We have several properties that are undergoing full remodels and required electrical work. We did our homework to find an electrician that was rated well. We then performed an RFP process and selected Randy May Electric for having the lowest bid out of several contractors.The terms were that if the work was favorable on the beta unit, we would be giving him the work on our remaining units. We spent a couple months working with him doing a least 3 onsites to the unit, several e-mails and phone calls and we ended up with a final estimate. The details of the work along with pricing were put together into a template that was used for the final walk-thru in preparation for the work to begin.We painstakingly went over everything together and put it in writing to make sure we were on the same page as far as the work being done, as well as the price for each line item. In process of them doing the work, we received a complaint from the maintenance at our resort that his employees had left a mess in the hallway with drywall debris. We had to clean it up in order to avoid a fine, and made Randy May's office aware of the problem so they would avoid it for future. Upon them completing the rough-in work a few weeks ago, we received a bill which we promptly paid. It was approximately what we agreed to for the total job ($1683 vs $1673), so we had no issue paying it. I was told soon thereafter that it was just the invoice for the rough-in and that there would be another invoice for the trim-out work. I was suprised seeing how it was my understanding that we had just paid for the job in its entirety. I spoke with Randy and he said he would talk to his supervisor and find out what the cost would be for the trim-out work. I had to wait over 2 weeks and ask 3 separate times before I finally got an answer that the remaining amount would be $570.00. I was shocked that there was such a huge discrepancy between what we agreed to and what they would be charging. I spoke to Randy on 2/19 and he said that it was probably just extra cutting and drilling work that had to be done. When I questioned further where the extra cutting and drilling was (there didn't appear to be anything done additional than what we had originally discussed), he said he didn't know and that it could be that he 'didn't realize that the unit was on the 3rd floor and they had to be so far away from their truck.' This was perplexing seeing as how he himself had visited the jobsite 3 times and was well aware of where the unit was located. There is also an elevator that is easily accessible for all floors and puts you right near the unit's door. He also said that they 'weren't McDonalds' and you couldnt just pick out the things you wanted done and be charged for it (what else is the point of a line-item estimate?). He was rude and unprofessional during the course of our discussion, but ultimately said he would check with his team the next morning and find out the cause of the additional work. We spoke the afternoon of 2/21 and he said he didn't have much more detail than he had yesterday about why there was extra cutting and drilling. He said most contractors wouldn't have a problem paying extra if there was additional work without an explanation, and that he didn't know what else to tell me. I explained that no one called and asked my permission for the additional work, and if they had, I would not be upset. When I expressed to him that it was an almost $600 difference between what we agreed to and what he was trying to charge us, he said that 'he had a good day so far and this conversation is ruining my day' after refusing to let me speak. He hung up on me when I asked what resolution we could come to. Needless to say, our experience with him has been terrible. He left us in a lurch to have the work completed on the unit they started but did not finish, as well as the others they were slated to work on. The only good experience we had was with Paige Duwell at his front desk who was always very friendly and responsive. This is the first review we have ever made on an electrician, but felt it was important to share this so that our neighbors don't have to endure the same awful experience with Randy May.
Description of Work: The services included the following: re- wiring electrical for a non load-bearing wall that was taken down, adding lighting into a display shelf, changing out light fixtures, wiring several outlets, running cable for TV into a different room, wiring for a range and dishwsher.

We have numerous emails to attest to our conduct in this situation. Randy May Electric bends over backwards to please people; however, we canot please them all. In this particular case, when a customer begins to be rude and demanding towards a business and employees within that business, it is best that the two parties do not do business together. It is simply not beneficial to either party, hense this slanderous Review. Randy May Electric always strives to provide the best quality work within the best price possible, and compatible with this economy. Estimates are always availble before any work is performed.

The service man arrived pretty much on time and was very professional. He had the fans installed in about two hours. Their price quote was a little more than another estimate I got through Angies list, but they agreed to match their price so I had them do the work since they were there. I would use them again but get another quote to be sure of their pricing.
Description of Work: They installed two ceiling fans and connected an actic fan. The ceiling fans were in areas with vaulted ceilings (around fourteen feet).

After being contacted, Randy came out next day to both give an estimate and perform all necessary work. He was prompt and professional. He stayed until the job was completed. I would highly recommend him for any electrical work.
Description of Work: Replaced outlets in three rooms, removed and rehung fixture after installing box, ran wire mold in room.

Brian , with Randy May electric did most of the work in our home and he was great. Took his time, very few things missed and no mistakes that we found. very happy with all the work he and his apprentice completed. Brian and his apprentice were polite, answered and asked questions to get just what we wanted and were able to meet and exceed our expectations. My only complaint is they failed to replace one dimmer plate, and clean-up was less than great, but it was good, and the guys were so good to us and made sure it was wired correctly as they knew I had a fear of fire. ( this home had a few things added on that were overloading fuses and may electric fixed it all so we are comfortable and feel safe in our home.)
Description of Work: not sure how much as it was an all inclusive bid on a huge remodel. ceiling fans, almost total rewire pot lights, pendants, and dimmers, new lights in 3 bathrooms. re- labeled entire board and checked all outlets and switches and raised the building to current code.

When it comes to messing with someone’s electricity, he is the one you want. They are never late and he is a very nice person. He is probably the only electrician in this area that I would let do any electrical work.
Description of Work: Randy May is the only electrical is capable of doing anything. He does all of my business electrical work. I started with him when I was having problems with another electrician. He doesn’t discount his work because he doesn’t cut any corners and does everything by the books. He only hires certified electricians that are very well trained.

The big surprise came with a bill for $700 that was not itemized, which considering the work that was provided appeared to be excessive. When I complained about the lack of detail on the bill, they sent another with some parts listed as well as charging for plantation gate fees for both days. I could not believe that a contractor that continually works in the island, charges gate fees or at least itemizes them. I looked up the pricing for the listed parts on the internet and was able to formulate a bill that included their charge for labor that was $500. My e-mail response was ignored by the office help and I refused payment until I personally spoke with the owner. The owner apologized and indicated that he would split the difference. I paid the bill promptly according to our phone conversation.Today we again called the office for pricing on installing a ceiling fan, and were told that they would call back with a date and time for installation. Hours passed and with no return call, we called again and were told that the individual had gone home for the day. Minutes later we received a call from another employee who indicated that due to the dispute, we should look for a different electrician. I would suggest that everyone else do the same.
Description of Work: We called Randy May electric to repair outdoor lighting that needed attention. The response was on the same day and the work was completed to satisfaction.

We provide Estimates upon request. This customer did not request an Estimate. The member simply requested the work be completed. We completed the work, and the customer was satasfied with the quality of our work. When the customer requested a breakdown of our invoice, we provided that within 24 hours. We also reduced the invoice by $117.07 to please the member. The member was treated with extreme kindness and professionalism, as well as in a prompt manner. To say otherwise, is a false statement. tBrian and Jeremy arrived 45 minutes late. They had the surge protection units installed in about 90 minutes, which I feel is exceptionally quick. They then installed a 100+ pound chandelier in a 20' high foyer. I had to help them, because they were working from an A-frame ladder and the fixture was too heavy for one man to hoist while the other man completed the wiring. They were done in about 3.5 hours, so they were nothing if not efficient, because they also solved minor problems with two other recessed ceiling fixtures. The only gripe I have is that when I originally discussed the price of the surge protection units with Randy, he assured me that they would be about the same price as he Leviton units available on ebay. When I got the bill their equipment was hundreds of dollars higher for the same quality. For what it's worth, both Randy and Brenda May couldn't have been nicer to deal with.
