Absolutely perfectly. From the advisory process of selecting the appropriate units for my needs (including discussion of efficiency ratings of various options and the applicable energy savings rebates), to the installation, everything was done with professionalism, courtesy, and attention to detail. Although there was a fairly wide range of prices, depending on the types of equipment chosen, there was zero pressure to choose a more expensive option. Every person who came to my house was neat in appearance and courteous, going out of the way to make sure that I understood each step of the process and that I was satisfied. For the two unexpected installation problems that occurred, neither of which had anything to do with them or their products, but with wiring problems related to the age of my house, they just handled these problems - without moaning or groaning or upcharges. The job supervisor came out several times to be sure that everything was going well and also came personally to help troubleshoot the two problems that arose. They even removed old ducting material and other old furnace parts/trash from the attic area that had been left up there by the previous installers many years ago - and without my asking them to do it or pointing it out to them. I have never had a better experience with a service company and will use Davis Services for all of my HVAC needs in the future.

Mike Stoffer was the sales representative and he was courteous and very knowledgable. We initially asked for a quote on a geo-thermal system and Mike showed us the Lennox Sun Source solar option. He also recognized we had a return air issue with the current two unit system we had and recommended the zoned single system to provide more air flow. The installers were on time and keep the house clean as they worked. Quality of installation was exceptional. The install time line was accurate. Solar panels were installed on the roof and look great. Jay Meadows conducted final inspection and answered all our questions. The unit operates great with less run time to heat or cool. We can feel the air movement in the rooms from the distribution vents, when before we could not. Overall the experience was enjoyable and the customer service was exceptional. The enery savings will be significant. My power bills preceeding the installation was: 01/25/13 - $364, 02/25/2013 - $422, and 03/25/2013 - $362. The install month was: 04/25/2013 - $235. My last bill was 05/25/2013 - $137. I went from around $400 to $137 a month. Couple these savings with a Federal 30% rebate and SC 25% rebate on the solar and the return on investment will be less than 6.25 years. After that will be savings in the pocket.

All of our technicians receive training in home performance because the home itself is a vital key in determining how well the hvac system works. Many technicians just fix the box and walk right by thermal bypasses and other problems with the home that can make a huge difference in the comfort level and utility costs of the home. At Davis, we make an effort to point out these problems and allow the customer to address them if they choose.

You need to know exactly what you are talking about to them, otherwise they will invent something. Tried to tell me i needed a special ducting off of my furnace at an expensive rate. I check with other A/C companies and was told it was not needed. They did quote me a yearly contract of which I took. When the repairman came out on Jul 10 and check my A/C and furnace said it was all fine except for the special ducts I needed. When the technician came out and did the summer check on 7/31/12 found I was very low on freon. Why did the tech that was out did not catch this on 7/10/12. After the freon was put in my A/C worked very well.

Dear Customer, I looked back over your service tickets and notice that every time we have measured the static pressure on your system, it has been 0.66" water column or above. This does indeed indicate a inadequate duct system. The maximum static pressure is usually on the data plate of the equipment, but if not, it is in the product data for that model furnace. Unfortunately, we are one of only a few companies in this area that actually measures the pressures instead of using rules of thumb that have been passed down for years. We have techs who graduated the local technical schools and were never showed the importance of static pressure, how to measure it, or how to interpret the results, but I hear that is changing. I will be glad to meet you at your home, measure the static pressure and compare it to the data plate on the unit. Just because you have spoken with a poorly trained technician from another company does not mean we are inventing anything. It would be interesting to know what static pressure they recorded before saying everything was fine and nothing needed to be done. Had you have called and ask questions before taking to the internet, I would have been glad to try to explain how we do things differently. The fact is, we are apparently the only company you have encountered who has tried to inform you of the shortcomings of your system, which are costing you money, and recommend corrections. Many systems are wasting energy due to this same issue. It is up to the technician to point out the shortcomings, so the customer can decide how they want to handle them. Just because you don't want to make the improvements don't mean we are making it up. Visit http://www.certaincomfort.org/ and see for yourself the truth. Many times these seemingly minor duct issues become major problems when you change the equipment because newer higher efficient equipment runs under stricter parameters. Energy bills then increase while comfort levels decrease, exactly the opposite of what is expected after purchasing new equipment. Again, our techs did you a good job by pointing out the shortcomings of your system. What you do with that information is up to you, but many choose to make the improvements and enjoy decreased energy bills and increased comfort levels while extending the life of their present system. Checking the charge on a system with high static is tricky because the unit isn't moving the proper amount of air. It is not unusual in these cases for one tech, or even several techs, to make adjustments to the charge after another has thought it fine. The reality is, you can't properly charge a system with high static because the charge is based on proper airflow and all manufacturers produce charts that will back this up. Feel free to call if you have questions, or want us to recheck the static pressure on your system, but we haven’t invented anything. Our techs have only used the training and instruments they have been provided to offer you the best service they can. thanks for the opportunity to explain, Davis Services

I find it very hard to believe that the blower wheel just suddenly went bad after 3-4 hours on its own. Especially taking into the fact that I heard the loud dropping noises coming from the 1st repair. The company even told me that the new blower went bad because they had cleaned the unit! It was very obvious that the 1st technician either damaged the blower wheel when he installed the new motor part or simply didn't know what he was doing and caused damage from the install. The 2nd tech told me that I needed to contact Bobby Bevill who handles your customer service. I did call him on that Wednesday afternoon and leave a voice message on his line. He never returned my call, so I went to their website and submitted the customer service opinion form indicating that I was not happy with the service. Mr. Bevill then begins contacting me via email about the service. I must say that I have never been talked down to or belittled as I was with Bobby. He even aggravated and taunted me with request to provide him unsatisfied Davis customer's names in exhange for money back on the repair job. I was fortunate enough to get a refund and removed from their annual maintenance plan. Of course, I will never do business with their company again. I?m not the type to look for a free handout or service, but I feel like Bobby was the rudest and most condensending customer service wokers I have ever dealt with. I'm still shocked at how poorly I was treated by Davis Services. I?m not the type of person who complains over products and services, even when I feel that I got a bad deal. As a matter of fact, this is the first time I?ve ever written a letter to a company President over a complaint until now. However, I spoke up this time because I just didn?t feel that I was treated fairly for the prices I paid.
Description of Work: I made my first call to Davis after having loud vibrations from my heat pump on December 10th. The technician Tim came out and after inspection, informed me that the motor to the fan was damaged and needed to be replaced. He went and picked up the fan and came back to my home to replace it. I heard two very loud sounds that obviously sounded like something large had been dropped. I thought this was strange, but didn’t question it. I agreed to pay around $850 for the repair and be enrolled in Davis' maintenance plan program. Within hours of Tim leaving my heat pump began to make even worse noises and I eventually had to turn it off altogether. I put in my 2nd call to your company and a different tech came out. After inspection, he indicated that the blower wheel had been damaged and needed to be replaced. This cost was around $220.

Unfortunately, we have dealt with Member and could not reach a mutually satisfying result. We did agree to refund his money for the Advantage Club membership that he purchased to get the discounts we offer. We understand with as many customers as we deal with on a daily basis that all are not going to be happy and we do get a complaint from time to time. Even knowing that, we still strive to do our absolute best for each customer and sometimes it just isn’t enough. Member was taken care of in a timely manner and actually received more in discounts than what he paid for his Advantage Club membership before cancelling it and collecting his refund. After reading Member’s emails in our office, it was unanimous to just refund the money he was asking for and move on. We know the level of service we offer isn’t for everyone, but the fact that we get so many cards and letters from satisfied customers speaks for itself. All we can do after we have done all we can is wish the customer luck with his/her system and hope that the repairs we made continue to hold up for them. Davis Services

Overall, we are pleased with the new A/C and furnace units. We have seen a reduction in our energy bills. However, there were several big mistakes, in my mind, that prevent me from highly recommending Davis Services. During the quoting phase, I was impressed with Davis Services. They were one of the few companies that actually attempted to look through the house and determine what changes were really needed. Several other companies simply showed me the brochures of what A/C and furnace units they sell. This was actually one big reason we picked Davis Services. They were very professional and responsive to my many questions and subsequent phone calls. The first big problem with their work has to do with equally cooling/heating two floors. Our house has a very open foyer. So, naturally, it can be difficult to heat the downstairs and cool the upstairs. It is especially bad in our master bath and bedroom. I pointed this issue out to Davis. Their response was basically two-fold. One, install new insulation to keep heat/cool air in. Second, to install new downstairs air returns coming out of the ceiling in our foyer. I guess the idea is to force hot air down from the top-floor ceiling to the downstairs rooms. Not too surprisingly, this idea failed. It is common to have our upstairs thermostat read 75 deg while the downstairs is 68 deg and running often. The second big problem was their assertion that the old refrigerant line could not be used, so a new one running up the outside of our house needed to be installed. I can't say if this really was necessary, but I can say that something is not right about the final installation. The line runs up our vinyl sided house just outside our living room. When the A/C compressor starts up we can hear a vibration at the other end of the house. It is significantly louder than anything we had before. To their credit, Davis was (at first) very responsive in coming out to attempt a fix. But, after several attempts, no progress was made. Eventually, my phone calls were answered with promises to come out again which were never fulfilled. I eventually gave up trying to have them fix the problem. One excuse given is that our siding and construction are on the cheap side and allow too much noise through. I find this very difficult to believe. Our house is built in a very standard, typical neighborhood. So, either David Services installed something incorrectly or they are hearing this complaint from many other customers. These two issues give me the overall impression that Davis Services quality is average. Some of their work was certainly good, but their were also big mistakes. I might consider using them again, but I would definitely shop around to other providers first.
Description of Work: Home is a two-story, 14 year-old house. Home originally had two A/C units outside and furnaces in the attic. Davis services replaced the two A/C units with a single Lenox unit. The furnaces were also replaced with a single, high-efficiency furnace. There was also a significant amount of attic duct work done, including two new returns - at the advice of Davis Services. Finally, new attic insulation and an attic tent were installed.

Our installation manager just said that a crew was at this home today working to solve the problems the customer has pointed out. We had tried some things in the past and hadn't heard back from the customer so we thought things were okay, but now know the noise is still troublesome. We have a plan to attack the noise and also changed some of the supply grilles inside the home to help with the temperatures. Hopefully, this is progress and we can eventually solve these issues, but it will probably be summer before we know for sure. Davis Services

Put the unit in 2010. Came back 5 or six times that year to get it right. Wasn't cooling. Forgot to set an electrical breaker. Put in the wrong size filer. Had to get them out to correct that. Had to replace the outside fan.
Description of Work: I bought an extended 10 year warranty in 2010 for $700 when I purchaced my $8200.00 A/C Heat Pump unit. Tried to get them to come out to fix some duct work. Was told the warranty didn't cover THEIR duct work. Also because I did not spend anoth $200+ a year for a maintenance package my extended warranty was no longer good. Would have been nice to tell me when they tried to sell me the maintenance package. They are copping out and not honoring their warranty agreement. Would not have bought it if I new it would cost me another $2000 over the life of the warranty.

Member posted this late on a Friday before he has given us a chance to respond to an email he also sent late on Friday after we were gone for the day. Member is misrepresenting the facts here and not sharing the whole story. I have responded to his email and offered an option to remedy not only his problem, but to keep his warranty intact too. If he continues to take the stand that he isn't spending anymore money period, then there isn't going to be much I can do to help him. Surely most reading this will understand that. We honored our one year warranty and gave him a year of free service, but we aren't going to do work that we aren't going to get paid for. Bobby Service Manager

Horribly. I cannot stress enough how unprofessional and downright redneck these guys are!
Description of Work: We were in the process of buying an old home that needed several key systems to be addressed, including replacing the entire HVAC system. Doing my due diligence I had a dozen contractors come give estimates, with Davis Services being one of them. Davis Services' sales guy was late, and therefore I was not home when he came. He left a somewhat rude note on the door explaining that we had an appointment and that he'd shown and I hadn't. When I called him, he seemed agitated and very disturbed by the fact that I was gathering quotes from a dozen HVAC contractors. We had not closed on the house yet, as we were still in the process of identifying what all needed to be fixed and the associated costs. Mike, Davis Services' sales rep, called the selling realtor and told them that we were breaking the law and that he was going to report us. The selling realtor then called my realtor... it escalated out of control. I called Davis and they told me they weren't interested in hearing about it. I later received a threatening from Brian Davis calling me a "pansy a**", as well as other choice phrases, and telling me to come to their office so that he could kick my a**. Since they are obviously not professionals and were threatening violence, I called the police and filed a report.

They are pretty good. They schedule and you do not even have to remember. They are wonderful. They come and take care of the heat pump. If you have a contract, you get a discount on the parts. They are very polite and clean. The contract amount is reasonable and it is worth it. It is great. It costs probably about $10,000 to replace it. They are efficient and are on time. They’re very professional, for example they put shoe covers on their boots when they come into the house. They let me walk around and see what they’re doing and we talk about different things. I had a problem one time with the air conditioner during the peak summer season and they came right away; there wasn’t any charge for that as I was under the maintenance program. I called a competitor to get a price on the same type of service and he said he was too busy, and I told him I got the price from Davis and he said he would go with them because they were one of the best, and that coming from a competitor. I would use them again in the future if I needed to.

My central air had stopped working during the night, so the next morning I came to Angie's list to try & find someone not too far away with a good reputation to have a look at it. Davis is in my town, not 30-60 miles away like lots of others, so I gave them a call. The tech who came out was friendly & knowledgeable & advised me of the true age (up to this point I hadn't known) of the central air system. I was shocked (price) but not surprised when the verdict was that a repair would be ridiculously expensive - if he could get parts. It was time to replace the system. Ouch. I picked his brain while he was there & he was more than willing to spend the time to tell me what his recommendations were for a new system. He then advised me he would let the sales person know what he had found here & what he had recommended to me. The next day, the field rep came over & we talked facts & figures. Really ouch this time, but a coworker's recent experience had given me a ballpark figure to measure by so it was not a total surprise. We discussed brands & what the prices included & I agreed to an economy line system ( versus a mid range system which was pricier than I expected) that included the ductwork with it. The system (& duct work) I was replacing was at least 20 years old, in bad shape & installed poorly so that was definitely necessary. This was on a Friday & the salesperson told me someone would 'put me up on the board' & get me scheduled for next week & that the job would take about 2 days to complete. Unexpectedly, he also offered a couple window units to keep me cool until the work was complete. I couldn't believe my good fortune, since I was not expecting anything like this; I just figured I'd have to sweat it out until they could get the work done. He brought them back later that morning & I was so grateful. I waited & didnt hear from anyone with an appointment on Monday. I called on Tuesday & explained I needed to request time off from work & give as much notice as possible & was told, no problem, the crew would show up Thursday morning. They had a morning meeting, but I was told they would be on site by 9:15 or 9:30 that day. Tuesday morning came & I was eager for them to begin, but by 10:00 nobody had come or called. I called Davis & was told that somebody 'from the field' would have to call me back. Somebody did call me back & told me I was 'on the board' for Tuesday next week. I said that I was told the crew would start today & did I know who it was that told me today was the day? I said no I didnt, got very irate & told them I had taken time off work to get this done & I better not be waiting until Tuesday! I was told I would get a call back shortly. About 15 minutes later I got a call back saying they had pulled a crew off another job (like that was my problem??) & they would be there by 11:15. At 11:45 with no crew in site or call with an explanation, I called the office again & told them what had happened & that I wanted to know what was going on NOW. She put me on hold & the person I had talked to earlier came on the phone, while he had the crew on the radio & assured me they would arrive by 12:15. They finally did arrive about 12:30 & had picked up lunch on the way because they were eating it when they arrived. They got down to work & got a lot done in spite of blowing the entire morning. During the afternoon, one of the 'field guys' called to apologize profusely for the 'mixup' & while he was talking to me my dog started to bark because one of the crew was at the door. While trying to listen above all that racket, & obviously talking on the phone, I went over to the door to let the guy in & tried to hold the dog while trying to tell the person on the phone to wait. The crew member, completely ignoring the obvious, starts yammering away about whatever he was asking me. I couldnt believe he could be that oblivious! I quickly got off the phone, quieted the dog down & gave him my attention. He obviously couldnt wait. I don't even remember what the issue was. He went back to work & when they were done for the day, told me they would be back in the morning. Just before they left, I went in the back to ask them to make sure both backyard gates were closed so my dog wouldnt get out & they assured me they would. I was very glad I checked in the morning, because one of the gates was left open. They actually did show up the next morning & completed the work (at least I thought so at the time). I must say, the system works great, has brought down the humidity in the house & keeps it blessedly cool. I am looking forward to lower utility bills & the digital thermostat promises to accurately keep the temperature right where I want it. The weekend was very cool & comfortable. Monday morning, I saw their truck pull up again into the driveway. One of the crew explained that there was some bit of ductwork, on the other side of the house from the central air unit, that was looking like it needed replacing & that they were told to 'go ahead & get that done for me'. He gave me the impression that they were doing me a favor by 'including' that with the package I had purchased. At that point, since I didn't know they had not already taken care of all the ductwork, I felt that whatever 'favor' they were doing should have been included in the cost. I paid for a package system & I was expecting the whole package; I wasn't told any rooms would be excluded from the install. Anyway, they got that completed to the best of my knowledge ( what do I know? it's all under the house!) & now the job is complete. Additionally, the crew member was nice enough to mention to me that my kitchen sink was draining directly under the house because the pipes were pretty much shot. He didnt have to bother telling me that & I do greatly appreciate him going out of his way to do so. They cleaned up the old system & ductwork after finishing most of the job & did that pretty well too. After they left the last time, both backyard gates were closed. I will be dropping off a check to pay the tab in full tomorrow, but I have to say that unless I want to micromanage an install, I would not choose this company again because of the hassle involved. The repair tech seemed to be knowledgable & capable, but I don't know what kind of nonsense goes on in the office. Almost every time I called the office for information, they had to have someone 'from the field' call me back. If the people in the field are calling customers back, how are they getting their work done outside the office? Time will tell how well the system was installed & for how long it will perform up to par, but in the future I would not choose Davis again for a new install. Their repair techs are worth what they charge though. : ) update 9/10/11: Well, I paid them for the work as promised on Tues 9/6, but not until another (at the time unrelated) incident occurred. My hot water heater did not work over the holiday weekend so I expected it needed to be repaired or replaced. I called a repair person & they came out the morning of 9/6, but I was not prepared for what he told me. Davis had never turned the gas back on after the install!!! I was fit to be tied! I called the office right away (at 10 am) & told them I wanted my gas turned back on ASAP & I was told it would be 'taken care of right away'. As of about 1pm that day when I went to their office, nobody had come out or called or turned the gas back on. I reported my really awful experiences when I went to pay them & got a 3rd lame apology, but nothing indicating they will fix their issues or compensate me in some way for the hassle. I was also told they would 'call someone as soon as I left to get my gas turned back on' & I told them NO, you will let me know NOW when someone is coming to fix that. We set a time of 2:30 that day & the person arrived as promised. He said he inspected the work that had been done & it all looked fine (as if they would tell me anything WASNT fine), & that he had the gas turned back on & the water heater pilot light was lit. Oh yes, one more thing, they had also NOT put in a moisture release valve for the gas line, but he would get that taken care of 'later this week'. I asked then if when they were done, they would leave me something in the door or mailbox so I would know they had finished, finally. He assured me they would ( of course!). Today is Saturday 9/10 & there has been no call or anything left in my door, so either they never came or never did as I asked and OF COURSE NOBODY HAS BOTHERED TO FOLLOW UP WITH ME!!!! >: ( I have downgraded my report due to the multitude of chances for them to turn things around on this job that they have flat out refused to acknowledge or rectifiy. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN FOR ANYTHING & RECOMMEND THAT NOBODY ELSE DOES EITHER!! They are absolutely horrible at customer service & who knows what they have done under my house!!! I want this job to be completed - as promised & paid for - and NEVER want these people on my property again!!! 10/21/11 I tried turning on my heat today for the first time since the system was installed - surprise! It didn't work. Called those people back for service & couldn't get a tech out until the next day, when - surprise again! They had not turned on the gas to the heating portion of the system. How can this crappy company still be in business?
Description of Work: I first called Davis because my central air system had stopped working, so I needed a tech to have a look at it. After discovering how old & poorly installed the system was, I had to replace it.

It took them all day to figure out a problem. They got it resolved but it took three or four technicians to get it right. They had to replace it because my A/C unit had died in April. They didn't leave with it not done but it just took longer. Their price was what everybody else was charging me. They were on time. I would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Davis Services replaced my outside air conditioning unit.

The tech (Zach) was great! On time, friendly, and very professional. He spent about 3 hours servicing out 2 units. He didn't try to sell us anything we didn't need, and he gave us recommendations on a few things to be aware of without making us feel pressured to do it right away. It's a relief to find an honest company that does a great job and doesn't overcharge you. Fantastic!
Description of Work: We just signed a yearly maintenance agreement with Davis Services. While we used them first on an emergency service call, this particular trip was for standard maintenance on our air conditioning units.

Very professional service. He spent approx 4 hours on the repair. We were a little surprised by the price, but we really have no complaints. He did a great job and the leak was completely fixed.
Description of Work: Our downstairs unit was not cooling, and I called Davis Services to look at problem. We had never used them before. A service tech came out the very next day and did a great job. Our coolant line had a puncture hole in it and was leaking. He repaired the leak and our downstairs cooled off in no time.
