Description of Work: Feeling extremely pleased with my new floors that were done by R&S Flooring! My sister and I recently bought a house that needed to be renovated completely with all new floors. The house was already laid with real hardwood in the foyer area, laminate throughout the living room, cheap vinyl in all 3 bathrooms and kitchen, and carpet in all 3 bedrooms and bonus room as well. The carpet was in the worse shape next to the vinyl, so we knew made the decision that it had to go! We had been looking at laminate to replace what was there and thinking of laying tile down in kitchen and bathrooms. One Saturday my sister and I were in Franklin shopping for furniture for our new home and stumbled across R&S Wood flooring…the name of course caught our attention since we were looking for replacement flooring. We said to each other” hey lets go in here and take a look at their floor selections” This is when we met Bill, who is probably one of the best salesman I have met in a very long time! He was so kind and patient with us keeping in mind it was about 10 mins till closing time on this particular day. He began educating us on the new Luxury Vinyl Plank and Luxury Vinyl Tile and advised us that laminate floors are becoming a thing of the past and we should really take a look at the LVP/LVT. We loved that this stuff is waterproof, pet proof, and kid proof! Upon me calling that following Monday Bill scheduled for Clayton to come out and take measurements of the house. Clayton was great and really knows R&S products! He walked me thru the entire process and also gave me suggestions on brands of flooring that were best to go with. Once all measurements were in my sister and I went back into the store to pick out our flooring. While picking out our flooring Bill offered us their 15 month interest free payment plan as well as a coupon they were offering at the time to help keep us within our budget! Once all floors were picked out we were scheduled for install. On the day of install the guys were right on time that morning and installed both the Luxury Vinyl Plank and Luxury Vinyl Tile in one day. The next day the carpet was installed in all bedrooms and stairwell. Their carpet guy is awesome as well! His name is Jeff and he is a one man show. It took him literally all day to install all the rooms and the stairs but his work ethic was very impressive. There was an issue with the sub flooring in the foyer area where we pulled up the real hardwood that was actually glued down instead of nailed. The sub flooring was not replaced due to R&S guys feeling like it could still be useable, but once the plank flooring was installed there were huge dips and pockets that you could feel underneath your feet in the sub flooring when you walked the area. I called Clayton up with my concerns about the issue with the foyer area…He sent a guy out within 2 days of our conversation to check out the issue and at that time it was explained to me that the floors are covered under a 1 year warranty if absolutely anything goes wrong. This warranty was included in the purchase of the flooring and the install and it was a great surprise to find this news out. Within the next week they had a guy come out to fix that entire area at no additional cost to my sister and I. This guy was very thorough with explaining the process of what he would do to the sub flooring where we will not ever feel those pockets again. I must say my sister and I were extremely pleased with all 3 of our choices for flooring and the service that R&S provided was exceptional!! We have gotten tons of compliments on the Barnyard Grey color we chose on the Vinyl Plank and we have highly recommended R&S Flooring out of Brentwood, TN to everyone that asks about it. Thank you guys…Especially to Bill and Clayton for making our home as beautiful as we had it pictured in our vision. Your company is absolutely awesome!

Description of Work: They made a mess of our home! We installed hardwood floors and had our new home painted before moving in. The sanding guys ran into nearly every single (and I mean every one) baseboard, window sill, and door in our downstairs, taken out chunks and making dents. In addition, they got some sort of shiny substance on all of our walls, forcing us to pay to get several areas repainted! I've seen thirteen year olds take better care in houses. What ever cost savings you get from R&S you pay more than double on the home repairs after they are done. Go elsewhere!

Description of Work: The crew that laid the hardwood were excellent. However, it's the second crew(sander and stainer)that I am having problems with. To date I have had 3 coats applied. There are still blotches of light stains. In other areas there are dark circles revealing itself even after 3 coats.

Description of Work: The installation and product that was installed so far has been great (5 months in). The sales representative and project manager that came to our home were professional and performed their jobs well. The older gentleman who who works in their store was great with initial consultations and product recommendations. He seemed to know the products well and provide good guidance. Although, he did seem to entirely forget who I was even if I came in on consecutive days. | |Unfortunately, the office staff is quite lacking in professionalism and basic customer service. There was constant miscommunication and issues with getting the quote corrected based on what we were doing. We elected to save money by doing our own demo and product pick-up, but they kept adding those items back into the quote. Additionally, it took them several tries to get the quote correct based on the product and areas we elected to have them do. They also ignored requests for the information about the product pick-up location until the day before installation was to begin. I had to rush around getting that completed due to their lack of responsiveness. | |To make matters worse, after being advised to use a floor underlayment and being told it had been quoted (and being on the quote itself) we had to argue with the store manager for over an hour to get them to install it--while the installers waited at our home for a decision. The manager told us that we were wrong, that we didn't know what we were talking about, that she wasn't going to give us what we were asking for unless we paid for it, etc. We even offered to split the cost and pay half if they would, but she would not budge. We also pointed her to the manufacturer's recommendation of using the underlayment and being required for the warranty/guarantee. After asking to speak to the owner she finally conceded to provide an underlayment (not the one that was originally quoted, though) after making a few condescending and snide remarks. | |My wife and I are not typically hard to please--we just expected what we were quoted and had paid for. I felt like they were trying to pull a fast one, which I did not expect. I've never been told, as a customer, in condescending tones, "You don't know what you're talking about," and "You're wrong."

Description of Work: R and S installed pre-finished engineered wood flooring on concrete slab downstairs and on plywood subfloor upstairs. From start to finish, every employee at R and S was professional and exhibited a strong expertise in wood flooring. Ray Creighton was our account manager and he did a great job quoting us and helping us figure out the best approach. Bill did a great job in the showroom helping us select the right wood (and let us use several samples). Clayton Phillips was our project manager. He did a fantastic job guiding the crew and resolving any issues we had. Our smoke alarm stopped working due to all the demolition and he even replaced it for us at no charge. If you want excellent service from start to finish and a guarantee that they will not stop until you are completely satisfied, choose R & S and ask for Clayton to be your Project Manager.

Description of Work: R&S tore out linoleum and installed engineered hardwood into our kitchen and powder room area (glue-down onto a concrete slab, approximately 300 square feet). Although there was significant rework in our case (unexpectedly, the type of glue used did not work for our floor, for still-unknown reasons), the installation team and project manager were collectively persistent, professional, friendly, and committed to ensuring a top-quality result. Let me share exactly how committed R&S was to quality: there was no additional monetary cost to me, despite the job requiring approximately 2.5 times the effort and materials planned. I highly recommend R&S, and will likely work with them again.

Description of Work: Overall, I was pleased with the service I received from R&S. Everyone I dealt with was extremely professional and willing to take care of any issues. They receive a "B" rating because the installers showed up late due to another job running over. I know things happen but that delay meant they could not finish everything in one day (which they would've been able to do had they arrived on time). To their credit, they did show up the 2nd day on time and early in the morning and was able to finish up in a few hours. There are also a couple other things that I wish I would've known beforehand: 1) Someone else will be picking up leftover debris, i.e. empty boxes, wood cuts, etc. So since my install occurred on a Fri/Sat, the trash sat in my yard over the weekend and was picked up Monday. Not a good look. 2) My install was completed by two different parties: a couple guys did the bulk of the work, then another guy finished the "carpet cut", which is I now know is the person that puts the carpet under the transitions between carpet and bedroom/closet rugs. Why that could not be done by the hardwood installers is a mystery to me. Anyway, like I said before, I am pleased overall with my investment and how I was treated. I would probably use them again in the future and recommend them to others.

Mr. [Member Name Removed]: Thank you again for choosing R&S for your flooring needs. I was sorry to hear about your job delay; we do everything possible to start a job first thing in the morning, however, there are times that we run into unforeseen problems on a previous job. The trash is typically picked up at the end of the day at each job site and is hauled off to the dump by a separate crew. The install crew simply do not have space in their trucks to haul off the debris. I am sorry that this was not explained to you. Your project manager is the one who tucked the carpet. He is trained to do this professionally and it also give him a chance to check the job. In the future, I will make sure that this is more thoroughly explained so as to not cause confusion. I do appreciate you bringing it to our attention and your understanding. We look forward to many more projects in the future.

We looked at all different types of wood flooring and were surprised that the real deal was so affordable. Plus this flooring can be sanded and re-stained multiple times. Should we want to convert other floors to hardwood the stain can be matched which was important to us. The workers were professional and always available by phone. We are extremely pleased with the end result. I highly recommend R&S Flooring.

I just bought this condo and the floors were not taken care of by the previous owner. I thought I might have to replace them. Everyone I called said they could not be refinished. When Tim came out he said he'd send one of his people to sand an area in a closet and see if they could make it work. They did!!! The cost was $5000.00 cheaper to resand than replace. The floors look beautiful.
Description of Work: R and S re-sanded/refinished my living room and dining room wood floors. They did an excellent job. The floors look brand new. Jeremy and Mike were very informative as too what was going on and what would happen. I even went back to the store a few days later and ask for one more coat of the polyurethane and Tim said "we'll be there in the morning"; no extra charge.

R&S came and did an inspection and gave us a detailed quote. We were able to see the line items that we wanted versus those we could do ourselves (i.e. remove carpet) We selected them after seeing two other bids. They scheduled us within two weeks of our decision. They installed the hardwood over two days and sanded and finished over the next two days. They cleaned up and came back after a week to verify that we were happy with it.
Description of Work: Installed new hardwood flooring in remainder of downstairs to match current hardwood and laced them together. They also refinished the older flooring. Entire job was handled very well.

Never even had the opportunity (read above)
Description of Work: Called them first b/c of the "reputation" on Angie's List, however, after making the initial call to set up a time for them to come over to view my *very small* job and to create an estimate, they did NOT show up on the day it was scheduled and furthermore I NEVER received a phone call stating they were late/needed to cancel. There's NO excuse for this, should have at least got 1 phone call out of courtesy. It's a competitive world and you get one chance to make a first impression - R&S failed.

Tim was very prompt in response to my initial inquiry for an estimate for refinishing my floors. He assured me that the floors were still in very good condition; although there were some black spots in areas (which he attributed to pet urine from previous owners' pets) that he said would not sand out, and those areas would need to be patched. I went to the showroom and chose my stain color, and I was told that this was documented and the crew would have it when they arrived. On the day of the job, the two workers were kind enough to help me move my heaviest furniture, which I could not do alone. They also taped up the vents and covered my television and moved clothes from the closets, which I did not know I was supposed to do. Unfortunately the men were not aware of exactly what they were supposed to be doing - they did not have any record of my stain color and the patch work that was to be done. When I mentioned to them that Tim had said the black spots would not go away unless the floor was patched, they assured me they would, and even if they didn't come all the way out, the stain would be dark enough to hide them. After the initial sanding, I came back to the house to look at the progress. There was a significant amount of dust in the house, much more than I would have expected with the "dustless" system, which I was told would remove something like 95% of the dust created. I relayed this information to Tim, who adjusted my initial estimate, which had included utilizing the special vacuum system. When it came time to (again) choose a stain color, the team painted on three different colors from which to choose, based on what I had told them I wanted. The finished color came out beautiful, but the dark spots persisted. They are not nearly as noticeable as they were previously, but when I sent Tim pictures of the spots, he offered to send the men back to fix it if I wanted. I decided to leave it as is for now, and I was not charged for the service (as per the original estimate). I had told the workers that I wanted the floors to be shiny, and they talked me out of it, saying that it would show more footprints and would "look like a basketball court." They told me that a semi-gloss would still be shiny and would be most practical, so I agreed to that. The finished product looks really nice, but it's certainly a matte finish, which was not what I wanted. It may be a better decision in the long run as far as not showing wear and tear, but I was a little irritated that I was talked out of my original plan. When the worker came to put down the shoe molding, he told me that some of my outlets weren't working in the house. We looked at the breaker box and he noted that one of them had been completely blown and was broken. Tim was informed and offered to send someone to the house to fix it, but it would be a day or two. As I had no lights in my bedroom or bathroom, I did not want to wait that long, so I had a handy relative come over and replace the breaker, which I paid for myself. As Tim had been accommodating with adjusting the estimate for the services that were not rendered (and he went by my word only when I noted there was too much dust), I did not ask for reimbursement, which I'm sure he would have provided. I would certainly use this company again, but I would be more assertive about my choices and plan!

Had a firm estimate to replace a section of floor that had water damage and then to sand and stain the entire kitchen and half bath to match. A long wait ensued to get the poplar to match the floor and then again when the supplier delivered the wrong size. The first two crews were excellent: the ones who pulled out some moldy cabinets and then the crew that removed the damaged flooring. The next process was a nightmare. Probably the worst contractor experience of my life and this is my sixth house. One of the workmen was personally offensive, making off-color remarks. They didn't seal the room off adequately, they didn't move the refrigerator out, just shoved it across the room where it leaked and also left marks in the soft exposed poplar. They finally moved the fridge into the dining room, but then never got the floor sanded and sealed to match. Then they vanished. I called and called and finally the owner came and saw what a general mess they had made, offered to cut the cost in half, which I did very much appreciate. Around this time, the original crew sneaked into the house through the back door without telling us and made another little attempt at correcting the issues. Finally the owner sent a new workman to sand and stain, and he left sanding marks on the floor and put sealer over dust and applied high-gloss when I had made it crystal clear I wanted matte finish. He had to come back and re-do. Plus they used Miniwax stain several shades darker than the original and never asked me if that was the color I wanted. Then they failed to clean up their trash, take off the tape, the plastics, or to rehang a door to a utiltity closet. At last I was so sick of them I told them not to come back and I took care of the cleanup.

The finish crew involved in this project which took place in the fall of 2010 were terminated. I felt that I did every thing I could to resolve this customers concerns. Her bill was adjusted to less than $400 on a project in which the material costs alone were more than $500. I'm confident that her experience is not at all an experience that will ever be repeated. We as a company in a years time will complete aprox. 750 project ranging in price from $500 to $25000, the number of complaints that are not resolved to our customers satisfaction are virtually none. However because the more than 1300 customers we have left satisfied since this project occurred have not posted comments, this one negative review may disproportionately effect how we are viewed by prospective clients.

I had received an estimate from R&S Flooring over 2 years ago to sand and refinish 900 sq feet of red oak hardwood floors...The estimate included removing and replacing an area that had some water damage from a leaking chimney... When I called around the first of Sept. 2011, they told me they would still do the work for the same amount as the estimate. When they removed the flooring, we found that the sub flooring was also damaged so bad that it had to be replaced also.... They replaced a large area of the subfloor and replace the hardwood . They did not charge any extra labor for that . They only charged for the actual cost of the extra materials need to repair the subfloor and the extra hardwood since the damage was so much worse than it looked like on the surface... I am very happy with my new floors.... The new areas match the old floor perfectly. I will call them when I replace the last 2 rooms of carpet with hardwood.....

I recommend working with Tim Goodwin. He was honest, punctual and professional from start to finish. His crew did good work within a tight time frame. Three small problems arose, however: a lack of dust control, subpar edging work in one room and a missed strip of wood near a vent. Tim addressed all three problems very quickly at no charge; he also reduced the price of the job to account for the dust left behind. He was quite conciliatory and pleasant throughout. When dealing with any flooring job that involves sanding, I recommend covering your HVAC intake and vents with taped seals yourself; don't rely on the flooring crew to do this. It'll save you a lot of time and sneezing later.
