Our a/c had stopped blowing cold air, so we had called another company, we used in the past, to come check out the problem. We were told it would be $2000 to fix the unit which was in poor condition. We decided it was a good idea to get a quote on a new unit, so the other company sent out someone to give us a price. Once the rep got to our house, he said he would need a couple of hours to measure everything before he would be able to give us a quote. I didn't have time for that, so I ended up looking to Angie's List to find someone else to give us a quote. I called B and D on Friday and was hoping someone could come out the following day. We were told that would not be a problem and Kenny showed up right on time. Kenny was very knowledgable, friendly and helpful. We wanted to get at least one more quote from another company, which we did. The other quote was comparable, but we really liked Kenny's demeanor and called him Saturday afternoon to schedule to have the new unit installed. We were happy to find out they would be able to install the unit on Tuesday and they showed up right on time. Once they arrived, they said they should be able to finish in 4 hours and even though they ran into some problems, they still finished within the allotted time. I would definitely recommend this company and will use them in the future.

After research, we selected four companies to visit our home to make recommendations and provide quotes to replace our Carrier heat pump, in its seventh year of service and in decline. We took quotes on Carrier and Trane units and decided on Trane, more expensive, but superior in quality and dependability, and with a better warranty. The B and D Heating and Air Conditioning representative was professional, answered all our questions, and provided a no-BS quote on the Train unit we selected. As we wanted the unit installed prior to Thanksgiving, a week away, B and D said they could have the unit installed the next day. Nine a.m. next day the salesman/project manager and two technicians were there and the instillation completed in about five hours. They were friendly, professional, knew what they were doing, and did a very nice instillation. I'm a retired professional engineer and particular about these things, and I was very pleased with the on site work they did. B and D honored the Angie's List $200 discount on new unit instillation without hesitation, and provided us with a great job at an excellent price. Their offer included a free year's service inspections, two visits. If you need an new Heat Pump or service on an existing unit, B and D should for sure be on you short list of companies to talk to. I would do business with them again and will recommend them to my friends.

They were excellent. I had another company take a look at the problem, and they wanted to replace the whole system, but B and D Heating and Air found the problem and was able to replace one component for a much lesser price than I would have paid the other company. Their price was good. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

I think a coworker of my husband told him about B and D Heating and Air and I just looked them up on Angie's List, anyways. They returned calls quickly, and considering that it was a hot summer, they came the next day after we called them. Their pricing was definitely fair and the unit is holding up fine; it's on its last leg. When we bought the house, the unit was only supposed to be 4 years old but we found out that it was 10 years old. We actually signed a contract with them.
Description of Work: I've used B & D Heating & Air once in the spring and then we had them back out here about 2 weeks ago. They fixed our central A/C unit because we had a leak.

As new homeowners, we expect experts to be honest, even with young couples. However, I feel the overall service we experience with B and D is (and has been) very poor and dishonest. A few years ago, Band D installed a brand new A/C unit for us. They seemed very knowledgeable and honest at the time, until it came time for payment. The unit cost $5,000 to install and instead of offering the payment plan that was listed on the contract, they demanded the entire payment be paid in full after the unit was installed. In their defense, we had not discussed a payment plan before the install, (new homeowner mistake) but honestly, who has $5,000 laying around, ready to cough up? And when the contract clearly states payment plans are an option, why would we dispute that and assume they were not an option? My husband was the one who was home at the time of service and when he tried to discuss a payment plan, the owner cut him off and said he needed to pay in full. My husband ended up putting the entire cost on a credit card, making our credit card company ecstatic. Now, with a new unit, we would expect that it would work without fail for at least the next 7 years, or so. (We have learned that the life of a unit is about 10-12 years). However, this unit (which is a Trane), has needed service every 6 months since installation. Either the A/C does not work at the beginning of the summer season or the heat does not work at the beginning of the winter season so we have to call Band D for service. The last few times a representative has come out, they've explained that there is a small leak in something and that it would have to be serviced for the life of the unit. I find this difficult to swallow. The unit and service are under a 10 year warranty so every time it is serviced, we don't pay a dime. But that's not the point. Our time is wasted because one of us has to take a day off of work or wait around late evening for them to show up and we sit uncomfortable for a day or two until service is completed. I'm certainly not a perfectionist but is it too much to ask for a good, working A/C unit? And as new homeowners, we just need someone to be honest with us and not bully us around.

B&D has only been to the home twice since the unit was put in on 11/2007. This was due to a Trane defective part that was repaired under warranty to no fault of B&D on 4/2009 and again on 5/2010 due to unit less than a poind low in freon. Neither call resulted in a charge to the customer. To this day the customer has not called B&D, the owner or service manager with an issue on how she has been treated. We stand behind our product and service and if she was unhappy we would have done everything we could to make her a satisfied customer. As far as payment and financing goes when they are given an estimate it states 100% payment due upon completition of the change out. Financing is not offered in-house it is thru Wells Fargo and the customer never inquired about this option. B&D would be more than happy to discuss any of the customers issues with her to make sure she is completely satisfied with the service we offered.

THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED FOR A LEAK THREE TIMES. UNTIL HE WAS SATISFIED HE WOULD NOT LEAVE. HE WENT INTO THE ATTIC AND OUT BACK TO CHECK THE UNIT WHICH IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD. HE ADDED COOLANT AFTER HE WAS SURE THERE WERE NO LEAKS AND CAPS ON THE END OF THE TUBES. I WILL BE USING THIS COMPANY BEFORE WINTER AND BEFORE SUMMER. THEY ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL THE JOB DONE.

The installation went very well. I was impressed with the care and attentiveness of all the workers and also Brad Schwartz's oversight. Nearing completion, it was discovered that the factory had neglected to complete programming of one of the units. With manufacturers phone support, the situation was promptly remedied. It is now 18 months since installation. I have had three service calls. One turned out to be a well problem, another was a burned out pressure switch, and third was a loose wire that became disconnected. The units work well and my electric costs have decreased 25-30% which I attribute to a combination of more efficient units and better insulated and sealed duct work. I am very pleased with the quality of the workmanship and technical expertice. They are responsive to my calls and queastions. I feel like I have developed a relationship with them and I will continue to use and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: I replaced two old WaterFurnace brand water source heat pumps with newer models relocating one from a third floor space to crawl space under house. Also replaced under the house flexible duct work with insulation wrapped sheet metal ducts.

Sheduled an appointment and was out to my house the next day. He took a quick look at my current HVAC system, counted my vents in my home and then concluded I needed a 3 ton A/C unit with a 95% Furnance. I had explained, when I made the appointment, exactly what I needed in my home, but when he got here he didn't seem like he was prepared for the estimate. He had to call his company to get a price for the A/C unit and Furnance - but said he would have to get back to me about the Labor Cost; Duct Work; and Attic Insulation.......I NEVER heard from them again when they left my home! Obviously, I went with another company!

My six-year-old HVAC unit was operating perfectly and I have never experienced HVAC issues of any kind since living in our home. I called Band D Heating and Air to schedule routine periodic maintenance in an effort to ensure that my HVAC system continued to perform well. After calling Band D Heating and Air, I not only have a malfunctioning HVAC system, I also have water damage in my living room. A Band D technician arrived on Thursday near the scheduled time and serviced our HVAC system. The technician said he was impressed with my system and that it was operating well. He also added freon and made the statement, "The system is not really low, but I like to run my systems on the high side". On Friday when I arrived home from work (approximately 5pm), it was raining in my living room. When I checked the HVAC system in the attic they water was coming out of a drain line (the pan under the unit was dry). I called Band D and the after hours phone service said they would have a technician call me to see what needs to be done. After waiting for an hour, I called again and they gave me the same story. Another hour passed and I called again. This time they told me to ensure that my system was off and they would call. I found the service technician's phone number on my phone's call log and call him directly. He said he was on the other side of town and would be at my house in an hour. After waiting for him for nearly two hours, I called back and he said, "Oh, did you want me to come by?" It was now 11pm and he finally arrives and tells me that what my system did was impossible. He says that he will need to get his boss or another technician to look at our system. On Sunday, the our HVAC unit freezes up and discontinues to produce cool air. I call Band D again and they eventually arrive to tell me that my system is low on freon; however, it will not accept the freon. We are told to leave the system off and allow it to defrost and we can try it again later. When I called to speak with the owner of the company, I was given several excused as to why he is not available or can not return my call. After nearly 8 days, I speak with him and he tells me that he wants to make it right and will try to replace my exterior unit as a warrantied item. Another week goes by and several unanswered attempts to contact the owner have me worried. I finally spoke with the owner and he asked for a copy of the repair estimate for the damaged ceiling and drying equipment provided by another company. Another week goes by and I finally have an opportunity to speak with the owner and he tells me that he will not pay for my ceiling. He informs me that he is not responsible for the ceiling damage or poor performing system and that he is not willing to assist or address any of the issues as a result of his company's service. I will not use Band D Heating and Air again nor recommend them to my friends or family. Band D Heating and Air not only provided poor service, they also failed to respond to an emergency situation promptly taking over six hours to respond to a severe water leak related to they HVAC system they serviced one day prior.
Description of Work: B&D was hired to perform a routine maintenance of my HVAC system. This was to include flushing the drain lines in the attic, verify performance of the system and typical annual maintenance of the HVAC system.

The service technician told the member that his system was not to low on Freon, but would operate more efficiently with a little more freon in it. The technician also flushed the unit drain lines with Clorox to remove any growths in the system. The member was with the B & D technician the whole time he worked on the unit. The technician and the member walked outside and watched the system draining properly. The member verified with the technician they system was cooling properly. Th member also told the technician that he was having trouble cooling his upstairs rooms at this time. The member did find the technician number and call him directly about the problem and the member was told the technician was tied up on another job at that time and would arrive at his home as soon as possible. Unfortunately it did take longer to get to his home than anticipated. B & D looked at the problem. Normally the problem he had could not have happened. His unit did have a malfunction but through no fault of the work B & D had performed. When Mr. Schwartz and the service technician met the member, he also stated that 2 other companies looked at his unit and they also told him that there was nothing B & D cold have caused the problem he was having with his HVAC system. After B & D further evaluated his unit it was found to have a weak compressor. Which B & D was willing to work with him on until his wife showed up in our parking lot one evening threatening our company and harassing our employees and telling them what we should be doing. Outstanding experience. Service technician(Kevin) made sure I knew what was going on at all times and explained the situation clearly. Kevin has very good people skills and apparently good technical skills. I would recommend Band D to anyone with A/C problems. It was additionally comforting that he is a local with community ties and an army veteran; easy to trust.

Cindy, the Customer Service representative, on the phone was very courteous and professional. My air conditioning stopped working earlier in the day. I called at 1:00pm and by 3:30pm my issue was resolved. Originally, Cindy wasn't sure if she would be able to get a tech out the same day, but she contacted him and was able to schedule an appointment within a couple of hours. Robbie, the Service Technician was very professional and knowledgeable. He gave me a few pointers on simple maintenance of my A/C unit. I got a discount by mentioning Angie's List.
Description of Work: Air conditioning/heating unit fan was on, but not cooling the house. Thermostat reading was 87 degrees, while it was set for 75 degrees.

Terrific! I made the call, and he was here within an half an hour. We agreed on a price and he said they would be here by 9:00am the next morning. We have been without an HVAC for fifteen years, we bought the house and the house inspector said the unit was in good working condition, and six months later we had major problems and the downstairs unit gave out, and no more than three months later the upstairs unit gave out too. We live on a lake, so I really didn't want to have the outside a/c unit where we eat outdoors. We had built a deck, so we didn't want it on the deck with the noise and everything, but every contractor that I had an estimate from told me that the unit couldn't be moved to the side of the house. One contractor would say that they couldn't move the freon hose that far away, or another contractor would say that he couldn't stretch the electrical that far away. There was always some reason the unit had to go back where it came from, so we just waited, and not having enough money had something to do with those decisions too. When Billy came over, I asked him about moving the unit to the side of the house, he said 'no problem, it would cost a little bit more, but fine'. I couldn't believe it, after so many other contractors telling me that the unit couldn't be moved, couldn't be done, I just asked Billy how soon could he start. Well they were here first thing the next morning. This house is so old, the closet where the previous unit inside was stored was a few inches too small, seemed like a big deal to me, but they went on without a hitch, and the unit was up and running in no time at all. I am so happy with the whole thing, so happy that I don't have to deal with those window units anymore, so happy with every single thing. Really nice people, really professionals in my opinion in every way.

I called this company as a referral from Angies list. The call was made on Memorial Day in early afternoon. B and M's service tech, Charles, answered the call and was on site within 45 minutes. He was prompt courteous and gave the impression that he new HVAC' inside and out". He pinpointed the problem promptly, solved the problem and checked my other units while he was on site. I was impressed at this companies' promptness on a national holiday along with the ability to solve the problem. I would absolutely recommend this company!

I found this company great to work with. The salesman provided me with some good insight and options, as well as the best price of the 3 bids I received. The 2 technicians were great and really did a professional job. Brad, the owner, stopped by to check on the progress at one point and made sure everything was ok. I would highly recommend Band D Heating and Air and will use them again.
Description of Work: B&D replaced my HVAC system, both the air handler and the outside unit, with a new Trane 1.5 ton system. They also reworked my air return and replaced all the grills, and added a new digital thermostat. This was on a 1100 SF rancher.

After 3 calls to the company, a representative did come to obtain info to provide an estimate. We were trying to get a contract signed to take advantage of a state rebate program-which would end when the money ran out. We understood that the company was very busy because of the rebate program and that they might not be able to get to us in time for us to take advantage of the program. After the representative came to our house we never heard from him again nor did we receive the estimate as promised. However, even after the rebate program ended we contacted the company at least twice more (once by phone and once by email) to get the estimate and hopefully, plan the work. But, after almost two months we still have had no response--so we'll go to another company.

It went OK. Nothing special. Nothing unique. Typical in the area of AC Repair. One note was the Tech had very long hair, something from the 70's. Not sure whay anyone would want a long haired technician working for them. He was nice enough, but in todays world, there's just no reason for it. Shows lack of concern for professionalism.

Called for them to check out ice on the A/C coils and not shutting off. I could hear water dripping during the night when I turned the A/C off. B and D Heating and Air responded within 2 days and I was told it was just that I needed more freon, which they did add.

I called them for service and they came out and did the service on my 3 units. They did the cleaning and general check. While they were there, one of the units sprung a leak. I'd hate to believe it but I am not absolutely convinced that they didn't cause it. In the long run, it was a coil that was leaking and it was a $1200.00 replacement on its own. They have a good rating, but we ended up deciding to replace the entire unit because of its age. It was a combo pack and the price was for both the heating and A/C. It's a good unit. It has one piece of it in the attic and the external piece, the condenser, is outside. They replaced both and it does qualify for a tax rebate. The whole house is 3700 square feet, but there are 3 different units. That unit does only a part of the upstairs and was heating and cooling about 1500 square feet. My air conditioning was working but not blowing cold air. I called Band D on Monday and they put me on their schedule for Tuesday after 2pm. They told me that their tech would call 30-60 min before they were coming my way. I called once at 2:30 to get an estimate on time of arrival and they told me it would be a few more hours. At 5:30 I still had not heard anything so I called again and they told me they were very busy but someone would still be coming. I got a call from a tech around 7pm and he was at my house 15 min later. My AC was short on Freon and he filled it up. Told me there could possibly be a leak so we should be aware of it. It they need to come back out and do a leak detection soon then won't charge me to come out. Overall I was happy with the experience, I just wish they could have told me up front that they were very busy.
Description of Work: Measured Freon in system it was low so he added more. There could be a leak (had Freon added last year by a warrenty company) so I need to be aware of it.

New customer, called at 9:00 because I wasn't getting any heat when my unit was on. Tech arrived around 12:30pm same day and took about 20 mins to diagnose that I was low on freon. Tech was professional/courteous and answered all my questions. $79 for service call and $50 for 2lbs of freon. $116 total after using the Angies List 10% off coupon.
