Amana consistently rated at the top with the likes of Maytag. I joined Consumer Reports and went through their HVAC guides and reviews. I was clearly not being misled and Mid-State was using top-rated brands and models with a warranty that most others can't even touch (Maytag was only one I found that did better at 12 years). With financing arranged, I contacted Chris who was able to get the installers there within 2 days (my fault; otherwise, would have been very next day which is awesome). Chris came by with a contract, we signed, and everything was good to go. It took the installers 2 days to complete the job. However, they had the new HVAC in place and cooling the place down on the very first day. The 2nd day was spent running the extra ductwork, installing the extra vent, sealing all the ductwork and vent connections, and taking away the old unit. I was so excited after the first day that I took a picture of the new HVAC and posted it to Facebook! Folks, if you live in the Middle Tennessee area and you need residential HVAC help, you cannot go wrong with Mid-State Air Conditioning and Heating. Their motto is "Fixed right or it's free".
Description of Work: Examined 15-year old HVAC unit, discovered major leak, got professional out to do house sizing for new unit, sold new 4-ton unit (top-end per other reviews I read) including balancing of duct work (2 new lines run to restore 1 vent and add another one), provided additional attic insulation over finished garage as well as attic door cover.

Description of Work: Contacted Mid State to have make appointment to have someone take a look at ac. Gave me an appointment within hours. Asked them how much the Freon would cost and representative said she did not have prices in the office, only technicians had the price. Asked her to contact the technician for the price prior to coming over because the service call was going to be $ 65.00. Told her I have had this problem before and even if it turned out to be something other than Freon I would still like to know the price. She said she would not be able to contact the technician and call me back with a price....Sorry,,, but I did not want to pay $ 65.00 to a company unwilling to answer a simple question concerning cost of a specific item.

Response from Mid-State Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing LLC
I'm sorry this member feels this way but I don't feel like my Customer Service Rep. was wrong here. She really doesn't have pricing on hand. Their job is only to take phone calls. Fortunately our technicians are busy enough that we can't have them taking phone calls. This day in particular our techs all worked from 7:00am to 8:30pm. Although we fall short sometimes our goal is to provide the absolute best service possible, therefore our techs have to keep moving. As far as the diagnostic fee goes, our regular diagnostic fee is $65 but I offer one free diagnostic to any Angie's list member. This member is welcome to take advantage of that next time if she wishes. The coupon for the free diagnostic is available on the Angie's list website.
