R&S Flooring

From beginning to end I had nothing but positive experiences with the folks at R&S Flooring. The floor looks great, and the service staff were incredibly professional. The gift card was a nice touch at the end! Highly recommend!

We scheduled a free estimate and the man who came out was very professional and helping. The men who came out to refinish the floors were also great. They definitely knew their stuff! The floors went from drab to fab in a span of about 3 days. From start to finish, R & S Flooring was fantastic. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

They came on the day promised, however, the wood for patching had not been delivered so work was postponed. Also, the wrong crew had been sent to the wrong house, and there was mass confusion over what they were supposed to do. When they brought the wood, it was not the same kind as was on the existing floor due to errors made by estimator, and the correct wood had to be substituted. The majority of the existing wood was red oak and the delivery for patching was white oak. Once the correct wood was delivered and the correct crew was dispatched, the work began. One crew did the demo and patching and another crew did the sanding and finishing, but the sanding and finishing crew had to correct the lousy work done by the demo and patching crew. Again, this resulted in delays. One room was heart pine and they patched it with yellow pine (again, the estimator ordered the wrong wood). A two-year-old could tell it was not right, so I don't know why they went ahead and laid it in the first place - knowing it was wrong. The difference was remarkable and totally unacceptable. When I complained, they ordered the correct wood, and this resulted in a week delay. It's strange, but the end result was very good because I was lucky enough to get a very good refinishing crew. It was not, however, worth the unbelievable confusion, chaos, and unprofessionalism.

The first thing one of the gentleman said upon arrival was "what are we doing?", which indicated they were coming into the job blind. They don't take criticism too well. One of the gentleman messed up my doorway pretty bad and never repaired it. We left to get something to eat and at that same time they had decided to leave because they were called to another job and they have never returned. They missed some places with the stain and they have left bubbles in several parts of the floor too. They did a terrible job and I was not happy with the lack of professionalism.

R&S is fantastic!! Out of the 5 installers I contacted R&S was the fastest to respond and easiest to communicate with. There were no questions too small and they really put my mind at ease. After shopping around they were also the best price in town. I will definitely pass R&S' information along to anyone looking into flooring and plan to use them again very soon for some minor repairs! I am very happy with R&S. This was my second time using them and I will contract them again for future projects. Although there was a minor misunderstanding regarding a part of the project very early on, the owner was quick to remedy the situation professionally and promptly. Easy to communicate with. Competitive pricing. Came back to do touch ups as requested to make sure the job was perfect.

Overall, I am happy with my newly refinished hardwood floors. I received several estimates, each of which were very similar in price. I went with R&S based on their positive Angie's List reviews. My biggest concern was getting the color I wanted, and the end result is perfect. I visited their retail location and picked out several samples- they have hundreds of floor types on display. The finisher was able to match the color I wanted, although you may want to have them order a specific stain for you beforehand if you have your heart set on an exact color. The finisher did a good job with matching the color of my sample on-site, though. I was also very pleased with the vacuum service, as there was very little dust left over after the job was complete. They were able to patch several larger holes in the floor (about 1" diameter). There are, however, several rows of staple holes that were untouched, and I expected these to be filled. To be fair, I didn't clarify this with them, but it was something I assumed would be completed based on the holes that were filled in other areas. Most of the holes and imperfections with the floors were taken care of, so I am satisfied (the floors are over 50 years old after all!) I did have one issue with the floors after the refinish job was completed. There were two large drips of polyurethane left at one end of the hall in addition to a large shoe print embedded in the polyurethane at the opposite end of the hallway. I contacted R&S about the problem, and they sent the installers out to repair the problem quickly. After they left, however, I noticed that a portion of the footprint remained. The shoe print was greatly diminished after the first repair and it required you to stand at an angle to see it, but it was still visible to someone that knew it was there. Given the lighting at the time of day the first repair was completed, I understand how they missed it the first time. The print was not visible during the day, but really stood out to me at night when the overhead light was on. The installers were visibly annoyed that they had to make a second trip out to repair the spot (I was also annoyed that a footprint was embedded in my floor to start with!), but I finally got the lighting right in the room so that they could see that the footprint was still there. After additional sanding and another application of poly, the footprint is gone. The repaired section is barely noticeable (the sheen of the poly seems slightly different), and I'm pretty sure that I am the only person that will be able to pick it out, so I'll let it be at this point. I believe the repair was completed as well as any other flooring company would have done, but it is a bummer that it happened in the first place. Another minor point is that communication seems to be off a bit for this company, but this isn't an issue that would prevent me from hiring them again. They didn't even question me when I called them out to repair the floor a second time, so I see that as a huge positive.

They came out and gave estimates. They were very courteous and thorough. They came back with a written price bid for us. They helped us with the selection of the wood. They spent probably an hour with me on the shop to come up with the final selection. We set up an installation date and they were on time. Their crew came up and did the entire job in one day. Compared to my neighbor who had another flooring company, it took them three days to complete the same job. They were done everything was clean, spick and span. The crew was great all day. I will recommend them for any kind of wood flooring job.

They were absolutely fantastic. All their people were extremely punctual and professional and did a beautiful job. I can't believe how beautiful my floors look. Their price was by far the lowest and included all materials. I was shocked that they even painted my existing trim. I would recommend them and would definitely use them again.

R & S was wonderful. Our floors are exactly what we wanted. They worked very fast. Tim was always available answer questions and discuss concerns. The only thing I would have changed was to paint myself or hire someone else. The painter who painted the shoe molding was a little sloppy. Nice guy, just didn't do a great job painting. I would highly recommend R and S to anyone!

The men who came to do the floors, showed up early, sanded everything in a very quick amount of time (we opted to have the low dust option, as it kept almost all the dust from sanding off everything around the floor). We did put up plastic the night before to protect everything from dust. The floors looked great, but there were a few spots that bubbled up a little, so they came back and re-did that area. That small area is still not perfect, but we can live with it, and we're putting rugs over that part of the floor anyway, so it's really not a problem. However, I know they would have come back out to re-do the area again, if we asked them to, they were very good about coming back out, and said it was no problem. They called several times during the process to make sure everything was going well, and again after the second area had be re-done. I've never had wood floors refinished before, but it's quite a process, and someting I'm glad I didn't have to do. If we need anything done with our floors again, we will call them. We had a very good experience. Oh, and we even got a $100.00 discount because we are Angie List members. Awesome!

They were to remove warped boards in the kitchen and then refinish. They sanded the floor without removing the warped boards and it looked fine when they left but in the next few months the warping came back. I asked them to use their MOST durable finish on my kitchen as it is a VERY high traffic area in my home. After about six months the floors were showing wear as adjoining rooms that were finished by another company were still in good shape that also are in high traffic areas. Some smaller details such as the base board and trim were a bit sloppy and some of their crews did not speak English well enough to communicate and correct the errors. Would not use this company again.

It had to be handled very carefully, and they did a fantastic job. It looks brand new.

R & S came out to quote the floor refininishing however we ended up going with another company. The other company did the floor, however I could not get them to call me back so we could coordinate the hand rails. I call R & S, and they took the time to come out and quote doing the hand rail and floor below the hand rail (toe board??). Clint was the person that did the work, and we were very happy with the work he did. The rails look great, he cleaned up the areas he was working in, and even removed his shoes when he came in to do the work. I would use this vendor again.

I could not be more pleased with our experience with R&S Flooring. Jim and his crew were prompt, professional and did an excellent job. We are thrilled with our new floors. I priced out floors with several different companies. R&S gave the best price and were available to start the job right away. Several other places I called could only handle one aspect of the project, and referred me to another company for another piece of the job. R&S handled purchasing of the wood, demolition, installation, and finishing. The people working on the project were very professional, and any small issues that occurred (e.g. squeak in one of the boards) was fixed right away. We will definitely call R&S if we have flooring needs in the future.

We were planning to replace the carpet for a while and exploring various stores. Before we became a member of Angie's List, we inquired at Home Depot, Loews and a few other installers. We did not like what we were getting, in terms of cost, service and choice. Subsequently, after becoming a member, we searched Angie's List and based on reviews, called up two installers. One did not get back to us. R&S was extremely professional. They immediately gave me a date for free estimates. The gentleman came on time, measured everything and gave us several options using different types of wood. We did not feel that he was trying to push the most expensive option. Then we went to the store to check the flooring materials. Tim and his associates were very courteous, patient and showed us a variety of materials. He further gave us additional option that we did not think up and gave us samples to take back home to see how they fit in our home. Finally we decided on the material and negotiated a price. The price that he quoted was the cheapest that we got (actually several thousands of dollars less than a few other quotes). He was flexible about dates - since both my wife and I work outside, he accommodated our schedules without any problem. The wood and other materials were delivered in time by people who all were courteous and professional. The installation took three days. Each day in the morning, two gentlemen who installed the flooring, would call before they came and show up in time. They were very competent and truly professional. They would talk very less among themselves, would not eat anything inside the house, clean up every dirt and install the floor meticulously. We became friends with Musa and Orlando! There were some problems with the installation of wood on the staircase. Musa solved the problem quite ingeniously and without any extra cost to us. After the installation Tim sent another person to caulk the staircase, who was also very competent. Afterwards, we found that there was a small quarter round molding that was coming off. We called R&S and he took care of it immediately. It has now been 5 months since the installation and everything is just fine. We are very happy with R&S Flooring and will definitely give our business to them in the future.

Everything went like clock work. Started the job on time and the work crew finished the job in one day. Amazing. The work crew worked as a team with each player doing their own thing. They were professional, polite and were eager to get the job done right. There were no hicups. It was a pleasure dealing with Tim, Ray and Jim from R & S. Also, the subcontractors worked superbly. i.e. Calvin Lynch re Plumbing and Don Wice re Painting. I will not hesitate to recommend H & S Flooring for my future flooring needs.

They called to let us know when they would be there and the guys that came out were friendly and curtious. Even though they use a dustless system (it still creats a little dust) They put plastic up to keep what little dust that isn't captured to a minimum. They checked to see if my hardwood floors could be sanded enough to restain and polyurathane. They tested an area in a small closet and it turned out to be fine. (My floors were of the engineered variety and there was a question if they could be sanded down enough without hurting the top layer of the engineered wood.) Then they proceeded to sand the rest of the floors. That took several hours. Then they lightly buffed the floors to make them smooth. Then they put the stain and sealer down and finished for the day. The next morning they came and put the polyurathane coat on and that only took less than an hour. The next day they came back and lightly sanded and buffed the floor before putting down the next coat of polyurathane. The trim crew came out the next morning and put the new shue molding on and took away any debrie that was left from the job. All in all they were great and did a fantastic job for me. I would recommend them to anyone that needs there floors refinished. Their price was good and their work ethic and professionalism was excellent. Their sales guy that came out to give me the estimate was also punctual and curtious and his estimate was actually a little higher than what the finished job came to. They didn't need to refinish (or remove) the shue molding around the kitchen cabinets so I saved the cost of replacing and finishing that. Whether you have 500 sq. ft. or 5000 sq. ft. of hardwood to refinish, I would difinately use R & S Flooring to do the job and do it right. Rick Plesea Murfreesboro, TN

Everything went as planned. The Estimator came the next day after I called. I even got the estimate later that evening. Their pricing was great, and was able to get the work scheduled 2 days after my initial call. They seemed to be very organized. The crew showed up on time and were very professional. They did a great job. My floors look Fantastic. They were able to install my new floors to look exactly like the hallway seamlessly. I will highly Recommend R&S Flooring!

They were excellent. They get it done right no matter what. They make sure the customer is happy with the product and the price is very good.

Where the floors were done everything looked fine, but the stairwell job was done very poorly. The trimwork was terrible...just pieces of lattice tacked almost haphazardly. My 11 year old niece could have done better work. Also they cut corners on a few of the steps at the bottom, creating mismatching corners, in order to save themselves materials. The manager came out to discuss the work, and we pointed out the problems with the stairs. He agreed the trimwork was bad but tried to get us to accept the mismatched corners...saying it would have been more expensive to do what we were wanting (in other words, getting it right). Of course he never mentioned in the estimate that we'd be getting a substandard job on the stairs for the price we paid. After insisting that they come back and do it right, he did finally agree to do so, and they finished the job with a satisfactory result. As a result, I'm rating them a C for not doing it right the first time, and having to twist their arm to get it right.

We used R & S after the first contractor we were going to use screwed up (we were using the first contractor based on lower cost and reputation). Overall we were very pleased with the service. Tim was very prompt in providing an estimate several week prior. When the 1st contractor bailed on us, J & S was there the next day to take care of the work. Sergio and his son did an excellent job and he helped us pick a great stain color. We originally were going to go with a different tone, but Sergio suggested a redder stain and we are very pleased! The only complaint we have was that they were to repair a spot in one room before the finishing work was done, but apparently this wasn't communicated ahead of time. After the finish work was completed, we noticed and we had to call Tim and have another tech come out to make the repair. Unfortunately as stated above the repair wasn't made as it should have been before finishing and they ended up just putting filler in the spot. Because of this we didn't feel we could give an overall rating of A. The rest of the flooring looks great though and the crew was very fast and neat.

The estimator responded within 24 hours with an accurate quote. We did not fell pressured to make a decision right away. We scheduled the work in late January and were out of the house for 3 days (2 nights) for the main sanding/refinishing work. Each crew was very professional. There were five different groups. They were: Tear out, replace, refinish, painting, cleaning. We needed them to move three rooms of furniture. They were very respectful of your possessions. The project was on time, on budget and exceeded our expectations. The estimator gave us the option of staying in the house during the refinishing but the crew suggested that we might want to leave due to the strong chemical smell. They were right. We were much happier at a hotel near our home for two nights. The match between the new wood and old wood was perfect. The only unexpected point was when the damaged wood was removed. There was still moisture in the plywood under the hardwood. I'm not sure it would have dried out in a reasonable time. We gave it 4 months and the warping of the hardwood floor ever left. I think getting a professional to look at the floor as early as possible is the right thing to do.

I was very pleased with the services and responsiveness of Tim and his team. We had an estimate the Friday before Christmas and work began the Friday after Christmas. All of the workers were very professional and easy to work with. Each time I called the office, I spoke with Tim who was very helpful and informative. After the work was completed, there was quite a variation from the old flooring to the new flooring which gave me some pause as to if the correct species of wood was used. Tim came out and inspected the floors to ensure that I was satisfied and was very gracious to offer several solutions. Even with a slight hiccup we were very pleased with their work.
