This company was at my house because I noticed that my HVAC system never seemed to turn off. I then noticed that it was heating using auxiliary heat and not the heat pump which told me that the heat exchange system of the unit was not working for some reason. The first thing the very young Mid-State technician did when he walked in the door was to hand me an unusual pricing schedule. It is not based on hours of work or parts, it is simply based on some level system that they developed. Because of that, it would make it impossible for you to compare their work with another company. Not knowing this until they were already in my house made me very uncomfortable. The young fellow was very nice, very professional, but he did not exhibit a lot of confidence in what he was doing. He had to make 2 trips because his test equipment (gas sniffer), was not functional on his first visit. The second visit, the next day, with operational equipment found no leaks in either the outside or inside coil. He told me that it appeared that a valve was loose and had leaked all the coolant and that was why my heat pump was not working. He tightened the valve, added 4 pounds of coolant, charged me $317, and left. A few hours later it was getting cold in my house again and I looked and sure enough the auxiliary heat was on again. The problem was not solved. Because I didn't trust the pricing methods that Mid-State was using I called a different HVAC company this morning. They came in less than an hour and discovered that the real problem was a valve inside the outside unit that was still under warranty. They have now ordered the part and it will be installed on Friday after New Years, this being New Years Eve. I can operate with emergency heat until then. So I don't think the young fellow had ill intent, he either just wasn't well trained or didn't have enough experience. I really don't like Mid State's method of pricing because including ordering the in warranty part and two trips from Nashville, the total bill from the new HVAC company will be between 400 - 500 but they guarantee the work for 1 year. If I had used Mid-State again for a return trip, it would have been classified as a level 5 which would have been well over $1000 and I'm not sure if that would have been on top of the $300 that I had already paid or not. Either way it would have been more so I'm much happier with the new company. The older gentleman from the new company instinctively knew where to look after he checked the pressure on both sides of the lines. Experience is very under-rated...

They came out an assessed our a/c unit. They did a great job and they were prompt and on time.

Adam, the service tech was thorough, knowledgeable, and helpful. He explained everything he was doing in plain English; not in the jargon of the trade. He went WAY above and beyond a simple furnace tune-up. I chose to purchase a service contract for two more visits over the coming year because of the full service attention my hearing system got; their reasonable flat fee structure (not by the hour); and the reasonable cost of the contract. I've had hard sell contract offers from other service techs who were not nearly as thorough as Adam, and those techs (who shall remain nameless) came and went with barely 3 spoken sentences ("Hi." "That's gonna be $xxx and you need a new "x;" and "Good-bye.") There was a little "dance" around the arrival time: I got a call at 0810 from their office saying "Adam is on his way, and will be there soon." For this reason, I expected him earlier than the scheduled 0900 appt. In fact, he was on his way and arrived sometime after 0900. Turns out he was on his way from Clarksville, which is almost 60 miles away from my home AND there was traffic. I think the communication breakdown was with lack of information from the office staff, not with Adam. Now, I know that I have to ask the right questions in order to get more reliable info from the office. All in all, though, it was about a furnace tune-up and, for that, Mid-State gets an unequivocal, A+.

Replaced the thermostat with a programmable one, showed me how to use it, and answered all of my questions. Also, fixed an upstairs vent so that the air conditioning would work up there.

Adam Flemming was my service man, and first off, he let me hover over him and ask questions, which was very kind. What I observed was a skillful diagnostic process involving concentration and knowledge. He was not satisfied until he found the real problem. There were several times he could have stopped, but he continued to check the wires, etc., and found the actual problem and fixed it. Adam was willing to review the problem with me so I would understand it. He fixed the heater so it would work on the coldest days thus far in Franklin, TN, then ordered the parts to come back the following week to complete the project. He was willing to explain it all to me, and then, without being pushy suggested a service plan that was right for me and my budget. The next week, I got a call from the friendly ladies in the office to schedule the final visit. When technicians were available before the time we had agreed on that day, they called just to see if earlier would work better for me. Everyone was very friendly and professional.

I highly recommend Mid State AC&H based on their responsiveness, professionalism, and quality service! Everyone from the schedulers to the technician to the owner provided great customer service. Their customer service and work quality were so impressive that, in addition to the repair work, we signed up for their club membership. Full details of our story is below. We awoke to the smell of burning plastic/rubber coming from our upstairs vents on Thanksgiving. With family staying with us and more family on the way for dinner, we needed to diagnosis and fix the problem quickly. I looked at Angie's List and saw the great reviews and awards for Mid State. I called and spoke to Robert Clark (owner) who arranged for Eric to come out that morning. Eric arrived at the arranged time and even called to let us know he was on the way! He quickly diagnosed the problem, explained the repair options, and let us know the cost. He also outlined the benefits of their club membership.

They did a HVAC check-up for Winter and did a very complete job. Very impressed with the level of professionalism and plan to use them in the future when I replace the HVAC system (it's over 12 years old). I highly recommend them.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service. I also have a regular service with them and they have been very helpful the two times they came to our house so, overall, it was good. It was a little bit expensive.

They showed up on time, completed the work quickly and went through the findings with us after. Informative guys. Followed up with a call to make sure all went well. Very professional.

In four separate appointments (in one week) with Mid-State, I had my heat problem diagnosed, the repair for the heat done, got an estimate, and had a new A/C -heat pump installed. I dealt with four different guys throughout the process and each of them was very cordial, professional, and helpful. In each case, the work was handled as quckly as possible. My heat needed a part that had to be ordered. Much to my surprise, the part arrived in one day. Adam was back out to fix it the next day. One unit fixed. I had an estimate done on what size unit I would need for my basement and the cost. Chris was very nice and helpful. We decided to move forward with the new unit. The installation was scheduled for the next day. The two installers arrived around 9am. They were courteous, helpful and skilled. It was an all day job with them finishing up around 5pm. One of the guys showed us how to use the new thermostats and where to put the filters in the new unit. They took away all of the old equipment including the old pad the unit sat on. There is no sign they were here except a new, shiny a/c in the corner! The owner of the company called me the next morning to follow up. Robert wanted to make sure I was happy with the work done. I am very happy with all the work done and will use them again.

They out the vents and ductwork. I was very satisfied with the whole process. I would use them again.

Cleaned and serviced a very old HVAC and recommended a new system vs replacing parts. Then he took extra step to put me in touch with the owner to arrange for a follow up visit. Went above and beyond scope of work which I appreciated very much.

Service was impeccable! Appointment time was confirmed, and the service guys showed up on time. Work was done quickly and cleanly. I wish other business conducted themselves with the same professionalism and pride. Will use this company for future work!!

All went well - it was a while back so I don't remember the date or cost, but I do know we were pleased with their service. They were on time, polite and got the job done.

They were just here today to do the service. I spent about $406 on top of the big deal amount. They were very good, very professional, punctual, knowledgeable and very courteous. As a matter of fact I have scheduled them to come back later in the week.

Steve and Mike arrived a little early and got right to work. They were professional and very thorough. We were quite pleased with the work and would definitely use them again.

They are very prompt, on time, did everything to the best of their ability, they gave me good quotes and it was very honest. They asked for my schedule and they came out when I needed them. They came out 3 times, it was 2 different problems and then the third time was to give me a quote on a new unit.

We got a call to let us know that the technician was on his way, which was very much appreciated. Adam checked both of our 19 year old units thoroughly and said they were good to go. He offered a very reasonably priced service club membership, but did not pressure us. We would definitely use them again.

It went very well. It's fine. Whatever appointment we made, they were there at the appointed time. They did a really good job.

I felt like the service provider was honest with me, he explain to me his employee could not get inside the main duct trunk line to clean it...

They were prompt, professional, responsive, courteous and seemed to have a very good knowledge of what they were doing. I am very satisfied with my experience with them and intend to use them again. I thought that the price was reasonable based on the cost of the unit that was being replaced and the services they were performing and did not do an extensive job of getting other estimates. This is the only reason I did not rate the price any higher than "good".

Pros: - Technician had appropriate experience for heating system inspection and maintenance service. - Technician was courteous and careful not to track dirt into the house. Cons: - Telephone receptionist acted as if she was on quota to hard-sell maintenance plans. - Technician showed up an hour late with no explanation or apology. Appointment had been booked seven days earlier. - First words out of his mouth were to push maintenance agreement and all the "savings" it would offer. - Continued to hard-sell maintenance plans throughout entire service visit. - Could not itemize additional costs; specifically, cost of coolant to "top off" heat pump. Charges were based on a "tier" of service rather than work performed and materials used. - Strongly suggested that entire heat pump core should be replaced (unit less than 5 years old) at a cost of $1500-$1800. Summary is that a $79 maintenance check booked a week earlier showed up late, pressured for expensive services that were not requested and ended up costing $500. I won't be fooled again by these people or their maintenance scams.
