We had lined up three different people to give us quotes to install a tile backsplash in our kitchen. David was the first person we had over to look at the job. We instantly liked and felt comfortable with him. He ended up being the only person we asked for a quote. Received a very reasonable quote within a few days. David does great work...he is very professional and very easy to work with. The tile we selected was irregular shaped and proved a tedious install. David never skipped a beat. Talented and very competent. We are thrilled with the way our kitchen looks and definitely intend to contact him in the future for other projects.
Description of Work: We had a glass tile backsplash added to our kitchen. The backsplash, prior to this work, was just painted wall and we wanted to make the space stand out a bit more. We purchased all materials (with some guidance from David) prior to the work being done. We provided a sample of the tile during the quote process.

David did a great job with the work he did in my house. The quality of work is very good and was completed in the expected amount of time. There were no unexpected costs or delays. He also had some good suggestions on other things that would improve the look of my house and increase the value. I have already asked him for an estimate on doing some of that additional work. I would definitely recommend his services to a friend.
Description of Work: The work I needed done was painting the entire bottom floor of my house, which included some ceiling and drywall repair. I also needed wood floors installed on the bottom floor, New doors put In front of my laundry area and some minor work as well.

A young man responded to my request for an estimate to refinish my two front doors. He came to my home seemed very pleasant. He recommended that I replace the doors because of their age and condition. He proposed building me three new exterior for and very reasonable price. I agreed to this, then he told me he would have to come back to measure, (which I thought was strange since he was a contractor} I had a measuring tape and tools. At any rate he said would call to make an appointment to measure. I never heard from him again

I tried to get some one else to drill the holes and put up my shower curtain rod that had to be attached through ceramic tile but they wanted $200 to do four screws! I starting thinking I would do this myself but didn't want to chance me breaking the tile. I called David and he said he was in the midst of a big job but could do it after he got off work even on a Saturday night! He told me he would do it for $40 and I said "sold!" He was great texting me when he was on his way and came in and did the job professionally and perfectly. I will use him again if I ever need anything done!

I found out that he did hardwood flooring, and I will have him do that for me. The work that he did improved the TV quality. It took him a while to get back to me, but he was tied up at a flooring job. He got back to me, did the work to my satisfaction, and I will use him again.

We hired David based on Angie's List reviews to replace the ceiling in our laundry room, which had sustained damage from a leaky bathtub that required multiple plumber visits over several months to fix. The ceiling was a mess with moldy bubbled spots and holes from the last plumber visit. David took three days to remove the old ceiling, install the new drywall, tape the seams, and mud the edges. He explained to me on the phone initially that it would take three visits to do the job right, allowing the mud to dry sufficiently between layers, rather than rushing the job and ending up with cracks. David did a great job and took obvious pride in his work, and my husband was impressed with the quality of the repair. We repainted the ceiling and touched up the walls ourselves afterward, and the room looks great! You can't tell the ceiling was damaged or repaired. David was prompt, responsive, showed up on time, and we felt comfortable leaving him to lock up when we went off to work. David also cleaned up well behind himself, and drywall repair is a very dusty, messy job! With previous repair people, we've spent days cleaning up the mess they left behine, so this was a nice change.

This is proof that Angie's List works. I am currently located in Maryland, but needed to procure a contractor in South Carolina for my elderly parents' bathroom upgrade. I carefully researched the reviews and selected Upstate Remodeling; we could not be more pleased. David completed an on-site visit and emailed the estimate within a few days. The bathroom upgrade was completed on time and on budget. David went to extraordinary lengths to make this process as easy as possible for both of my parents; he worked around doctor appointments, naps, unruly weather, and a host of other challenges. David even went as far as providing shower curtain suggestions and samples so my parents did not have to drive to the store (a task which can be exhausting for them). The most remarkable aspect of this above and beyond attitude is that David took the initiative himself; he saw the need and fulfilled it. Additionally, David also helped save money by using a pre-existing mirror from another room. After the work was completed, David called me in Maryland and provided photos of the work. After disappointing handy men, contractors, referrals, bad advice, and a myriad of other situations, David is the best I have seen in 20 years. If I can trust him from out of state and with my elderly parents, I see absolutely no reason why anyone should continue to search reviews.

This guy showed up on time and was ready to work. Fit and finish were excellent! Clean, courteous and professional. Give this guy a chance, you will NOT be disappointed. UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE Our first experience went well except he left the old door behind. He claimed he did not know if we wanted it or not. My wife explained that we had no way of disposing of it and did not wish to reuse it. She said he could pick it up on the next job which we explained to him. It was something small, replacing an outdoor electrical outlet. He gave a day that he said he would be there but called because he now had a "big" job and he would squeeze ours in because we lived right down the street from him. Almost two months later, we still have the old door and the nonfunctioning outlet. Our arrangement was that he would be getting quite a number of small jobs. So, I gues we are still looking for a handyman we can rely on. It is a shame because he did good work and reasonably but we cannot count on him. If you want to take the chance you will not get bumped by a big job, hire him. If you really need to depend on him I am not so certain.

Very good. This was pre-finished hardwood flooring that had tongue-and-groove joints on all four sides. So even though the scratches were predominantly in two areas totaling about 10 sq. ft. both the manufacturer and David of Upstate Remodel said that all the flooring from the last non-scratched board all the way to the wall would have to be replaced. Resulted in about 34 sq. ft. having to be replaced. David quickly found the materials (which originally had to be special ordered) in two different stores and returned to replace the flooring. Job was completed quickly and professionally. The reason for the B on Price: I thought the labor costs were high for the amount of work. However, our house is located in the mountains and required a drive of more than an hour from David's office so it is somewhat understandable that labor charges here have to be above normal. Overall, we were more than satisfied because David does excellent work.

The Upstate Remodel contractor came and looked at the patio the get all the measurements and all the specifics and he did tell me that he would have to form out a lot of the sub-contract to other hosts because he did not do a masonry type of work. So it's going to have to be masonry work taken care of and then rebuild the deck. He was very honest on what he did and what he didn't.

We called David the week of May 6th and left a message asking him if he would be able to finish some carpentry work that needed to be finished. He called back within a day or two. We explained that we needed some carpentry work finished and he said that he would be at our house on Monday morning (May 13th). He arrived at the time agreed upon and completed the work that same day. He was very courteous and respectful. After he finished his work, he swept the area, and picked up all the leftover debris before leaving. Considering this was a job that another contractor had started and did not finish because of substandard work, David was not reluctant to finish the work. He did a good job considering what he had to deal with and his quality of workmanship is very precise.

Perfect experience! David and his crew are fantastic. From the bid process, to job completion, we were nothing but satisfied. David always did what he said he was going to do. His schedule was right on, and his work is first quality. We allowed him to use his creativity to design our master bath. The walls are extremely odd and hard to work with, and the original contractor had no idea what to do with them. Our house is only 4 years old and we ended up tearing out all the cabinets, mirrors, electrical and plumbing and starting over. I told David to do what ever he thought would make it pop. He stayed for awhile, and envisioned what the room should have looked like to start with, and then went to work. We ended up with a wonderful design with a high end look. We are thrilled with the end result and can't wait for David to come back in the future for more updates.

We got Kevin's name off of Angie's list. When we called him, he came over In a timely manner, gave us a general idea of the price. The next day we got the formal estimate. He had a wedding in N Y the next week and we had a trip to our son's house planned for that same week, so we put things on hold until we all returned. When we got back, we established a start date and got all the materials ordered. Kevin showed up every morning and worked really hard. He started on Monday and finished on Wednesday. He and his helper were both polite, clean, and easy to talk to. We would recommend Kevin to anyone wanting tile work done--just know what you want. We would definitely use his service again if the opportunity arose!
Description of Work: Kevin, the owner, and one helper, installed a tile shower where a fiberglass tub-shower had been. My husband did the demolition on the old unit and had it ready for Kevin to go to work. Kevin did an excellent job and it is beautiful. We picked out the tile, purchased it, as well as a shower seat, a unit for soap & shampoo and gave Kevin an idea of the layout. He prefers it that way.we also picked out the shower head, new handle, drain, & valve. Kevin did move the drain and installed all the new things. We did not have to call a plumber for that. He did a really good job exactly as we asked.

recommend you put everything in the contract to ensure you are both satisfied. Time was a issue as the time prior to when the job started was to be spent building the cabinets and only the island was completed, also most work days started around noon to 1 that elongated the timeframe. David was very pleasant to work with and answered all questions. *UPDATE* Basically 1 1/2 years after our kitchen remodel was finished, things are falling apart. Roughly 1/2 our drawers don't open/close properly(some have NEVER worked properly!). We've had to hire an electrician to fix poor wiring installations. Most recently our pantry doors literally just fell off due to cheap hinges used, not to mention we had previously had to reinforce the pantry drawer bottoms as they couldn't hold a few cans of soup without the bottoms falling out. Simply frustrating...
Description of Work: we fully had the kitchen demoed and rebuilt. We purchased seperately all lighting, facuets, and new appliances, David installed all.The job was very large and may have been to big for Upstate as it took 3 months to complete and was not done in a timely manner. David can do very good detail work and showed that in some of what was completed. My suggestion would be to have a detailed contract that outlines what is to be built, how many shelves, pull outs paint colors, stain colors ect. I would also suggest you identify what hours the work day is comprised of, and how long the job will take. Put everything in the contract as that will properly set the expectations for both parties.

This was a kitchen remodel for my parents that are elderly. They were moving from one home to another and the kitchen needed to be badly replaced. David was very professional, friendly and had a good proposal of work. Even though he wanted to totally gut the kitchen and start over, that wasn't in my budget to do so. He worked with what I had and assured me that the work would be done in a timely manner. I was coming from New York to South Carolina to make sure this work was done, so timeliness was really important and costly for me. He had good reviews that I thought his quality of work from his pictures were great. I also read in his review that his work is very professionally done. I think things were going at a good pace, but they sort of hit a snag toward the end. The countertops were not in stock which put things back, the custom made doors were causing such a problem being made. I couldn't understand why when they were so plain and straight forward. But, apparently they were more detailed than I had assumed and was taking up a lot of time. He would come to the job late in the day, which only made me worry that things wouldn't be done on time. Eventually, it was all done and the kitchen looked 100% better than how they started. My only gripe would be the finishes on things. Parts of the tiled floor wasn't finished, some nails in the cabinet and doors were sticking out. The cabinet doors were not sanded on the edges and had a very rough feeling. The walls and inside of the cabinets needed to be painted again along with the ceiling. When I addressed that with him he told me that he thought he went over and beyond for me. I didn't think that was too professional. He's a very nice and friendly guy but a little too talkative for me. I just had a deadline to meet since I was traveling so far, so timeliness was real important to me. Other than that, he does good work and good ideas.
Description of Work: The services that were to be performed was, the demo of the existing kitchen, upgrading the electrical, replacing the cabinet kitchen doors with custom made doors and drawer fronts, replacing countertops, installing appliances, garbarge disposal, tiled floors, tiled backsplash, paint, caulk, etc.

He did a great job for us. We purchased the material (flooring, ceramic tile. He put down a special material between the kitchen ceramic tile and the hardwood to allow the new floor to float.
