*Update* They did come out and went above and beyond to fix the issue. They did excellent service.
Description of Work: They installed a new hvac unit, vent, and I had maintenance service with them. They installed to big and a lower quality unit for my house so I can never regulate the temp in my house. I complained , they came out to check it and they said it was working fine. But there is at least a 10 degree difference between the old fashioned thermometer and the control box. Now I have to spend money to fix the issue. Plus they were way to expensive. Later I researched the unit they call high efficiency and HOH end and it a low end brand and it costs me almost double to run. Their maintenance is also expensive.

The repairman who did the original replacement of the heat exchanger seemed to do a fine job, and the cost was as expected for replacing a heat exchanger. The work took quite a few hours. The heat worked well for a few weeks before we started smelling gas. When we called again, we were told to turn the heat off and not use it until they could come out. They got someone out within a few hours, and sure enough, the brand new heat exchanger had a problem. They had to order a new part, and we were without heat for about a week, with temps in the teens. Thank goodness for space heaters! They scheduled a repairman to come out to install the new part, but on the day of the appointment, they called to ask if he could come early. I was not able to be at home and so wasn't able to move the appointment up. They must have sent the repairman out on another big job, because they ended up missing the originally scheduled window by quite a few hours. I had to call several times and was fed lines about the repairman being "on his way" but having run into some traffic. He eventually made it out at around 5:30 p.m. and had the repair done a few hours later. The company did not charge us for the follow-up repair, and we have had no further problems. The repairman told us the manufacturer has had some problems with this particular part. I was satisfied with the work but was disappointed in the scheduling issues and would have appreciated more honesty as to where the repairman was. Being lied to about something like that makes me question the overall integrity of a company.

I purchased a $49 central air/heat unit problem diagnosis special through Angie's List. Brendan arrived around noon, which was earlier than stated time frame of 1-3 pm (that's a good thing). We discussed the problem and he proceeded to the unit. He also invited me to watch while he worked, which NO ONE has EVER done before and he explained what he was doing throughout the entire process. By the way, my unit is 10 years old and I'd just been informed by another company that I needed a brand new unit because the system was out of freon (which was false, because I'd just had it filled a couple of days prior, which was verified by Brenden) and my evap coil and condenser was rusted out and leaking. I should add I watched the "other guy" on my security cameras and he never opened the unit to inspect it. But enough about the bad guys. Brendan went through his checklist and after testing some things, spotted where a low voltage wire had rubbed up against a coil over the years, which was causing the heating system to short out. He taped the wire and secured it and other wires to prevent future occurrences. He finished his checklist and the rest of the system was fine. He did make a couple of cleaning/tune-up recommendations, which I am seriously considering letting Mid-State take care of. I could not be more pleased with Brendon's professionalism and attention to detail. I was about to spend thousands on a new unit if not for Brendan's problem detection skills and for that I am forever grateful. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience and would definitely recommend Mid-State Air to anyone for your heating/cooling needs. I understand they also do plumbing and you can best believe if any plumbing issues should arise, they will be my first call. Once again...THANK YOU!!!

He diagnosed the symptom correctly, but quoted me $1300 for repairs with a lead time of 5 days for parts. He also recommended I replace the system because it was so old. When I asked about the condition of the system, he said he didn't inspect it for health. I had a technician come out from another company, who diagnosed the issue on the spot, replaced it with in-stock parts using a parts warranty, and charged me $300 for labor and travel. I will never consult Mid-State again.
Description of Work: Technician came out to inspect a malfunctioning heat pump. I paid ~$70 for the diagnostics call.

Steven came and did a performance evaluation on my heating system. He did a very comprehensive job of it, taking over an hour. He did not find any issues that required repair. I did purchase a twice yearly evaluation service for $119, but this was not a hard sale, i.e. I did not feel pressured to purchase this plan.

I was extremely happy with Mid-State - they took the time to look over my entire system. They noticed my thermostat was running on battery power and took the time to wire it in so I wouldn't need batteries. They did some minor duct repairs at my request. It really felt like they were interested and were there to meet my needs. I've had them come back to inspect my heating unit before winter and had another good experience, just extremely happy with them all around.

TJ was the technician and all I could say is that he showed up on time that's it. When he went into attic and checked area ok but when I showed him another door to go into to check above master bedroom he just looked there by door with his phone light! Said it looked ok from here but would add insulation where needed. Said he would call and schedule for next week never heard from him which is good. Very unenthusiastic about job and I could care less about using them now anyway. Plenty more companies out there to use!

Our new furnace stopped working on Sunday 1/10/15 morning. The original installer does not have weekend hours, so I consulted Angie's List. The technician from Mid State arrived within a couple of hours of the call. He quickly determined that the problem was caused by the condensate pump, which was not working and had overflowed onto the basement floor. The pump has a furnace shutoff switch that is activated when the pump overflows. He emptied the pump, got the furnace up and running, and then pulled the pump apart and found a cap from a water bottle. This was probably interfering with the float. Mid State waived the $65 service charge because I had used Angie's list to find the company. The technician was very pleasant and professional. I couldn't be happier with Mid State.

Showed up on time for a 7:30 AM apt (I appreciate the early appointment hours). Although I told them what the problem was with our toilets (slow to fill), he did not have the parts (a very common, small part) on the truck so off to the plumbing supply store he went. This stretched the appointment duration considerably as it took about 20 min to replace all 3 small rubber pieces but over an hour to get back from the store. He told me the base rate for this service was $199 PER TOILET but that he could do it for just $199. No way I would have paid $600 for this repair and paying $199 was bad enough. Is this a sales tactic - "we are giving you such a good deal" or is this is standard pricing model for this kind of company, but I won't use them again because of it. Low rating on responsiveness because I asked for information on a whole house humidifier on 2 separate occasions and nobody has been in touch with me. On the upside, he gave me some ideas on what to do to fix my problem w/the dishwasher as it was plumbed properly and not in need of his service.

From the first call I made to Mid-State, through the installation everyone I talked with there was extra friendly, helpful, professional, and followed through on commitments. I was surprised being a new customer that they would come out to our rural home on a Sunday during a holiday weekend. I was even more surprised with the technician called the owner to have me speak with him about a new unit. The owner promised that his consultant would be there at 9am the following morning and he was right on time. I wasn't expecting this type of expense when it came up, but working with Mid-State made it a VERY stress-free experience and we are very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Came out on a Sunday night to look at why our heating stopped working. Found out our VERY old furnace had a cracked heating coil and would either need repair (approx. $4k-5k) or we would need to replace the whole unit. They came out the next day to measure the house to determine what size until we would really need, presented me with all my options, and did the installation of a new duel fuel system the following day.

I really liked the young man who performed the work. He was thorough and told me everything he was doing. There were other issues that require repair which he fully explained and helped me prioritize. I scheduled for another professional to visit and give me estimates on another job, sealing my ducts, and he was also very realistic and did not use scare tactics to get me to move quickly. I will be calling this company to make additional repairs.

They did find the source of the problem when others couldn't, so I would give them high marks on that. But I was troubled by the fact that they seemed to find all kinds of other issues to fix, which I declined. At least one of those issues was found to be not at all necessary by another "second opinion". So I'm a little bit on the fence with these guys. If the question re: "would you use again" had a "maybe" response, I would have chosen that.

Response from Mid-State Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing LLC
I'm responding to "they seemed to find all kinds of other issues to fix". When we come out to do a diagnostic, we also do a complete inspection of the entire system. When we do this, it's not uncommon to find a few things that are going to be a problem in the very near future. If and when we find things that are going to be problems in the very near future, we give the homeowner the option to also fix those things while we're there. When we started this, our call-backs went down dramatically and our customer satisfaction went up because customers are not soon faced with more unexpected problems that we could have and should have pointed out while we were there the first time. As far as one of those issues being "not at all necessary". It may not have been necessary for the system to operate that day but I can assure you that if it was brought up, it will be an issue in the near future. Sincerely, Robert Clark

We had a new Trane Heat and Air Conditioner installed in 2007. Never had any problems and had it inspected every year. As the season this year got cooler we tried to turn the heat on to no avail. We noticed a $49 dollar inspection fee on Angie's Lis and decided try Midstate Air and Heating. I have always been a bit suspicious of any deviation from the quoted price on inspections like this. I was told after the inspection that there as mold on the filters. The gentleman quoted me a price of $800.00 to clean the filter and add an ultraviolet light that would prevent any additional mold. About three months before we had a mold removal company treat our large crawl space and add material and a dehumidifier that would prevent any further mold so I knew that the ultraviolet light was unnecessary. So I had him just clean the filter. After fooling with the unit a little more he told me that measuring the resistance in the capacitor indicated that it was going bad and the cost would be $165.00. Now I have worked with electronics for years and I have never seen an ordinary capacitor cost any where near that much. Well I paid it and he replaced it and left. Naturally when we tried to turn on the heat that night it didn't work. I called Midstate back and the very nice person that I had talked to the day before said that they would get someone out immediately. They sent two new technicians who were very polite and professional.. After examining the unit they said that the Inducer Fan Assembly was bad and that it would cost $887.00 to replace it. When I nearly fainted the lead tech said that because of all the problems we had had that he would discount half of it and it would only cost $443.50. He replaced the part and checked it out and the heat worked perfectly. I wrote him a check and shook hands and they left. Now have to state that the person answering the phones was absolutely as nice as one could be and the two technicians that came the second time were also friendly and professional. The first tech that came gave the impression that he would much rather be somewhere else. I guess that's what made the extremely expensive capacitor so painful to pay for. I guess my problem was that I had just watched a show on 20/20 about how workers contracted to inspect items in the home would suddenly discover very expensive problems. The prices Midstate was charging may well be within line with normal pricing by other companies but they just seemed a little high to me. At any rate, the heat is working perfectly so I can say that Midstate definitely got the job done. I am writing this review mostly so that Angie's List personnel can inquire from Midstate if felt that they were fair in what they were charging elderly folks that were living on their Social Security payments. I don't want to embarrass anyone. That's why I didn't want it on the Band of Neighbors.

They have been to my home 4 times over the last year. They have been easy to schedule an appointment with, they show up on time. My AC Unit is old and needs to be replaced in the near future. They have kept the unit running for me and have advised me what I needed to invest in at the minimum to keep it running. They have not tried to persuade me to pay for costly items when they know the unit will need to be replaced.

We had one of the large appliance repair companies look at our 8 year old air conditioner and tell us it needed to be replaced. We came to Angie's List to find a second opinion. Midstate came out the day we called. They were able to repair the unit and inspected our other unit while they were here. The repair man did let us know that the same part was wearing out on our second unit, but we probably wouldn't need to replace it until next year. Honest and professional. Will use them again.
