From the very start working with Loretta was amazing! She was the sweetest young lady and was highly intellegant on the details of hard wood flooring. I went in with very little knowledge and a bit hesitant on just how much I was about to spend but Loretta found me the BEST wood at the BEST rate! You couldn't beat it (ANYWHERE!) I know I looked (EVERYWHERE). Then the quickness of the service and ease of knowing I could just sit back and watch the magic happen as Eddie and his team worked miracles! The flooring prior was awful and in shambles but now it is perfection and I am so proud to showcase it. Thank you R&S flooring. Thank you Eddie and his team and most important Thank you Loretta!

5 day job turned into a 24 day job. They left food bags, stain smudges on the walls and door frames (was told that they do not offer a service to touch up), and on the last day someone left food smashed into the floor that had just been redone. Very disappointed.I would never suggest anyone use this company. We had poor communication between the crew and the project manager and the offices. Everyone telling me different completion times and statuses of the job. Very bad experience.

I've used R&S for 3 different refinishing and installation jobs in the past. I will probably not contract with them again. Here's why: Communication: From the beginning, the job suffered from miscommunication. First, weeks after scheduling the installation, the office contacted me in a sudden hurry to try to push it back more than 3 weeks. After some negotiation it was only pushed back by slightly more than a week. This was a problem because the renovation of the room in question depended on the timing of the floor installation, and I had already scheduled the other subcontractors. Therefore the whole project was delayed more than 2 weeks and I had to rebook my subs. On the day of the install, the installers arrived to a jobsite with no materials. Apparently the office had failed to arrange delivery of the wood, so the installers had to make a run to pick up the wood. This was not ideal because solid oak flooring is supposed to acclimate in the installation environment for at least a few days to prevent warping and gaps. Fortunately, they finished the install in 1 day and did a nice job of it, except for cutting out too much wood around the door casings, where you can now see gaps between the trim and the edge of the flooring. I was charged a $75 "delivery fee" for the materials, which in fact were never delivered by a third party. The office claimed the installers were paid this fee for getting the wood. R&S did not charge such a fee when they installed floors in my home in the past. Execution of finishing: After the staining and first and second coats of poly, small yarns from the mops were left embedded in the finish. The poly then blistered up and chipped off, requiring another coat, which ultimately failed to fix the problem. Furthermore, some sections were not sanded properly and were left with "popped" woodgrain, which required additional sanding and recoating (and the attendant fumes and smell). Finally, the shoe mould installed to finish the job appears to be red oak and does not exactly match the white oak flooring. The casual observer might not notice but it's not an ideal outcome.

The evaluation and estimate from Andrew was great. He was punctual, polite, informative. Great representative of the company. Scheduling was easy and went smoothly. My only issue is with the office. I had no communication with them outside the email and the scheduling phone call they sent when I confirmed (3-4 weeks prior). I had been told the crew would be there at 8 am. At 9:15 I finally called and got told the crew would be there between 10-10:30. They finally called at 10:15 or so to tell me that the crew would be there around 12:30-1. The crew leader then finally called and informed me he was about 45 minutes away at 12:30. The crew leader and crew have been great. So far the work looks great (one more coat to go) and he has called to check in with me and I can call and ask as many questions as needed. So my only issue is with the office and not be proactive in customer service and letting clients know updated schedules and communication.

I felt very at ease with everyone who entered our home. Being that I was the one at home with the men while my husband was at work, this was of great importance to me. They made me feel very comfortable and were 100% professional. Daniel & Tim came out and stripped our red oak floors, sanded with very little mess at all, stained our floors a rich Provincial, and sealed them with a satin finish. Chris also helped on the stair treads. They are absolutely stunning! Clayton came on Monday to finish up the oak trim on the hearth so all is complete. Our floors are gorgeous... We are 100% satisfied with your company and would highly recommend you to anyone looking to have their flooring updated. And make sure you use Bill at the Moores Lane location: he is the best ever!!! :) With warmest regards, Jeanie & Doug LaRusso Twin Oaks Farm Murfreesboro TN 37130

The people were exceptionally nice, the quality of the work was incredibly good, and my floors/stairs look amazing. My only complaint was that the work was not completed as we'd agreed. It was explained to me, when the person came out to give me an estimate, that the stairs would need to be finished onsite and I wouldn't be able to walk on them for 12 hours. Since the layout of my home wouldn't allow for that while I was there, I opted to schedule the work to be done while I was out of town on business. I was assured that the work could be completed within that 5 day period. Unfortunately, it was not. In fact, on 2 of the 5 days, no one was even in my home working on the project, and when I got home, the stairs were still not completed. I arranged for the work to be done on another day when I was out of town but when I got home, there was still work to be done. I had to crate my dog on 2 separate days after that in order for additional work to be done. All in all, I was happy with the end result and would probably use them again if I were doing wood floors, but I was disappointed in the lack of adherence to the schedule and the inconvenience that I had.

R & S proved to be a very professional company. We needed 600+ sf of new hardwood to match the existing floor. These guys were spot on. The quote was in line with the other 4 quotes I received, except, this quote included moving the furniture and painting the trim. We liked that they were going to take care of everything, and I was going to write a check and not worry about anything, perfect. The install was quick and efficient. Really so good, there is not much to comment on. Matching the existing stain proved to be quite a challenge. The previous floors were said to be a custom color but with a few hours and 4 tests, R & S nailed it. The job was swift, clean, and like the other two gentlemen who installed the wood, these guys were very professional. We did run into a hitch with the finish (top coat) matching the existing floors, but this was remedied with an additional coat. You really can not tell the difference between the existing and new floor. Next came installing and painting the trim. Once again, these two fellows were hardly noticed because they were very skilled at their trade. We had a nice conversation with the painter, relatively new to R & S, but definitely a professional painter. Actually, we thought he may be too much of a perfectionist, but that is good for us. After allowing the floor to cure for a few days (our request) R & S sent out the final crew to replace the furniture, and these guys also did a great job. Very easy to work with and careful not to damage anything. Our main point of contact for the quote was Ray, and Jim oversaw the job. Ray gave us an option that we didn't know was available, financing the project for 6 months, interest free, with a third party vendor (qualification necessary) so that left a bit of breathing room, which is nice. Jim was just a super star. My wife had a lot of questions and Jim was kind enough to address each one along the way and when I say prompt, I mean prompt. We have had the unfortunate experience of purchasing a property that calls for an inordinate amount of work. Dealing with several contractors has proven to be quite a challenge, but we can honestly (and gratefully) say, we recommend R & S without reservation.

WOW! The crew did an excellent job, and my new floors look BEAUTIFUL! Friends had used R&S for their flooring job, and we were really impressed with the results. We had gotten a number of estimates, and R&S offered the best price. The sales process was not at all pressured, the job was completed when promised, and only took a day and a half. The crew worked hard, and cleaned up nicely after themselves. They moved all the heavy furniture and put it back in place when the job was finished. The few spots that needed touch-ups after the job was finished were taken care of right away. I could not be any happier!

The work went weil and was on time as scheduled and promised. We were happy with the finished product and with all of the people from R & S Flooring that we dealt with . There were no problems with the exception of a gas cut off valve that had fit correctly over the carpet but did not go down flat on the flooring. This was caused by the person who installed our gas line to our gas logs and that will have to be corrected by them. R & S made it look ok but we will have our plumber correct it completely the next time he does work for us.The crews did a good job of cleaning up inside the house and seemed to take care of everything in a good manner. Were are pleased with R & S and the job they did for us and would recommend them to anyone want to have their hardwood refinished. The only negative thing we found in the entire operation was that some of the crew left some of their paper drinking cups and other trash outside our back door area instead of putting it in the garbage and we had to pick it up. We found this when we came home after the work was completed except for some trim work which was completed today.

My wife and I wanted a very specific type of hardwood installed (approx 1500 sq/ft) - Brazilian Walnut which is a extremely dense and durable wood that not all installers are familiar with. We had to order the wood from an online dealer and had it shipped to our home. After letting it acclimate for a few weeks, we had R&S come in and do the installation. Installing the wood required special equipment and cleats not typically used to install other types of hardwood. R&S paid special attention to the manufacturer's instruction and made sure we were happy with how they were going to proceed. The installation itself took 3 days to finish and another day to finish the toe boards. I have to say they did an excellent job and the floor is beautiful. The few problem areas that we found after the installation were quickly addressed and it was clear they wanted to make sure we were happy. I highly recommend R&S!

We were initially reluctant to try R&S since we figured they were at the higher end of the price spectrum with respect to flooring, especially with an office in Brentwood. After shopping around we found they were very competitive while having a good selection of flooring not seen elsewhere. We fell in love with a particular sample and scheduled a time to survey the job. We agreed upon a price and within a week R&S was delivering the flooring. The installation that quickly followed went very well, and believe it or not, the finished product looked even better than the sample we had based our purchase on. I had initially planned on doing the finish trim and paint work myself, but decided to leave that up to R&S so I could focus my time on other remodeling tasks. I'm sure glad I did, because the painter did a fantastic job and even gave me some valuable painting tips I'll use in the future. We found a few nail holes that weren't filled, and within minutes another R&S representative was at our doorstep to quickly resolve. I've installed flooring in the past, and its not the most enjoyable home improvement job I've done. I'm really glad I chose to let someone else do this one, and couldn't be any more pleased with the quality of the products and service I received from R&S. The folks at R&S are really nice people, and I really appreciate how they treated my wife and I. You don't have to spend a fortune with them to feel like the truly appreciate having you as a customer.

R&S sent a representative to provide us an estimate the day after we contacted them. The young man was prompt, courteous, and thorough--shared with us the measurements he had taken and explained what next steps would be. He promised the detailed estimate within 24 hours, but because we were his first call of the day, we actually received the estimate in only 8 hours. When we decided to have R&S do the work, they were able to schedule us within the next few days. A crew came on a Friday to remove three layers in the kitchen (cork, subfloor, and original parquet) and 12 x 12 ceramic tiles in the entry way and bathroom--because of the way the tiles had been installed originally, each tile had to be broken by hand. (The crew also removed bathroom fixtures--lavatory and commode.) Because of these tiles, there was a great amount of dust generated. The workmen stacked all the old materials on the side of our driveway and another crew arrived early the next morning to remove it--they did an excellent job. The crew returned on Saturday to complete installing the unfinished hardwood. A different person had to come on Monday to remove the carpeting and stairs leading to the garage; he also then installed new risers and treads. The clean-up crew returned that evening to take away refuse. We had to wait for a week for the new flooring to adjust to the environment. A different crew arrived the next Friday. They moved all the heavy furniture--they were careful and professional, covering everything after they stored it in the garage. After the sanding was complete (dustless sanding produced much less dust than the removal of the tiles had), the crew chief showed us three stains--we chose one and also selected the finish (satin, semigloss, high gloss). We were actually out of the house only two nights. They returned the next week to replace the furniture and re-install the plumbing fixtures in the bathroom. After yet another week, R&S sent a final man out to repair the few nicks the workers had made during the course of the process. All in all, R&S did a wonderful job on this project. At times there seemed to be some minor miscommunications internally, but none of them had any impact on the work being done at our home. A member of the R&S team actually came to the house to collect the initial (50% of the total) and final payments. Everyone we had any contact with was polite, courteous, and professional. They answered questions, explained the processes, and completed the work quickly and professionally. There were no surprises and no extra charges or cost-overruns. We are extremely pleased with the results--especially since their charge was more than $2000 less than the other estimates we had received. We highly recommend this company.

The estimating experience was very positive (Ray). He was very knowledgeable and ;provided very solid professional input (since I was a novice in having hardwood floors). He guided us through the decision of refinishing existing or purchasing new hardwoods. Ultimately after weighing everything, we decided to refinish. After we decided to proceed and paid our deposit, we scheduled our install. We had a very specific week that we needed the work completed, and they were able to accommodate this on the schedule. The experience overall was a little odd in that there wasn't one person who coordinated all of the various phases of our job (hardwood install, refinish/stain of floor, installation of "risers" for the stairs and then painting the shoe molding and risers).; I had expected a project manager to be our one point of contact but that didn't happen. Instead, we had to manage ourselves through the process. The main store contact answered my questions. I later found out from the owner Tim) that the assigned PM was out sick during our week of installation so we kind of fell through the cracks. He assured us that this was not a typical experience and provided us a credit for the inconvenience. I believe that this was not typical, however, it made our experience somewhat frustrating. The new hardwood install was done in one day. Part of the job was to seamlessly merge the new wood in with the existing floor. He did an excellent job in making it look like it was part of the original floor. The next morning, I was told (by the office) to meet the finisher at 8:30 in the morning. One guy had arrived at 7:45 ready to go. I introduced myself and assumed he was the "guy in charge"... I found out that he was just the one sanding the floors. He said that any questions that I had would have to talk with someone else. However, I gave him a key so that the "team" could come and go as needed. I returned the next morning to check on them and no one was at the house. I waited until 9 and no one showed up. When I returned at the end of the day to see what had been done, it was obvious they were making progress, but not yet finished sanding. I was getting nervous about my 1 week timeline. The office gave me the number of the "team lead" so I called him to ask about the plan for the week and when I would be selecting the stain. We agreed on a time the next morning. A new guy was there to do this with me (not the team lead). He was easy to work with and helped me select a great color. I asked him when they would start staining and he said that they still had a lot of prep and it probably wouldn't be until the next day. When the finally start staining, It is gorgeous and exactly what we had in mind for a color. They spend Friday and Saturday doing Polyurethane (we used Water based, which dries faster). On Friday, I ask the team lead who is doing the "risers" on the stairs and he says that he wasn't told to do this, but would check with the office. I also asked about painting of the shoe molding. He says that they just install but don't paint. I have no idea "when" this will be done, as we are losing time. On Saturday, they are starting to put on the shoe molding, but still no risers. ....We agree that someone will come back on Monday to finish the shoe molding and risers. No one shows up until 5:30pm, when the "team lead" shows up to finish this out himself (after several phone calls). They had moved on to another job (understandably). They finally finish on Tuesday (after several other misunderstandings later). I also call the office to see what is going on with the painting of the risers and shoe molding. They tell me that a painter has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, which was a complete surprise and not convenient. We decided to use our own painter for this, so they gave us a pricing credit. The floors look awesome and we love them, but the process was crazy and took too long (we were told it would be one week and it took almost 2 weeks). We never felt like we knew what was going on and when they would be finished with anything. I assume that this was a unique experience due to the lack of a Project Manager. The owner sufficiently apologized and credited our bill for the misunderstanding. He was sincere... I have mixed feelings on the experience.

Ray from R&S showed up promptly and demonstrated a deep knowledge of flooring systems and applications. He provided a very straight up quote based on square footage. I appreciate that after getting other quotes that had funny math based on next-in-line upgrades, minimum fees, and product tiers. My project included matching the flooring in my 1960's home of 1.5" oak hardwood. This is an uncommon size in modern flooring and I was able to procure this from a mill locally. I started the install only to find out that this is more time consuming that other T&G flooring. I had already called R&S about doing the finishing work so I asked if they were able to help finish the install since I ran out of time. They had crews available and were actually available the next business day. The installation crew was on site 15 minutes early and breezed through the rest of the floor in just a few hours. They were very careful and paid attention to every detail, cut, and corner of the install. Every face nail was countersunk, transitions fitted in as close as possible, and no more than 1/4" gap on any wall adjoinment. High quality work. The actual finishing was the best part of this job. My wife was very pregnant at the time so R&S offered to use different types of urethane that would have lower VOC / odor risks. They were able to explain the differences in the new vs old water based acrylics and modern oil-based polyurethanes. I felt very informed and in control of my choices. The crew came out and were very careful to set up dust barriers and gently move the heavy sanding equipment through my home. Even though the sanding system is "dustless" there is still a bit that is left behind. They cleaned up behind every step, even the small things like wiping off the extension cords before moving them. Their finishing guy was able to get our floors to match the existing floors exactly, even with the new flooring being red oak instead of white oak. Very slight difference but he was able make the stain work without getting a drop anywhere it wasn't supposed to be (walls, transitions, tile, all were clean). Two coats of polyurethane later and I had a beautiful new floor. A few weeks later we had a party and several guests who weren't aware of the weeks of renovation were surprised to learn that the room wasn't original to the home. I credit a good part of that to how good the flooring match was done by R&S.

R & S Flooring was a delight to work with. They were done with the project within the specified time frame with minimal disturbance and fantastic results. From project manager, James Robbins, to floor finisher, Chris Verchato, every person involved was a consummate professional and very personable. No questions were left unanswered and no detail was left unattended. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend the team at R & S.

In 1975 a previous owner of our home did a remodeling job that included adding a master bedroom off the back side of the house. Because the property slopes down from the front to the rear of the property, this bedroom is about 10 feet above ground. Underneath the bedroom is our carport. Wall-to-wall carpeting was laid throughout the main living area, including the master bedroom. Over the last several years I had taken up the carpeting in the house, everywhere except this master bedroom. Well, after 39 years, the carpet was getting pretty tired. Also, it is a good dust collector. So, we decided to replace it with a new floor. A bit of evaluation showed that installing new flooring would first require ripping out the carpet and padding, then removing the particleboard underneath. This was more work than I wanted to do on my own, so I went to Angie's List and searched for flooring companies with high ratings. Since we wanted to look at samples and go over options, we limited our choices to companies that also had a brick-and-mortar store where we could handle samples and talk about options. We looked at various floor materials, such as laminate, hardwood (e.g., oak), engineered wood, and processed wood such as stranded bamboo, and eucalyptus. We compared nail-down, glue-down, and floating. We did not want glue-down because of the chemical vapors. We settled on a floating floor, and selected stranded bamboo that has been processed to increase its density and hardness. A floating floor can also be laid over a cushioning material, such as cork, which adds insulation (both thermal and acoustic) and provides a softer feel when walked on. Two companies provided quotes for the work. Initially the two quotes were within a few hundred dollars of each other. Quote #1 was for a floating bamboo floor over a fiber underlayment. Quote #2, from R & S Flooring, was for a nail-down bamboo floor with only a moisture barrier underlayment. Since I wanted a floating floor, I leaned toward quote #1 even though it was the higher cost. However, when I reviewed the quotes, I discovered that quote #1 had miscalculated the square footage by about 20% less than actual. When I brought this to the attention of the provider, he agreed that it was wrong, and his quote went up by 20%. That put the dollar value at over $1000 more than quote #2. So, I contacted R & S Flooring and asked them if they would consider the proposition that I would buy all the material (flooring + underlayment) and they would install the flooring. R & S Flooring agreed, and they provided a new quote for the labor. They also gave me an installation date that was way sooner than I expected. Like, I ordered the flooring on the Monday after Black Friday (December 1) and they installed it on December 9. I ordered the bamboo from Cali Bamboo. They have a "standard" click-and-lock and a "wide plank" click-and-lock. The wide plank type is 5/8 inch thick, about 5 inches wide, and 72 inches long per plank. I got the wide plank. It has a 50 year warranty, by the way. The underlayment is Quiet ComfortPLUS, which is 1/8 inch cork with a bonded plastic moisture barrier. The bedroom is 376 square feet, and I bought 400 square feet of the bamboo flooring, plus 4 rolls of the cork underlayment (about 425 sq. ft.) for a total cost of $2291 in materials. I will note here that my total cost of materials plus labor ended up to be only $3900! (Remember quote #1? It was over $5000!) On December 9, the R & S Installer team showed up at 8:15am. Three men plus power saws and other tools. They set to work and in two hours, the carpet and particleboard were out of the bedroom. That amazed me. Then they began laying the new floor. The head guy and I went over the direction that I wanted the planks to go, and he showed me how the cork underlayment plastic layer had a way to overlap the plastic from one strip of underlayment to the next. The installer from R & S told me that I probably should have purchased more and that he might run out due to cutting and fitting. However, these installers were professionals, for sure, because they had enough to do the floor and give me about 5 planks for any repairs that might be needed down the road. After the floor was laid, they added quarter-round molding throughout the bedroom. They also put down two tee-molding pieces for two doorways, which I had neglected to purchase. These were provided at no extra cost, too. The entire floor installation was done by 3:15pm, about 7 hours after they started. Later that day, another crew came and picked up all the carpet and particleboard waste material. During the installation, someone from the R & S Flooring office called me to make sure that everything was going OK. A word about the installer crew. They were very professional. Nobody smoked, which was nice because my wife is allergic to tobacco smoke. Nobody yelled. They asked if it was all right to listen to music (I said it was OK), and the music was not loud when they did play it. They cleaned up after themselves. After the floor was installed, I was able to walk on it immediately, and it totally exceeds my expectations. I would not hesitate to hire R & S Flooring again if I ever need more work done.
Description of Work: Removed carpet, carpet padding, and particleboard from bedroom, then installed approx. 376 sq. ft. cork underlayment and stranded fiber premium bamboo flooring. Note that the cost of service is for installation only. I purchased the flooring and underlayment (400 sq. ft.) for $2291. Total job cost me about $3900, or about $10/sq. ft.

Response from R&S Flooring
I want to think you so much for the kind words and pictures that you shared. It is our experience that most of our business comes from these sites and word of mouth from our customers, so it is a tremendous help. We appreciate your business and enjoyed working with you. We do look forward to working with you in the future and on a personal note the quote you provided at the end of your review from the 1927 movie is also one of my favorites! I knew it immediately when I read it. In my former life I was a high school History teacher and I have actually shared this clip with my class. I think that is too funny. Again, thanks. R & S

This was my second experience with R&S. They responded very quickly and had an estimator out the same day I called (just like they did last year). The estimator was the same as last time and was a joy to have in my home. I got our quote later that evening. We had 2 different crews out to do the job and both were very professional. The install crew was very fast. I didnt expect that they could lay all the flooring the same day but they did. The finishers came out (1 week later as scheduled) and sanded/finished the floors. Both crews were professional, and polite. The floors matched perfectly (I was warned that the floors may not match exactly to the existing). I Highly recommend R&S Flooring. I wish all the crews/companies that came out to build our addition were as nice and high quality as R&S.

The install team did well at sanding the floors and working to try and hide some pet stains and water damage. They worked with us to find the right color stain. We ended up choosing a custom mix to get just the right color. The floors look great. However, they did not do a very good job with communication and the lack on one contact made it difficult to find out what was going on and what the schedule/plan was. Also, from the beginning (at the time of the quote) we asked and were promised that a can of stain and finish would be provided at the end of the job (as we are planning other renovations in the near future and want to match the floor), but it took more than a month and multiple follow up calls to have that provided. Finally, the finish that they put on the floor is not very hard (ie it is VERY easy to scratch). When we called and asked if there was anything they could do, they said that they do not offer anything with a harder finish, but could come put another coat of the existing finish on the floor for a minimum charge of $1000 (half of what we paid in the first place). Overall, the floors turned out beautiful, the company was OK to deal with, but we are not sure how long the floors will hold up.
