B & D Heating & Air

We own a rental home in Charleston. Our renter called us at 3:00 a.m. to tell us that the heat did not seemto be working and was blowing cold air. I called Band D around 9:30 that same morning. A very helpful woman assisted me. She arranged for one of their guys to go out to the house and check the unit out. They made it out just a few hours later, as promised, and were able to replace the blower motor by the end of the day. The price was great. They honored the 10% discount advertised on Angie's List. The total was $269. My friend's just had to have the exact same motor replaced on her unit. She went with another company and paid $475. I am more than pleased with Band D and will highly recommend them to anyone in the area!

They moved my air conditioning unit from the back of the house to the front. They were very responsive. They gave me several price quotes and were very understanding of our situation.

The service was EXCELLENT, considering I had a "one-in-a-million" problem. On the first visit, someone was here within hours of my call. My capacitor needed replaced and my unit needed freon. The A/C was not working right a week later, so they promptly came back and performed a leak test and replaced a cap. A week later, the A/C was not working right again. They came back and performed another leak test (no charge). Turns out, the leak was in a hose that was touching another hose; therefore, it was undetectable the first time.

This company was very punctual and polite, they even turned out lights when leaving a room and picked up what they brought in on feet or from attic while performing a wonderful job. Called @ 7:30 am and had the air conditioning system checked and replaced by 5:00 pm same day. Well done

They arrived the same day I called and were able to identify and fix the problem within thirty minutes. The house is already much cooler and there is no more drips from the ceiling.

My A/C was not working properly. I have a service agreement with Band D and when I called at 8 AM and explained my problem they told me they would come out today. At 10:00 AM the called and asked if it would be OK to come in now. The arrived and serviced my unit and did not charge anything for the call. They were extremely courteous and left the impression they really appreciate my business.

Went very well. From the initial contact, this company was very responsive. The employees are courteous and friendly and most importantly, keep their commitments. Things are done exactly when they say they will be done.

I called on Thursday morning to get an estimate and the sales guy came to the house around 3pm. I told him I was on a budget and he showed me two systems. I actually went with the higher priced 15 SEER system since the additional cost would be made up with the Tax Credit this year of up to $1500. The sales guy spent his time talking about his systems and not bad mouthing other companies and systems like other sales people have done. He said they had the system in stock and could install the next day at 8:30am. Two people arrived at exactly 8:30 to start removing my old system and eventually ended up with 4 techs installing my system. Everyone was very polite and professional, they used drop cloths inside. I have no complaints from anything I saw during installation. Upon payment I had to inquire about the $200 Angies List coupon and the tech thought it was already added with my quote. He double checked and said it wasn't added and prompty changed the invoice. I don't feel like they were trying to "cheat" me or anything, just an oversight. They were finished by 11:45am and everything seems to be working great. I would highly recommend this company so far and plan on using them for all of my service needs in the future.

I was fairly certain that my A/C unit needed a major repair or replacement, so after checking the list I called B&D because they had the highest score. The tech arrived and barely spoke. We led him around the house to the unit, where he poked around a bit before coming over and saying, "Do you want the bad news or the bad news?" I asked if it could be fixed, he hemmed and hawed before finally saying that the parts would likely cost as much as a new unit. I asked him approximately how much that might be, and he wouldn't even hazard a guess. When I asked him to find out, he went out to his truck for a few minutes, returned to tell me that it was too late to talk to anyone about parts at all, and then charged me nearly $72.00 for the "service call." I was floored - no service had been rendered. I asked him if that money would, in theory, be taken off of any work that would be done to the unit. He said, "It will work out in the end." I gave him my credit card number. He told me that he would have an estimator come out within a day or so - and he did - and the estimate was well over $2000 more than any of the other estimates that I got (I got four others), which included estimates for a new heat pump instead of JUST the A/C unit, which was all I got from B&D. I got those estimates for FREE - no charge for walking out into the yard to tell me what I knew already - that the thing was toast. B&D waited for several weeks - this week, to be exact - before charging my card. I guess they were holding out for that sale. After the initial customer service I received, I wouldn't have given them my business anyway. I honestly am mystified as to how this company got so many glowing reviews. This makes me question Angieslist and the honesty of the reviews. I feel completely ripped off.

He was honest, dependable and very professional. Should have called him first but thought he would be too busy being at the top of the list. After giving quote, called at 8:05 the next morning and said unit was in stock and workers there at 8:30. Completed job. Asked about the Angie list discount and got that after work was done.

Work started, workers kept in touch with office and office called in more help in order to finish the job the same day as it was started.

I never LIKE spending $5K but with the reports from Angie's List as a guide the project was relatively painless/

Everything was excellent. The delivery was exceptional, and their work was done quickly and professionally. They were here when they said they would be here, and everything about them was wonderful. They are certainly a good company, and I could not say enough good things about them.

I had a very good experience with them. I left a message in the morning with the answering service and they called me back within 15 mins. The service man was a little late, but he called to keep me informed which was nice. He came out, diagnosed and repaired the unit within about 30 mins. I was extremely satisfied with the whole experience.

Techs arrived a little late due to bad storms in the area. They were friendly, polite and knowledgeable. It took just a short time to fix the problem.

After I paid, I checked the part on the internet and the highest priced capacitor I could find was $118 so I called Mr. Swartz and asked if there was a mistake on the bill. He said he would have to look at the bill and get back to me. Within an hour Mr. Swartz called and told me that the technician had in fact mischarged me for the part. He stated that this is not the way that they do business and apologized. He also sold me the capacitor for $120 and adjusted my bill. He said that the technician accidentally charged me for the weekend rate on the part. This makes no sense as a part is a part. However, he did correct the discrepancy and fixed the problem very promptly.

The bid we received was several thousand below those of a competitor. The work was done as scheduled, with no disruption and the crew stayed until the job was completed. They also cleaned up after themselves. The installation (a new heat pump unit) works every bit as well as Band D claimed it would. Kenny is very knowledgeable and even solved a difficult air flow problem that a previous solution had not fixed. We like the work so much we signed an annual maintenance agreement with Band D and let our home warranty expire.

Very well. I felt bad that he was here for so long and we could not replicate the problem. After he discovered what was going wrong, he asked if we could live with it overnight (we'd been having the problem for 6 months), and then promised to return in the morning. He did, went straight to work, and fixed it perfectly!

I called twice on a Saturday and got the company's answering service and they never even returned my call. If that is how they handle phone calls, I don't want to know how their service is.
