Description of Work: I had brick repairs that needed to be done. The top course of brick on my porch had been damaged by foundation problems and some were damaged by Ram Jack when they removed the concrete to install the foundation supports. Other repairs were; front steps had mortar that needed to be repaired, the end cap on a brick retaining wall needed to be repaired and modified, and I wanted the steps on the back of my house completely rebuilt. | We didn't take a close look at the back steps after they were complete. After everyone was gone, we noticed a small issue with the steps. I called Tony to express my concern. He said he would get the crew back as soon as possible. Within 2 hours one of the brick masons was back making the repair. Tony was good to work with and all of the work looks real good. If I need anymore brick repairs made, I would use them again.

Description of Work: Some of the bricks in our front steps were getting loose and falling out, and the handrails were not stable. Our budget was limited, so Tony did a great job of fixing the immediate problems at a price we could afford. He was wonderful to work with - very conscientious. We definitely plan to use him in the future for other masonry repairs around our house.

Description of Work: We worked with Tony for quite a while and finally were somewhat happy with a portion of the job at the end. He had real problems matching the motar color. We had white and at first he used gray so he had to come back and completely redo part of the job. The other part we just left gray. He never would give us a written quote or an invoice at the end. We had to just send him a check written in his name, not the company. We liked Tony but just did not get the feeling like we got what we paid for.

These masonry projects were extensive and complex. Throughout the entire process, Tony proved that he is an expert brick mason. In addition to his fine craftsmanship, Tony has a strong sense of responsibility. Since this was a lengthy project, he was working at our house for several weeks and proved that he could be trusted to take care of all the property which he dealt with, such as the water supply, adjacent shrubbery, roads to the work site, storage ares, etc. The quality of work was outstanding, and we would definitely use him again if we ever need additional brick/masonry work done. Based on his strong work ethic and high quality work, we would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Tony completely rebuilt a large exterior concrete patio which had been damaged by uneven settling of the dirt foundation underneath the patio floor. In addition, he used existing bricks to virtually rebuild a vertical wall adjacent to the patio and repaired the brick wall surrounding the patio floor. His first task was to completely tear out the damaged patio floor and remove large concrete steps which had put stress on the vertical wall above the patio. All of this was extremely lablor intensive and tedious, requiring considerable patience and skill. after the old patio was removed, the foundation bed was made uniform and solid and the new patio floor was poured with the correct slant to allow proper drainage of rain water. He replaced the old concrete steps with attractive brick steps to minimize stress on the surrounding walls and properly aligned and secured the iron fence around the patio. The iron fence and adjacent woodwork on a door leading to the patio was repainted. Tony also recovered another set of steps which were worn by age and weather and restored a brick planter which was damaged by roots inside the planter.

Tony is a very dedicated and pleasant person to work with. We came to a fair price and he delivered all that I asked. He went above and beyond by trying to do part of the work using an idea I had. The idea did not work, but he still delivered a very good product. He cleaned up the areas worked on very well. I highly recommend Tony.

Tony was a pleasure to work with. All the work he has done here was done in a timely and professional way, and we are very satisfied with the excellent work he has done. He has been thorough throughout the job and has plans to check back in 3 weeks to assess how our drainage issues are doing. Again, a thorough and professional work ethic. We will use his services again.
Description of Work: Repointed brick stairway, built new walkway wall, painted wall, re-did beds and berms to deal with erosion problems. Dug out and laid in new drainage pipes to handle water runoff. Arranged yard services to place new shrubs in beds and clean all edging, low hanging limns on trees, and trim bushes. All residue hauled away.

You will enjoy having Tony do your brick or concrete work. He is NOT like the typical South Carolina home repair person - Tony WILL be there when he says and WILL do the job and the job will be Correct the first time so you will not have to do the job over
Description of Work: Tony is great at what he does. Neat and courteous knows brick and concrete Hewill do a great job for you and cleans up cleaner than before he started I had a drain installed in concrete drive and brick pavers added and a house wall repaired - he matched the brick and mortar like a fine artist

We called he came did some measurements. Called back with an estimate. Was unable to start work as soon as we originally hoped but started 1 week later. He worked late each day to ensure the project was done. He did a great job and left everything cleaner than when he started. Our basement is now dry despite several large storms.

He did that very very nicely. The mortar had begun to decay and I was afraid they would start to come loose. They removed the bricks and got it down to the foundation so it was level. It was quite a job so I thought it was a fair price and I actually gave him a bonus and paid $1000. I was pleased with the work he did. He was certainly true to his word. The quality of masonry work he did, I helped him pick the mortar and cutting stones. I know something about masonry. You have to get he right mix of concrete and sand, put in place properly and that sort of thing. I saw what he was doing and he knew what he was doing and did a good job.

Tony arrived at the agreed time to assess the job and ask questions. Within 24 hours he proided an estimate. I accepted his estimate and he provided a date to start. His crew of three and he arrived on the agreed date. After reviewing the job requirements, the crew did the necessary digging, compacting and placed the forms. They were very maticulas in ensuring the forms were square. The prep work took one day. The concrete was poured the next day. The concrtete was piped in without any problems or spillage. The pad was smoothed and expansion slots were created. The job was completed to perfection, as was the loose brick replacements.
Description of Work: Pour a concrete pad 18' X 20' of approximated 4 to 5 inches in depth. The deminsions had to be exach and the pad corners must be exactly 90%. The concrete had to be piped from a distance of 100' fro the location of the pad footpring. Additionally approximately 10 loose bricks on entrance steps were to be replaced.

I got the quote 4 days after the walk through and it seemed fair. He started with finished the brick doorway. He did a great job of meeting up the new bricks with the old even though my house was built in 1940 and those bricks aren't made anymore. It was amazing how well they meshed. Aesthetics were exactly what we hoped and he took the time to make the structural side more than we would have even asked for. Our fireplaces had old ceramic heaters that had been bricked in. He broke them out, removed all the old bricks and opened up the fireplace as large as possible. He removed our real old hearth stones and the crappy flooring in the firebox. He installed firebrick in the bottom and bricked in the sides and back to make both of our fireplaces look like they were always open burning fireplaces.
Description of Work: I had a door cut into a brick wall which Tony "finished" by making it look like it was always there. I also had to fireplaces knocked out from 1940's coal burning set ups to open fireplaces with firebrick.

Took the right time to try to match the mortar as best he could. He explained along the way, differences of current brick strategies versus those in the 1930's. He stayed within our agreed upon estimate (which was very important to me). When there were "challenges", he relayed that information to me. He did not shy away from the challenges (ie, bricks not as sturdy when cleaning mortar out). Of course, these challenges required more "labor". I was glad that he worked on this job. He was very professional and I feel that other masons, for cheaper prices and less experience, would have done less of a quality job - Which is what I did not want!!!!! Good Job

The 16 year old home we purchased in the last year had signs of morter cracking around tops of windows in a lower level. Some poor quality repairs had been done by the prior resident. I found Tony Standridge from other Angies list reviews. I called Tony and due to his and my schedules it took about 10 days before he could meet me to look at the job. I could tell speaking with him that he knew his trade. He quickly saw the shoddy work done by others and pointed out how he could repair it. I appreciated that he cautioned me that he would do the best he could to match the repairs to the 16 year old morter but could not guarantee a perfect match. We agreed on a price to repair 3 window areas, 1 door area and various patio areas. He started the work the next week. He worked to clean and reuse original bricks as much as possible to maintain a good visual match. As he got done with the first windows, I could tell he was doing an excellent job. We discussed continuing the work to go ahead and also do 2 more windows and a door area while he was here. I am very pleased with how the job turned out. The brickwork all now looks good as new (and is better structurally than it was originally built). The repaired areas blend in so well no one looking at out home would know some areas were 16 years newer than the old. I found Tony to be a true craftsman who takes pride in his work. He works alone and takes time to do it right. So don't expect him to be in and out quickly. It took him about a week to complete our work, with a few long days and some partial days.
Description of Work: Replaced 7 rusted lintels, repaired cracked brickwork surrounding them and repointed areas of a large brick patio, matched new morter to old red morter

As stated above, the project went extremely well overall. The story above pretty much tells it all.
Description of Work: We needed to have the brick steps to the front of our house repaired. Not knowing who to contact for this work, I enlisted the assistance of Angie's list. Among the local masons mentioned was Standridge Masonry & Repair (157 Earline Dr., West Columbia, SC 29170, which had two reviews, both excellent. After confirming that Standridge Masonry was listed in the AT"&T Yellow Pages and had been in business for over 30 years, we decided to contact them on Friday, June 24, 2011. After speaking with Tony Sandridge that day, we arranged for him to visit us on Monday morning for an estimate. Tony arrived promptly at the appointed time, and we carefully discussed the project. (I had taken upon myself to start the repair process by beginning to deconstruct the brick work, salvaging the old bricks, which are no longer available to brick masons, because of the age of our home (~45 years)). The bricks had begun to sag away from the porch and had settled so that those on the left were about one and one-half inches lower than on the right side of the steps. Tony and I carefully discussed the options and arrived at an appropriate approach for conducting the repair. After taking careful measurements, Tony later called me with a resonable estimate of what it would cost to complete the repair (~$850). (I had previously contacted another mason about doing the work, but they failed to provide an estimate, which could have been compared with Tony's.) Nevertheless, my wife and I agreed to have Tony begin the repair on Tuesday, [My wife is a semi-invalid hampered with severe arthritis. Tony agreed to come at a time of morning that would enable me to care for her before he began his work. He arrived exactly as scheduled and after some further consultation began his repairs. He worked very professionally and with obvious expertise, quickly removing the additional bricks required before reconstructing the steps. His work throughout was outstanding, reflecting his obvious lengthy experience and knowledge of how to conduct the repair. He discussed with me the type of mortar that would be best for such a job, and how many additional bricks might be needed. His work was efficient and well done; he used his long experience to pace his work allowing proper timing for the mortar to set up and cure before pushing forward with the next layer. He completed the project by mid-day and it was a work of art. The stairs are beautifully reconstructed using the salvaged bricks. He very carefully cleaned up after his work and was thoughtful and courteous in all he did. Because of the excellence of his work, I gave him a $150 tip. I happily recommend him to anyone needing repair on their brick work. He is simply excellent and proved to be trust worthy.

He showed up at the appointed time, asked a lot of questions before describing what work he would do and the price he would charge. Job took a little longer than he thought, but that was OK. He tended to chat more than I would like, but speaking honestly to him did the trick. Again, will use him on my next brick/masonry job without doubt.
Description of Work: I had used Tony and his father in the past and they had been prompt, courteous, professional and a decent price. This time, it's just Tony and he did just as well, if not more. He tore down the front steps to my house and re-built them. Wow what a great entranceway. Will use him again, hands down.

We have used Tony Standridge of Standridge Masonry and Repair several times to repair our mailbox. It has been hit 5 times in about the same number of years. Tony has repaired it 3 of the 5. The only reason he didn't repair it the mailbox other two times is I only found him after the 3rd hit! He is now on my speed dial! On this last incident, a pool contractor hit the planter on the side of my brick mailbox and told us he would make it right and have his own guys repair the brick. After two attempts, the job still looked like a very poor patch job. It appeared cement was used instead of mortar; too much was used and basically puddled up inside the planter and seemed to be killing my plants; the cement didn't match the existing mortar in color or texture; and the bricks were re-laid unevenly (they sloped downward and were not level). Tony had to take apart the section that was patched - taking extreme care to salvage as many reusable bricks as possible so they would still match the rest of the mailbox. He then matched the new mortar to the existing mortar to almost perfect. Everything looks just like it should! AGAIN! After he was done with the repair, he meticulously cleaned up and left everything looking better than before he started. This is how Tony ALWAYS works! I would recommend him for any type of brickwork you need to have done, whether it is a repair job or new project! He will always try to work around your schedule; and if he is delayed for any reason, he will call to keep you informed. He is super courteous, extremely reasonable, and always has your best interest in mind. As I said, he is now on my speed dial and I won't use anyone else!
