The heat man came, checked my pump and said it was fine. He then gave me a bill for $550. They quoted no price to do the work and whenever I mentioned price they changed the subject, until the very end when he had looked at my pump. The next day I called them up and said they hadn't given me a receipt or papers saying what they had done. He said that he would email it to me in 5 minutes, and I have not yet received anything.

Jacob arrived on time assessed the problem and gave us a price and did the required work. Jacob was very professional and easy to work with. The blocked drain required a lot of work because of the age of the plumbing. When finished Jacob gave several suggestions for preventative measures and was very professional. We will ask for him in the future.

another plumber came to the house aprilf 2014. He discovered the old water heater we're still running II contacted Gene love and they were supposed to compensate me for my utility usage however they will not contact me.. I have written and called



GENE LOVE FINALLY COMPENSATED ME FOR THE POWER USAGE OF 58 MONTHS.  IN THE MEANTIME, I HAD TO CONTACT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND THE SC DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS.  AFTER THAT, GENE LOVE PAID

It was the worst experience I have ever had with any workman.

First, he told me my hot water heater was totally ruined from water that had run through my basement during the summer relentless storms, and that I needed a new one at a cost of $950, or he could pull mine apart for a cost of $750 and clean all the rust out and put it back together.

Then he told me he couldn't get a blue flame.  It was orange.  The hot water heater could not be fixed nor lit, as it was dangerous.

I told him I didn't want Gene Love to replace the hot water heater at a cost of $950, nor fix it for $750, as it is covered by my homeowners policy, and I wanted to check with that company first.  Further, that the hot water heater was covered for complete replacement at no cost if it was damaged as he indicated.

He said, "You're insured?"

I said yes, and asked him to write down his findings on a Gene Love receipt, that I would contact the company that covers the hot water heater for damage, and that they would send a representative to look it over and see if they concurred, at which point they would replace the water heater at no charge using a technician of their choice.

As soon as the Gene Love technician heard that his opinion needed to be corroborated, he said, "Let me take another look at it.:"
It wasn't even a minute before he came back and told me, upon further inspection, that the hot water heater was working perfectly and had not been damaged.  The color of the flame was as it should be.

I mean, the man lied boldly right to me face, then did a complete 180 degrees, all inside of a minute.

If that's not shoddy and service and fairly criminal, I don't know what is. 

I would never use Gene Love again.

I was there with the technician as he inspected the system outside and inside.  All seemed well for awhile, but as I watched him take a panel off the outside unit and test some wire connections, I saw him pull a wire connector off, but he pulled it with a pair of pliers by the wire itself, not by the connector.  It was not an easy pull, so I cringed when I saw him do this, knowing that could over-stress the wire.  That was not good electrical practice.  Once he finished, he put it back together, and it ran fine, just as it had for the past 10 years.
About 3 or 4 days later, the whole system died for the first time in all those years.  I called them back and they sent a technician back out to see if they could determine why it wasn't working.  I followed this technician, too.  He was nice and thorough, but guess where he found the problem.  Where the previous technician had pulled that connector by the wire, the wire had burned in two at that stress point.  It was black, charred and burned.  He cut the burned part out, put a new connector on it and reconnected it.  He did not charge me for this return visit, and the system has worked just fine ever since.
As the homeowner, I can never know if the first technician created that problem deliberately, or if it was just incompetence.   Had I not seen what had happened, I could've ended up paying lots for repairs that would have been totally unnecessary had the first technician not come in the first place.
With that being an unknown on my part, and this being the first time I had used this company, I was unable to develop any trust with them, so I'll use another company  next time.

Gene Love's representative, Jerry Freezon, arrived on time, was very professional and got right to work.  The old doorbell had been left for years and we needed it taken down to paint and wallpaper.  He next checked out the fan in the guest bedroom that was
swaying.  I had purchased a new fan thinking that was the problem, but he said he could save me some money by repairing the box the fan was attached to.  It was dangerous the way it had been installed originally but he fixed the box and now the old fan works perfectly.  I also had a light bulb I had tried to remove from another fan and the bulb had broken off in the lamp portion of the fan. 
He repaired that also in a very short time.  We are on the Service Partner Plan with Gene Love and could not be more pleased with them and their service.  Special thinks to Jerry Freezon.  Jerry: you did an excellent job.

pWe had a $19.95/month service contract with Gene Love for several years.  It gave us preferential treatment for service and a discount on some services and purchases, but I don't think it was worth it, unless you have a lot of problems.  The company is generally expensive, and they always recommend replacing plumbing fixtures instead of repairing them.  But it is a big company, which means that they can always get someone to you quickly if you have trouble, and we found that the work they did was good.

Immediately available.  Some of the other guys, you have to wait for, and with SC heat, that can be unbearable.  Felt like the free check was the catcher.  Then I paid more than I was use to paying.  Job was acceptable.

I started to notice a change in their business practices about a year before I lost all faith in their company.  Although their plumbers are knowledgeable and very personable, it appears that their management strong arms them into "sell, sell, sell!"  It was really intolerable and very very expensive.  Over the years I spent thousands of dollars with Gene Love plumbing but when it became apparent to me that their primary focus was "selling" me and not "servicing" my home I had to find alternative plumbing work in my area.  I have been told by plumbers who are no longer with Gene Love that they are specifically instructed to "find a problem" at the clients home.  I  sent Gene Love Plumbing a very respectful letter voicing my concerns and never received a word back from the.  It may the worst, most inconsiderate customer service experience I have ever experienced.  I am now using an excellent local company, Outhouse Plumbing, and am very happy with all the work they do at my home.

We are a non-profit, no Kill, animal rescue organization.  Money is very tight and we cannot afford to waste any. I am a non paid volunteer who is the  President and Treasurer.   Our problem begins when one of the three employees noticed a leak in the mobile home used to house   rescued cats.  It turns out we had three leaks under the house.  We called Gene Love plumbing to have the leaks repaired.  The service tech came to shelter and gave a quote of $1,006 to repair the three leaks.  The secretary of the board ( a volunteer position) for the organization, approved the amount over the phone. The tech said that they required a check immediately after the service was preformed, they agreed to meet after the work was done and she gave him a check for $956.00 after a $50.00 dollar discount.  He worked less then three hours, charging over $300.00 per hour!!  The tech also quoted a price of $200.00 to repair the toilet.  The toilet needed a new valve, total parts would be less then $20.00 at Lowes.  Having repaired them at my home, 15 minutes would be required to do the job.  This would have been $180.00 in labor for 15 minutes (since he was already there, no travel time) I thought this was high so we declined.
When the tech meets our board member to get the check,he tells her that our mobile home has polybutylene pipes and we need a complete redo of the pipes under the house.  Polybutylene pipes were subject to a class action suit for leaks.  However our mobile home is too old to benefit from the suit.  The only solution is to replace all the pipes under the mobile home.  The tech quoted a price of $3,500 to redo the pipes.  Another Gene Love tech came to do some electrical work later, he was also a plumber, who  quoted a price of $2,000 to do the same work (on his off day). The second tech called me later to give me the quote, when he found out that another employee had also quoted, he backed off and said he would have to talk to his supervisor.( I never heard from him again).  The first tech called and requoted a price of $2,336 to repipe our mobile home.  Since I had complained about the $956 charge (he never explained the reason for the high price)for three leaks he pointed out that the new price is about $1,000 less then the original.  This would be our discount since we had already paid the $1,000. I told him that I would think about it. We eventually got 5 different quotes from them  for the same work.  We declined all quotes.
The day after the work was completed we had three more leaks, so we called the tech.  His explanation was that since the system now has more pressure, the old poly pipes could not handle it.  There are also other explanations such as he could also have knocked some of the pipes lose when he was under the house, we have no way of knowing. He offered to come out at an additonal cost. We declined.
Since, we had a number of concerns, I called the office and asked to talk to a Customer Service Manager.  He called me after couple of days, we are  all busy, no problem. I explained my concerns, high cost of the initial service, high quote for toilet repair, different quotes for same work and since we had three more leaks we were back to where we started. He listened and said that they were higher than some others but were worth it.  It didn't help me becuase we still had three leaks.  He also talked about his overhead costs and how much it costs to run a business.  I mentioned that I have been an accountant for 30 years and understood all about costs and costing methods. There were also the fixed prices for different  work no matter how long it took. He also mentioned that we had approved the cost of the work before it was done. I agreed that we had approved the work before it was done, but still would like answers to my concerns.  He did say once that "maybe" the cost was high" but offered nothing in return.  I will never use Gene Love plumbing for ANYTHING again.  I had another plumber come out and he fixed the three leaks for $171.00, he also found a pipe that had been chewed by an animal, which had to be there when the tech from Gene Love was there.

Hot Water Heater Pipe leak about one foot away from the hot water heater fittings at the top of the unit.Outrageous Price -- $469.00 for about 15 minutes of work and about 8 inches of PVC pipe.

I have a contract with them and have had quite a bit of experience with them as I have had them for both electrical and plumbing, and also for air-conditioning work. They come out on a regular schedule and check for the various things in the electrical and plumbing areas. If there is a problem then they go ahead and schedule the work straight away. The men who were sent in here are really professional. They are clean and represent themselves well. They were able to get in and do the job and I appreciate that. They are quite responsive and their management deals very well with me, and I’m pleased with that as well. They are very good and have a nice system in keeping up with the home owner.

The faucet was installed correctly as far as I can tell.  The technician was pleasant  and put foot covers over his feet as they advertised that they do and he did show me their price book . It was my stupidity for not just paying him for the service call and letting him go.  I should have checked out Lowe's first or Angie's List...Now that I am a member I will certainly use Angie.  After mentioning this experience on Facebook without mentioning the company name, I had many friends in the area respond that they new exactly who I was talking about from their own experience or someone they knew in the area who had been greatly over charged for work done by Gene Love Plumbing.
