+ -1 moreHe was great. He did what he said he would do and he did it quickly. We appreciated his honesty also--many would have told us we needed a new roof. Shawn said the roof would need to be repaired in future but was okay for now. We didn't get any other estimates because we needed someone right away, but we felt his price was fair.
Description of Work: Water was leaking through the ceiling into the kitchen at my elderly parents' house after one of those awful storms. We needed someone quickly and knew others did, too. We called S.W. Hunt and Shawn Hunt came out that afternoon! He fixed the roof area where leaking and replaced some vent caps. He cut a hole in the kitchen ceiling and cleared out the wet part. He came back two days later to patch and sand and came back again to finish. He was prompt, neat and pleasant. We were very satisfied.

+ 1 moreIt didn't go well at all. After weeks of waiting, they painted the deck a hideous orange color. The later repainted it a color of my choosing, but the paint was so thick and orange that I couldn't go back to the natural look I wanted. I selected a tan color with a white rail, but the orange paint leaked through the white. They came out for the third time and finally painted the patio furniture. Unfortunately, they also painted a once-beautiful holly tree white. In addition to the terrible work, they charged me extra for painting the rail a different color and left the area a mess. They left a toilet seat under the deck, scattered paint cans around the deck, tossed our deck umbrella on the ground, and left our deck torches in the yard. They eventually removed the toilet seat but left the rest of the mess.
Description of Work: SW Hunt power washed and painted my deck and patio furniture. I asked them to power wash the deck and then to seal it with a fresh coat of the sealant I'd been using for years -- a transparent deck stain with a cedar tint. They also cleaned some moss of the roof.

gutter cleaning
+ -1 moreOur gutters were blocked and overflowing from the sides. We found Shawn Hunt on Angie's List and gave him a call. He was on a call at the time, but called back the next day as promised. When he stopped by to take a look, he found that the squirrels had chewed holes through the gutter screens and the leaf and screen debris was now blocking the downspouts. He and his helper cleaned all the gutters and replaced the gutter screens with extra screens that we had. Shawn and his helper did an excellent job and were very quick and professional. I am looking forward to having lots of work done in and around the house, now that we have found someone we can trust to do a great job.

+ 3 moreI could not be more pleased with the prompt response to my first email (within 6 hours), I got an estimate within 24 hours, and the work was started and completed two days later. Shawn and his helper Jesse were on time, pleasant to converse with, professional, and trustworthy. They performed the work to perfection and were incredibly neat. I will definitely call on them again.
Description of Work: Replaced two doors and stained them, replaced a bathroom ventilator, replaced window blinds and replaced a fluorescent lighting fixture.

+ 0 moreHe came over the day I called because he'd lost my phone number and offered to install the fan that day. But because of the way the previous one was installed, he decided to come back at a later date with his helper and do it. He was supposed to be here at 8 am and at 8:30 am I called to see where he was. He said he'd had problems and could be here at 10 am. 10 am came and went, but he did show about 10:30 am. They did the work in a short period with no problems.
Description of Work: Mr. Hunt and his helper took out our old ceiling fan in our bedroom and installed a new one with lights. It looks very nice.

+ -1 moreFrankly, it's difficult for me to write this report. Shawn is a nice guy and seems to mean well - but there appear to be two Shawn Hunts. One Shawn Hunt gets Pages of Happiness on the website and in the newsletter. The other Shawn Hunt does not answer phone calls, doesn't complete work as promised, and generally doesn't live up to the commitments made. We, unfortunately, got this second Shawn Hunt. Materials were not ordered when promised, workers (including Shawn himself) did not come to the house when promised... or call when promised... or email when promised. While Shawn apologized for these (and other issues), the bottom line is that a two-week job took four months - to do half the work. We had other work that we'd originally planned to have Shawn do. Needless to say, we're looking for someone else. If you're lucky enough to get the 'first' Shawn Hunt, it sounds like you'll have a good experience. Unfortunately, we did not.
Description of Work: Variety of projects - replacing light fixtures, replacing vanities, some painting, replacing plumbing fixtures.

+ -1 moreThe handyman who did the work outdoors (power-washing the house and play set, staining the play set, and replacing the flood light) did a great job. However, I was disappointed with the work indoors. It took more than one try to get things corrected indoors, and I was still dissatisfied. They initially painted the French doors the wrong color and had to come back and repaint them white. The doors didn't seat properly. Therefore, the doors weren't aligned properly when they closed. (I hired another worker to install the necessary hardware to get the doors to align). Regarding the cracked wall, they initially taped and painted right over it, causing bubbling. After I called, they returned, scrapped the tape off and spackled over the area. I had to call them back to paint the area. They failed to sand the area and the paint didn't match, so the area looks bad. The louver door broke again about a month after they repaired it, so I called and they returned to repair it again.
Description of Work: SW Hunt power-washed our house, power-washed and stained an outdoor play set, replaced a flood light mounted near the roof, installed French doors, repaired a louver door, and repaired a crack in the wall.

+ -1 moreWhat I thought would be a good experience unfortunately has turned negative. Mr. Hunt came to my home to review the work I requested. He then emailed me an estimate, which I approved. He knew that my schedule was limited, as I am in the military and about to be deployed. He had one of his employees or contractors contact me to arrange for a time to come and perform the work. The contractor called later on the day he was to show up and said he had to reschedule to the following day. The next day, he never showed. I left a message for Mr. Hunt, which to this day (about two weeks) has never been returned. I can only assume that Mr. Hunt is too busy to worry about my experience or has other, more important things on his mind than satisfying this particular customer. I guess I will have to try and find someone else, as he does not appear interested in my business to even return my call.
Description of Work: None, the worker never showed up and my follow up phone call was never returned.

Description of Work: He did repairs on the wood siding and the flashing on the outside of the house. He also finished the shingle work on the shed roof. He charges $90 an hour, but it depends on the job.

+ -1 moreI e-mailed Shawn Hunt, owner, to see if he did small jobs. He got right back to me & said he did. I called him for an estimate, which seemed reasonable. He booked the job promptly (within a few days) and showed up on time on that day. His estimate for the time the job took was accurate. He cleaned up and showed me his work when he finished. The only thing that was unusual was the charge for gasoline, which I knew about up front, but had never heard of this extra charge for a job.

+ -1 moreThey had to remove the vanity, sink, and toilet to lay vinyl flooring. This started July 2nd, and still have not completed the job. On June 5th I signed the estimate and mailed it along with a list of items I had picked out. The last time they were at the house working was the end of July/beginning of August. Every time I call Shawn Hunt, he says he hasn't forgotten, and has to make arrangements with his friend who does flooring. Local store has my flooring, and is waiting for him to pick it up. I feel as if he isn't even interested in this job anymore. It has been 6 weeks, and he said it would take 7-10 days. I think I have been patient long enough. I would like the job done as quickly as possible, but done well.
Description of Work: Replacing floor in the powder room and kitchen, Also spackle, sanded, primed, and paint in the family room.

Description of Work: A leaky roof had caused water damage to the ceiling of our master bedroom, which led to a hole measuring 3 feet by 2 feet. We need the ceiling replaced where the hole was. The two workmen were highly professional, polite and focused. After the difficulty we faced locating a contractor, We weren't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. They honored their estimate. High quality of the work.

+ 10 moreExcellent experience. Shawn & his crew are professional, courteous & hard workers (John H. Can do anything). Willing to do what you want the way you want it done. Advice and suggestions they offered were always helpful. The hall bath Shawn remodeled looks fantastic. We went together to pick out the toilet, sink, fixtures, tile, etc. Which was extremely helpful to me, so we both knew what would be functional as well as attractive in the bathroom. Friends who saw the "before" bathroom couldn't stop exclaiming about how totally different, light, & open it looked in the remodeled version! This house is nearly 50 years old, and Shawn made it safer and more attractive to live in. The crew were very nice, and always cleaned up when they left. I was often not here when they were, but felt very comfortable leaving them in the house without me. Shawn is very honest, easy to work with, and does high quality work.
Description of Work: Remodeled hall bathroom, including tiling, new sink, toilet, shower doors, towel bars, installed new floor in laundry room, re-screened sliding door, replaced wood on deck floor & railing, reinforced beams under deck, repaired and opened 8 stuck windows, replaced & stained closet door, installed floor guides for 5 bi fold doors, installed 5 smoke detectors & co2 detectors, enlarged space & installed new medicine cabinet, installed towel bars & new sink & fixtures in master bath, clean moldy basement wall, removed cabinets & junk from basement, moved cabinets & cleaned basement, replaced outdoor light fixture, fixed dishwasher door & shelves, re-siliconed kitchen sink at granite, cleaned & resealed granite, removed & replaced wooden planks lining driveway, stabilized dining room buffet, caulked sun room windows, hung 3 large mirrors. Extensive electrical work (new outlets, recessed lighting, light switches done by professional master electrician he recommended) & many other misc. jobs!
